    Five Leaves Left

Nick Drake's bucolic autumnal shades in his debut album of a similar name, heralded a new signing for Island Records: not traditional enough to be folk,
not weird enough to be psychedelic, Drake avoided the pitfalls of what was expected and collaborated with producer Joe Boyd, orchestrator Robert Kirby
and recording engineer John Wood to make a singular and almost unique record released to a largely indifferent media.
A few leaves fell in the right place and Nick's reputation grew, despite his early death at 24 in 1976, escalating into the world-wide fame he enjoys today.

Released initially only on vinyl and cassette, these formats became redundant with the dawning of CD and downloads - leaving a gaping hole that was
filled by high collectors prices for original pressings and the inevitable poor quality bootlegs.

    A Treasury

A singular talent who passed almost unnoticed during his brief lifetime, Nick Drake
produced three studio albums of sombre beauty: FIVE LEAVES LEFT (1969),
BRYTER LAYTER (1970), and PINK MOON (1972). It's impossible to
keep count of the contemporary artists who cite Drake as an inspiration,
but a cursory round-up includes R.E.M., Paul Weller, Travis, Portishead,
The Coral, Coldplay, David Gray, Super Furry Animals and Beth Orton.
Along with household names of his creative lifetime - the Stones,
The Beatles, Marley, Hendrix - his albums have become an unofficial set text
    for anyone passionate about music.

A Treasury is the definitive collection of 15 classic songs by Nick Drake.
With all the profile that he received earlier in the year for his 'rarities' release,
this is the perfect album for curious music lovers to pick up.

This first studio album from Nick Drake, which has garnered posthumous praise and remarkable all-time greatest album ratings, is an exact replica of the original 1969 release: It is pressed on heavyweight audiophile vinyl and remastered from near-original master tapes by the album's original engineer, John Wood. Although the original tapes were unusable, John Wood had made a safety copy of the album in 1969 and those reels were used for this latest session.

The deluxe release comes in a box containing the original shop poster, a smaller live poster and a reprint of Nick's handwritten set list used for his live appearances, together with reproductions of the master tape and box lids. The disc is housed is a single-pocket, textured sleeve just as the original release would have been.

After two albums of tastefully orchestrated folk-pop, albeit some of the least demonstrative and most affecting around, Drake chose a radical change for what turned out to be his final album. Not even half-an-hour long, with 11 short songs and no more -- he famously remarked at the time that he simply had no more to record -- Pink Moon more than anything else is the record that made Drake the cult figure he remains. Specifically, Pink Moon is the bleakest of them all; that the likes of Belle and Sebastian are fans of Drake may be clear enough, but it's doubtful they could ever achieve the calm, focused anguish of this album, as harrowing as it is attractive. No side musicians or outside performers help this time around -- it's simply Drake and Drake alone on vocals, acoustic guitar, and a bit of piano, recorded by regular producer Joe Boyd but otherwise untouched by anyone else.

    Made To Love Magic

    Reissue

The rarities collection, Made to Love Magic, contains demos captured in 1968 (when Drake was studying at Cambridge University) as well as solo-acoustic sketches of later songs - and a newly discovered piece, Tow the Line, which Drake scholars believe is one of the last things he committed to tape. The song, recorded in 1974, was found, unlabeled, at the end of a master tape when original engineer John Wood was mixing this album.

Tow the Line, which lasts 2:16, is classic Drake, as simple as Pink Moon or any of his later works but almost more compelling because of its assertive, driving rhythm. Drake was an unerringly precise guitarist, and Tow the Line is an excellent showcase for his devices: He outlines the verses using a tapestry of delicate, yet tense, descending chords, and then chops out blunt, almost growly blues references on the refrain.

There are other delights on Magic, among them a solo treatment of River Man (from Five Leaves Left) without the string orchestra; the somber, anguishing love ode Clothes of Sand; and a relaxed journey through Rider on the Wheel. Far more interesting than typical demos, laced with the shadowy moods some artists spend years chasing in studios, these casual performances suggest that there was never anything casual about Drake's art: Even when he was just jotting down some idea, he couldn't help infecting it with that strange, mournful magic.

    Garden State Soundtrack

The soundtrack to Zach Braff's Garden State is nearly as much of a piece with the film as the similarly sweet, quirky combinations of sound and vision in Wes Anderson's films and soundtracks. Garden State, however, is more modern in its outlook and more emotionally direct, with a mixtape earnestness belied by using not one but two songs from the Shins' Oh, Inverted World. New Slang is an obvious choice, as the song just seems to grow in stature as time passes, but Caring Is Creepy, Oh, Inverted World's vulnerable, ever-so-slightly unhinged opening track, is not, and adds to the personal, diary-like feel of the album. The bright poignancy of the Shins' tracks stands out even more among the low-key melancholy of songs like Coldplay's Don't Panic, Remy Zero's Fair, and Colin Hay's I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You. The inclusion of Hay's track, Bonnie Somerville's Winding Road, and the Cary Brothers' Blue Eyes shows that Garden State doesn't go for the hipster, too-cool-for-school poses that one might expect from the soundtrack of a hot indie movie, even with the inclusion of Iron & Wine's cover of the Postal Service's Such Great Heights. Still, there's something of a collegiate feel to the soundtrack, especially with the re-rediscovery of Nick Drake (One of These Things First) and Simon & Garfunkel (The Only Living Boy in New York) as well as the tentative forays into electronica and trip-hop like Zero 7's In the Waiting Line, Frou Frou's Let Go, and Thievery Corporation's Lebanese Blonde. Perhaps this collegiate feel comes from the fact that those years are often the time when many people are the most ready and willing to explore music that is new to them (but not necessarily new), but, as the success of Garden State's soundtrack shows, any time can be the right time.

    Ode To A Rainy Day

All Unreleased Material Spanning Robert Lester Folsom's Early Years

    Previously Unreleased Photos And Art

Liner Notes Written By Robert Lester Folsom

Anthology Recordings is pleased to present Ode To A
Rainy Day: Archives 1972-1975, a collection of previously
unreleased home recordings from Robert Lester Folsom.
The 13 tracks in this collection capture the halcyon,
wide-eyed experiments of Folsom who, after going
halves in a reel-to-reel tape recorder with a friend,
recorded all of this material over college summer breaks
in barns, screened porches and bedrooms across Adel,
Georgia. Folsom crafts a delicate form of folk-rock, with
a knack for penning gorgeous ballads (See You Later
I'm Gone, Can't See You), spellbinding instrumental
explorations (Oblivion) and elements of dusty
psychedelia (the farfisa-peppered Written In Your Hair
and On And On). There are echoes of Neil Young
(Southern Man was a favorite cover of Folsom's), Nick
Drake and early Fairport Convention in Folsom's form
and lyricism, that would later become more realized on
his full-length Music And Dreams (1976). Perhaps just as
precious as the songs revived in this collection is the
youthful sense of excitement and experimentation that
    has been captured and preserved.

Camera Obscura create lilting, sophisticated melodies that draw similarities to Belle & Sebastian, The Clientele, or Trembling Blue Stars, but are also rooted in more classic sounds such as Nick Drake, Donovan, or Petula Clark. Songs drift and linger like clouds in a summer sky, with gentle hooks and breezy vocals. This is their 2004 release, lovingly remastered and presented on HQ 180g vinyl with a coupon for MP3 download of the entire album, and two bonus tracks from Merge's CD version of this classic.

Music For A French Elevator and Other Oddities

    Limited Edition Of 2,000 Copies

    Features All 45 Rare B-Sides & Outtakes

While supplies last, we are offering this very special limited-edition vinyl-only double album, Music For A French Elevator And Other Oddities. Originally available
as a part of the hugely acclaimed, super-deluxe A Dot In Time. box set, Music For A French Elevator compiles all of the Books' non-album tracks into one fittingly surreal package befitting the group who essentially created their own genre (often reluctantly described as "collage-pop").

A total of 45 tracks are here, including standouts and longtime favorites "Classy Penguin," "8 Frame," and their sublime Nick Drake cover "Cello Song Feat. Jose Gonzales." Along with their commissioned pieces for the 1% art and sound installation in the Ministry of Culture in Paris, France, the collection includes the Books' unreleased film score for the feature-length Biosphere 2 documentary, a stellar collection of counterpoint electroacoustic explorations that emanate the kind of wry charm and wit that became a staple of the Books' music.

Packaged in an impeccably designed die-cut jacket with metallic inks, this collection proves that even the Books' non-album material is worthy of emphatic celebration and
    adoration.

    The Phoenix And The Turtle

April 2014 will see the release of her new album entitled The Phoenix and the Turtle. Described by Beverley as a very personal album, it features songs written throughout her entire career, from her very first song, ''Sweet Joy'', to the previously unrecorded Nick Drake & Beverley Martyn song ''Reckless Jane'' which was started in 1974 when Drake lived nearby Beverley in Hampstead. ''We started writing the song as a bit of a joke,'' she says, ''When John and I lived in Hampstead Nick lived one stop down the tube line, and he would come around and babysit sometimes. I couldn't look at it for a long time after he died, but then finally I decided to finish it.''

''When The Levee Breaks' and 'Going To Germany' are songs Beverley used to sing with The Levee Breakers. Another song, 'Women And Malt Whiskey' is, in part, about John Martyn and other friends from the scene back then.

The Phoenix and the Turtle is Beverley's first album in fourteen years and was recorded in Wales with guitarist and producer Mark Pavey; it also features contributions from bass player Matt Malley, ex-Counting Crows and drummer Victor Bisetti, ex-Los Lobos which were recorded ''by the magic of computer'' in California. The album ''still has that in-a-room feel,'' said Beverley recently, ''it sounds like an old style analogue record. It's very me, very transatlantic.''

Sundazed is ecstatic to be able to reissue Spence's cult classic with original track listing, liner notes and photos intact. Spence-a founding member of seminal San Fran skullbenders Moby Grape-cut his only solo work in Nashville immediately after being released from New York's Bellevue Hospital late in 1968. Unavailable on the collector's market these days at any price, Oar vanished without a trace when first released in 1969. What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World

What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World is The Decemberists' 7th studio album. Produced by the band and long-time collaborator Tucker Martine (My Morning Jacket, Neko Case), it is The Decemberists' first full-length studio album since 2011's The King Is Dead, which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in Jan of 2011. The Decemberists have sold more than 1.6 million albums to date in the US. From the soaring first single 'Make You Better'to the acoustic ruminations of the Nick Drake influenced 'Lake Song' and triumphant closer 'A Beginning Song', What a Terrible World, What a Beautiful World, is the band's most varied and dynamic work, both musically and emotionally. Since their earliest recordings more than a decade ago, the
Decemberists have always been known for their sense of scope and daring-from "The Tain," an eighteen-and-a-half minute 2004 single based on an Irish myth to their last two ambitious, thematic albums, The Hazards of Love and The King is Dead. This time, though, Meloy explains that they took a different approach: "Let's make sure the songs are good, and eventually the record will present itself."

    I Forget Where We Were

Although Ben Howard often gets compared to Nick Drake or John Martyn, the English singer/songwriter was raised on his parents' Bob Dylan and Joni
Mitchell records. Howard's debut album, Every Kingdom (2011), received much critical acclaim. Over pedaling rhythms and subtly catchy melodies,
Howard unleashes his scratchy voice, which segues into subtly layered gang vocals during the chorus.

    Passerby

In a world where instant gratification is the norm, patience has become
a rare commodity. But for Zoë Randell and Steve Hassett, who make up
indie-folk duo Luluc (pronounced Loo-LUKE), letting things unfold in
due time not only defines their career trajectory, it also works as a pretty
good description of their approach to making music. Music that Sub
Pop co-founder Jonathan Poneman describes as bracing, subtle, tender
    and magnificent.

So while it may seem like Randell and Hassett's history is littered with
all kinds of good luck-from their initial meeting to their relationship
with The National's Aaron Dessner to opening slots with artists like
Lucinda Williams, Fleet Foxes, and JosÉ Gonzàlez; to their deal with Sub
Pop; to grabbing the attention of Nick Drake's producer-being in the
right place at the right time isn't just about fate. It's about knowing when
something feels right and having the confidence that people will respond
    when they're ready.

There's no question that everything these Australians (who split their
time between Melbourne and their adopted hometown of Brooklyn) have
done in their lives has been leading up to this summer's Passerby, their
second album overall and first available worldwide. Passerby is a gorgeously
crafted 10-track album full of beautiful, slow-burning melodies and
delicate harmonies, which drip out of their mouths like honey. The
attention to detail is unmistakable, and highlights like "Reverie On
Norfolk Street" and "Early Night" are as haunting as they are hummable.
Unadorned guitars and voices make up the bulk of the dreamy sound,
though the power of the added instrumentation can't be overstated, with
well-placed piano, percussion, double bass, sax, trumpet, trombone,
and more adding color to the cosmopolitan atmosphere. Band favorites
like Simon and Garfunkel and Gillian Welch (and, of course, Nick Drake)
can be felt throughout Passerby, while the poignant restraint aligns them
    well with labelmates Low.

Co-produced by the band and Dessner, Passerby shows off all of Luluc's
best qualities, retaining the gentle beauty of the duo's debut while adding
textures built with a cadre of impressive players. It's the trophy celebrating
Luluc's airtight case that good things-no, make that great things-really
do come to those who wait. The wait is over. The world is ready to hear
    Luluc quiet and clear.

"Broken Twin is the most arrestingly beautiful songwriter we've heard in aeons." - NME

"Something about the unaffected clarity of Broken Twin rings true straight away" - Pitchfork

ANTI- is delighted to announce the signing of Danish artist Broken
Twin: the performing moniker of a young and exciting musician, Majke
Voss Romme. After formative years spent listening to artists such as
Leonard Cohen, Bill Callahan, Nico and Nick Drake, Broken Twin has
found her own voice by delivering haunting piano-based compositions
with vocals that echo the stark beauty and eeriness of the northern
landscape. Her 2012 self-released EP Hold On To Nothing and deeply
moving live performances have already begun to cause a stir in the
music press. NME declared that "Broken Twin is the most arrestingly
beautiful songwriter we've heard in aeons," while Pitchfork selected
her for Best New Tracks and stated that "there's something about the
unaffected clarity of Broken Twin that rings true straight away."

    This Sweet Old World

Three-time Grammy Award winner Lucinda Williams is set to release This Sweet Old World - a re-recording of her beloved 1992 album Sweet Old World - to celebrate the 25th anniversary of its release.

This Sweet Old World features updated interpretations of songs such as "Prove My Love", "Sidewalks of the City", "Memphis Pearl" and "Lines Around Your Eyes". Williams breathes new life into classics "Pineola", "Sweet Old World", "Something About What Happens When We Talk", "Little Angel, Little Brother" and Nick Drake's "Which Will". "He Never Got Enough Love" is transformed with additional verses, new sound and new title, "Drivin' Down A Dead End Street", which was the song's original title.

The arrangements on This Sweet Old World are tighter and rawer than the original and feature Williams' fantastic touring/studio band: guitarist Stuart Mathis, bassist David Sutton, and drummer Butch Norton. Guitarist Greg Leisz, who actually participated in the early sessions for the 1992 album, adds his masterful playing to the new recordings.

As if re-recording an entire studio album was not already an unprecedented move, Williams and company also chose to re-record the four tracks that were not included on the original release. This Sweet Old World features new versions of "Factory Blues", "Dark Side of Life", John Anderson's "Wild and Blue" and the John Leventhal/Jim Lauderdale-penned "What You Don't Know".

    Box Of Birch

Richard Skelton is an artist from Lancashire in the UK. He started his Sustain-Release Private Press in 2005 as a commemorative tribute to his late wife Louise, with the intention of publishing her artwork alongside his own musical offerings. Since its inception he has released a slew of raw, beautiful recordings presented in lovingly-assembled, individualised editions. Operating under a variety of guises, including Heidika, Carousell, Harlassen and Clouwbeck, Skelton creates powerful, instrumental music out of densely-layered acoustic guitar, bowed strings, piano, mandolin and accordion, often laced with delicate, shimmering percussion. The result is something utterly unique, a music which is both life-affirming and yet etched with memory and loss, evoking equal parts Arvo PÄrt and Ry Cooder, Nick Drake and Henryk Górecki.

It is with A Broken Consort, perhaps, that Skelton most-assuredly draws these elements together, creating an ever-changing drift of rich textures and interleaved melody that effortlessly evokes the landscapes which inspired it. Box Of Birch, his second album in this guise, was originally published in a boxed edition that contained, among other things, birch twigs collected from the West Pennine Moors. For Skelton these things act as a synecdoche for the landscape itself, a physical connection to the places in which much of his music is recorded. In this new edition for Tompkins Square, Skelton has created an exclusive series of artworks which draw on the hidden histories of the English landscape, and their narratives of displacement and loss. The result is something which perfectly complements the music whilst adding another dimension, providing a fuller picture of the artists vision.

    Notes Of Blue

Led by the songwriting and vocals of Jay Farrar, Son Volt was one of the most instrumental and influential bands in launching the alt.country movement of the 1990's. A movement that was the precursor to what is now widely referred to as Americana.

The 10 songs on Notes Of Blue are inspired by the spirit of the blues, but not the standard blues as most know it. The unique and haunting tunings of Mississippi Fred McDowell, Skip James and Nick Drake were all points of exploration for Farrar for the new collection. The album opens with the country soul of "Promise The World", followed by "Back Against The Wall", a song that could stand alongside the great Son Volt songs of their early albums.

Farrar possesses one of the most distinctive voices in roots, rock, country or any genre. He exudes a soulful longing combined with a wise-beyond-his-years command that is as arresting and compelling as ever. As a songwriter, Farrar's depth and poetic penchant has been the foundation of a thoughtful, deep and intelligent body of work. Both attributes are on full display on Notes Of Blue, as he touches on themes of redemption and the common struggle, both of which are at the core of the blues. Whether you call it alt.country, Americana, roots rock, insurgent country or just good ol' rock 'n' roll, musical trends appear and disappear on regular basis. Notes Of Blue is a testament to the legacy of inspiration and creative spirit that Jay Farrar and Son Volt continue to uphold.
