    The Ultimate Analogue Test LP

    Editors Editors Editors Editors

Analogue Productions set out to produce the ultimate test record.

We've consulted many experts in the field, including mastering engineers, audio experts, turntable experts and audiophile listeners, to create a test record that's never been made before. When Barry Wolifson from Sterling Sound in New York City called us with the same idea we had been thinking about - that being to create the ultimate test record - he and our audio expert Clark Williams began to brainstorm and research ideas until they were both completely satisfied with what should go on the record.

Most of the test records in the past have been made to test a variety of equipment. This test record excludes silly cannon shots, typewriters, voices on one channel and other useless fluff. This one specifically addresses your turntable and cartridge. It's designed to provide the basic test signals necessary to calibrate a turntable or cutting lathe as simply as possible. Most of the signals have specific implications, but it is certainly possible to use them in any number of novel ways.

This record was mastered and cut on a Neumann VMS 80 lathe at Sterling Sound and pressed at Record Technology, Inc. on high-quality, 180-gram virgin vinyl.

    Side 1

    General Reference Level

This 1 kHz reference tone will allow you to establish a "base level" for all measurements.
Track 1 1Khz reference tone 7cm/s Mono, in phase (Lateral)

Basic reference for all measurements, adjust meter for maximum convenience (in the studio 0VU).
Adjust preamp channel balance for equal output.
Also used to check the offset angle of the photo cartridge; L&R signals should be exactly in phase as displayed on an oscilloscope.

    Azimuth Adjustment

Track 2 1kHz reference level Left channel only

    Measure Right channel output.

Track 3 1kHz reference level Right channel only

    Measure Left channel output.

The object is to sit the stylus exactly perpendicular in the groove.

Twist cartridge about its radial axis until the measurements from Track 2 and Track 3 are equal or very close to equal for both channels.

    High Frequency Adjustment

Tracks 4, 5 and 6 are used to calibrate the RIAA high frequency equalizer of a phono preamp. This will be used to calibrate a mastering lathe's phono preamplifier or any phono preamplifier that has these adjustments.

Track 4 1 kHz tone at -20 below reference level, Lateral

    Reference for High Frequency test.

Track 5 10 kHz reference tone at -20dbu, Lateral
Adjust the high frequency until the output level equals that of Track 4.

Track 6 1 kHz to 20 kHz sweep at -20dbu, Mono (Lateral)

The AC millivoltmeter reading should stay constant across all frequencies. There are a number of factors which can affect frequency response, including cable capacitance, cartridge loading, tracking force and worn parts. Because of this, it can be difficult to achieve perfectly flat frequency response. Sometimes by making small compromises in the 10 kHz adjustment, a better overall frequency response can be achieved.

    Low Frequency Adjustment

Tracks 7 & 8 are used to calibrate the RIAA low frequency equalizer of a phono preamp.

Track 7 1 kHz to 20 Hz sweep at 0 VU (Lateral)

Play Track 7 and measure the output with your AC millivolt meter.

Ideally, the output will be flat across all frequencies. When viewed on an oscilloscope, the amplitude would remain constant during the frequency downsweep.

Track 8 100 Hz reference tone at 0 vu (Lateral)
Adjust LF Eq to reference (which is your reading from Track 1).

    Track 9 VTA adjust

This is an IEC intermodulation distortion (IMD) test signal; 60Hz & 4kHz 4:1 ratio.

Using an IMD tester, adjust VTA by raising or lowering the tonearm for minimum distortion.

Track 10 Standard Wow & Flutter test signal; 3150Hz
The Wow & Flutter meter will give dynamic speed variations as a percentage deviation from nominal.

Also, the frequency counter should read exactly 3150 Hz for nominal speed. You can use the Hz function on your multi-meter (if so equipped) to verify speed here as well. You can also use to find the measurements at 45RPM. The correct reading at 45RPM would be 4253 Hz (45/33.33) x 3150.

    Side 2

Track 1 Anti-skating test; 315Hz amplitude sweep to +12dbu (Lateral)

Signal should remain clean in both channels up to the highest level, both audibly and as viewed on an oscilloscope. In case of distortion, increase anti-skating force or decrease anti-skate until breakup occurs equally in both channels. The left channel information is inscribed on the inner groove wall, the right channel information, on the outer groove wall. Because of the offset angle of a pivoted tonearm, a constantly varying vector force biases the arm towards the center of the record causing the stylus to lose contact with the outer (i.e. right channel) groove wall. Both linear and modulated groove velocity, tracking force, stylus profile, and vinyl composition are contributing factors. The anti skating force attempts to ameliorate this by applying an opposing similar force.

It is also accepted that the overall force vector increases as the tonearm approaches closer to the spindle or end of the record.

    Track 2 Pink noise lateral

    Track 3 Pink noise vertical

    Used for cartridge "demagnetizing"

You can also use this track to loosen up the cantilever's suspension to help break in a new cartridge. Play these tracks five to ten times after every 300 hours of normal LP playback.

    Track 4 1kHz @ reference level, vertical
This out-of-phase signal should cancel to nothing when summed to mono.

Any signals still present are distortion artifacts, lack of channel balance, or timing (phase) anomalies. This test can be a second confirmation of anti-skate adjustment.

    Track 5 1kHz to 10Hz sweep @ -20 below

    reference level, vertical
Resonance anomalies in the tonearm / cartridge interface will show up as amplitude peaks and dips as the frequency sweeps down.

Once again, by listening in 'Mono' it is easier to hear the distortion artifacts.

Track 6 Silent groove for bearing rumble and table isolation

During playback of this track, nothing should be transmitted from the turntable to the speakers. Replay the track and gently tap on the rack or base that the turntable is resting on. There should be little or no thump transferred to the speakers. This track will help you experiment with turntable isolation methods and products to be able to get the most out of your playback system. You may want to use a closed or sealed headphone for best listening results, or a stethoscope on the plinth.

    Stitches

Stitches, the new album from Califone, touches on all permutable definitions of the word, its episodes of discomfort and healing rendered with exquisite beauty and craftsmanship. Archetypes and mythological figures rub shoulders with bruised civilians throughout this odyssey. Intimate timbres, garage sale drum machines, slack guitar strings and hushed vocals offset the album's cinematic inclinations. The listener moves through a landscape of Old Testament blood and guts, spaghetti Western deserts and Southwestern horizons, zeroing in on emotions and images that cannot be glanced over.

    Machine City EP

Limited Pressing Of 1000 Copies Worldwide W/ Spot Gloss Cover

A rare musical maturity weaving live instrumentation into an electronic sound world- Quietus

Crystallized melodic sparkle and rhythms running from Actress-like flights to low-slung bomp Boomkat

What Circle Traps do may not be dance music, but their subtlety of touch and the adeptness of sound design is sure to win
them fans from that quarter, as well as many others Inverted Audio

Created in an industrial workplace in Leyton, where Canary Wharf punctures the skyline, Circle Traps craft music made
in the image of the modern city. The group consists of Jack Wyllie, Duncan Bellamy and Will Ward and was formed in
East London in 2010 and quickly scored their first release on fellow East Londoner Subeena's Opit Records in early 2011.
Their eponymous debut EP earned serious critical praise from the likes of The Wire, Quietus and Fact Magazine. Their
attention to ambient textures is reminiscent of Actress and Daniel Lopatin, but their unique, multi-layered, crystalline
vision is consistently offset by dance floor impulses that nod to Detroit through the likes of Model 500 and Derrick May.
The Machine City EP is a lush amalgamation of textural, distorted melody and bassier dance floor leanings.

A World Lit Only By Fire (Awaiting Repress)

The first new long player from GODFLESH since 2001's 'Hymns' which saw the band implode and then eventually split up following its release. Since the band reformed in 2010 new material has slowly emerged. 'A World Lit Only By Fire', like the 'Decline & Fall' EP that came out in June, have been works in progress for almost 2 years.

"The music speaks entirely for itself, this is pure Godflesh, as the concept was originallyintended; minimal, brutal, dissonant, driven by machines yet paradoxically dominated by organic and harsh down tuned guitars and bass, clean dub inflected vocals offset against harsh raging minimal shouts, and this is not to forget the worship of the omnipresent groove. Although the band could now be considered mature, and often with this maturity comes peace, this album has been perceived as the most aggressive and consistently fierce release in the band's career, something that the band are very proud of."

Themes of futile battles against the institutions that control our everyday lives, social conditioning, submitting and resigning oneself to the savage within, slavery and the abuse of power permeate and fuel these songs.

GODFLESH is Justin K Broadrick's yin to jesu's yang.

    iFi Audio iPurifier2

Have a question about this product? Please email our audio advisor or call 1-877-929-8729 with any questions or concerns regarding your equipment purchase.

The USB audio platform is well-established, yet as with any audio transmission protocol, unwanted factors hinder the audio quality. iFi's obsession with 'cleaning up' the USB audio chain drawn from the knowledge base of AMR. As early as 2012, iFi invented the first USB power regenerator - the iUSB Power. This was swiftly followed by professional USB audio cables - the Mercury and Gemini. Later came the USB audio filter - the original iPurifier. Fast-forward to 2015 and we now have the iPurifier 2.

Most effective at the end (rather than the beginning) of the 'digital USB audio chain' the iPurifier 2 cleans up the USB transmission. There is an iPurifier 2 perfectly suited to every DAC.

    All-new, cutting-edge

In an all aircraft-grade CNC-aluminium shell anodised in 'titanium'the all-new iPurifier 2 features the very latest USB audio technology from Active Noise Cancellation® to REclock® and REgenerate®, whilst still retaining the original REbalance®.

Active Noise Cancellation® drawn from military radar technology

Drawing from the military field (specifically the Thales Spectra radar cancellation system deployed in the French Dassault Rafale jet fighter), iFi adapted this technology to exclusively introduce the Active Noise Cancellation® (ANC®) audio power system. It is now a cornerstone of the ever-improving iFi USB audio technology, looking for new products to feature ANC® and ANC+®.

By generating a signal identical to the noise signal but in the exact opposite phase, it actively cancels all the incoming noise. ANC® is the perfect 'antidote' for power supply noise, the bane of USB audio.

ANC® measured, noise drops by 100 times or 40dB in comparison to the Common Noise Filter. Sonically, the background and inner resolution to recordings is enhanced several levels.

    REclock® reclock/regenerate/repeat the signal

Re-clocking is beneficial to audio. REclock® is a '3-in-1' feature that re-clocks/re-generates/repeats USB audio datastream. For any and every downstream DAC, REclock® technology eliminates jitter. Music flows better, is cleaner, deeper and tauter, just like the real thing.

    REbalance® rectify the unbalanced signal

A core element of the original iPurifier's success was REbalance® which has naturally been carried over to the iPurifier 2. By removing the DC offset and 're-balancing' the USB audio signal, it is now perfectly balanced. As it purifies the USB audio data stream, this means noise is significantly reduced.

    Future-proofed. Like no other

At iFi, we already develop cutting-edge, advanced audio converters from AMR trickle-down technology. Given this pedigree, the iPurifier 2 (just like the original iPurifier) is ready for all present and future PCM/DSD/DXD formats - without restriction.

So your iPurifier 2 will improve your USB audio playback experience for many years to come.

    The iFi 'Grand Slam'

To reach the absolute zenith in USB audio quality, iFi loves to push past the envelope of what is considered possible. We recommend the existing iUSB Power (to supply pure, clean power) and the Gemini cable (for separate audio + power transmission). Coupled with the iPurifier 2 to re-clock/regenerate and filter audio+power just prior to entering the iUSB Power (in this instance, not at the DAC end).

    Plastic Surgery Disasters

Remastered And Available In A Deluxe Gatefold Sleeve

Having proved themselves masters of the quick, vicious smash and bash, on their second full-length album the Kennedys continued in that vein while finding other effective ways to express their all-encompassing message of resistance and satire. Absolutely nobody is safe, whether it's the more expected targets of conservative society, or those who claim to follow what the Kennedys and punk promised but only ended up acting like idiots. For the most part, though, it's a well-deserved smackdown of all the jerks the early '80s produced, set to some fantastic music.

Bookended by random noise jams -- the first one with a wonderfully dismissive spoken-word analysis on societal programming for The Good Life -- Plastic Surgery Disasters shows East Bay Ray, Klaus Fluoride and D.H. Peligro turning into an even more awesome unit than before. Ray's sheet-metal intense guitar may once or twice get slammed into too much treble for its own good, but his spaghetti-western-cranked-to-ten playing is fantastic stuff at its best. The others have their moments, like Peligro's rolling drum breaks on Trust Your Mechanic. When the band aims for subtlety, the results are grand -- the sudden silences on Trust Your Mechanic, the goofy hipswing start to Forest Fire. Unsurprisingly, Biafra is still at the center of it all; once again, the song titles make it clear what's at play. Terminal Preppie, rips into an example of the type with gusto, and the wonderfully sneering Winnebago Warrior is just the tip of the iceberg. The real highlight can be found at the end -- Moon Over Marin, with a soaring, anthemic surf-rock line from Ray offsetting Biafra's semi-apocalyptic vision of the Bay Area's snooty region.

San Francisco's Deafheaven found massive critical success when their 2013 album Sunbather was an unexpected crossover hit, earning the band a 92/100 Metacritic score and ending the year as the best reviewed album of 2013. No one could have anticipated a band that drew from equal parts Weakling and My Bloody Valentine ascending to such heights, and that incomprehensibility added to the band's singularity and allure.

Two years later, founding members George Clarke and Kerry McCoy began working on their ANTI debut, New Bermuda, with a new perspective. Says Clarke: "Sunbather yearned for something better. New Bermuda focuses on the idea of false promise, achieving something and wondering if it's what you really wanted in the first place." McCoy shares that sentiment: "Sunbather sounds like people who have nothing but are satisfied with life. There's an uplifting quality to it. But New Bermuda is a very tense record." McCoy cites death metal demigods Dissection and Morbid Angel, the blackened death pioneers Behemoth, and Cliff Burton-era Metallica as influences on the new album.

As New Bermuda progresses, Deafheaven travels further outside of their comfort zone, feasting on other niches of underground metal and offsetting the blunt force of their feral rage with more complex and nuanced beauty. A sophisticated and subdued pop element kicks off "Baby Blue", before the band abruptly shifts into an amalgam of NWOBHM's anthemic urgency and thrash metal's racing chugs. There's a brief comedown where the band veers into the musique concrete soundscapes and hushed melodrama of early Godspeed You! Black Emperor before "Come Back" resumes the band's merciless assault of stampeding drums and vitriolic guitar harmonies, only to shift mid-song into the somber territories of 4AD's early catalog. Which is not to say that Deafheaven have softened their approach; New Bermuda offers the most punishing music of the band's career in the wake of their greatest success.

    Gamel

OOIOO has always created a musical language all its own. Under the leadership of Yoshimi P-We, also a founding member of Boredoms, the group has recorded six albums that have subverted expectations and warped perceptions of what constitutes pop and experimental music. Four years of work went into to making Gamel, their bold new album inspired by the Javanese style of gamelan and the first new music from Yoshimi in over five years. Gamelan is an ancient form that has inspired a great many composers and musicians over the past century, from Erik Satie and Claude Debussy to Mouse on Mars and Sun City Girls. The introduction of this traditional form transformed the group into a super tribe, side-stepping the road between the past and the future. Their focus is not to replicate these ancient styles, but to incorporate them into their consistently inventive, constantly shifting musical frameworks. They take their love of indigenous music into an entirely new dimension by freely weaving organic and electric tones into a vivid tapestry, employing their keen sense of color and texture.

While previous OOIOO albums have been largely studio creations, Gamel is the most accurate portrayal of the band's overwhelming, forceful live presence they have released yet. Yoshimi leads her minimalistic rhythm ensemble by making quick, impulsive shifts in tone and attack, the group acting as one mind under her expert instruction. While the gamelan elements will be brand new to many listeners, the band offsets the bizarre with familiar, at times even nostalgic and childlike, melodies. Gamel is euphoric, bursting at the seams with an exhilarating frenzy that is universal yet uniquely their own. OOIOO's music is reflected in the ear of the beholder, with each listener taking away something different.

Yoshimi began her music career in 1986 playing drums in UFO or Die with vocalist Eye, and later joined him in the revolutionary noise-pop group Boredoms. Her explosive drum performances captivated audiences and even inspired Wayne Coyne to name a now-famous Flaming Lips album in her honor. While the band's tours of the United States are infrequent, they are as the New York Times has stated, transcendent.

    The Divine Miss M

    Numbered Limited Edition

Midler's Grammy-Winning 1972 Debut Announces the Birth of a Superstar

Record Overflows With Energy and Personality: Torch Songs, Girl-Group Classics, Campy Remakes, Theatrical Pieces Delivered With Supreme Emotion

Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI (Best Plant in North America): Midler's Voice Upfront and Centered, Every Nuance of Her Phrasing Laid Bare

Oh, behave! Bette Midler's sparkling, energy-pulsing 1972 debut features the singer honing her trademark brassy personality as well as showing off an intimate, raw edge that fell by the wayside later in her career. Witness her forlorn, melancholic, and heartbroken moods, all conveyed with supreme emotion on several riveting ballads. But this LP is no downer. Midler offsets any bleakness with playfully campy songs laced with unadulterated enthusiasm and joyous defiance. This is a diva lover's delight. The music is astonishingly alive. A superstar is born!

Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's world-renowned mastering system and pressed at RTI (the best record plant in North America), Silver Label numbered limited edition LP presents The Divine Miss M with the warmly cozy and front-row perspective that the music demands. Midler's voice is transparent and full, the timbrel shadings colorfully outlined, the vocal images appearing as if she's singing just a few feet away. Similarly, her cast of back-up vocalists (the Harlettes) receives ample face time on songs that come across as if performed by a girl-group revue. Midler has cut many records in her career but none are this entertaining, diversified, and, now, sonically spectacular.

There's always risk associated with interpreting other artists' classics and hits, but Midler makes every song here her own. She injects Chapel of Love with extra swagger and feminine gusto. In her hands, the Carpenters' Superstar becomes more heartbreaking, filled with desolate sentiment and lonesome ache. John Prine's ballad Hello In There echoes, as if sung to an empty room, with forlorn emotion. The 50s smash Leader of the Pack positively stomps and declares, her band in tow, that she's not going to be stopped. Indeed, Midler's interpretations of these staples surpass the previous versions, mostly due to her impeccable strong vocals and contagious passion. She doesn't quit. And don't you dare decline her offer on Do You Want to Dance!

What else can be said of her trademark Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, her update of the Andrews Sisters' jazzy hit landing in the Top 10, featuring a scat vocal (!), and smartly walking the line between campy fun and serious reverence. Similarly, Midler's two takes of Friends--the first off-the-cuff, wild, snappy, and humorous; the second slightly cooler and infused with gorgeous harmonies--remain modern marvels. There's not a bad note on this incredible record.

The Divine Miss M has always been prized for its clear, clean production. Mobile Fidelity's Silver Series LP further improves the sound, which, in combination with Midler's performances, make this collectible reissue an absolute no-brainer!

    Joyride (Pre-Order)

    Release Date: June 29, 2018*

The highly anticipated sophomore album from singer, songwriter, producer and performer, Tinashe, is finally here. Joyride is Tinashe's sophomore album released with RCA Records and features 13 tracks including previously released tracks "No Drama" featuring Offset, "Faded Love" featuring Future and "Me So Bad" featuring French Montana and Ty Dolla $ign.

The album is a melodic overview of Tinashe's discography, from her pop-influenced singles to the moodiness of previous mixtapes like Nightride and Amethyst all while spotlighting her production and songwriting talent. Where title track "Joyride" introduces the album with fervor and hunger, the Little Dragon-assisted "Stuck With Me" breaks in between; keeping the listener guessing on what's to come next. Frequently labeled as a triple-threat, the young 25-year-old syncs her lyrics with some of the industry's biggest stars to make Joyride the total package and one of her most exciting bodies of work yet.

    Fozgometer Azimuth Range Finder

The FOZGOMETER represents a breakthrough for adjusting phono system azimuth.

To obtain high performance from a modern phonograph system, the tonearm and pickup cartridge must be properly adjusted to within a few thousands of an inch. There are several alignment gauges available to adjust overhang and offset. To adjust cartridge azimuth (Axial Tilt), it has been necessary to use lab quality equipment and a test record. Azimuth may be adjusted using an oscilloscope, AC voltmeter, or computer program. These methods can be expensive and time consuming.

The FOZGOMETER incorporates a "Log Ratio Detector" developed for surround processor steering logic circuits to measure channel separation over a wide range of signal levels down to -70 dB. The readings are virtually independent of overall signal levels, and can be made with a wide range of input signals without effecting accuracy. It is a small portable battery powered unit that is used in conjunction with a test record. It measures channel separation, channel balance, and signal direction quickly and accurately. Readings are taken without touching the meter, leaving your hands free to work with the tonearm. The meter reads channel separation in both directions, and channel balance. The LED's indicate Left, Center, and Right signal (test tone) positions.

    Home Economics

Limited Edition Of 1000 Copies On Wine Colored Vinyl

Mastered By Bob Weston At Chicago Mastering Service

Prinzhorn Dance School are still recognizably the same spiky Brighton-based duo whose ultra-rigorous debut cut through the excess of 2008 like a scimitar through bacon fat. But with their trademark stripped-down intensity now winningly off-set by moments of unabashed tenderness, their third album Home Economics continues and even accelerates the move away from austerity and into human warmth begun by its acclaimed 2011 predecessor Clay Class. All the best six-track albums - The Fall's Slates, Orange Juice's Texas Fever - know exactly what they want to say and how they intend to say it. Home Economics shares that infectious sense of urgency. There's not an inch of spare meat on it - from Reign's snatched moment of optimism, through Battlefield's restorative meeting of minds with an urban fox on a drunken walk home in the early hours, to Let Me Go's concluding tribute to "a love that won't rewind and will not be deleted". Spindly yet sensuous, together and alone, exquisitely sad but somehow full of hope, Prinzhorn Dance School knit together disparate and even opposite fragments into an utterly satisfying whole.
