Sublime 1970 Album Among Loosest, Jovial of Dylan's Career

Includes Hit Single If Not for You and The Man In Me, Featured in the Film The Big Lebowski

Dylan's Phrasing and Piano Playing Parallel Efforts of His Crack Backing Band

Stunning Reissue Boasts Phenomenally Open Sound: New Morning Has Never Enjoyed Better Fidelity

The album might have saved Bob Dylan's career. At the least, it proved the icon still relevant, and his wits still in tact. And it immediately followed what remains the artist's biggest disaster, the yet-unexplained and forever puzzling Self Portrait, a nearly unlistenable attempt that caused many to wonder whether Dylan had lost his mind. If intended as a joke, it bombed, making the sublime New Morning all the more important to restore faith in the singer's creativity and songwriting prowess. It did all this and more, and stands as his finest studio effort during a five-year span.

Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's world-renowned mastering system and pressed at RTI, this restored analog version spotlights the open, woozy sound that welcomes wholeheartedly Dylan's piano, several eager guitars, female background singers, Al Kooper's organ, and snappy drumming into a world of their own. New Morning remains one of Dylan's loosest and jovial affairs, the instruments retaining an off-the-cuff sensibility relating to a nightclub atmosphere or live stage feel. On this reissue, notes naturally dangle and fade, allowing the playful vibes and humor to come through like never before. Consequently, the album can be experienced with a new perspective. Wider grooves mean more information reaches your ears.

"Many of the songs seem to have been made up on the spot, with confidence in the ability of first-rate musicians to move in any direction at any time," wrote Dylan expert and cultural critic Greil Marcus in his original review for the New York Times. "The riffs, inventions, and studio jams of New Morning have their own personality the full joy of anticipating the right move and the exhilaration of hitting it square and bouncing off a chord into a new lyric."

These observations hold true today, for the 1970 effort claims a daring flair Dylan rarely exhibited on albums before or since. Enthusiasm and excitement surround his singing, and his work on the 88s underlines the liberating arrangements. Offbeat and eclectic, the record frolics and swings, with the Bard and his crack band pursuing jazzy steps ("Sign on the Window"), shuffling spoken-word experiments ("If Dogs Run Free"), and soulful rock ("The Man In Me," used to wonderful and prominent effect in the Coen Brothers film The Big Lebowski).

Throughout, Dylan's phrasing communicates joyousness and simplicity seemingly carried over from the stripped-down John Wesley Harding and Nashville Skyline. The record's dominant sentiments trace to the lead track, "If Not For You," one of the singer's all-time greatest singles, stitched with country threads and warmth that pervades everything that follows. Yes, New Morning may lack the iconic status of some of Dylan's better-known records. Yet the underdog stature makes repeat listens all the more rewarding.

    Love In The Morning

Angelo Spencer's third album is his most danceable work so far!
Written and recorded in ChambÉry, France, in the heart of the Alps
(where he grew up) over the course of a week in February 2014.

With the help of old friends and amazing musicians Luc Detraz
(Imperial Tiger Orchestra)and Karol Skonitcki (Super Fedor), Love In
The Morning is a short, precise, and undeniably groovy love
affair! With repurposed autotune and raw, uncompressed sound
recorded by Djan (the man behind the Larsen Records sound), the
album is minimal yet so full. These guys don't joke around. This shit was
    made for dancing!

The Congolese Soukous style of the title track "Love In the Morning"
and "Solid Home Life" will explode your heart with pure happiness.
The cover of OKVancouverOK's "Nature" is a wild ride showing you
that there is hope and yes! we can destroy capitalism! Feeling
hungry? "Tanger, Tanger" will feed you the most beautiful meal
you've ever had. Feeling tired? Relax as special guest Gilles Poizat
(Mazalda) plays trumpet on "Melatonin and Weed", the fresh new
waltz of 2015. Basically, we've got you covered.

    Mourning In The Morning

For Mourning In The Morning, his 1969 album debut on Atlantic Records, southpaw blues guitar legend Otis Rush journeyed from his Chicago home to Fame Recording Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabamaa burg best known for seminal soul platters. Backed by a horn-powered band that included a young Duane Allman on rhythm guitar, Otis slashing axe and anguished vocals glowed on the tortured Youre Killing My Love, remakes of his Cobra Records classics My Love Will Never Die and It Takes Time, and a stunning revival of B.B. Kings Gamblers Blues. Half the set consisted of new compositions from producers Mike Bloomfield and Nick Gravenites, and Rushs mile-wide string bending on a shimmering instrumental version of Aretha Franklins Baby I Love You is utterly breathtaking.

    The Cold Of The Morning

LP Available For The First Time Since 1976!

Sid Selvidge's The Cold Of The Morning is a mid-'70s Memphis classic. And, it almost never saw the light of day.

Recorded in 1975, Selvidge and producer Jim Dickinson (Big Star, Ry Cooder, The Replacements) created a 12-track song cycle, captured live in the
studio with Selvidge on vocals and guitar, plus Dickinson on piano with Memphis' iconic Mudboy and the Neutrons on two tracks. With a cover photo
taken by William Eggleston, it was destined for greatness, but when Peabody Records' benefactor decided not to put the record out at the last minute, he
gave the rights to the recently pressed LP to Selvidge, who drove down to the plant, loaded up his car and distributed them himself. The album eventually
found its way into regional stores and the national press, even reaching the Cashbox charts, and was enough to take Selvidge to New York, but life
intervened, and bigger record deals were not in the cards.

Omnivore Recordings is proud to issue this indelible piece of the Memphis music canon on LP for the first
    time since its initial release.
Consisting of originals, blues standards, and Broadway classics, The Cold Of The Morning, is not only a snapshot of a time and place, but of Selvidge
himself. The package includes rare photographs and an in-depth essay from Bob Mehr of The Commercial Appeal.

Selvidge would eventually turn Peabody into a boutique label, issuing records by Cybil Shepherd, and even Alex Chilton's solo debut, Like Files On
Sherbert. He continued to record, releasing a 1993 album on Elektra and a triumphant swansong, I Should Be Blue, in 2010. But, it all began on The Cold
Of The Morning. "He said, 'Look, I've made my classic record," recalls his son, Steve. "It was almost like he was apart from it. It really was the perfect
capturing of the perfect moment, and it made for his most perfect statement."

Breakfast On The Morning Tram (Pure Pleasure)

Stacey Kent is what men used to call a classy broad. Her elegant fashion sense and understated vocal style make her sound like a woman from another time, an unflappable sophisticate with a warm, slightly world-weary persona. She was born in the United Sates but after a trip to France, she decided to become a jazz singer. In the early '90s she landed in Oxford where she met her husband, musical director/sax player Jim Tomlinson. Tomlinson also produces Kent's albums, and this time out, he composed several charming tunes that sound like potential standards, plus collaborations with lyricist Kazuo Ishiguro, author of Remains Of The Day. Original tunes like The Ice Hotel and I Wish I Could Go Traveling Again are full of wry humor, and Kent delivers them with her usual effortless grace.

    Musicians:

    • Stacey Kent (vocal)

    • Jim Tomlinson (tenor saxophone, alto saxophone, soprano saxophone, flute)

    • John Parricelli (guitar)

    • Graham Harvey (piano, electric piano)

    • Dave Chamberlain (bass)

    • Matt Skelton (drums, percussion)

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    New Multitudes

New Multitudes is an intimate interpretation of American icon and musical legend Woody Guthries previously unrecorded lyrics from a dream team of Americana torchbearers: Jay Farrar (Son Volt), Will Johnson (Centro-matic), Anders Parker (Varnaline) and Jim James (My Morning Jacket). What makes this album such a rarity in todays music world is the allowance of the songs infectious simplicity to stand alone in all their glory. In doing so, Farrar, Johnson, Parker and James, pay the greatest compliment to Woody Guthrie and the collaborative spirit he so greatly embodied. This is an album which seamlessly converges the sepia-toned essence of the time honored past with the risks needed to forge the future.

Under the invitation of Nora Guthrie, Woody's daughter, to tour the Guthrie archives, each of the four songwriters were offered the chance to plumb and mine the plethora of notebooks, scratch pads, napkins, etc. for anything that might inspire them to lend their voices and give the words new life.

These guys worked on an amazing group of lyrics says Nora. Much of it was culled from Woody's times in L.A. Lyric wise, it's a part of the story that is still mostly unknown. From Woody's experiences on L.A.'s skid row to his later years in Topanga Canyon, they are uniquely intimate, and relate two distinctly emotional periods in his life.

Musically, it is the sense of collaboration that makes New Multitudes not just another trite and traditional acoustic regurgitation of back porch blues. From the ragged jangle of its opening track, Hoping Machine, the loping lilt of Fly High, the floorboard stomp of No Fear, to the lush warmth and sudden sonic gut punch of My Revolutionary Mind, the cohorts deliver a lesson in discovering a song's sweet spot time and time again. It's the function and preparedness of each artist's dogged work ethic gleaned the old-fashion way; veracious songs, road weary odometers and sweat stained live shows, all attributes of the man they are honoring.

    New Moon Daughter (Pure Pleasure)

This is no easy listen ... sparse, complex, often brooding arrangements coupled with Cassandra Wilson's deep, earthy voice and complicated phrasing demand your attention. Waver and you're lost. But ... give this album the listening time & space it deserves and reap the rewards. Unusual, highly atmospheric tracks that combine superb singing and marvellously 'distant' musical backings to weave real magic.

Cassandra Wilson's own excellent, jazz tinged compositions sit alongside a stunning set of ingenious covers from a highly diverse spectrum of composers. Last Train To Clarksville is transformed from a catchy pop song into a stripped-down and genuinely effective jazz vocal work-out. Harvest Moon slows down Neil Young's already wistful ballad to an almost painful level and, in so doing, takes it to an even higher level of gentle reflection. Hank Williams' I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry & U2's Love Is Blindness are transformed into three in the morning jazz club classics.
The vocals and backing to Robert Johnson's 32-20 are simplified to the point where only the essence of the blues is allowed to shine and, Lewis Allan's Strange Fruit becomes as desolate and challenging as it's horrific lyrics.

Clever, very effective and worth the required effort!

    The Big Lebowski Soundtrack

The Coen Brothers' 1998 film noir spoof, The Big Lebowski, with Jeff Bridges' shaggy title character, "The Dude," has gained a fervent following, complete with annual conventions, where phrases like "The Dude will abide" have entered the vernacular. With the Coens' typical care and love of music they demonstrated throughout their diverse career, The Big Lebowski soundtrack has become just as much of a cult classic as the film itself. Album highlights include songs accompanying a trio of bowling scenes: Bob Dylan's New Morning track, "The Man In Me" over the title credits, the Busby Berkeleyinfluenced psychedelia of Kenny Rogers and the First Edition's "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition is In") and the Gypsy Kings' redefining take on the Eagles' "Hotel California," as John Turturro licks his bowling ball. The classic album will now be made available for the first time on vinyl through Universal Music Enterprises.

    War Psalms

Morning Glory have completed work on their new album War Psalms, packed with 13 memorable songs. Read what Ezra Kire, singer of Morning Glory, had to say:

We took the summer off to record this record. We were driving Jesse (Cannon) nuts by camping out in his studio. I was up to writing at all hours of the night, taking brief naps under the piano. In the end we had 27 tracks from which to assemble this album. People who like earlier M-glory are definitely gonna like it. It's faster, heavier, & more raw & stripped down than Poets, but retains that anthemic morning glory message. Brian Viglione (dresden dolls, and now violent femmes) added massive strength to the entire record with his powerhouse drumming style. Music is a forward moving journey & I can't wait for it to be released. Everyone who's heard it agrees that this record rocks.

    Poets Were My Heroes

Morning Glory is made up of the stuff that the gritty, punk-crust motherland of New York's infamous Lower East Side has been known to spawn. This group of punkers and squatters had very humble beginnings indeed. Already in various other New York punk bands, Morning Glory first became the spark of an idea when Ezra Kire (Leftöver Crack, Choking Victim, INDK) took time off from touring and started to write some tunes in his NYC apartment.

In 2001, with nothing but a drum machine and an 8-track reel-to-reel, Ezra wrote and recorded the songs that would become Morning Glory's first LP, This Is No Time ta Sleep. Though it was self-recorded, home-released and had no touring support, it still managed to create a small but ubiquitous underground buzz. With a virtuosic range of musical elements such as ska, punk, metal, and even some rhyming, its catchy, anthemic sing-alongs showcased Ezra's flourishing writing talents. And while his lyrics stayed true to the caustic political edge of his other bands, the overall message remained more optimistic and leaned towards the humanistic, personal side of life.

In 2002, Ezra finally assembled a live band, handpicking musicians from the local NYC punk scene, including members of Nausea, World/Inferno Friendship Society and Stockyard Stoics. This lineup recorded the EP, The Whole World is Watching, released on Blacknoise Records in 2003. While the years that followed were spent recording and touring with Leftöver Crack, Morning Glory took a back seat.

But after these long years of touring, Ezra finally decided to give Morning Glory the attention it deserved in 2010 and began writing songs for what was to become the epic new album, Poets Were My Heroes. In the summer of 2011, Ezra and the band (with longtime members Early Gates, "Metal" Chris and Lucky Strano alongside new guitarist Adam Schrager) hit the studio with a barrage of new material. Picture the sonic kaleidoscope of punk noise meeting strings, horns, choirs, pianos and organs over a web of distorted guitars and marching, single kick pedal drums.

These are the sounds that make up Poets Were My Heroes, Morning Glory's Fat Wreck Chords debut and first full-length album recorded with a live band. Re-enlisting producer Jesse Cannon (The Menzingers, Saves the Day), a wealth of material was recorded, with only the very strongest songs being chosen to make up the album. It is both grand and elaborate, with each song evoking a different mood and style, challenging the musicianship of even the most dexterous players, while still maintaining its punk-inspired simplicity.

While the band itself has described themselves as "somewhere between Oasis and The Clash," they continue to break rules and write music that is true only to themselves, adhering to no genres, creeds or political factions. The sing-along choruses give the band a broader appeal than the standard politi-kill punk acts, but the key message is more subversive: "Think for yourself, decide for yourself, make up your own mind and love your friends. Only you know what is right for you. Together we are what we can't be alone." It's this unity in diversity that makes the band special and not just another punk outfit. Double vinyl includes digital download of full album.

    Evil Urges

One of the Most Highly Anticipated Albums of 2008!

My Morning Jacket expands their stylistic boundaries with each newly successive release and true to form Evil Urges, their fifth studio album, may be their most diverse effort yet. Jim James, the bold and fearless frontman for the group, even flaunts his falsetto on a handful of tracks. My Morning Jacket had little reason to try anything new at all considering their previous album, Z, was one of the most critically acclaimed albums of 2005 and was prematurely being described by many as the group at their creative peak. I feel like Z is the perfect bridge from what we were gradually doing before and Z to Evil Urges is the perfect bridge between everything. On the first listen, there's a lot of variety in a lot of different places, but I think after repeated listens, hopefully the listener would understand the similarities more than the differences, explains James. In a matter of 6 years, My Morning Jacket has evolved from just another alt-country band into something of bigger, more epic proportions. There are parts of our band that are tied to roots, James says, and there are also parts where we want to experiment.

The past several My Morning Jacket albums have each reflected the passion that the band shares for music of all categories while continuing to nurture their signature aesthetic. Stylistically, Evil Urges is the album that My Morning Jacket has been making for almost ten years. Their previous work has emboldened them with the confidence to continue to grow in ways few artists would be capable of achieving. Admirably, Jim James' songwriting manages to remain as organic and cohesive as ever, making their musical leaps forward fluid, logical, entertaining and inspiring.

More than ever before, the band treated the studio itself as a musical instrument for the recording of Evil Urges. Thus co-producers Jim James and Joe Chiccarelli (The Shins, White Stripes) truly collaborated on the band's most ambitious and convincingly executed album to date.

Off The Grid - Doin' It Dylan

Back when Charlie Daniels was a working musician and not a star, he played on three albums by Bob Dylan -- he played guitar and bass on the sessions that became Nashville Skyline, Self Portrait, and New Morning (which means he also shows up on the acclaimed 2013 archival release, Another Self Portrait (1969-1971)) -- so his decision to cut an album devoted to Dylan is not out of the blue. What is surprising is that Off the Grid: Doin' It Dylan isn't one of Daniels' tossed-off latter-day albums, but rather a record where Charlie really digs in, savoring the interplay of his band as well as how the words feel in his mouth. Daniels does indeed choose a few of Bob's densely written songs -- Mr. Tambourine Man, A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall, and Just Like a Woman are here, none of them seeming like easy fits on paper, but each carried with conviction by Charlie -- along with country-rockers that are sure bets: the rollicking ditty Country Pie, I'll Be Your Baby Tonight, and Tangled Up in Blue, whose narrative gets trimmed down and sped up without losing its power. That impassioned reworking of Tangled Up in Blue -- which finds a counterpart in a nicely raucous back porch rendition of Quinn the Eskimo -- goes a long way toward explaining what's so joyous about Off the Grid. Daniels enjoys not the words of Dylan so much as the melodies and music, using these songs not as ruminative reflection but full-bore celebration. Even the ballads -- and there are a few here -- are played for keeps and if that music-first emphasis is a relative rarity among Dylan tributes, it's also true that it's been a long time since Daniels has sounded as engaged on a record as he is here.

Acclaimed Band Goes Back to Kentucky Rock Roots on Scintillating 2011 Set

Adventurous, Organic, Focused, and Fun: Jim James and Co. Get Their Jam On

LPs Cut at 45PRM and Pressed on 180g Audiophile Vinyl: Excellent Sonics

My Morning Jacket's sixth studio album, the stunning Circuital, finds the band going back to its Kentucky rock roots while still mixing in tempered amounts of the experimentalist streaks on its two previous efforts. The album was recorded in Louisville, KY and Nashville, TN and co-produced by frontman Jim James and Tucker Martine (R.E.M., Sufjan Stevens, The Decemberists). The result is yet another reinvention of the group's sound that both forges new ground and maintains the distinct spirit of MMJ's previous genre bending work.

Critics were already praising the effort on the week before its release, and James has rarely expressed such open-minded admiration for his own work. Plus, the sound is riveting. And vinyl is the way to hear this excellent record, as the two 180g LPs are cut at 45rpm and housed in gatefold packaging. Includes poster insert with lyrics and inner sleeves with full color artwork.

Recorded in a Louisville church gymnasium, Circuital is just as adventurous, yet more organic and focused; when James sings, Play it smart, soul intact/How you react is what you'll get back, against lovely circular guitar shimmer on You Wanna Freak Out, he's like the beard-rock version of Coach Taylor from Friday Night Lights, showing the boys how to relax and channel their inner jam.

--Jon Dolan, Rolling Stone, May 26, 2011

The [title track] is the centerpiece of what in the vinyl era wouldve been Side 1 of the album, with the tracks sequenced to melt one into the next. The ascending, trance-like Victory Dance, the undulating finger-picked guitar and yearning vocal of Wonderful (The Way I Feel), the surreal combination of Beach Boys-like vocals and pedal-steel guitar on Outta My Systemit makes for a brilliant start and raises expectations that My Morning Jacket has finally made its classic.

    Z

While much of Z comes as a shock, even the surprises should seem perfectly natural in hindsight. The combination of the hushed, indie balladry of their early records with the spacious guitar rock of their last was to be expected, here they deliver newer, more exotic rhythms and textures, which makes it clear that this is a great band, doing great things, whove been playing it safe until now. The Next Day

David Bowie's First New Album in Ten Years and his 30th Studio Recording.

On 2 LP with CD and Bonus Tracks

The Next Day was produced by long-term collaborator Tony Visconti and was recorded in New York. In the early morning hours of Tuesday, January 8, David's birthday, Iso/Columbia Records released his new single titled 'Where Are We Now?' In recent years, radio silence has been broken only by endless speculation, rumor and wishful thinking. A new record-who would have ever thought it? Who'd have ever dreamed it? After all, David is the kind of artist who writes and performs what he wants when he wants when he has something to say as opposed to something to sell. Today, he definitely has something to say. Now we all know, David Bowie has been in the recording studio-just when we least expected it.

Throwing shadows and avoiding the industry treadmill is very David Bowie despite his extraordinary track record that includes album sales in excess of 130 million; not to mention his massive contributions in the area of art, fashion, style, sexual exploration, and social commentary. It goes without saying that he has sold out stadiums and broken ticket records throughout the world during this most influential of careers.

Young In All The Wrong Ways

Young in All the Wrong Ways is Sara Watkins'
most cohesive and fully realized solo album.
The new collection finds her embracing the role
of frontwoman following the collaborations of
Watkins Family Hour (featuring Sean Watkins,
Fiona Apple and Benmont Tench) and Nickel
Creek, the hugely successful group she first
formed with her brother Sean and Chris Thile.

The album is also her most powerful. Personal
and revealing, she wrote or co-wrote each of the
10 songs-a first for her. It was produced in Los
Angeles by Gabe Witcher who arranged a stellar
band including two of his fellow Punch Brothers,
guitarist Chris Eldridge and bass player Paul
Kowert, and additional musicians Jon Brion and
Jay Bellerose. Sarah Jarosz and Aoife O'Donovan,
Watkins' bandmates in I'm With Her, provide
harmonies on the title track while Jim James of
My Morning Jacket guests on "One Last Time."
Benmont Tench is again featured on keys.

Sara calls the record "a breakup album with
myself..." Writing and recording these ten
intensely soul-baring songs was a mechanism
to process and mark the last few transformative
years. The record is about Sara turning the
page and taking the reins of her own life, in
both a career and personal sense.

    "I looked
around and realized that in many ways I wasn't
who or where I wanted to be," Sara says. "It's
been a process of letting go and leaving behind
patterns and relationships and in some cases
how I've considered myself. What these songs
are documenting is the turmoil you feel when
you know something has to change and you're
grappling with what that means. It means you're
losing something and moving forward into
    the unknown."

The songs contain some of the
heaviest moments of her career, with eruptions
of thrumming B3 organ and jagged electric guitar.
But it's also quiet, vulnerable, tenderhearted.
Bold in all the right ways.

Young in All the Wrong Ways reveals an artist
who has managed to transform her own turmoil
into music that is beautiful and deeply moving:
"God bless the tenderhearted," she sings, "who let
    life overflow."
