    Sweet Heart Sweet Light

For an artist as consistent as Spiritualized's Jason Spaceman, whose 7th studio album Sweet Heart Sweet Light will see its release on Fat Possum, it's easy to assume that there's a certain effortlessness to the creative process. In fact, the three years since the release of 2008's acclaimed Songs in A&E were some of the roughest imaginable for Jason.

After a near death from double pneumonia in 2005 it was a slow road to recovery, a process he touched upon on with great grace on the last album. His return to full health saw him release Songs in A&E and mount critically lauded performances of his 1997 game-changer Ladies And Gentlemen....We Are Floating In Space on both sides of the Atlantic.

However, shortly after recording Sweet Heart Sweet Light in far flung locales such as Los Angeles, Reykavik and Wales, Jason found himself weakened by a degenerative liver disease and was subjected to six months of chemo treatment, a procedure that left him virtually housebound while he mixed the album.

In a classic case of triumph over tribulation, the resulting album is Spiritualized at their most vibrant; full voiced and utterly sublime. In Jason Spaceman's orbit rock and roll is the salve and listeners will hear all of the epic grandiosity and brain worming melodies for which they're renowned, as well as the gorgeous gospel delium that makes hearing a new Spiritualized album an exhilarating and emotional experience.

"Hey Jane," an energetic 8+ minutes of rousing organ, glittering guitar fuzz and swirling choirs, is first the single and indication that new album Sweet Heart Sweet Light is another epic body of work from the anthemic master. It's been three years in the making for renowned perfectionist Jason Spaceman and the resulting music captured in this first single, showcases them at their most vibrant and sublime.

The album also features a first for Spiritualized: Jason is joined by his 11 year old daughter Poppy Spaceman on the starkly beautiful So Long You Pretty Thing for which she also has a writing credit for the opening couplet. Elsewhere on the album is I Am What I Am which was co-written by Jason and Mac Rebennack aka Dr. John.

    Blues In Orbit

    Import

Duke Ellington is seen by many as one of the frontrunners of Jazz and as one of the greatest composers of the 20th century. He was a part of the Harlem Renaissance and many feel that because of him, Jazz gained recognition as a art form.

Many of his instrumental songs have become Jazz standards, and his distinctive style remains a shining beacon in music. Thanks to a stellar performance at the Newport Jazz Festival in 1957 there was a renewed interest in his music and his orchestra, and they performed all over the world.

Blues In Orbit was mostly recorded during one after-midnight session after they had returned from a run of shows in Europe. It presents a Big Band in full swing; there is true synergy at work here that could only come from a group of musicians that expect - and get - the best from each other. Free flowing improvisations and straightforward arrangements show a band that is kicking back, relaxing, and doing it nice 'n' easy.

    Blues In Orbit

Remastered By Bernie Grundman From The Original Analog Tapes

Gatefold Old-school Tip-On On Jacket By Stoughton Printing

Plated And Pressed At Quality Record Pressings

It's tempting for Blues in Orbit to be overlooked when Duke Ellington's best albums are discussed, but truly it's an undisputed gem. There are 14 tracks, none of them is longer than 4:50 and it is all good stuff. There are some familiar favorites such as In a Mellotone and C Jam Blues as well as less often heard gems like Blues in Blueprint and Sweet and Pungent. It is also in stereo, and the arrangements are superb.

The featured performers include Ellington stalwarts Johnnie Hodges, Ray Nance, Harry Carney and Jimmy Hamilton, as well as the less familiar Booty Wood and Matthew Gee. Johnnie, in particular is well showcased here, taking the lead not only in slow pieces like Brown Penny and Sentimental Lady, but also in the rousing, Smada.

The full Analogue Productions reissue treatment is at work on this smashing LP - famed mastering engineer Bernie Grundman handled the remastering from the original analog tapes. The lacquers were plated and pressed at Quality Record Pressings, maker of the world's finest-sounding LPs. Lastly we've stashed each super-silent 200-gram disc in a premium Stoughton Printing gatefold jacket.

All of the takes were recorded during after midnight sessions recorded over two nights starting on December 2, 1959 in New York at Columbia Record's studio on East 30th Street. Each night Duke's late dinner arrived at 2 a.m. - a sizzling steak, a pot of coffee with lemons in it, portions of American cheese, and grapefruits. After dinner, and a breather for the band, the sessions finished around dawn in a swinging fashion.

If you're just getting into jazz, this album is highly recommended as a great way to initiate your collection. The sound is incredible, with packaging to match. Another audiophile home run.

In The Orbit Of Ra (Awaiting Repress)

Sun Ra is one of the most respected, and perhaps most misunderstood creative minds in jazz music. To commemorate what would have been Ra's 100th birthday, we've teamed up with Art Yard for a very special release. In The Orbit Of Ra is a new collection presented by the longest serving member of the Arkestra and current bandleader, Marshall Allen. Bringing together Sun Ra highights from over 25 years of music, the album is the first internationally released compilation to provide an introduction to the music of Sun Ra, all mastered from the original tapes.

Hear the pristine masters for one of our favorite Sun Ra tracks, "Plutonian Nights," below, and an instant download of the track is available with pre-orders of the full album. Physical formats feature full interview with Marshall Allen along with rare and previously unpublished photos by Val Wilmer.

    Parallel Suns

With "Parallel Suns", Lubelski has flown to a higher orbit with her merger of the fuels of folk, psychedelia, and pop. They combine into a potent mixture that gives her compositions a vibrancy that shimmers in the reflection of their power. The music streams down and ends up in your ear through dappled arrangements that are warm and bright while still having them shaded with darkness from both the lyrics and sound. Mysterious Traveller (Speakers Corner) (Awaiting Repress)

In Weather Report's fourth album the mysterious multi-instrumentalist Joe Zawinul travels once again through his virtually endless sound universe. And once again the question arises as to whether he will manage to leave his genetic fingerprint - without resorting to routine - on all the newly created sounds. The magic word here is naturalness, which makes its way safely and surely through the electronic backdrop.

Nubian Sundance, performed with two drummers and a percussionist, twists and turns in an apparently disoriented, meditative fashion through a mix of sizzling sound and colours, leading up to the final live applause that brings this dance to a close and making it a real experience for all. Following the translucent, will-o'-the-wisp-like American Tango is Cucumber Slumber with its compact funky sound created by a cool mix of saxophone and the sucking sound of a synthesizer. The two protagonists Zawinul and Shorter seem to be on a par with one another in the dazzling title piece where the lyrical saxophone part is supported by thunderous piano chords. Warm, dreamy harmonies are heard for a short while, only to be hacked apart in Blackthorn Rose - this is no orbital music floating around in your head but sheer tension, which makes you clutch your seat until landing. Back on earth the mysterious traveller was received with open arms with the readers of Down Beat magazine voting the LP 'Album of the Year 1974'.

    Musicians:

    • Joe Zawinul (keyboards, percussion, vocals, guitar)

    • Wayne Shorter (saxophone, piano)

    • Miroslav Vitous, Alphonso Johnson (bass)

    • Ray Barretto, Dom Um Romão (percussion)

    • Skip Hadden, Ishmael Wilburn (drums)

Recording: 1974 at Devonshire Sound, North Hollywood, USA, by Ron Malo

Production: Josef Zawinul and Wayne Shorter

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Sugaring Season

Beth Orton's Anti debut captures the classic hypnotic sound that won her prominence, at the same time as it shows a singer at the full maturity of her instrument, with a new soulfulness that can recall Roberta Flack or Nina Simone one moment, June Christy at the next. Sugaring Season is in many ways a culmination of Orton's art of contradictions, a full circle from that first John Martyn cover she recorded with William Orbit back in the day ? soulful and ambient, lush and bittersweet, starkly still and fiercely rhythmic.

    First Contact

    Limited Edition Of 1,000 Copies

Contact is the new duo of A.E. Paterra (aka Majeure) of
famed sci-fi synth-rock group Zombi, and acclaimed
British film composer, Paul Lawler. Exploring a similar
orbit as Majeure and Zombi, multi-instrumentalist Lawler
infuses heavy doses of melody and drama to give First
Contact a sound and feel that blends late 70s Pink Floyd
sprawl, the nostalgic wonder of early 80s science
    documentaries, and John Carpenter's 80s sci-fi action
films. Equal parts fascinating and euphoric, Contact is
two masters of their respective crafts finding common

    Forever (Box Set)

Limited Edition 4 LP Box Set

Includes Additional Bonus 12" Single Of William Orbit Mix Of "Let Me In Your Heart Again"

Having in the three months since its original release already provided Queen with their twenty fifth top ten album and twenty sixth UK gold album, Queen's current best selling compilation package Queen Forever is to receive a special limited edition vinyl release coming this spring.

The original 36 track 2 CD Queen Forever release will now be made available as a strictly limited 4 LP vinyl box set which includes an additional 12" single bonus disc exclusive to the set featuring a special William Orbit mix of the only recently heard Freddie Mercury track "Let Me In Your Heart Again".

The Orbit mix was held back from the Forever CD release and only surfaced for a limited period to support the Coca-Cola (RED) AIDS awareness campaign mounted at the tail end of last year.

The B side of the 12" single has a further bonus feature exclusive to this box set - a laser etching of the box set cover illustration.

Distinguishing itself as the first Queen album to feature new Freddie Mercury led tracks since the band's 1995 Made In Heaven album, Queen Forever brings out into the light the long anticipated track from Queen and Michael Jackson, 'There Must Be More to Life Than This', an unfinished Mercury-Queen track 'Let Me In Your Heart Again' originating from the band's The Works album recording sessions (featured on this vinyl package in a newly available William Orbit mix) and a new ballad version of Mercury's first solo hit, his Giorgio Moroder collaboration, 'Love Kills', which is currently being heavily played at UK and European radio.

The rest of the package mixes Queen hits, classic tracks and celebrates the extraordinary musical path of one of the world's greatest rock bands. Reaching back as far as 1974 with fan favourite Nevermore, a Freddie Mercury song originally included on Queen II, Queen Forever progresses to feature songs that spotlight the band's songwriting prowess, studio experimentation and remarkable development, and is completed with latter-day Queen hits, including '91's no. 1 These Are The Days Of Our Lives and '95's Too Much Love Will Kill You, together with the poignant A Winter's Tale, recorded during Freddie Mercury's final Queen recording sessions in Montreux in 1991.

Queen Forever is a thrilling showcase for exclusive new Queen recordings but equally as much a paean to the extraordinary musical achievements of John Deacon, Brian May, Roger Taylor and the late Freddie Mercury, whose singular talent we again get to marvel at through this meticulously presented 36 track collection.

Unbelievable 29th Studio Album from Space Rock Pioneers: Hawkwind!

Straight from the furthest reaches of space and time, comes another dose of the mind altering substance that is HAWKWIND. Back once more to delight and astound us mere mortals with their timeless blend of Hard rock and Psychadelia, blown into orbit on the back of a rocket ship; HAWKWIND once again prove they are the Masters of the Universe.

With exclusive tracks, ranging from the re-imagining of classic hits like Sunship and Seasons to brand new, previously unheard tracks like Lonely Moon this is a tour de force of space rock, unlikely to be matched or surpassed by any young pretenders. As if tirelessly producing such an abundant catalogue wasn't enough of a badge of honour, receiving the Lifetime Achievement award for services to Prog Rock has firmly cemented Dave Brock, and HAWKWIND, as two of Britains greatest musical exports.

    Musik, Die Schwer zu Twerk

Electric Wurms, is a prog-rock side project featuring THE FLAMING LIPS multi-instrumentalist Steven Drozd on vocals, guitars, and keyboards and front man Wayne Coyne on bass and backed by Nashville psychedelic rock band Linear Downfall.

A six-song album on Warner Bros. Records. Musik, Die Shwer Zu Twerk, will transport the listener into a new kind of transcendental orbit than one might expect from THE LIPS alone. Instead, these six velvety compositions appear to be harvested from a higher bardo plane of sound yet maintain a pleasantly familiar rock "experience" associated with The Lipsian oeuvre.

The first single from Musik, Die Shwer Zu Twerk, is a cover of British prog-rock band Yes' "Heart of The Sunrise."

    Fifth Dimension (MONO)

By 1966, the Byrds had powered up like a mammoth Atlas rocket boosting Astronauts into orbit around the Earth, with their third album, Fifth Dimension. This amped-up new soundimmediately dubbed raga-rock due to the Byrds newfound fascination with the music of Ravi Shankar and John Coltraneis best exemplified by Eight Miles High, yet another national pop smash, and 5D (Fifth Dimension), both swirling, multi-hued masses of sonic energy on an interplanetary scale. 5D is tethered to a generation newly interested in LSD mind-trips, while Eight Miles High details the Byrds' first transcontinental flight to the United Kingdom. Folk-rock, always a Byrds staple, appears in the luscious form of Wild Mountain Tyme and John Riley. Hey Joe, soon to become a standard of shaggy-haired garage rock nation, is a standout, while Mr. Spaceman, a brilliant, humorous blend of deep space and country-rock also scaled the national charts.

Unavailable for over 40 years, we're proud to present the first ever reissue of this monumental recording in its original, highly-sought-after mono incarnation, cut directly from the original Columbia Recordings analog mono masters, with perfect artwork restoration and meticulously faithful mastering.

    Souled Out (Awaiting Repress)

JhenÉ Aiko's full-length is a testament to the power of patience. Though she's only 26, the Los Angeles native has been at it for more than a decade - first, inauspiciously, as a satellite artist hovering in the orbit of prefab new-jack teens B2K. When pretending to be Lil' Fizz's cousin didn't bring her R&B domination, she took time off to finish school, start a family, and develop her songwriting chops, which led to increasingly high-profile collaborations with the likes of Drake, Miguel, and Kendrick Lamar.

Much of Souled Out is far more pop-friendly than last year's Sail Out EP (which yielded ''The Worst,'' her first Billboard Hot 100 moment), but Aiko's lush, glowing compositions do take time to reveal themselves. Take ''W.A.Y.S.,'' which opens with a lazily strummed guitar, then welcomes in a distant, ominous drum march. Slowly, everything widens and deepens as Aiko croons like a millennial shaman, ''You have got to lose your mind/Just to find your peace of mind.''

That process repeats itself throughout Souled; the more you give in to tracks like the hypnotic, undulating ''To Love & Die'' and the gently lapping ''Eternal Sunshine,'' the more they take hold. Had Aiko followed the muse she was chasing as a teen, ''The Pressure'' would probably have been turned into a disposable piece of Hot 100 radio bait. Instead, like much of Souled Out, it's an otherworldly neck-snapper - the coolest party soundtrack for a parallel dimension where the future of R&B arrived a long time ago.

    L1 EP

For much of the Brooklyn duo's career, Beacon has worked
with a kind of effervescent, forward-looking R&B that evokes
out-of-body experiences, but with their new L1 EP, the music
is anchored assuredly to your flesh, bone, and physical
senses. The brawny synth timbres which open lead track
Fault Lines and the stomping beats bolstering gauzy
falsettos on confident songs like Minor Structure set the
tone for a new phase in Beacon's evolution, one geared
toward the movements and magnetism of human bodies. As
producer Jacob Gossett puts it, Our records have often been
described as moments after the night has given way, a
'comedown after the club.' Hopefully, this record inspires
people to go back out for one more.

Mixed by Al Carlson-who has worked on Autre Ne Veut's
Anxiety and St. Vincent's Marry Me, among many other
notable records-L1's five tracks focus on themes provided
by a natural phenomenon in gravitational physics known as
Lagrangian points. The title itself refers to the point in space
where a satellite can fall in synchronous orbit with the earth
around the sun, caught between the two gravitational pulls
and never falling out of sync. With a breathy voice that
sounds as vulnerable as it does touchingly sanguine, singer
and producer Thomas Mullarney III translates the idea to
nuanced musings on internal conflict, human relationships,
and questions about desire, guilt, and pleasure. I wanted to
stage intimacy and desire as natural forces," explains
Mullarney, "spinning with reflex and intuition, caught within
    different spheres of influence."

    Venus On Earth (Awaiting Repress)

Three albums in the novelty has worn off, but Dengue Fever has smartly chosen to keep evolving. While that means their unquestionably unique offering no longer startles, it's no less riveting -- Venus on Earth is at once the band's most accessible and most varied release.

A recap: when first heard from in 2003 on their self-titled debut, Dengue Fever was like no other band, a bunch of L.A. hipsters fronted by a Cambodian-born woman, Chhom Nimol, who paid homage to that Asian nation's pre-Pol Pot cheesy psychedelic-cum-lounge-surf-garage pop sound of the '60s/early '70s, music obscure enough that only a tiny handful of Americans could honestly claim to have known the first thing about it -- certainly, the source material spun outside of the orbit of the so-called core world music audience.

By the second album, 2005's Escape from Dragon House, Dengue Fever had tossed in a few more disparate elements, and with Nimol's high-range vocals riding atop this internationalist admixture and a basic alt-rock sensibility as a guiding force (minus the faux alt-rock attitude), Dengue Fever attracted an audience and garnered critical praise. For Venus on Earth, the mainstream beckons, or comes as close to beckoning as it's ever going to for a band as non-mainstream as Dengue Fever.

Nimol's vocals are as beguiling as ever, Ethan Holtzman's Farfisa organ still swirls, Zac Holtzman's guitars still chime and chunk, and Paul Dreux Smith's drums clang happily along. With horns provided by David Ralicke and bass from Senon Gaius Williams, Dengue Fever has softened some of the rougher edges, injected some serious soul, and added more swing to their thing. Oceans of Venus could be an outtake from the first B-52's album, Clipped Wings a lost Blondie tune, and Woman in the Shoes is just one of the most cuddly pop songs in ages. The groovelicious Nimol-Zac Holtzman duet Tiger Phone Card, a tale of a long distance Phnom Penh-NYC romance, is the pop smash Yoko Ono might have had in an alternate universe.

Drenched in reverb, soaked in sweat, marinated in some phantom historical moment yet tethered to the now, Dengue Fever is more innovative and resourceful than 99-percent of the bands that receive 99 times the publicity.

    Beyond Ugly

Domino is proud to present the third album, Beyond Ugly, from the Bristol, UK duo of Malachai.

Beyond Ugly is the last panel in the band's Ugly triptych and that it was completed at all came as a
shock to all concerned, least of all the group. After the conclusion of the campaign for their sophomore
album, Return To The Ugly Side, members Gee Ealey and Scott Hendy drifted apart with no definitive
plans to take up arms together. It was a chance meeting in Bristol that drew the two back into one
another's orbit and to the realization that there was some unfinished monkey business. The duo reengaged slowly, simply working up a track at a time, more for the cathartic act of creating good music
rather than the artificial construct of "delivering an album." Lo and behold, the creative process built
an inertia of its own and Beyond Ugly began to take shape.

And what a fine shape it is... Beyond Ugly recaptures the sonic stew of debut album, The Ugly Side
Of Love, a potent of brew of post-summer of love and some good ol' Bristol-fashion psychedelic
comedown. However, there's a healthy dose of renewed restlessness and anger emanating from Ealey
that permeates the album thanks to some spirited vocal performances, from the anthemic and vengeful
soliloquy of "Sweet Flower" to the civilly disobedient "I Deserve To No."

Of course, Malachai isn't a one-man show. As Rakim had Eric B... Hendy, the duo's musical director, has
truly outdone his past efforts and provides a sturdy musical platform from which Rev. Ealey delivers his
sermons, whether the occasion calls for an exotic sturm-und-clang ("I Deserve To No") or a genteel softshoe waltz ("Hear It Comes").

Malachai have always enjoyed // suffered the curse of being a "musician's band." Geoff Barrow of
Portishead originally released The Ugly Side Of Love on his Invada imprint before Domino swooped
in and there was no bigger proselytizer of Malachai's prowess than Sergio Pizzorno of Kasabian and
both take their support a step further with guest appearances on "Dragons Ball" and "The Love"
respectively. Additionally, "Segs" Jennings, bassist from punk legends The Ruts joins the fray on
    "Sweet Flower."

The album concludes with a montage of hallucinations from across the band's discography before what
can be best described as the ominous twilight tranquility of "End." Is this really where the Malachai
story ends? As shown by the creative triumph of Beyond Ugly, sometimes it's best not to plan at all and
just let it happen. We'll do our best to let you know when it does.

    These Are The JBs

The Unreleased Album By James Brown's Backing Band: The Bootsy Collins-lead JB's

Never-before-heard James Brown and J.B.'s originals and covers of Jimi Hendrix, Kool & the Gang, the Meters. Contains a 12-page booklet with full annotation, liner notes by Brown historian Alan Leeds and never-before-published photos.

This album is the Rosetta Stone of funk's dominant idioms, yet its existence has barely been a rumor. In 1970 James Brown perfectly captured a definitive moment in modern music when he ordered Bootsy Collins into the studio to record the tracks that would be test pressed on King Records as These Are The J.B.'s. This album is the epitome of funk music, Brown's innovation that influenced everything that came after it, from Afro-beat to disco to hip-hop. And if there is any funk ensemble as influential as Brown's, in the post-"Cold Sweat" musical landscape, it's the Parliament/Funkadelic contingent. Those two streams, as Grammy Winning James Brown historian Alan Leeds details in this album's liner notes, converged for the first time here.

This link between Brown's funk and all that followed features Bootsy and his young band running through twelve-minute instrumental take of Marva Whitney's "It's My Thing," replete with blues chord changes, alongside interpretations of the Meters, Kool and the Gang and none other than Jimi Hendrix. This is a young band's James Brown-turned-on-his-head style of funk that they nail in a one-minute vamp that pre-dates their obscure but important work as the Houseguests ensemble and embodies the essence of the psychedelic-flavored music that would propel them into the orbit of
George Clinton and his mothership, where they poked cosmic holes in funk's polyrhythmic ozone layer in the mid-1970s.

There are only two extant copies of the original King Records test press LP of These Are The J.B.'s. This, the first commercial issue of this album, was overseen by Now-Again's Egon alongside Leeds and Universal Music Group's James Brown expert Harry Weinger. It was mastered specifically for vinyl by Elysian Master's Dave Cooley from the original two-track stereo master that James Brown and his engineer Ron Lenhoff delivered to production forty-four years ago. It comes with a 12-page booklet with liner notes by Leeds and Egon and many unpublished photographs and ephemera.

    Once More Round The Sun

Art is a cyclical beast. The same can easily be said of Grammy Award nominated hard rock juggernaut Mastodon. The group's four members recognize the importance of life's omnipresent cycles on their sixth full-length album, Once More 'Round the Sun. The band orbits around themes of loss and rebirth, twirling a sonic spiral of its signature robust riffing, hypnotically haunting soundscapes, triage of dynamic voices, and thundering seismic grooves.

The very title says something slightly different for each member. Quite literally, Once More 'Round the Sun means a year-in-the-life, explains Dailor. Lyrically, we were discussing things that happened to us recently, whereas in the past we looked further back for inspiration. It's about 365 days in this band. It was a tough and strange journey. We happened to be in the middle of completing a full rotation musically as everything else was going on.
