    Blue Maqams (Awaiting Repress)

Released for his 60th birthday, Blue Maqams offers many reasons to celebrate. It brings the Tunisian oud master
together with three brilliant improvisers: the "Maqams" of the title refers to the Arabic modal music system, rendered
kind of blue by the jazz players. Brahem meets Jack DeJohnette and British pianist Django Bates for the first time
here. All musicians rise superbly to the challenge of Brahem's compositions.

    Silt

Wonderwheel Recordings is proud to present the debut album, Silt, from Sudanese singer Alsarah and her band the Nubatones. Called "The New Star Of Nubian Pop" by The Guardian, the album was produced solely by Alsarah who describes the sound of Silt as "East African Retro Pop". It's music that harkens back to the hazy sounds of 1960s and 70s Nubian music with it's haunting instrumentation, soaring vocal melodies, and pentatonic arrangements.

The album has it's musical roots in the Nubian "Songs of Return" that began to spring up after mass displacement and resettlement of hundreds of thousands in a region of lower Nubia that Went under water after Egypt built Aswan High Dam to Control the flooding of the Nile in 1970. The focus of these songs, both thematically and lyrically is about a return to home and the beauty of home and embodies a certain kind of saudade - a nostalgic longing for a place that no longer exists. The album encompasses Alsarah and her band's musical Curiosities around Concept of migration being all displaced immigrant themselves. Silt is their take on ' L ' the music of this time and place mixed with the fusion goings-on of Khartoum, along with Arabic and North African influences appearing in the mix.

Alsarah, is a Sudanese born singer, songwriter and ethnomusicologist. Born in the capital city of Khartoum, where she spent the first 8 years of her life, she relocated to Taez, Yemen with her family to escape the ever stifling regime in her native country. She abruptly moved to the US in 1994, when a brief civil war broke out in Yemen. Now residing in Brooklyn, NY, she is a self-proclaimed practitioner of East-African retro-pop. Working on various projects, she most recently has been working with The Nile Project and was featured on their debut release, Aswan (named one of the top 5 must hear International albums of 2013 by NPR). She has also collaborated with French producer Dêbruit on the album Aljwal, released this past November via Soundway Records.

The Nubatones started out as dinner conversation between Alsarah and percussionist Rami El Aasser in his living room, digging thru archives of old music from North Africa, and reading about migration patterns in modern day Nubia, Soon the conversation opened into a musical one and spread to include master Oud player and Luthier Haig Manoukian and bass player Mawuena Kodjovi. With a collective love for pentatonic music and a common understanding of what it means to be an immigrant, the group Went on to perform both nationally and internationally at prestigious venues such as The Kennedy Center, The Apollo Music Cafe, Celebrate Brooklyn at Prospect Park, The World Music festival in Chicago, and The Festival du Mon'd Arab in Montreal just to name a few.

Each Gingko Audio product is made to order

The patent-pending Cloud is a simple yet effective vibration control platform. Its elegant design belies its functional effectiveness. It works well because of the correct choice of material coupled with a flexible design that allows the user to
experiment with a wide variety of applications. In the end you the audiophile make the ultimate judgment of how to best meet your needs, functionally and aesthetically.

How vibration negatively affects good sound is a well-known and accepted phenomenon on which we need not elaborate. There are many available products
aiming at reducing vibration affecting audio equipment. Most of them seek to isolate
the equipment from unwanted vibration in the environment, transferred through the surface on which the equipment sits, be it the wooden floor or the metal rack. At the same time, vibration caused by the equipment itself such as the CD transport
mechanism or the turntable platter needs to be dissipated so it does not affect other equipment on the rack.

We find that acrylic does an excellent job in dissipating any vibrating energy it receives because of its complex, dense, and irregular molecular structure. It is not an accident that many audio products use acrylic in their designs, whether an acrylic turntable platter or an acrylic chassis for CD players or transports. In addition to the
acrylic platform, the Cloud ™ also uses rubber balls to further isolate vibration from the environment from the equipment. The rubber balls serve two critical functions.

They provide four degrees of freedom in the movement of the top platform relative
to the bottom base. The top platform sitting on top of the rubber balls can freely
move up and down, front to back, and side to side, and rotationally while minimizing
undulating, repeating motion that continues after the original vibration. They work
as very effective shock absorbers. The rubber balls are also used to balance the uneven load of some equipment such as amplifiers or turntables. By placing the rubber balls in the different positions in the base, the user can level the equipment
and even the load. The standard balls that come with our platform are found to provide the most neutral sound. You may experiment with different kinds of balls to find ones to match your system and to suit your taste in music.

    Barzakh

Available for the first time on 180-gram vinyl, Barzakh (recorded 1990), was the ECM debut of Tunisian oud master
Anouar Brahem - an album that immediately captured the attention of press and public with its gracefulness and
authority. Beyond the improvisatory brilliance, Barzakh gave notice also of Brahem's gift for writing arresting
themes and luminous melody, as illustrated on so many of the pieces here.

    11:11 (Awaiting Repress)

If their self-titled debut was a successful attempt at capturing the unbridled dynamic energy of their incendiary gigs (mostly recorded live in the studio, with very few overdubs); then [11:11] sees them developing their core sound into something more sophisticated, intricate and varied. At the heart of the sound is still the stunning interplay between Rodrigo s dazzling lead work and Gabriela s unique rhythm play; but the base soundscape is now subtly supplemented by percussion, occasional piano and a fresh arsenal of stringed instruments from around the world, including oud and sitar. And - whisper it quietly the introduction here and there of electric guitar.

    Side Trips

Like a mind-boggling combination of Summer of Love acid-rock, good time saloon music and a Middle Eastern jam session, Side Trips, the debut album by Kaleidoscope, stood out, even in the eye of the psychedelic hurricane, as something altogether different! Staffed by a hall of fame roster of multi-instrumentalists -David Lindley, Chris Darrow, Solomon Feldthouse, Chester Crill (aka: Fenrus Epp) and John Vidican-this San Gabriel Valley, Calif.-based combo cut their dazzling 1967 album with a startling arsenal of instruments that included banjo, fiddle, doumbeg, mandolin, viola, saz, bouzoukee, dobro, vina, authoharp, oud and clarinet. When they entertained the wide-eyed customers of San Francisco's Fillmore and Avalon Ballrooms and Los Angeles' Ash Grove, they frequently employed flamenco and belly dancers onstage. Just like the see-through tube with bits of colored glass and mirrors that gave the band their name, the Kaleidoscope was never the same, no matter which way you turned it!

The 5000 Spirits Or Layers Of The Onion

If any musical combo ever meshed perfectly with the times it was the Incredible String Band. And here's the proof: 1967's The 5000 Spirits Or Layers Of The Onion on deep-grooved, 180-gram vinyl. The wildly eclectic Scottish folk outfit -with the airy vocals and fretboard prowess of Robin Williamson and Mike Heron as its two constants -began life resurrecting wondrous and ancient Celtic ballads, then was transformed by the perfumed winds of 1967's psychedelic revolution to add sitar, oud, gimbri and all manner of exotic axes to its arsenal. The result is a gently mesmerizing psychedelia and anti-folk stance-consummate counterpoint to current psych heroes like Mogwai and Beachwood Sparks -that makes perfectly clear why the Incredible String Band remains just that: Incredible!

    A Beacon From Mars

Wielding a battery of exotic instruments that once adorned a thrift-shop front window (bazouki, oud, vina, saz, doumbeg), the Kaleidoscope was every bit as multi-hued and subject-to-change as the telescope full of bright bits of colored glass the band was named after. If there had been a prize for the most eclectic psychedelic outfit, L.A.s Kaleidoscope would have had it stashed on a shelfbetween the hookah pipes and the bowling trophiesin the bands rehearsal space. Formed by multi-instrumentalists David Lindley and Chris Darrow, with a membership that also included multi-instrumentalist Solomon Feldthouse and multi-instrumentalists Max Buda, Chester Crill and Fenrus Epp (all the same person!) along with drummer John Vidican, this wildly experimental outfit pioneered what would become the world-music genre by darting deftly between rock, folk, blues, Cajun, country, Middle Eastern, good-time ballads and Eastern European styles, with plenty of full-blown psychedelia on the side. Its an exotically diverse approach, explored to great effect on 1968s A Beacon from Mars, Kaleidoscopes second LP (the working title for the album was Bacon from Mars). Just float your head through the buoyant, sprawling, mystical title track; the driving, raga-esque Taxim; or the graceful opener, I Found Out, which unfolds like the tender petals of a young rose. Beacon from Mars is an album no fan of 60s West Coast psych can afford to miss!

    Carry Fire

Carry Fire, Robert Plant's eleventh solo album and first full-length release since 2014's acclaimed lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar, was produced by Plant in the west of England and Wales, at Top Cat studio in Box, Wiltshire with additional recordings at Real World and Rockfield studios. As with lullaby, Plant is accompanied by The Sensational Space Shifters: John Baggott on keyboards, moog, loops, percussion, drums, brass arrangement, t'bal, snare drum, slide guitar, piano, electric piano, bendir; Justin Adams on guitar, acoustic guitar, oud, E-bow quartet, percussion, snare drum, tambourine; Dave Smith on bendir, tambourine, djembe, drum kit; and Liam Skin Tyson on dobro, guitar, acoustic guitar, pedal steel, twelve-string.

Plant and the Space Shifters are also joined on Carry Fire by a number of special guests. Chrissie Hynde joins Plant on the duet Bluebirds Over the Mountain (written by rockabilly legend Ersel Hickey and later recorded by both Richie Valens and The Beach Boys). Albanian cellist Redi Hasa performs on three tracks, as does the celebrated Seth Lakeman on viola and fiddle.

Plant and the Space Shifters (which now includes Lakeman) celebrate Carry Fire's release by beginning a world tour in November 2017 starting in UK & Ireland and touring all corners of globe from thereon.

Plant and the band spent two years on the road together supporting lullaby and... The Ceaseless Roar, their unique sound and vision ultimately evolving into something even more creative and powerful.

Plant, who lived in Texas for a time before returning to his native England three years ago, together with his friends, present the songs Carry Fire, melding unusual rhythms with naturalism and smoldering power.

It's about intention, I respect and relish my past works but each time I feel the lure and incentive to create new work. I must mix old with new. Consequently the whole impetus of the band has moved on its axis somewhat, the new sound and different space giving way to exciting and dramatic landscapes of mood, melody and instrumentation.
