First release for legendary live broadcast of this early Green Day performance - features rare live versions of much of Green Day's pre-Dookie catalogue!

It was during their tour in support of Kerplunk that the band played an in-house set on May 28th at legendary New Jersey station WMFU FM, which was broadcast live. With a song list predominately made up of tracks from their first two albums and early EPs, the performance, featured in full on this LP, offers a perfect retrospective of their early career.

An intimate event without an audience, save for DJs and technicians, the band still play in a typically exhilarating manner for close to 70 minutes, during which, in addition to their own multiple compositions, covers of numbers originally by fellow local bands Operation Ivy and Fifteen are included.

In the near 20 years since this startling performance took place, Green Day have become among the finest Rock bands ever to emerge and now reside in the same league as greats like U2, Queen or Metallica, but listening to this recording now, helps to remember that Green Day have always been great, and its looking unlikely that this status will slip anytime soon.

    Lonely Starts & Broken Hearts

Left Alone is punk rock at its best, deriving influences from groups like Operation Ivy, The Clash, and Swingin' Utters. They've shared the stage with Voodoo Glow Skulls, The Briggs, Duane Peters And The Hunns, Horror Pops, and The Nerve Agents. Until now, they've lived the DIY lifestyle, booking their own shows, making their own merchandise, starting their own label, and releasing their own recordings. On this, their debut Hellcat release, they deliver a tightly sealed package of punk that plans to explode within seconds of hitting the play button.

    ...Honor Is All We Know

Rancid's new record Honor Is All We Know is much like their other records in
the sense that it is filled with the stories and characters that populate the
band's lives, and reflects the cultural and political climate in which it was
written and recorded. It has classic Rancid songcraft: two minute songs packed
with melody, personally empathetic and politically denunciatory. But Honor
Is All We Know is also unique in that it is filled with the growing insight of
a band who has been doing this for a while now: it feels natural and organic,
written without an agenda or a bone to pick, rather the culmination of lives
lived largely with a keen interest in the world and a sense of brotherhood.

In the late 1980's Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman of Rancid were founders of
arguably the most influential band from the Bay Area Operation Ivy. Operation
Ivy has been cited by everyone from Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong to Fat
Mike of NOFX as the group that most affected the sound of their own bands.
Rancid has lead in extensive career since those days back in the East Bay including selling nearly 3 million albums with one Platinum album and one Gold
Record under their belts (And Out Come the Wolves, Let's Go). In the midst of
anniversaries for both albums, Rancid will be playing some high-profile festival shows in 2015, and the moment has never been better for old and new fans to
remind themselves of the cultural force and punk rock power of Rancid.

Spy Rock Road (And Other Stories)

Thirty years ago, long before there was such a thing as Gilman Street, Green Day, or the East Bay pop punk explosion, three guys got together in an off-the-grid hippie wilderness known as Spy Rock, at the heart of Northern California's legendary Emerald Triangle. They hooked their amps up to their solar panels, made up a couple songs about living on the backside of nowhere, and The Lookouts were born. It would be the first time 12-year-old Tre Cool ever laid hands on a drumstick or a set of drums, but over the following five and a half years he honed the skills that he would put to use in his second band, Green Day, headlining amphitheaters and stadiums, winning Grammy Awards, and being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with his second band. Guitarist and singer Larry Livermore would go on to co-found Lookout Records, the indie label that introduced Green Day, and many other bands, to the world. Together with bassist (and future forest ranger) Kain Kong, and with guest appearances by Operation Ivy and Rancid's Tim Armstrong and Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, The Lookouts produced two albums, two EPs, and several compilation tracks, the best of which are featured on this double LP. Also included is a track from The Lookouts' very first demo tape, recorded in 1985, which features Tre singing backups in his as yet unbroken three-and-a-half-octave soprano.

    Duct Tape Soup

Before Green Day, Operation Ivy, and Lookout Records put the East Bay's burgeoning punk scene on the map, a trio of Berkeley kids were reinventing the genre with music that was melodic but full of feedback, and a singer who sounded like he gargled glass. Crimpshrine's debut EP was Lookout's fourth release, followed by an album, a second EP, and a slew of split singles and compilation tracks before the band imploded in 1989 after a ridiculous two-and-a-half-month tour in a Ford Pinto hatchback.

Formed around teenage binary stars Jeff Ott and Aaron Cometbus, Crimpshrine went through a series of lineups in their four-year run, utilizing future Tilt and Go Sailor bassists Pete Rypins and Paul Curran, and briefly including second guitarist Idon Bryant. Not overtly political, their fiery brand of introspective punk touched on homelessness, teenage pregnancy, drug use, friendship, isolation, and a grimy sort of romance.

Two collections have emerged posthumously: 1992's Duct Tape Soup and 1998's The Sound Of A New World Being Born, both falling out of print in 2002.

Ott went on to form Fifteen and author two books; Cometbus founded Pinhead Gunpowder with Billie Joe Armstrong and continues to edit his long-running fanzine.

    In A Warzone

Transplants are back with a ferocious new album, In a Warzone, the first
for the legendary punk collective in overseven years. Tim Armstrong
(Operation Ivy, Rancid), Travis Barker(Blink 182) and notorious front
man "Skinhead Rob" Aston kick off the record with a title track that sets
the tone for the mayhem to follow:fourtothefloor punk rock featuring
raging vocals from Aston, guitar and singalong choruses from Armstrong,
and a supercharged hardcore beat from Barker. "When we started this
band 13 years ago, we weren't worried about who was going to like us,"
states frontman Aston. "We still aren't. In a Warzone is more raw and
stripped down than our previous releases. It's our best album. It's always
been difficult to classify Transplants. But at the end of the day, we're a
punk rock band. We make what ever type of music we want." With US
touring planned through summer and into fall, Transplants are ready to
scratch the itch of longtime fans, while introducing a new generation to
    the fury of true punk.

    Trouble Maker

Rancid as a band has always been imbued with a sense of place: the blue collar neighborhoods where they grew up in Berkley, California, their place as individuals within their band, their band as part of a movement and their evolving sense of place in relation to the world at large. This year Tim Armstrong (vocals, guitar), Matt Freeman (bass, vocals), Lars Frederiksen (vocals, guitar), and Branden Steineckert (drums) return with their ninth studio album Trouble Maker.

Born in the midst of the post-Reagan economic downturn in the San Francisco Bay Area, the East Bay region specifically, Rancid came to light as Armstrong and Freeman were moving forward after the first band they founded, Operation Ivy, reached a friendly demise. As Rancid, the band took up the torch of social commentary and the examination of the local scene and instantly inflamed the newly revived punk community, setting the stage for what was to come. After having seen the American dream dwindle and fade within their country, community, and homes, Rancid put their description of its aftermath into their songs. Each album served as a layer cementing Rancid's natural place in punk. Their lyrical themes established their identity in the punk rock world while musically they incorporated horns, rockabilly bass lines, reggae rhythms, rasp, and distortion. Balancing their personal tales of love, loss, and heartbreak with attitude, Rancid gave their listeners a community.

Over the past 2 decades, Rancid has shown awareness of their changing environment and have established their place in it, all while never losing sight of themselves as individuals or as a band.

The Thing That Ate Larry Livermore (Out Of Stock)

Larry Livermore was the man behind Lookout Records, the indie label that introduced the world to bands like Green Day, Operation Ivy, Rancid, Screeching Weasel, the Queers, and many more. Recently he was coaxed out of retirement by Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, who asked him to put together a compilation of his favorite DIY and underground bands playing in North America today. The result: The Thing That Ate Larry Livermore, a 16-band collection that evokes the late '80s/early '90s sound and spirit of Lookout and the East Bay while embodying the heart and soul of 21st century pop punk at its best!
