On The Border'
On The Border
Certified Multi-Platinum (2 times) by the RIAA. (3/01)
On their third album, the Eagles finally produced a No. 1 hit with The Best of My Love, but most of On the Border is marked by tough rockers, not sweet ballads. Already Gone is a brusque kiss-off and Midnight Flyer a bluegrass kicker, while James Dean recalls the '50s rebel icon, and the title track reflects on paranoia and creeping Big Brotherism. The Eagles also cover a Tom Waits tune, Ol' 55, and pay tribute to alt-country godfather Gram Parsons on My Man. The album title is prophetic in the sense that the band that made this record (bolstered by the addition of guitarist Don Felder) was on the verge of greatness, but not quite there yet. --Daniel Durchholz1. Heartless HeathenFronting some of the most original, compelling and unpredictable bands
(not only in Detroit, but the world) for over two decades, Tim Lampinen's
work with the Epileptix, Clone Defects, and Human Eye has always held
a rapturous cult following. Yet his work with his current trio, Timmy's
Organism, presents Lampinen (aka Timmy Vulgar) along with bassist Jeff
Giant and drummer Blake Hill, ready for their close-up.
Heathen the group touches on their artistic and spiritual forbears of
Captain Beefheart and Destroy All Monsters, while amply ramping up the
slop culture rapture of classic punk 'n' roll like Chrome, Crime, and the

why Lampinen won a $25,000 Kresge Grant for his work with his bands...

Love's Crushing DiamondMutual Benefit's newest offering is an emotional one, ripe with tender evocations of a love that just won't take. It would be hard to believe anyone who said this record is not in response to a great loss. We've all been there. Teetering on the border between letting go and great hope, Jordan Lee sculpted Love's Crushing Diamond to perfectly capture the dark pit of the unfortunately frequent and very real human state of vulnerability.
Each song accomplishes a very distinct purpose. Jordan will bring the listener back to very happy times, times when we wish we had behaved differently, times we wish we could erase... This violent back and forth gives off the impression that Jordan is toying with our emotions. In all honesty, it's remarkably exhausting, and at the end, we feel at peace. Jordan restores a much needed balance during a time of uncertainty.
We are warning you now, do not be afraid to let the emotions wash over you. Do not be afraid to cry. Do not be afraid to laugh. Do not be afraid to worry. Do not be afraid to experience a whole new echelon of fear. Jordan wants you to give into all these emotions while you navigate his 32-minute present. Watch yourself as you listen. Do you get angry or feel like you're too good for the record's message? They're wonderful coping mechanisms, anger and avoidance, but they'll only leave you worse off, grasping at straws when you realize it might be too late. So do yourself a favor, forgive and dive in.
I challenge you to imagine a scenario as you listen. You're in the orient, floating down a winding river. The only thing keeping you company is your thoughts. As the river twists and turns, you ask yourself where it will take you. You pass around a bend, and the countryside explodes into color. The sun beams down on your face. The vast expanse overwhelms you. Past doubts and worries dissolve. Fear is eliminated. We were made to be afraid, but you are perfectly serene. Prepare for a journey, close your eyes, and press play.
We were made to be this way. We were made to be afraid.

The Black ChordBorn in San Diego but bred in the mists of Avalon, Astra have fast-become a synonym for the ethereal, the sublime, and indeed the genuinely progressive. Ever since 2009's The Weirding put these analog-inflected San Diego visionaries on the map alongside the likes of co-conspirators Earthless, Diagonal and Dungen, who like some lost tribe of prog faithful - have brought this unwieldly and much maligned form of music out of the dark ages and in front of a new generation of mellotron-loving cognoscenti.
Limited gatefold special die cut vinyl edition with attached booklet
Think wailing guitars and dulcet harmonies thickened by Mellotrons and given hypnotic qualities by the kind of drumming that borders on the shamanic. Cinematic in scope but frequently yielding to a kind of melodic fragility that can only be the product of genuine emotion. The Black Chords musical ebb and flow prove Astra to be both a bands band capable fo an artistry all too rare among their generation, and it's a sound to behold.1. Cocoon

Lavender CountryWidely recognized as the first openly gay country music album-and cited as such even by Nashville institutions like the Country Music Hall of Fame and CMT-the landmark self-titled '|973 LP by Lavender Country stands as nothing less than an artifact of courage, a sonic political protest document of enormous power, clarity, and grace. At once a scathing indictment of the injustices perpetrated on the homosexual community, a proud proclamation of gay identity, and a love letter of bracing intimacy and eroticism, the album radically appropriates the signifiers of the conservative country genre, queering its heteronormative vocabulary into a deeply personal language.
Songwriter, singer, and guitarist Patrick Haggerty, a fearless first-generation gay liberation activist and artist, seasons his songs with Yippie deviousness; in the manner of the Cockettes, the laughs both sharpen and sweeten the impact. To our ears the inimitable aesthetics and glimpses of cockeyed humor recall some ethereal psych-folk nexus of the Flatlanders and the Holy Modal Rounders as much as any standard country and western forebears, rendering the biting poetry in an even more other worldly and timeless light. The record reflects Haggerty's experiences: his upbringing on a tenant dairy farm in rural Washington, on the Canadian border; his dismissal from the Peace Corps on the spurious grounds of his sexuality; and his righteous struggles as an outraged young gay man navigating the Pacific Northwest in the immediate aftermath of Stonewall. He designed Lavender Country as a vehicle for what he deems The Information : valid cultural communications intended to resonate with those unable to access similar resources. (Playing Cryin' These Cocksucking Tears, one of the indisputably great country song titles ever, cost a brave Seattle DJ her FCC license.) Pure Vida ConspiracyPura Vida Conspiracy is the sixth full-length album from internationally renowned gypsy punk rock group Gogol Bordello, released via ATO Records/Casa Gogol Records. Produced by Andrew Sheps, the new album was recorded in El Paso, Texas at Sonic Ranch Studios and is a powerful collection of 12 surging new songs.
The album's title is derived from a Spanish slang phrase for pure life, which is a theme that resonates throughout the new material. The disc's opener, We Rise Again, introduces the album's limitless, all-embracing themes instantly, centered on a chorus of Borders are scars on face of the planet. The new songs are infused with ideas rooted in Eastern philosophy but also search for a means of joining fragmented parts and persons, and of creating a worldwide consciousness.
For me music is a way to explore human potential, Hutz says. And that's my main interest in life - human potential. Everyone knows there's something inside of us that we're not using. How do we get it? How do we reach it? Every single person knows that there's something and nobody knows what it is. So at one point I said to myself, I'm gonna get down and get it.1. We Rise Again

Logan (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)Lakeshore Records will release the LOGAN- Original Motion Picture Soundtrack. The album contains original music by Marco Beltrami (BEN-HUR, THE HURT LOCKER) who previously scored two films for director James Mangold, 3:10 TO YUMA, for which Beltrami earned an Academy Award® nomination, and THE WOLVERINE.
When I first watched LOGAN I was really impressed with its originality, Beltrami stated. Although it's a Marvel superhero movie, it is also many other movies as well, all tied up into a delicate balance of brazenness and subtlety. Jim is a master at moving fluently between genres and subverting them to present a new emotional landscape, and it was in trying to define this landscape in musical terms that I found my puzzle.
In the near future, a weary Logan (Hugh Jackman) cares for an ailing Professor X in a hide out on the Mexican border. But Logan's attempts to hide from the world and his legacy are up-ended when a young mutant arrives, being pursued by dark forces.
LOGAN was an extremely demanding but very inspiring film score to work on. Jim distilled the innovation of an indie within the framework of a tentpole, Beltrami explained. He played me scores he liked and which inspired the tone of the film for him-Taxi Driver, Paper Moon (the film itself), The Gauntlet. He liked the directness and rough edges, the unpolished tone, the energy. Somehow I had to capture this while simultaneously creating a modern score. It did not need grandiose thematic music and verbose melodic statements. It was all about vibe.1. Main Titles

Saturday Night Part 2Depending on whom you ask, Jack 'Oblivian' Yarber is either a rock legend or an absolute unknown. This dichotomy is well-understood by Memphis musicians, as underground fame for all its rewards, has, with a few exceptions, been the ceiling for local acts for decades. And no one knows this dichotomy better than Yarber, who may be Memphis' most influential active rock musician.
The list of noteworthy bands Yarber has been a member of over the years is massive and includes Johnny Vomit & the Dry Heaves, new wavers the End, '68 Comeback, Knaughty Knights, and Tav Falco's Panther Burns. Two of Yarber's former bands, the Compulsiver Gamblers and the Oblivians, have seen their reputation and following swell in the decade since their demise, especially the Oblivians, whose international fan base borders on rabid.
In the years since, Yarber has toured and released a string of successful solo albums under the Jack O & the Tennessee Tearjerkers moniker. Originally conceived in 2000 as a partnership with former Impala and current Bo-Keys bassist Scott Bomar, the band quickly morphed into Yarber's solo incarnation after Bomar became too occupied with film scoring and production work. The band has had a revolving door for side players ever since, at different times including current River City Tanlines John Bonds and Terrance Bishop, Neighborhood Texture Jam guitarist John Whittemore, the Reigning Sound's Greg Roberson, Bluff City Backslider Adam Woodard, and a host of other recognizable local musicians.

Dallas Buyers Club follows the Oscar winning performance by Matthew McConaughey portraying the '80s real life character Ron Woodroof, who's suddenly being diagnosed as H.I.V.- positive and given 30 days to live. Yet he will not, and does not, accept a death sentence. A crash course of research reveals
a lack of approved treatments and medications in the U.S., so Ron crosses the border into Mexico. There, he learns about alternative treatments and begins smuggling them into the U.S.
An outsider to the gay community, Ron finds an unlikely ally
in fellow AIDS patient and transsexual Rayon (another Oscar Winning performance by Jared Leto). They establish a "buyers club," where H.I.V.-positive people pay monthly dues for access to the newly acquired supplies. With a growing community
of friends and clients, Ron fights for dignity, education, and acceptance. In the years following his diagnosis, the embattled Lone Star loner lives life to the fullest like never before.

Geocidaltetema is a new duo project from Mike Patton (FNM, Bungle, Fantomas, principle Zorn interpreter) and Australian composer/pianist Anthony Pateras (Thymolphthalein, Pivixki, Pateras/Baxter/Brown, Beta Erko). geocidal is audio caffiene injected direct into your eyeballs. Recorded across half the
continents on the planet, this record investigates the murder of place. Do borders even matter any more? Should we even leave the house? Is there any specificity left in this generalised cesspool of culture? Or has the tidal wave of digitally-fuelled apathy swamped any sense of tangible individuality? tetema
demand another universe to this one, and have built one especially for you.
Boasting a 12-piece all-star cast of incredible musicians and featuring special guest drummer Will Guthrie (absolutely slaying), tetema hand picked a devastating team of instrumental virtuosi to assist their quest to make indispensable music in the age of permanent refuse. As a result, geocidal brings the
most glorious noise, interrogating the deepest cosmogonies and malformations of man. It's true! Antique synths? Check. Outlandish orchestration? Definitely. Face-frying vocals wrapped in velvet? You know it.
If we could name some references for you to file this under, we would, but some application is eventually going to tell you what it sounds like anyways, so we won't. To us, it sounds like two maniacs in their respective studios having the time of their lives, rebirthing some of the most insane songcraft this side
of the godforsaken Miley-Cyrus worshipping millennium. So stop like-ing cat jpegs, stop drooling into your phone and listen to this freaking record - it will literally re-wire your existing perception of sonic possibility, although that's probably underselling it. Edge Of The SunCalexico is no stranger to negotiating borders. For
the better part of two decades, eight albums, and
countless trips around the globe, Joey Burns and
John Convertino have crossed musical barriers with
their band, embracing a multitude of diverse styles.
For Edge of the Sun, the band's keyboardist, Sergio
Mendoza, stepped up to co-write and arrange certain
songs, ultimately co-producing the album along
with Burns, Convertino, and longtime associate
Craig Schumacher: It was Mendoza who suggested
that Calexico physically cross an actual border for a
songwriting retreat to the historic Mexico City borough
In view of the fresh creative perspective provided
by the band's journey to New Orleans to make its
previous album, Algiers, Edge of the Sun's Mexican origins would seem destined to have a major impact
on the album. The writing here shows Burns and
Convertino's ongoing pursuit of the profound melody,
creating music at once hauntingly accessible
and rich in instrumental texture. With guests including
Sam Beam of Iron and Wine, Ben Bridwell from
Band of Horses, Nick Urata from Devotchka, Carla
Morrison, Gaby Moreno, Amparo Sanchez, multi-instrumentalists
from the Greek band Takim, as well
as Neko Case, Edge of the Sun weaves a dense tapestry
from its international roster. "Madrid, Nashville,
Tucson, El Paso, Berlin; it's an eclectic mix,"
says Burns. "This album is about pushing through
the blue to brighter days. Calexico has always had
that element of hope, going back and forth between
a positive outlook and embracing desperate or dark
themes that I think we all share."1. Falling From The Sky

Yonkers NYIf a songwriter of some accomplishment who is also a singer predominantly known for his work in country music was looking for a subject for a deeply personal cycle of songs, it's pretty unlikely that Yonkers, New York, a small city bordering on New York City's borough of the Bronx, would be the subject.
Not, of course, unless the writer is Chip Taylor, who grew up there. With Yonkers, NY, Taylor, a veteran songwriter whose songs have been recorded by Johnny Cash, Peggy Lee, Dusty Springfield, Aretha Franklin, Frank Sinatra, the Hollies and, of course, the Troggs (who waxed his first big hit, Wild Thing), has gone back to his childhood and adolescence and come up with eleven songs filled with warmth and humor, enlivened with spoken reminiscences and packaged with a book of lyrics and vintage photos of the people and places that are their subjects. The songs on Yonkers, NY take us into Taylor's family life and into his discovery of music, horses and girls, opening these subjects up with a skill only a master songwriter can summon.

CICI is the first full length album from Diamond Version. A duo
made up of Olaf Bender and Carsten Nicolai, the founders

the soundtrack to our Ballardian nightmare of a world ruled by
CI follows up five EPs released by Diamond Version from 2012-2013. Each EP had its own identity and character and explored the
dichotomy of underground culture and high level art. These borders
continue to blur on CI as the band pushes themselves to create
outside of their comfort zone. Diamond Version describe this
album as much more song oriented and lyrical than their previous
releases. They even sought out unusual vocal collaborators saying,

KarjajuntOn 24 February 1999, three men held a meeting at the borders of the PÄÄskÜla bog in Estonia, in the singer and guitar player Markus's basement, one of
whom could play a little bit of guitar, another who knew how to play a little bit of drums, and a third who had come up with a sufficiently ancient-sounding
name that would be just right for a heavy metal band - 'Metsatöll' (the name Metsatöll is an ancient Estonian euphemism for wolf). Jump 14 years, over
500 performances and 70,000 sold records later and we get to 2013 - the year KARJAJUHT was brought to life in the studio.
2013 took off to a flying start - Metsatöll gave two gigs for the soldiers of Estonia, USA, UK and Denmark in Afghanistan, at the Helman province.
Followed by a trip to Southern Asia, the band went on a European tour with Korpiklaani (FIN) - 40 shows were given in 15 countries. And from June to
October, the band recorded its new album KARJAJUHT at Roundsound studio, performed at festivals and in November set out on a 32 show tour in North
America with Finntroll (FIN) and Blackguard (CAN). Altogether, the band played 107 concerts in 2013.

Live 1966Besides releasing two classic longplayers and many more singles (including the smash, "Gloria"), touring/behaving badly all across America and appearing on TV shows like 'Upbeat' and 'Where The Action Is', the Shadows of Knight also ruled at suburban Chicago's hands-down hippest teen club, The Cellar. Over the decades, their Cellar performances have become the stuff of legend.
Miraculously, two reels of tape of the Shadows of Knight live on stage at the Cellar (in 1966!) were eventually uncovered by Sundazed. As early as their 'Gloria' album debut in spring '66, the Shadows of Knight had separated themselves from the garage band pack with a heavily Chicago Blues-based, wildly rocking repertoire. Their trademark sound is on full display in this attitude-drenched, anarchic live recording from late in that exalted year.
For this expanded edition, the original sets and correct song sequence have been faithfully restored. And to top that, additional and until now completely unheard bonus material is rescued from those old reels. Specifically, added to an already scorching set are previously-unheard takes of "Peepin' and Hidin'" (sung by blues legend Joe Kelley), "Willie Jean" (with a vocal from drummer Tom Schiffour) and "Any Way That You Want Me". Equally important, the packaging now equals the musical contents thanks to an all-new, eye grabbing sleeve highlighted by John Hora's amazing original photography from '66.
Unlike their comparatively harnessed studio recordings, the Shadows of Knight are presented here raw 'n' alive, sloppy bordering on brilliant and with all the subtlety of a bulldozer. Would you want 'em any other way?1. Everybody Needs Somebody to Love

VesselThe first track of Vessels, "Fear the Followers", comes in with tight frantic riffing coupled by a stark immediate thrash part. The song, bordering on hardcore underneath, is screamed in two separate distinct voices; one being a screechier version of the lower growls. A strict delivery of sharp metalcore is prevalent. But then the middle dips into some Sabbath swings before further slowing with cymbals crashing and synths.
Track two, "Buried in the City", however exploits the notion of the riff and just goes full throttle doom metal. The tidal journey is engrossing, barbaric! Without rehashing any hacked riff, Cokegoat comes in with snarling bit of doom metal. It carries significant weight as a tribute to classic sounds while approaching them differently. The layered vocal and galloping metal guitars spark the energy of the finish.
"Dogs" contrasts that with a cosmic synth aura and a taut minimalist riff approach for a tense 3 minutes. Then the explosion of a sinister 1970's free-wheeling riff takes center stage. All of which are to be manipulated into an Unsane, Faith No More ("Malpractice, "Caffeine") ugly place. Eventually, among static shorelines, we get a dreamy recoil into a bluesy meandering.
Cokegoat begs you to pinpoint them, not by album but by the minute.
There are continuous bounces from Strife type hardcore intros (I swear) to scathing black metal nods. Usually bands that boast that spectrum of influence are raw and crusty and loose in the production. This is tight as sutures. Andy Nelson of Weekend Nachos engineered this and Carl Saff (Unsane, Red Fang, Earthless) mastered the final sound for this. Not surprising. Heavy is a key factor in Vessels.
Vessels is one hell of a debut. This bitch has balls. But quickly flashes some groove. "The End of Your Life Pt 2" is controlled chaos. It also is one of two 2-part songs. Yeah. This is foresight, ambition, ardor and grit in this album. Here we have "three guitarists, three voices, synths, bass and drums," kept on a production leash that adds an urgency to the manic time changes. Which crush. The atmospheric layers are just touches. They add mood but never take center stage. This is about riffs, but Cokegoat know where to accent their talents as well.

Old BoysBishop Morocco is the musical vision of James Sayce and Jake Fairly. The Toronto-based duo recorded its 2008 self-titled debut at a homemade studio inside their shared in Groningen, Netherlands, earning international attention from the likes of Parisian tastemaker Collette and helping develop a strong following at home in Canada. That followed six years of Fairly (aka Fairmont) living in Berlin turning out techno hits on labels like Border Community and Kompakt and Sayce playing in bands like Tangiers and the Deadly Snakes.
Two years later, Bishop Morocco arrives on Arts & Crafts with Old Boys, a six-track EP on which the band strays from its original new wave influences towards a thicker, more contemplative sound, aided by the addition of Ian Worang on guitar and Jon McCann on drums. A savvy delivery loaded with smart electronic instrumentation and richly textured melodies, Old Boys was recorded at another homemade studio, this time inside Fairly's mom's guest bedroom in West Toronto.
It's at once proof of Bishop Morocco's collective progression as it is an expression of constant shifts in hometown imagery and the ongoing personal evolution of its principal members. The release marks Bishop Morocco's arrival as a fully realized project, relying less on paths forged by members favorite bands, and instead endeavoring to blaze a stark trail all its own.1. Bleeds

landmark (Awaiting Repress)"There's a moment in growing up when it becomes clear that the road you walk is your own to cultivate."
A surprisingly profound sentiment for a band of 21-year olds. Nevertheless, it's a sentiment that animates much of landmark, the debut album from Minneapolis' Hippo Campus.
From the resplendent "Way It Goes," a guitar led gallop about the Instagram-filtered church of cool, to the propulsive "Boyish," a horn-kissed rumination on children of divorce, landmark is shot through with a woozy dissonance between precocious wisdom and old-as-time coming of age stories. The result is a messy, brave, and earnest whole - not to mention, a tectonic shift forward for a young band still discovering itself.
Of course, that should come as no surprise. Hippo Campus - comprised of vocalist/guitarist Jake Luppen, guitarist/vocalist Nathan Stocker, bassist Zach Sutton, and drummer Whistler Allen - have done their fair share of growing up since forming in late 2013. Their pair of 2015 EPs, Bashful Creatures and South, catapulted a freshly-formed band onto sold out tours, radio airwaves, late night TV stages, timelines, feeds, and glowing screens the world over. After a 10-month stretch of work informed by their surprising ascent, Hippo Campus' first full-length showcases not only their trademark ear for ringing melodies and impeccably constructed pop frameworks, but a desire to dig deeper-both into their talent and in their selves-for inspiration.
landmark's recording, helmed by BJ Burton (Bon Iver, Sylvan Esso, etc.), primarily took place at Sonic Ranch, with finishing touches applied at Pachyderm Studios in the band's native Minnesota. The ranch, a residential studio located on a 2300-acre pecan farm near the border between Texas and Mexico, represented a big shift for four young men from the northern Midwest's cooler climes. "You're just in the middle of the desert, and there are these pecan trees for as far as you can see," says Stocker. "It's pretty surreal-kind of like a dream."
Dreams are where the mind's deepest desires manifest, so it's fitting landmark is rife with up-close lyrics that reflect the struggles of crash-landing into an always-on world. "It's our most honest release yet, but it didn't start that way at all," says Luppen. "There are two halves to the record-the first half represents our first stage of writing, where we're showing off our ironic side and criticizing the culture of social media, and the youth culture that we're a huge part of now. It's a world we've been forced to plug into, whether we want to or not, and we talk about our qualms with that world."
Perhaps nowhere on the album are those qualms more evident than on "Western Kids," one of landmark's most upbeat numbers, but also one of its most contemptuous: "I just love this, I swear I'll go viral, from the burbs to the streets now it's a revival," sings Luppen, tongue firmly planted in cheek. "The spirit is found in the idealistically idle, the age of excess."
Meanwhile, "Sun Veins," the distortion-heavy track that opens the record, is a direct response to the expectations heaped upon the band as they grew: "'Sun Veins' represents an intense period in my life when I wanted to burn everything down, and it represents this moment of absolute clarity," says Luppen. "I'm talking about a person, but at the same time I'm talking about myself and us as a band. Throughout the past year, I thought that I had to be different and that the band had to be different, but it turned out that we had to look more inward and find ourselves again."
Indeed, landmark invites introspection and close listening-even its most upbeat songs are rich with details, like the whistling break that lands in the middle of the galloping "Simple Season" or the spangles of guitar that slice through the clamor of "Tuesday." Elsewhere, the second half of landmark is dominated by a somber stretch that includes the lush "Monsoon," which slowly blooms into a quiet freak-out of reverb and synth, a revelation in the context of the band's catalog. "It was a breakthrough-we could use the studio and make something transcendent," says Luppen.
Transcendence doesn't come easy. It's usually the payoff to a long journey. And while Hippo Campus' journey is still being written, with landmark, the band has never seemed more confident in the road they're walking.1. Sun Veins

Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus (Pure Pleasure)Charles Mingus has a fascinating way of offering music that is grounded in tradition while remaining startlingly original. The freshness of a piece like Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus, has the effect of rendering much of what passes for jazz as tedious. The band is small for Mingus, and includes Eric Dolphy on alto saxophone and bass clarinet, Ted Curson on trumpet, and Dannie Richmond on drums. It would be one of Dolphy and Curson's last recording dates with the artist, and they seem determined to go all out for it. The leader's bass line kicks off Folk Forms No. 1, followed by Dolphy outlining the melody, and then joined by Curson. A simple riff develops into a lively New Orleans funeral march that's developed for 12 minutes. Original Faubus Fables is serious in intent - a political attack on segregation governor Faubus - but Mingus and Richmond's singing is difficult to listen to with a straight face. Still, this doesn't distract from the wonderful music. Again and again, the elasticity of the sound is fascinating, at once spacious with the bass and drums balanced against the brass and then noisy, with the horns wailing and crying. The last two pieces, What Love? and the outrageously titled All the Things You Could Be by Now if Sigmund Freud's Wife Was Your Mother, are much looser, bordering on free jazz. The album accomplishes what the best of Mingus accomplishes: the perfect tension between jazz played as an ensemble and jazz played as totally free.

About Pure Pleasure
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.
