    My Prescription

Womack returned to American in 1969 to cut My Prescription, also produced by Moman, at a time that the venue was becoming exceptionally hot with visits from the likes of Elvis, Dusty Springfield, Neil Diamond and others. Womack's sophomore album may however well be one of the most demonstrative showcases of studio and session crew, incandescent on a finely-honed program of classy and soulful performances, with the singer in full control. Tracks like 'How I Miss You Baby,' 'Arkansas State Prison' and 'I Can't Take It Like A Man' stand as some of Womack's greatest moments, and taken as a whole, My Prescription stands not only the man's first truly great solo album, but also a timeless slice of sophisticated southern soul-making.

    Good Times!

Who's ready to have some fun with The Monkees as they celebrate their 50th anniversary? With a tour kicking off in May and the group's first new album in 20 years, GOOD TIMES!, releasing, Monkee-mania will be taking 2016 by storm!

GOOD TIMES! features all three surviving band members - Micky Dolenz, Michael Nesmith, and Peter Tork. The unmistakable voice of the late Davy Jones is also included with a vintage vocal featured on one song. To produce the new album, the band found the perfect musical co-conspirator in Grammy® and Emmy®-winning songwriter Adam Schlesinger (Fountains Of Wayne, Ivy).

Much like The Monkees' early albums, GOOD TIMES! features tracks written specifically for the band by some of the music world's most gifted songwriters, including Rivers Cuomo (Weezer), Ben Gibbard (Death Cab For Cutie), Andy Partridge (XTC), and Zach Rogue (Rogue Wave) as well as a song co-written by Noel Gallagher and Paul Weller. The album also includes songwriting contributions by Nesmith ("I Know What I Know") and Tork as well as producer Schlesinger.

To help bring the anniversary full circle, The Monkees completed songs for GOOD TIMES! that were originally recorded and written for the group during the 60s, including "Love To Love" by Neil Diamond, which features a vintage vocal by Jones. Harry Nilsson wrote the title track "Good Times," which he recorded at a session with Nesmith in January 1968. The production was never completed, so the band returned to the original session tape (featuring Nilsson's guide vocal) and have created a duet with his close friend Dolenz. "Good Times" will mark the first time Dolenz and Nilsson have sung together since Dolenz' May 1973 single "Daybreak." Other vintage 1960's tracks included on GOOD TIMES! feature L.A.'s famed "Wrecking Crew" of session musicians.

"This is one of the most exciting Monkee projects I've been involved in for decades!" says Dolenz. "Working with Adam Schlesinger has been a pure delight and the opportunity to sing a duet with my old buddy, Harry Nilsson, is just beyond cool!"

They quickly signed the legend to a long-term deal, forever etching "The King Of Rock And Roll" trademark to his name. He would eventually become the most successful solo artist of all time!

Throughout the late 60's into the early 70's, Elvis returned triumphantly to the stage and would go on to perform his hits in front of tens of thousands of Elvis fans every year until his untimely passing in 1977. It's no secret that his shows in Las Vegas were second to none. The whole world wanted to get a glimpse of the genius superstar powerhouse performances and RCA was lucky to be rolling tape in and recorded his On Stage-February 1970 Lp during appearances at the International Hotel.

Ever proving that he was always on top of his game, the amazing album featured his number one hit single The Wonder Of You as well as a treasure trove of his most important live renditions of Neil Diamond's Sweet Caroline, CCR's Proud Mary and the funk soul vibe of Tony Joe White's classic Polk Salad Annie.

The blockbuster 1970 release soon went on to achieve gold and platinum status and become one of his most memorable live albums in his huge arsenal of masterful albums. Thanks to more great hits like his Release Me, his vocal prowess on the rocker See See Rider and of course the soul drenched Beatles classic Yesterday, these live performances of Elvis Presley were just what the fans were screaming for, and the entire album was built around the framework of hit singles at the time and album tracks that spanned his later career.

    Recording Legend

In 1942, Capitol Records was founded as the first West Coast-based record label in the United States. Over the years, Capitol has released some of the most influential and iconic singers and songwriters ever. Artists currently signed to Capitol Records include the Beatles, Paul McCartney, Mary J. Blige, the Beach Boys, Beastie Boys, Neil Diamond, Eagles, Katy Perry and many more.

    Special Edition Finishes

This Heresy III special edition model is being offered in either an ebony finish with salt & pepper grille cloth or a blonde cherry finish with tan grille cloth. A co-branded Klipsch and Capitol Records logo is featured on each grille, and the back of each speaker will include a special edition plaque hand-signed by the craftsmen.

Designed And Made In The USA Using Domestic And Imported Components

The Klipsch Capitol Heresy III speaker is a prime example of the quality that Klipsch demands from all of its audio products. Remember great sound? We do, too. The Klipsch Capitol Heresy III enclosure is still made in the USA, by proud craftsmen in Hope, Arkansas. Just like Paul W. Klipsch (PWK) intended.

    Compact, Three-Way Loudspeaker

The Heresy was introduced back in 1957 as a compact three-way design combining a 12" woofer and horn-loaded midrange and tweeter. In 2006, the Heresy III was upgraded with a stronger woofer, bi-wire network, as well as midrange and tweeter compression drivers, featuring a titanium diaphragm for smooth and accurate definition.

    Book-Matched Wood Veneer

Klipsch only uses book-matched wood veneers for the Heritage series. The veneer leaves are kept in order as they are delicately sliced from the timber and carefully arranged to provide a mirror image at the splice joint - like turning the pages of a book. This gives each speaker an aesthetically pleasing and consistent appearance that is cherished more than any other cut of wood veneer.

    Matched Pairs

Each pair of Heritage Series loudspeakers is grain-matched using wood veneer panels that come from the same timber. Each cabinet is precisely matched so that each speaker in the pair is indistinguishable from the other. The speakers move easily together through the factory. Each finished product is inspected and labeled with sequential serial numbers, ensuring that the Heritage series speakers leave the factory as a meticulously crafted set.

    American III: Solitary Man

For younger generations of musicians, having their song cut by Johnny Cash must be a little like scaling the Washington Monument. On his third album
for producer Rick Rubin's American label, Cash makes Tom Petty's I Won't Back Down sound like a companion classic to I Walk the Line. He
transforms U2's One into a sturdy testament of plainspoken faith, while he plumbs the netherworld of Nick Cave's The Mercy Seat and Will Oldham's I
See a Darkness. Amid more familiar fare (including Neil Diamond's title track), the album's sing-along standout is the deadpan, down-and-out, talking
blues of Nobody. Cash's recent originals have the age-old purity of Appalachian music, while the traditional closing of Wayfaring Stranger offers
bittersweet benediction. Merle Haggard, Sheryl Crow, and June Carter Cash provide vocal cameos. -Don McLeese

Recorded at The Cash Cabin Studio, Hendersonville, Tennessee and The Akademie Mathematique Of Philosophical Sound Research, Los Angeles,
California.Includes liner notes by Johnny Cash.Solitary Man won the 2001 Grammy Award for Best Male Country Vocal Performance. AMERICAN III

    The Last Waltz

Mastered By Chris Bellman At Bernie Grundman Studios From The Original Analog Tapes And Pressed At RTI

On Thanksgiving Day 1976, The Band took the stage for the very last time at the Winterland Theatre in San Francisco for THE LAST WALTZ, which has gone on to become one of the most heralded performances of all time. Joining The Band on stage throughout the evening was an unprecedented group of pioneers in music including Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Muddy Waters, and Neil Young, among others.

The Band, more than any other group, put rock and roll back in touch with its roots. With their ageless songs and solid grasp of musical idioms, the Band reached across the decades, making connections for a generation that was, as an era of violent cultural schisms wound down, in desperate search of them. They projected a sense of community in the turbulent late Sixties and early Seventies - a time when the fabric of community in the United States was fraying.

Guitarist Robbie Robertson drew from history in his evocative, cinematic story-songs, and the vocal triumvirate of bassist Rick Danko, drummer Levon Helm and keyboardist Richard Manuel joined in rustic harmony and traded lines in rich, conversational exchanges. Multi-instrumentalist Garth Hudson provided musical coloration in period styles that evoked everything from rural carnivals of the early 20th century to rock and roll revues of the Fifties. The Ortofon 2M Black is quite possibly the best moving magnet cartridge on the planet. With a nude Shibata diamond, it retrieves information from the groove effortlessly and flawlessly. The 2M Black is easy to recommend for music lovers of all types.

    - Neil Gader, The Absolute Sound

2M are designed for precise and accurate retrieval of the information in the record groove. Our philosophy is to play the record sound as accurate as possible, without coloring the sound. We have optimized the design for ease of mounting the cartridge, weight and size to fit the most common turntables at the market today.

The name 2M was selected among several ideas. We wanted a modern name that would be easy to pronounce and to remember, and therefore an alpha numerical name was chosen. 2M means MM, which is the abbreviation for moving magnet.

The 2M Black is the new moving magnet flagship from Ortofon. The 2M black is graced with a Shibata diamond stylus - the same diamond as on the acclaimed MC Jubilee. Its slim, highly polished profile allows an exceedingly wide contact area to the groove walls and ensures notably detailed reproduction throughout the spectrum, including even the most high frequency groove information. Users of the 2M Black will enjoy the benefit of impeccable sound quality, along with reduced record & stylus wear and reduced distortion and phase error as a result of the diamond's improved tracking geometry.

The cartridge body used for the 2M Black is manufactured from a newly-developed Lexan DMX Piano Black, a revolutionary material which ensures high rigidity while eliminating unwanted resonances. The 2M Black uses a special upgraded engine, featuring split pole pins with a silver plated copper wire.

    Changes

As their ninth and last album from their hit making 1966-1970 era, The Monkees Changes is one of their most collectable efforts fetching over $300 for a mint copy of the album. This highly regarded fan favorite was a treasure trove of songs providing the soundtrack to the final year of their Saturday afternoon television show, as it featured the double-sided hit single Oh My My and I Love You Better.

Micky Dolenz and Davy Jones first class musicianship excel throughout this 1970 session. They revisit the great Boyce and Hart with I Never Thought It Peculiar as well as Davy Jones rockin' delivery on 99 Pounds and the underrated Micky Dolenz performance Ticket On Ferry Ride.

Produced by the much acclaimed sixties producer/writer Jeff Barry (The Monkees, Neil Diamond, The Archies), Changes was the first full-fledged production by this Monkees collaborator as it showed the true pop genius of both the band and producer in the studio. Augmented with some very cool seventies writers Andy Kim (Rock Me Gently) and the late Bobby Bloom (Montego Bay), this later Monkees album truly was a grand farewell from this band until their unbelievable history making 1986 return.

Unavailable for many years on compact disc, The Monkees Changes is available once again from the original Colgems Records recordings and features three huge bonus tracks not on the original album, including the very rare and hard to find Bell Records 45 Do It In The Name Of Love , plus new liners from Monkees historian Joe Reagoso, as well as original artwork elements and rare picture sleeves and other memorbilla. Back In Memphis

    180 Gram Translucent Gold Vinyl

Elvis Aaron Presley was born during the Great Depression into a poor family in Mississippi. They moved to Memphis during the early fifties, and as a struggling young truck driver, Elvis cut some demos as a gift for his beloved mother Gladys. The folks at RCA Victor knew that this young fellow named Elvis was destined for superstardom. They quickly signed the legend to a long-term deal, and his first RCA single Heartbreak Hotel forever etched "The King Of Rock And Roll" trademark to his name. He would eventually become the most successful solo artist of all time!

As 1970 began, Elvis returned to the studios of Memphis and would go on to record his smash album Back In Memphis. Ever proving that he was indeed on top of his game, the amazing album featured a treasure trove of his most soulful works like Inherit The Wind and Stranger In My Own Town. Back In Memphis soon went on to achieve gold and platinum status and become one of his most memorable titles in his huge arsenal of masterful albums.

Thanks to his great interpretation of Neil Diamond's And The Grass Won't Pay No Mind, his vocal prowess on the country groover From A Jack To A King and of course the soul drenched Without Love (There Is Nothing), this collection of Elvis Presley's hits were just what the fans were screaming for, and the entire album was built around the framework of his Back In Memphis trademark sound.

Is That All There Is? (Pure Pleasure)

When Peggy Lee became well-known in the 1940s, swing and jazz-influenced pop dominated the musical landscape. In the 1960s, however, it was a whole new world in popular music. The British Invasion and Motown - not big bands - were mainstream, and to the Baby Boomer youths of the 1960s, Lee was part of 'our parents' music'. But the singer had a major hit with 1969's Is That All There Is?, one of the best-selling albums of her career. While this isn't a rock album per se - Lee's foundation was still jazz-influenced pop - it acknowledges pop-rock tastes of the 1960s without being unfaithful to her history. Everything on this LP is a gem, and that includes a moody remake of Lee's 1940s hit Don't Smoke in Bed as well as classic arrangements of George Harrison's Something, Neil Diamond's Brother Love's Traveling Salvation Show, Leiber & Stoller's I'm a Woman, and Randy Newman's Love Story. The LP's centerpiece, however, is Newman's hit arrangement of Leiber & Stoller's title song, which was covered by P.J. Harvey in the 1990s. Influenced by German cabaret, this half-spoken, half-sung treasure is as hauntingly soulful as it is maudlin. The song's outlook is far from optimistic; essentially, it's saying that we might as well grab our moments of pleasure and enjoyment where we can find them because ultimately, life is nothing more than a meaningless series of disappointments. But there's nothing disappointing about Is That All There Is?, an LP that is most certainly among Lee's finest accomplishments.

    Musicians:

    • Peggy Lee (vocal), and orchestra

Recording: November 1962, January / February / April / October 1969 at Capitol Tower, Hollywood, CA

Production: Lieber & Stoller / Phil Wright / David Cavanaugh

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Shangri La

Barely a year after his debut, in November 2013 Jake Bugg returns with its bar-raising follow-up, Shangri La. The album shares a title with the Malibu studio where it was made, once the 70s haven of Bob Dylan and The Band, now the creative hib of legendary producer Rick Rubin, the recording Titan whose jawdropping c.v. spans from Def Jam and Johnny Cash to Adele and Kanye West.

Rubin's assembled wrecking crew of Shangri La session regulars includes guitarist Matt Sweeney (Bonnie `Prince' Billy, Neil Diamond, Endless Boogie), bassist Jason Lader (The Mars Volta), and drummers Chad Smith (Red Hot Chili Peppers) and Pete Thomas (Elvis Costello). Yet for all its stellar cast and production kudos, the real star of Shangri La is, unquestionably, Bugg himself.

Asked to compare Shangri La with its predecessor, Bugg concludes: 'My first album felt like a list of songs, whereas this one feels like a whole entity with something to say. Or if my first album was the colour of grey reality, this one's the colour of the sun'. The colour of our planet's nearest star. Or maybe the sound of a new star intensifying their musical colours. Listening to his second album, you dare to wonder where a talent like Jake Bugg could find themselves in ten years' time. His prediction: 'Up front for England'.

    Gilbert O'Sullivan (Pre-Order)

Gilbert O'Sullivan's unique blend of melodic craftsmanship, witty wordplay, topical acuity and surrealist humor has given him an enduring and endearing career.

Now recognized as one of our great singer-songwriters, he's been championed in recent years by everyone from Morrissey to Paul Weller, from Difford & Tilbrook to Neil Diamond. There's a case for him being our own Randy Newman or Harry Nilsson. Certainly, Ethan Johns (Kings Of Leon, Paolo Nutini, Laura Marling, Tom Jones, Paul McCartney) who produces his new album "Gilbert O'Sullivan", is a clued-up enthusiast. "I've been a fan of Gilbert's for years," he says. "He's a true original."

Gilbert's 19th studio album since his 1971 debut "Himself" feels in some ways a kindred spirit to that record, which yielded his first hit "Nothing Rhymed". It's organic, almost live feel is encouraged by Johns and the songs sail on the perennial O'Sullivan strengths of evocative tunes and wry insight. Yet while there are nods to nostalgia, as in the centerpiece "Dansette Dreams And 45s", the deft, droll observations on today's world remain eagle-eyed.

As Gilbert says, "The reason I've never lost the joy of song-writing is because you never know where something will lead," he says. "Once you get into writing a song, you can't resist taking it that little bit further "

In the zone again, naturally. Will Gilbert O'Sullivan surprise and intrigue you on this new album? He will.

    Black Bubblegum

Black Bubblegum is the newest LP from Eric Copeland,
and we are not kidding when we emphasize it sounds like
nothing he has done in the past. The title of the record
says it all: chewy, sticky pop that doesn't taste quite like
any chewy, sticky pop you've had before.

Recorded at Copeland's old practice space in South
Williamsburg, Black Bubblegum contains songs with
more conventional sounds and songwriting than any of
his previous releases. While there are similarities with
Copeland's earlier work in the drum patterns, major
scales and vocals, Black Bubblegum moves away from
his trademark psychedelic dub towards strange and
fantastical pop; imagine Arthur Russell going into the
studio with the Ramones. Wanting to take a more "handson"
approach to these recordings, Copeland exchanged
sample-driven tech and hardware for keyboards, guitars
and effect pedals, creating a new sound that is oddly
easy to digest despite its rejection of melody in favour of
    discord and dissonance.

For a long time, Copeland considered this collection of
songs to be recordings which would never be heard. This
invariably influenced certain decisions made during the
creation of Black Bubblegum, blessing Copeland with
the unique freedom that comes from making music never
intended to be heard, let alone released.

When asked to please jot down what influenced this new
album and sound, Eric replied "glam holes, glitter dreams,
money troubles, apocalypse paranoia, one hit wonders,
manifest destiny, my family's westward migration, body
troubles (was passing kidney stones almost the entire
time), LGBT disco parties, Jonathan Richman, Missing
Foundation, Neil Diamond, New Orleans, poverty, getting
pushed out of another Brooklyn neighbourhood... No
Beach Boys, no Beatles, no Buddha... More Bad News
    Bears."

Eric Copeland has been sound clashing at full volume for
over twenty years, first carving out a named for himself as
one third of the legendary NY-via-Providence band Black
Dice. A wildly prolific solo artist, Copeland has played
shit houses, party palaces and seemingly everything in
    between all over the world.

A long time Brooklyn, resident, Eric recently relocated
to where the L Train does not run - Palma de Mallorca,
Spain. While maintaining a relatively humble and low key
presence in a highly competitive musical world, he has
releases a prolific amount of music every year through
indie labels such as L.I.E.S., Escho (Iceage), PPM (No Age), Paw Tracks (Animal Collective) and DFA.

    Is That All There Is?

Peggy Lee was 49 years old when Capitol Records released Is That All There Is? in 1969. It was her 42nd album, and it had been over 10 years since the singer born Norma Deloris Egstrom, in 1920, had last graced the US Top 40 with her presence; her sultry take on Little Willie John's 'Fever' scaled the upper echelons of the American hit parade in 1958.

But Lee, a country girl with Scandinavian ancestry who hailed from the plains of North Dakota, had more in the tank. The haunting and idiosyncratic 'Is That All There Is?' (inspired by a short story called Disillusionment from German writer Thomas Mann) captured the public imagination when it was released as a single in the States and started climbing the pop charts, where it peaked at No.11. Such was the song's impact that it won Lee a Grammy Award in the category of Best Contemporary Female Vocal Performance in 1970. Its success was a surprise to Capitol, who thought the song was too odd and esoteric to be a hit.

The song opens Lee's album of the same name and, even today, remains a profoundly potent piece of music. It has the ability to simultaneously provoke conflicting emotions, eliciting both laughter and pathos. Combining a spoken narrative with a plaintive refrain sung over a jaunty rhythm, it evokes the Berlin cabaret scene of the 1920s and the spirit of German composer Kurt Weill. The song was penned and produced by noted hitmakers Jerry Leiber and Mike Stoller, and it's unlike anything else they wrote: a philosophical rumination that questions the meaning of things.

Arranged and conducted by a young Randy Newman, 'Is That All There Is?' is beautifully delivered by Lee in plangent tones, mixing a droll, ironic humour with a poignant reflection on the absurdity and, indeed, disappointments of life. Despite the song's somber mood and theme of disillusionment, the chorus is gloriously carefree: "Let's keep dancing/Let's break out the booze and have a ball," Lee sings, and she sounds like she means it. (Understandably, the song - which was originally written for, and turned down by, Marlene Dietrich - has inspired many covers over the years, including notable versions by Tony Bennett and PJ Harvey with John Parish.)

Though it was the undoubted cornerstone of Lee's 1969 album, there was much more to enjoy besides the title song. Another Leiber and Stoller composition, 'Whistle For Happiness', is stylistically similar to 'Is That All There Is?' while their 'I'm A Woman' is a swaggering, sassy blues that was first cut by Lee on her 1963 album of the same name and was a minor US chart hit at the time.

Peggy Lee Is Love Story Single Label - 300Elsewhere, Lee deconstructs the Al Jolson-associated 'Me And My Shadow' and imbues it with a languorous sensuality, while the Nancy and Frank Sinatra duet 'Something Stupid' is reconfigured into a breezy bossa nova. Another highlight is her take on Randy Newman's 'Love Story (You And Me)', the opening cut on the singer-songwriter's 1968 debut album for Reprise, which is arranged and conducted by the composer himself. Newman's 'Johnny (Linda)' is also included and has an arrangement that recalls the vaudevillian quirkiness of the album's title track.

Lee also embraced the rock music zeitgeist by tackling The Beatles' George Harrison-penned 'Something' and Neil Diamond's gospel-flavoured 'Brother Love's Travelling Salvation Show', though she does them in her own inimitable way.

Is That All There Is? dared to be different and showed that, though Peggy Lee was often typecast as a stereotypical jazz chanteuse, she was a much more versatile performer than had hitherto been revealed. Though its title song is an ode to coping with disappointment, that particular emotion is the last thing that you feel when listening to this classic album, which is a life-affirming delight from beginning to end.
