Soda StereoEngland had The Police, United States had Blondie... and Argentina had Soda Stereo, one of the greatest bands of the new wave explosion and without any doubt one of the most important in the history of Rock in Spanish.
Their debut was a refreshing breath of modernity and smart lyrics: produced by Federico Moura (leader of Virus), the album contained strong attacks against the lack of control of the consumer society, and it was sarcastically launched at a local fast food chain. Soon it was awarded Platinum in Argentina and Peru, and Double Platinum in Chile, making it an essential title to understand modern music in Latin America.

DMZOriginally released in 1978 on Sire Records, DMZ's first and only LP never really fit into the punk/new-wave mold that was forced upon it. These 5 shaggy haired dudes from Boston were more interested in the Sonics than the Sex Pistols and their goal, as stated by frontman Jeff Mono Man Conolly was fusing the sound of the Chocolate Watchband and The Stooges.
Produced by Flo & Eddie, of The Turtles' fame, this album was much maligned at the time but has come to be accepted as a classic record that helped jump start the ongoing garage-rock revival that began in the '80s. Bad ReputationJoan Jett's debut album is an infectious romp through her influences, ranging from classic '50s and '60s rock & roll through glam rock, three-chord
loud'n'fast Ramones punk, and poppier new wave guitar rock. Half the songs on the original album (not counting bonus tracks on the remastered reissue)
are covers, but whether it's Lesley Gore's feminist girl-group anthem You Don't Own Me (featuring the Sex Pistols' Steve Jones and Paul Cook) or a
roaring version of Gary Glitter's Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah), Jett makes them all work. The production can be a little weak in spots, but Jett's
exuberance and tough-girl attitude overcome most deficiencies. Plus, the title track is a classic. - Steve Huey1. Bad Reputation

Slow Wave'Slow Wave' is the beautiful, widescreen cinematic pop record by England's unsung heroes, the cosmic lo-fi quartet It Hugs Back. Led by the intricate songwriting and guitar of Matthew Simms (also guitarist in Wire since 2010), steering clear of standard structures and tunings, working with Jack Theedom (keyboards & vocals), Paul Michael (bass) and Will Blackaby (drums), together they have created their own dream world of sound that is both new and wonderful. Matthew and Jack then slowly built up multiple, interweaving layers of 12 string guitar, mellotron strings & analogue synthesisers and developed intricate mass vocal harmonies before sending the whole lot through their vast collection of old tape delays and phasers - set to slow!1. REDD-REL-4610xThe Album Leaf
Between WaveNearly twenty years into a career that has seen Jimmy LaValle exercising his creativity across the realms of film scoring, sound collage, and electronic / rock music, via instrumental and vocal-driven compositions alike, LaValle and THE ALBUM LEAF are poised to deliver yet another sonic triumph with 2016's Between Waves.
Born out of a thorough reinvention of LaValle's creative process and approach, Between Waves is THE ALBUM LEAF's first proper full-length record in over six years and the first to be recorded and produced as a complete band, and was written with greater emphasis on the group dynamic. The album displays multifaceted, meticulous sound design, a keen ear for balancing disparate influences, and the strongest senses of dynamics, rhythm, and composition THE ALBUM LEAF has displayed to date.
From the moody evolution of Glimmering Lights to the wistful trip-hop stylings of New Soul and beyond, Between Waves is a gorgeous collection of euphoric melodies and emotionally charged, multi-instrumental driven soundscapes from the longstanding innovators. This is intelligent, beautifully composed music at its most inventive, most confident, and most impressive.1. False Dawn

Heat WaveBorn in Eufaula, Alabama, in 1941, the 3rd of 11 children, Martha Reeves moved with her family to the Motor City - Detroit, Michigan - when she was less than a year old. Like so many other R&B and soul singers of the era, she was raised on gospel and started singing in the church, but before long the secular interests of doo-wop and R&B won out and by the age of 18 she had joined her first vocal group, The Fascinations. In 1960 she joined the group that would eventually become Martha & The Vandellas (named after Martha's childhood street, Van Dyke, and her singing idol, Della Reese). After filling in on backup vocals for Marvin Gaye's classic "Stubborn Kind Of Fellow", the group signed their own recording contract with Motown's Gordy label. By the following year, they were having massive chart success with this album's title track, "Heat Wave", and "Quicksand" (both of which were written by the new songwriting trio of Holland-Dozier-Holland). Compiling many of those early hit singles in 1963, Heat Wave is a quintessential piece of the Motown Sound that every record collection needs.1. Heatwave

Brace The Wave"I recorded 'brace the wave' in about 6 days with Justin Pizzoferrato at Sonelab studios in Easthampton Massachusetts ( I have recently moved back to the area after 17 years in LA ). Justin was the engineer for the 3 Dinosaur Jr 'reunion' LP's , "beyond", "farm" and "I bet on sky" . My ease with Justin meant I approached the sessions with a focus and confidence I don't usually feel. Songs like "redeemed" , "wave' and "moving' reprise my early methods of tuning my ukelele down low and writing the song in the moment , during the recording process. Others like "lazy" and "c+e" are live recordings of traditional-style folk songs , some which I began writing nearly 20 years ago. The lyrics encapsulate yet another transitional period in my life . I still don't feel I have a choice but to puzzle over difficult times in my songs. I kept this album short anticipating the listener fatigue associated with a musician who's been around for 25+ years. As a music obsessive myself, I understand. I like new things too. But here it is, 'Lou's Anxiety Song' versions 740 through 749: 'brace the wave' . Thanks for listening." - Lou Barlow1. Redeemed

In A Tidal Wave Of MysteryLos Angeles, CA based duo Capital Cities will release their debut album In A Tidal Wave Of Mystery via Universal Music Canada, the country's leading music company. Founded and fronted by Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonian, two jingle writers who met on Craigslist, Capital Cities first emerged on the soundscape with Alternative Radio hit "Safe and Sound".
RollingStone.com hailed "Safe and Sound" as "a song that merges high-energy dance beats with unbridled optimism and joy" while Neon Gold pronounced it a "sonic head rush an easy, breezy, beautiful slice of effervescent-electro-pop that absolutely kills it." The new lyric video for "Safe and Sound" can be seen here.
In A Tidal Wave Of Mystery takes its name from the lyrics of the hit single, "Safe and Sound" and was produced and mixed entirely by Ryan and Sebu. The album is an eclectic mix of tracks that include fan favorites "Kangaroo Court" and "I Sold My Bed, But Not My Stereo". The artwork is by Brazilian artist Joao Lauro Fonte who has done works for Wired, Converse and others. REDD-MOM-2216xJon Spencer Blues Explosion
Freedom Tower - No Wave Dance Party 2015New York City is a big place. A loud place. Some of that noise is music. And some of the music is noise.
Sucking it all in and turning it loose with prejudice, the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion takes a ferocious bite out of the Big Apple with their new long-player, Freedom Tower - No Wave Dance Party 2015, the first record of the new era that demands to be stopped and frisked!
Like the best sides that percolated up from the Bronx, the Lower East Side, and Greenwich Village across the 1970s and '80s - Freedom Tower is more than a high-octane dance party record, it is a document of New York City, a chronicle of grit and terror and love!
It's all here: The Hustler and The Trust Fund Baby, the Mosh Pit Casualty, the Celebrity Chef, the Crooked Cop, the Struggling Artist, the Sucker MC, the forgotten Sex Workers and Last-Chance Cinderellas. Within these grooves are cold-water tenements, blue-chip galleries, dingy Avenue B studios, and the last real warrior poet whose dark magick brings garage rock ghosts back from the grave!
Freedom Tower is a radical portrait of New York City set to the savage funkacide of the Blues Explosion, locked and loaded with the most deadly, predatory guitar riffs that primitive magnetic tape can handle . From start to finish, Freedom Tower is overmodulated, cooked with dirt, and finished in acid rain! Freedom Tower is packed with the kind of beats and rhymes that will make even the most reserved Walter Mitty jump back and say "damn!"
For nearly a quarter-century the Blues Explosion have been sweating, freezing, eating, drinking, fucking, fighting, winning, and losing in New York City, perpetrating some of the most timeless moments of musical mayhem in the history of Manhattan and beyond. As ever, Jon Spencer tells the tales, Judah Bauer plays the blues, and Russell Simins smashes things to bits... And as always Blues Explosion stomp on the faux underground oasis peddled by bourgeois hipsters and marketing jocks to deliver the real deal - rock'n'roll that is unapologetically nasty and strong.
Rehearsed and polished in a string of secret gigs and unannounced opening slots in theaters, hotel bars, and dives (often under assumed names), and then recorded at the legendary Daptone House Of Soul in Bushwick and mixed with hip-hop cult legend Alap Momin at the cutting edge of Harlem, Freedom Tower is the most provocative statement of urban pathos and panache ever recorded.
Play this record at all-night rent parties, picnics, discotheques, and protests!

Chart-Topping 1974 Record Reunites Dylan With the Band: Interplay Alone Worth Experiencing Set in Highest-Possible Fidelity
Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: Mobile Fidelity Version Brings Underrated Gem to Fullest Light With Warm, Revealing Sound
Edgy Personal Album Captures Legendary Artist Straddling Line Between Romance and Suspicion: Includes Beloved Favorites "Forever Young" and "You Angel You"
Bob Dylan's Planet Waves became an event even before the album was released and revealed itself as an understated masterwork. His first studio recording in nearly four years, the homespun 1974 effort finds him reuniting with the Band, by then firmly established as virtuosos. The chemistry is obvious on every song. And the modest and spare production only magnifies the honesty and purity of the collaboration. Mobile Fidelity's 180g LP deepens the music's emotional connection and rustic warmth to the fullest possible extent.
Mastered from the original master tapes, this collectable audiophile edition brings to the surface the communal interplay and warm, relaxed vibe established by Dylan and the Band. Listeners will finally sense the sensitive tones made possible by the ensemble's laidback nature and watertight playing. The deep body of Richard Manuel's piano, pinpoint decay of Garth Hudson's organ, and clarity of Dylan's vocals emerge with new perspective. As a result, Planet Waves leaps from the background of Dylan's catalog into the fore, the revelatory sonics helping earn the record serious consideration as one of the Bard's finest.
Recorded in just three days time, Planet Waves is at its core an exhibition of the inimitable folk-rock honed by Dylan and the Band. Recalling the Americana spirit of The Basement Tapes while adding a domesticated edginess and subtracting a degree of wildness, the set personifies simple charm and scraggly sweetness. Couched in the context of Dylan grappling with the chasm between family life and the road, Planet Waves fittingly encompasses myriad moods and contradictions, with tunes ranging from unquestionably devotional to overtly dark. In between, the singer attempts to navigate peace, catharsis, and resolve.
Per Dylan's hallmark, many tunes on Planet Waves involve twists and subterfuge. Not, however, the best-known offerings-the often-covered wish "Forever Young," celebratory roll-and-tumble "On a Night Like This," devotional "You Angel You," which spark with love, romance, and prayer-like tenderness. Yet the seeds that blossomed into 1975's traumatic break-up album Blood on the Tracks are also planted here. Complex feelings and deep-seated personal confusion surface on "Wedding Song," the hardscrabble "Tough Mama," piano-centered "Dirge," and knocking-on-heaven's-door darkness of "Going, Going, Gone."
Throughout, Dylan's voice supplies subtle hints about his mindset and intent as the Band shadows him step for step, adding to the thematic ambivalence and contributing to a debate over meaning that continues today. Indeed, such relevance confirms the significance of Planet Waves 40 years after its original release. Mobile Fidelity's analog version digs beneath the surface and helps expose the record's buried strains.

King Of The WavesIts been nearly five years since Little Barrie has released new material, but King of the Waves definitively proves that its been absolutely worth the wait. Since 2007, the band has dedicated themselves to honing their musical reputations, doing everything from appearing live with Primal Scream to collaborations with the likes of Morrissey and Mark Ronson.
Guitarist/frontman Barrie Cadogan and bassist/vocalist Lewis Wharton are joined on the album by the new addition of drummer/vocalist Virgil Howe, son of renowned Yes guitarist Steve Howe. The resulting sound produced by the band is as intensely electrifying as one might expect from such a dynamic and in-demand group of individuals. It calls to mind an old school Detroit rock n roll showdown between Link Wray and The Creation, with the MC5 and Motowns best in attendance to cheer both sides, and the omnipresent threat of a killer wave lurking just overhead.
Longtime friend and collaborator Edwyn Collins co-produced the album with Little Barrie, and sings backing vocals on the track Money In Paper. In Rolling WavesBeyond a life hardwired to pop culture via the 24 hour news feed, The Naked and Famous elicit a romantic connection inspired by the golden era of
alternative rock; a shared response to a teenage soundtrack of epic, emotionally charged mid-nineties music.
Released in March 2011, their ambitious debut Passive Me, Aggressive You featured singles Young Blood and Punching In A Dream. Lauded by
NME, it was a 'classic case of lovely and beautiful: TNAF's passive melodicism and aggressive innovation clash in a dazzling blaze of psych/sonic
fireworks and Rolling Stone magazine described Young Blood as one of the year's best singles. Fronted by Alisa Xayalith and Thom Powers, The
Naked And Famous lit a fire under an online fan base, with a video subculture built through YouTube and into radio. M83 invited TNAF to remix a single
and a Tiesto remix transformed Young Blood into a club smash. Agencies fell into The Naked and Famous slipstream, and theirs became the go-to
soundtrack for gaming, Hollywood and TV shows mining a zeitgeist of young and interesting.
By June 2012, the New Zealand quintet had played to more than 600,000 people in 24 countries, but the band chose to hit pause and embark on a
second album. The resulting album, In Rolling Waves, delivers darkly nuanced, intricately rocking electro gems once again born in bedroom studio
sessions, then demoed in studios in Wales and Australia ahead of recording at Sunset Sound in Hollywood.
Thom Powers sought out Alan Moulder (NIN, Foals, My Bloody Valentine) to mix this daydreaming dark-wave experiment. In 2013, The Naked And
Famous are matured and determined to deliver new music to their fans as soon as possible.LP 1

New Slaves Part II: Essence Implosion! EPZs New Slaves Part II: Essence Implosion! EP on Limited Edition 12 LP + Digital Download With Bonus Tracks
Zs album New Slaves Part II: Essence Implosion! serves as a companion (or sequel) to New Slaves, their acclaimed double album from the spring of 2010 and features a series of focused and diverse remixes of that material by such luminaries as Thee Majesty (Genesis Breyer P-Orridge and Bryin Dall), JG Thirlwell (Foetus), Cex, Gabe Andruzzi (The Rapture), Zebrablood (Excepter), Weasel Walter (Flying Luttenbachers), and Ecstatic Sunshine. It is fascinating to hear these wholly individual talents pontificate about what the music of Zs is to them through their own sounds.
Zs also insinuate themselves in to the mix contributing the opening track MMW IV: Essence Implosion!, a side long epic which uses the aforementioned remixes as a sound palette from which to compose. On it they have furthered the band's kalaedoscopic membership principle that has long centered around the vision of tenor/saxist Sam Hillmer. For this recording he is joined by no-wave hero Weasel Walter, WFMU's Marty McSorely (to put the mix in the remix at the tables), and long-time Zs drummer Ian Antonio. The track also sees the return of founding Zs member, and Extra Life pioneer, Charlie Looker.
On New Slaves Part II: Essence Implosion! Zs' continue to embrace the studio as instrument, including not just the faculties of a studio in their process, but outside remixers and producers as well, demonstrating the ultimately collaborative nature of their approach to music. It is both the perfect accompaniment to New Slaves and a definitive musical statement in its own right. Zs have managed to craft a work that both reflects on (and even interacts with) their past, while also looking forward to its future through new collaborations.1. MMW IV: Essence Implosion!

Summer In The City: Live In New YorkFirst Time Ever On Vinyl!
Remastered From New High-Res Master Files By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio
Double LP Set, Ultra-Quiet 180-Gram Vinyl Pressed At RTI
Beautiful ''Old-Style'' Gatefold Printed By Stoughton
Intervention Records is thrilled to bring Joe Jackson's Summer in the City Live in New York to vinyl for the very first time! Previously available only on CD, Summer in the City joins IR's wildly successful vinyl reissues of Jackson's early New Wave classics Look Sharp!, I'm the Man and Night and Day.
Summer in the City's repertoire is an amazing bridge that spans the greatest hits of Jackson's early canon with stunning new arrangements and covers from other great songwriters. Jackson classics like ''Fools in Love,'' ''You Can't Get What You Want'' and ''It's Different for Girls'' meet with covers as diverse as Duke Ellington's ''Mood Indigo,'' The Beatles' ''Eleanor Rigby'' and Steely Dan's ''King of the World.''
Summer in the City was mastered to vinyl by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio from brand-new high-res master files. Summer in the City was recorded live in New York City in August of 1999 by Steve Remote and Co-Producer Sheldon Steiger. Sony's archivists and Battery Studios' Mike Piacentini compiled new high-res digital master files from the original DATs with the final mixes, and IR consulted with Remote and Steiger on key aspects of the recording to ensure the best possible source files were used. The result is an absolute sonic stunner, brought to new life on this double LP set!
Summer in the City's original album art has been rebuilt into a beautiful gatefold jacket by IR's art director Tom Vadakan.

New History Warfare Vol. 3: To See More LightColin Stetson established himself as an intensely original solo composer and performer in 2011 with the release of the widely acclaimed New History Warfare Vol. 2: Judges. Judges ended up on countless year-end lists and emphatically proved that Stetson's approach to solo saxophone transcends niche or genre; a unique and emotionally resonant instrumental music with influences as wide-ranging as jazz, metal, pop, soul, drone, industrial, minimalism, electro-acoustic and modern contemporary.
Remarkably, Stetson channels these manifold musical strains into a singularly identifiable and personal sound as a polyphonic soloist who doesn't rely on looping/layering or multi-track/overdubs technologies. Anyone who has seen Stetson in solo performance can attest to the stunning physicality of his circular-breathing technique and capacity to produce a seemingly impossible palate of multiple voicings simultaneously in real time - making his already beautiful and evocative compositions all the more enrapturing and viscerally human.
New History Warfare Vol. 3: To See More Light is the final installment in a trilogy of solo albums and is Stetson's most ambitious song cycle to date, again recorded live in single takes with a wide array of microphone positions and again mixed by groundbreaking producer Ben Frost. Colin's membership in Bon Iver over the past two years has also led to vocal contributions from Justin Vernon for this record, who appears on four songs, with a diverse approach on each, and whose voice constitutes the only overdubbing on the album.
The record's 15-minute centerpiece, title track To See More Light, is the longest piece Stetson has yet recorded and possibly the heaviest: a tour de force of swirling arpeggiation, continuous breathing, pumping valves and vocalizations through the reed of the horn that gives way to a tremendous, screaming, sea-sawing dirge through the song's final movement. This latter stretch conjures a sort of saxophonic sludge metal, and the album's heaviosity references other sub-genres of metal as well, most notably in the hardcore blast of Brute (abetted by Vernon's cookie monster barking) and the ambient grindcore throb of Hunted. In other instances, the album is soulful and even hymnal, especially where Vernon's vocals play a lead role: opener And In Truth (featuring Vernon's most instantly recognisable contribution, of massed, multi-tracked harmonies), the cover of Washington Phillips' gospel tune What Are They Doing In Heaven Today, and Who The Waves Are Roaring For where Vernon delivers one of the more tender and honest vocal performances we've heard from him in any context.
New History Warfare Vol. 3: To See More Light is the most cohesive and fully realized of Stetson's solo albums to date. It should reliably stand as the apotheosis of the New History Warfare trilogy, and certainly signals the full flourishing of Stetson's unique talents as both composer and performer, pressing his arsenal of virtuosic techniques into the service of vivid, impassioned and conceptually astute songcraft.1.
