Welcome Back To MilkIt's time for a revolution. Beth Jeans Houghton is dead. Du Blonde is born.
Welcome Back To Milk is the Newcastle-born singer-songwriter's second
album, but her debut as Du Blonde, and it's a complete reinvention: new name,
new look, new band, new attitude - and attitude is a key word.
Du Blonde is not a persona or a character, it's Beth Jeans Houghton ripping
it up and starting again. Gone is the baroque chamber pop of 2012's Yours
Truly, Cellophane Nose. Gone is the band she recorded that album with,
The Hooves Of Destiny. In place of all that are heavy riffs, loud drums, vocal
aggression and the sound of somebody finding their voice, whether screaming
the chorus of Chips To Go, singing soul-bearing ballad Four In The Morning
or cooing through wistful torch song After The Show.
Aside from a track made with Youth, Welcome Back To Milk is produced by
Jim Sclavunos, who knows plenty about capturing dark sounds as a member
of Nick Cave's Bad Seeds. An unmistakable presence on the album is that of
Future Islands frontman Samuel T Herring, whose soaring vocals appear on
Mind Is On My Mind.
Where Yours Truly, Cellophane Nose threw everything at a song, Du Blonde
strips everything down to the bare essentials. Black Flag, which opens the
album, is bass, guitar, drums and a dose of rage. "I got really into hard rock
and American hardcore while I was living in LA after we finished touring," she
says. "I couldn't work out why I was having such trouble expressing myself with
the music I was writing, but after a while I realised the instrumentation didn't
lend itself to the anger I was feeling. I needed to release all of this pent up
aggression and I was trying to do it over layers of vocal harmonies and nicely
played instruments. It was never going to work."
"I was hiding behind my guitar for so long, it was easy to feel safe there. I
wanted to put myself in a position I wasn't comfortable with in order to grow
as a performer. I want no choice but to look people dead in the eyes and give
them all I have."1. Black Flag

Joy Division: Box SetReleased in a Limited Edition of only 3,000 copies worldwide, this 180-Gram virgin vinyl, four-disc JOY DIVISION BOX SET contains new pressings of the band's two seminal studio albums - UNKNOWN PLEASURES ('79) and CLOSER ('80) - and the 1981 two-disc rarities compilation STILL.
JOY DIVISION: BOX SET allows you to experience these pioneering albums the way they were heard originally - on sonically rich vinyl LPs. The three titles - a total of four LPS - come housed in an elegant cloth-covered box designed by U.K. artist Peter Saville, who created the distinctive artwork and packaging on the original issues of these classic releases. Once the 3,000 copies sell out, the box will not be reproduced.
Joy Division's 1979 debut UNKNOWN PLEASURES is a landmark album that established the band as principal architects and ultimate icons of the post-punk movement and the U.K. Manchester scene of the late '70s. UNKNOWN PLEASURES' ten classic songs resonate with the atmospheric textures and deep sonic spaces of Martin Hannett's production. Highlights include Insight, Disorder, New Dawn Fades and She's Lost Control. The latter song is the inspiration for the title of the 2007 film Control, the acclaimed Anton Corbijn-directed feature chronicling the life and times of Joy Division's lead singer and principal songwriter, the late Ian Curtis.
Joy Division's 1980 follow-up CLOSER, another seminal post-punk masterpiece, ranks #157 on Rolling Stone's 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time. Musically and lyrically driven by the prevailing despair of Ian Curtis - who killed himself only months after the LP was released - CLOSER was also produced by Martin Hannett, who weaves sprawling emotional chaos and shifting atmospheres and textures together into an enormously powerful ten-song tour de force. Stand-outs include Heart And Soul, Isolation, Eternal, Decades and the wrenching Twenty Four Hours.
The compilation STILL came out in late 1981, over a year after Curtis' death. Comprised of twenty studio outtakes, b-sides, live cuts and other rarities, all the tracks were previously unissued at the time of STILL's original release except for Glass and Dead Souls, both compelling studio recordings from 1978 and 1979, respectively. STILL also presents material from Joy Division's last-ever concert, recorded at Birmingham University in May 1980 including the only time they performed Ceremony live (the song would later become a New Order single). Another track captured at Birmingham is Shadowplay, a selection covered in 2007 by The Killers for the soundtrack for the film Control. Other highlights include a live cover of The Velvet Underground's Sister Ray and a 1979 studio recording of Something Must Break.
Joy Division formed in Manchester, England in 1977, and had an immense and profound impact on contemporary music in a very brief time together. They recorded only two full-length studio albums, UNKNOWN PLEASURES and CLOSER, prior to lead singer Ian Curtis' 1980 suicide, just before the single Love Will Tear Us Apart became their breakthrough hit. The remaining members - guitarist Bernard Sumner, bassist Peter Hook and drummer Stephen Morris - disbanded Joy Division after Curtis' death, and re-formed as New Order.Unknown Pleasures Track Listing:

CloserRanked 157/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Formed in 1977, Joy Division (guitarist Bernard Albrecht, bassist Peter Hook, drummer Stephen Morris, and vocalist Ian Curtis) helped usher in the Post-Punk movement with their haunting melodies and melancholy lyrics. By incorporating synthesizers into their music, they paved the way for an entire generation of bands who would soon follow in their footsteps. The band released two classic albums, 1979s UNKNOWN PLEASURES and 1980s CLOSER as well as several singles, before Curtis suicide on the eve of their first American tour. Following Curtis death, Albrecht (now Sumner), Hook, and Morris formed the band New Order, and would continue to record over the next twenty-five years.
If Unknown Pleasures was Joy Division at their most obsessively, carefully focused, ten songs yet of a piece, Closer was the sprawl, the chaotic explosion that went every direction at once. Who knows what the next path would have been had Curtis not chosen his end? But steer away from the rereading of his every lyric after that date, treat Closer as what everyone else thought it was at first simply the next album and Joy Division's power just seems to have grown. Hannett was still producing, but seems to have taken as many chances as the band itself throughout differing mixes, differing atmospheres, new twists and turns define the entirety of Closer, songs suddenly returned in chopped-up, crumpled form, ending on hiss and random notes. Opener Atrocity Exhibition was arguably the most fractured thing the band had yet recorded, Sumner's teethgrinding guitar and Morris' Can-on-speed drumming making for one heck of a strange start. Keyboards also took the fore more so than ever the drowned pianos underpinning Curtis' shadowy moan on The Eternal, the squirrelly lead synth on the energetic but scared-out-of-its-wits Isolation, and above all else Decades, the album ender of album enders. A long, slow crawl down and out, Curtis' portrait of lost youth inevitably applied to himself soon after, its sepulchral string-synths are practically a requiem. Songs like Heart and Soul and especially the jaw-dropping, wrenching Twenty Four Hours, as perfect a demonstration of the tension/release or soft/loud approach as will ever be heard, simply intensify the experience. Joy Division was at the height of their powers on Closer, equaling and arguably bettering the astonishing Unknown Pleasures, that's how accomplished the four members were. Rock, however defined, rarely seems and sounds so important, so vital, and so impossible to resist or ignore as here.1. Atrocity Exhibition

New Skin For The Old CeremonyMeticulously Remastered
Sourced From The Original Columbia Records Stereo Masters In Order To Preserve The Sound Of The Original Albums
1974's New Skin for the Old Ceremony saw Leonard Cohen taking a turn away from the spare sound of his earlier releases, with such numbers as Chelsea Hotel #2, There Is a War and A Singer Must Die featuring expanded instrumental arrangements and some of the most expressive vocal performances of Cohen's career.
By the time Cohen began his recording career in 1967, the iconoclastic Canadian troubadour was already well established as a poet and author. He quickly emerged as one of the eras most original and influential singer-songwriters, building a large and legendary body of work that continues to inspire artists and listeners alike.
Much of Cohens reputation and mystique was established by his early work for Columbia Records, particularly the five albums he recorded between 1967 and 1974. Now, these five classic albums, unavailable on vinyl for two decades, have been lovingly restored to their original LP format.
For their new Sundazed editions, all five albums have been meticulously remastered and have been sourced from the original Columbia Records stereo masters in order to preserve the sound of the original albums. In keeping with the exacting standards for which Sundazed has become known, each album will be pressed on high-definition vinyl, with complete original cover art.1. Is This What You Wanted

Electric PeaceElectric is the pivotal third album by The Cult. Released in 1987, the album marked a deliberate stylistic change in the band from a Gothic rock to a hard rock band. Rick Rubin, the producer on Electric, had been specifically hired to remake the band's sound in an effort to capitalize on the popularity of hard rock and heavy metal in the 1980s. The album was featured in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
After the breakthrough success of their second album, Love, the Cult began working on a follow-up with producer Steve Brown. In the summer of 1986, they recorded twelve tracks at the Manor Studio in Oxfordshire. These recordings, which came to be known as the Manor Sessions, were to make up a new album, tentatively entitled Peace. However, upon completion of the recording sessions, the band decided that they were unhappy with the sound, and began to look for a new producer.
The band went on to choose Rick Rubin, who was known for producing albums for hip hop artists and thrash metal band Slayer. These new recordings, with a slightly different track-list and running order, became the album that was released.
Although all twelve of the Manor Sessions tracks were initially scrapped, four of them would turn up as B-sides to singles from Electric. A further five of them appeared on a limited edition EP, and with the release of Rare Cult in 2000, the rest of the unreleased Steve Brown-produced tracks were made available.Wild Flower

Into The LabyrinthInto The Labyrinth (1993) is Dead Can Dance's sixth album, one of their most successful releases, its title a reference to the Greek legend of Theseus going into the Labyrinth to slay the Minotaur. It came when Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard had embarked on more individual personal paths, now writing their songs independent of one another, and on separate continents. Engineered and produced by Brendan at his Quivvy Church studio in Ireland, the album is an audiophile benchmark and also noted for being their first without any guests, instead they played all the instruments.

The New America (Pre-Order)For the unrelenting and demonstrably vital crew of Bad Religion, the story of "the new America"
is about more than a distant point on our country's horizon, it's about a creative journey into the
heart of their own punk rock origins and thought-provoking purpose. The group's fifth label release,
THE NEW AMERICA was recorded on the Hawaiian island of Kauai with the famed Todd Rundgren in
the producer's chair.
For the group's singer and songwriter, Greg Graffin, Rundgren's participation in
the recording effectively brought him together with one of his musical heroes and life-long influences.
With the maverick rock star and one of the underground's true originals in the role of project mentor,
Graffin rose to new heights of creativity, performance, passion, and perspective. On dramatic rock
tracks ranging from the propulsive, riff-roaring "You've Got A Chance" and the high-flying anti-anthem
"New America," Graffin sings of a welling optimism tempered by stark reality.
The millennial moment is dramatically surveyed with such insightful numbers as the cyber-sexy "I Love My Computer" and
"A World Without Melody." At the same time, such songs as "Whisper In Time," "A Streetkid
Named Desire," and "1000 Memories" find Graffin taking an introspective walk through personal
crisis, powerfully related in embraceable, universal tones. In the process of moving forward to carve
out one of the band's most dynamically alluring, energized, and communicative albums of their now 20-year-long career, Graffin reunited with former
guitarist and one of Bad Religion's founding members, Brett Gurewitz, to write the driving, soaring (and tellingly-titled) "Believe It." The contributions mark
Gurewitz's first to a Bad Religion album since 1994's RIAA gold-certified STRANGER THAN FICTION.1. You've Got A Chance

The Order Of TimeValerie June's highly anticipated second album, The Order of Time, is set for release via Concord Records. On this enthralling and illuminating leap forward, the Tennessee-bred, Brooklyn-based songwriter weaves electric blues, African rhythms, cosmic atmospherics and delicate soul into an inventive and wholly original rumination on love, family, struggle and the passing of time. Produced by Matt Marinelli (Bad Brains), The Order of Time features twelve original songs all written by June.
Musically, June has refined and expanded her sound on the new album finding space from her previous work in its artful, self-assured restraint and overall cohesion. The collection's finely sketched character studies brim with richness and detail while June's ethereal, wide-open soundscapes provide a sterling backdrop for her remarkable Southern gospel and honey voice. Lyrical touch points such as 'dancing shadows,' 'hot suppers,' 'curious neighbors,' and 'holy water' draw the listener in and root these songs with density and weight.
The "inevitability of change" and "time as the ruler of Earth's rhythm," is the album's foundation, explains June. "And the knowledge that with resilience and faith things can work out."
"Long Lonely Road" is a reflective and somber lament as June's voice reverberates over ringing guitar and unhurried drums, whereas the entrancing blues of "If And" internalizes regret in the face of time's relentless churn. On the spiritual "Astral Plane," June's mystical vocal takes an otherworldly turn, whereas the sumptuous string arrangement on "With You," is reminiscent of Nico's most affecting work. Norah Jones adds her distinctive vocals to three tracks and "Shake Down" sparkles with background vocal contributions from her father, Emerson Hockett and brothers, Patrick and Jason Hockett.
The Order of Time follows June's 2013 breakout LP, Pushin' Against a Stone that established her as one of America's "most intriguing, fully formed new talents" according to the New York Times. She garnered praise from NPR, "a singular performer" and New York Magazine, "a powerful singer and a blunt, bruising songwriter." June also made memorable appearances on The Late Show with David Letterman, CBS Saturday Morning, Rachael Ray, and Austin City Limits. Shooter (Pre-Order)Ever the outlaw, Jennings has now crafted what might well be his most truly idiosyncratic work thus far, SHOOTER. Produced by longtime friend and collaborator, Low Country Sound founder Dave Cobb, at the renowned RCA Studio A on Nashville's Music Row, the album sees Jennings staking out a fairly straightforward goal: to simply make a great country record.
It should be noted, Jennings' last studio album was a genuinely visionary tribute to Giorgio Moroder so in some ways, making a straight up country record is as much of a left turn as anything else in his brilliantly mercurial career thus far. But with songs like Fast Horses & Good Hideouts or the raucous I'm Wild & My Woman Is Crazy, Jennings more than affirms his mission by returning to country's original, if oft misplaced, mandate: singing songs about growing up and getting older, about going out and getting trashed.
In short, making music for real people with real lives. With SHOOTER, Jennings truly puts his own mark on country music, living up to his extraordinary birthright with unparalleled passion, experience, and heart.1. Bound Ta Git Down

The year is 1997. Gas cost $1.19 a gallon, and Drivin N Cryin is a three-piece band comprised of founding members Kevn Kinney on vocals/guitar and Tim Nielsen on bass/mandolin, along with Jeff Sullivan on drums. If you're like me, you probably haven't heard much about their Kosmo Vinyl (The Clash, Sex Pistols, and more) produced (Casino Studio, Atlanta, GA) self-titled album. The record had a short life on radio, with their cover of John Denver's "Leaving on a Jet Plane" getting some airplay in Alabama. Why this album went relatively unnoticed is a mystery to me. Maybe it was their return to their hometown, independent roots, after having left Geffen Records, that resulted in the album's release with little momentum. What I do know for certain, though, is that Drivin N Cryin stayed true to their sound and who they are. A little grit, a little roots.
Now, 21 years later, the record has a title, new cover art (courtesy of Kosmo Vinyl himself), and momentum. With newly remastered songs, the album still holds true to who they are as a band. It's even being released on vinyl for the first time. A quote from tour manager, Scott Munn, gives insight into the climate surrounding that time. "The band was firing on all cylinders going into the studio, and there was a feeling that *this* was their truest representation and the record they had always wanted to make. Have a listen for yourself, and let me know if you solve that mystery. I remember the songs sounded great already, and then Kevn Kinney brought in his secret weapon, Michelle Malone. Her recitation on 'Passing Through' was stunning, timeless, and signaled that the record was totally complete. - Scott Munn "...I'd been around enough musicians, and in enough recording studios, to know what didn't work. I wanted to make a record that sounded, and felt, like the Drivin N Cryin you would go see live. If I could do that, then I knew it would be good. All told, we spent about 2 weeks at Casino, and I think we got what we wanted.
