    Out of All This Blue

Mike Scott says of the record: Out Of All This Blue is 2/3 love and romance, 1/3 stories and observations. I knew from the beginning I wanted to make a double album, and lucky for me - and I hope the listener - the songs just kept coming, and in pop colours.

    True Blue

With a strong, smooth tone and an amazing flow of fresh ideas every time he soloed, tenor saxophonist Tina Brooks should have been a major jazz artist, but his legacy is confined to a series of dates that he did for Blue Note as a sideman and leader. True Blue is the only album under his own name to come out in his lifetime. He and Freddie Hubbard had recorded Hubbards Open Sesame a week earlier. True Blue also features Hubbard on trumpet along with Duke Jordan on piano, Sam Jones on bass and Art Taylor on drums. Brooks made the best out of this opportunity here as it is a phenomenal set containing five of his originals.

This is the Bay Area band's third album and first for Sub Pop; it's also their most varied and richly textured. On Blue Cathedral, their trademark modern psychedelic sound is enriched by more structured, keyboard-driven jams, churning out Blue Oyster Cult-ish chooglers and slow burners reminiscent of Harvest-era Pink Floyd. Mastered Impeccably by Joe Reagoso and Kevin Gray from the Original RCA Records tapes

    Manufactured at R.T.I

Elvis Aaron Presley was born during the Great Depression into a poor family in Mississippi. They moved to Memphis during the early
fifties, and as a struggling young truck driver, he cut some demos at Sun Studios as a gift for his beloved mother Gladys. These initial songs,
of which he had only paid a few dollars to record, would become the catalyst that would kick-start the beginnings of a soon to be worldwide
superstar unlike the world has ever known.
The folks at RCA Victor knew that this young fellow named Elvis was destined for superstardom. They quickly bought out his contract
and signed the legend to a long-term deal, and his first RCA single Heartbreak Hotel forever etched "The King of Rock and Roll" trademark
    to his name.

Over the next three decades, Elvis Presley would release dozens of hit albums and tons of smash singles, spend time in the Army, star
in over 35 top charting films, as well as sell out concert tours around the states and Canada making him the most successful solo artist of all
time. In 1977, his career ignited even further thanks to his highly successful tour and his much anticipated newly released LP Moody Blue.
Already gaining popularity in advance thanks to two chart single smashes Moody Blue and Way Down, this masterwork album
included a treasure trove of studio and concert performances that captured a very great time in the musical history of this iconic legend.
In addition to the wonderful hit singles aforementioned, The King reaches back to his early Memphis days with a tribute to Johnny Ace
with Pledging My Love and more fifties classics like The Diamonds' Little Darlin' and Jim Reeves' country smash He'll Have To Go.
Even more hits abound with sensational interpretations of Al Hibbler's classic Unchained Melody which also hit the top ten of the
country music charts, a gospel rockin' version of Let Me Be There and a brilliant reading of the Andrew Lloyd Webber/Tim Rice's classic It's
    Easy For You.

Sadly, this was Elvis Presley's final album as he passed away suddenly on August 16, 1977. The world was never the same after the
tragic news was told that day, as hoards of fans journeyed to his beloved Graceland to pay their heartfelt tribute to The King of Rock and Roll.
Elvis Presley's Moody Blue album, of course already a huge seller prior to his death, would go on to become one of his biggest albums
ever, as fans rushed to the stores to buy his final masterwork. Initially pressed on BLUE vinyl, this amazing album has been out of print on
vinyl for several decades that is until now!

    Almost Blue

Costellos Soulful Country & Western Covers Album Tackles Standard Tunes by George Jones, Hank Williams, Gram Parsons, and More

Expertly Played 1981 Set Marks the Second of the Encyclopedic Pop Musicians Many Forays Into Multiple Styles

Half-Speed Mastered from the Original Master Tapes: Knockout Sonics Present Costellos Close-Up Vocals, Steve Nieves Piano, and the Pedal-Steel Guitars in Great Relief

Elvis Costello was so enamored with American country music when he finally discovered it, he was motivated to record Almost Blue. Renowned as one of the most passionate and enthusiastic covers albums ever made, the 12-song set finds the iconic singer/songwriter interpreting standards by the likes of Hank Williams, Gram Parsons, George Jones, Merle Haggard, and other legends. Replete with heartbreak, lonesomeness, boozing, cheating, and dreaming, its laden with country and westerns customary themes and dignified by one of the finest performances of Costello and the Attractions peerless career.

Half-speed mastered from the original master tapes, Mobile Fidelitys numbered limited edition 180g LP opens up the soundstages, clears previously muddled midrange frequencies, and places the imaging of the various country-tuned instruments into clear focus. For the first time, listeners can hear just how much of himself Costello invests in the vocal performances, while the Attractions dont miss a beat, particularly pianist Steve Nieve and guest musician John McFee. Moreover, the strings (when employed) take on new life, and the records cover art, a take-off on Kenny Burrells Midnight Blue, is faithfully reproduced.

At the time of the albums recording in 1981, Costello was admittedly emotionally shattered. The title of the effort isnt merely coincidental. Feeling dejected and disenchanted, the vocalist had been put through the ringer: His pop stardom yielded one incredible record after another, but Costellos marriage was in tatters, his behavior deplorable, and his reputation tarnished by a famous drunken incident that shamed him for decades. In addition, he chose to follow his string of original LPs up with the soul- and R&B-minded Get Happy, a creative masterwork that nonetheless caused some of his mainstream fans to believe hed abandon his hit-making pedigree.

So he did what any self-respecting, astute musician would want to do: Cut a country and western record steeped in heartbreak, fragility, sadness, despair, and beer-glass-raising spirit. Largely informed by the stacks of country LPs he bought in used shops during U.S. tours, and in the ideal frame of mind, Costello sought out not to make standards such as Sweet Dreams, Too Far Gone, Honey Hush, and Tonight the Bottle Let Me Down his own but to put a unique spin on the darkness, surprise, soulfulness, foreboding, and authenticity that they contain within.

With each note, Costello succeeds and exceeds expectations, turning in versions that sound both old and new. Such timelessness, and the confluence of contemporary and traditional, distinguishes Almost Blue from nearly every other country tribute album made by pop/rock artists before and since. Costello and the Attractions embody the deep sentiments attached to these weeping ballads, tear-jerking lullabies, honky-tonk rave-ups, and playful shuffles in an incredibly convincing manner. Producer George Sherrill, famous for working with the likes of Tammy Wynette, George Jones, and Marty Robbins, and brought on board specifically for the project, frames the music with the perfect blend of grit and professionalism.

    Blue And Moody

    Pressed at R.T.I.

An arresting, singular chanteuse, Lula Reed beat out 50 other contestants in an audition for Sonny Thompson's band at the Toledo Auditorium. Following her victory, 22-year old Reed trekked down to Cincinnati with future husband Thompson to record for Sid Nathan's King Records. These sessions yielded two Billboard Top Ten R&B singles, "Let's Call It a Day" (#7) and "I'll Drown in My Tears" (#5). These songs plus ten more smokin' sides are collected on Blue and Moody (1958), Reed's one and only solo album. Long out of print, this LP has become a holy grail for blues and R&B enthusiasts, who routinely pay princely sums for the few copies in circulation. Once again, it's Sundazed to the rescue! Painstakingly mastered from the original analog session tapes and pressed at R.T.I., Sundazed presents this extremely rare LP on pristine 180-gram vinyl.

Listed as one of the four most influential Jazz albums that happened to be released in 1959 (Dave Brubeck - Time Out & Charles Mingus - Ah Um among them), so much has been said and written about Miles Davis' Kind Of Blue, it's virtually impossible to summarize all the necessary info to the length of this page. We could simply list some facts (best sold Jazz album ever worldwide). We could try to explain why it's the best Jazz album ever made, but the music itself will do that to you.

As Bill Evans said in the original liner notes for the record, the band did not play through any of these pieces prior to recording. Miles Davis laid out the themes before the tape rolled and the band improvised. The end results were fragile and wondrous. Recorded during 2 sessions in 1959, Kind of Blue worked on many different levels and will do so for many years to come.

Ranked 30/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

This is a really wonderful album; Joni just laid it all out there for the world to hear. I feel this new version is the true giant killer. Parts were cut, plated and pressed at RTI and the actual 1971 Reprise master tape was used in disk cutting. Most of the songs on this vinyl version were cut without ANY equalization at all so this will be the closest you will ever get to the sound of the true master tape!

First Pressing Of 1,000 Numbered Copies On Blue And White Mixed Vinyl, Black Vinyl Thereafter

Interpretations And Remixes Of Blue Note Classics The Look Of Slim, Distant Land, Stormy, Live Performance Of Peace/dolphin Dance And Many More Tracks

Shades Of Blue is a unique project that turns over the legacy of the esteemed Blue Note jazz label to one of hip-hop's most unique artists, Madlib. He is considered to be one of hip-hop's most inventive visionaries and connects it's productions through smart lyrics and poetics.

The album opens with the declaration that We are now having a little cooking session for Blue Note right here on the scene... Madlib was afforded the opportunity to mine the crates of Blue Note. On Shades of Blue, he delivers remixes and brand spanking new interpretations of Blue Note classics.

Whether funking out Ronnie Foster's original Mystic Brew and transforming it into the Mystic Bounce, or giving Wayne Shorter's Footprints a go with Yesterday's New Quintet, rest assured that Madlib's innovative sonic vocabulary will fill the ears.

Other artists receiving a Madlib reimagination include Donald Byrd, Bobbi Humphrey, Bobby Hutcherson, Horace Silver, The Three Sounds and many more.

Pitchfork album reviewer Scott Hreha rates the album 8.6 Listening to Madlib's music, I'm reminded of the Black radical maestros responsible for some of the outermost-limits music-making of the past half-century: Sun Ra, George Clinton, Lee 'Scratch' Perry.

Have a question about this product? Please email our audio advisor or call 1-877-929-8729 with any questions or concerns regarding your equipment purchase.

The IROX Blue cartridge is hand-made to extremely exacting specifications by the president and chief engineer of the Soundsmith, using carefully selected and precision processed magnetic
materials. The unique design results in a virtually "indestructable cartridge, providing the listener with unparalleled performance through employing a tiny, ultra-low mass high-purity moving iron element. The IROX Blue cartridge differs primarily from other cartridges in that the moving mass has been reduced to an astonishing small level, with the stylus* and cantilever** using the best choices of material, shape and structure to achieve a level of durability heretofore not achievable.
A key optimizing element in The IROX Blue is the use of a singlepiece, ultra low-mass moving iron, stylus and cantilever assembly. In a similar sense to a "moving coil" cartridge, it does not have user replaceable styli, as The IROX Blue is designed for optimal performance. The IROX Blue is a "moving iron" design, and is compatible only with standard "moving magnet" phono inputs. It does not require the use of a special "moving coil" input or moving coil preamp. Your production select cartridge is housed in an handmade composite body to enhance the performance.

The Soundsmith has taken great care to manufacture this cartridge to exacting standards and performance. It should provide you with many years of fine listening from your treasured vinyl collection.

    Here is the micro-manufacturing reality:

Although most entry level cartridges from all manufacturers are machine made, ours are hand made. Even so, the reality is that when you are manufacturing something so tiny, that has to perform so well, all of them are NOT the same. If you don't see this statement from other manufacturers, then this is a secret they don't want to share, and quite understandably so.

    So.....what does Soundsmith do??

We carefully hand build each and every cartridge, test them, and keep accurate records by serial number of their performance. Those that meet or exceed specifications are sold. But, there are always a few that don't measure well. What do we do with them? We don't sell them. We break them down and re-use some parts that can be used again. Does this cost real money ? You bet. But what it does do is this.....the ones that DO pass our stringent testing out-perform many cartridges selling for two, three, four, or even five times the price. Are we unabashedly proud of our hand-made cartridges??

    YES.

Some ask: Moving Iron Cartridges better?? I thought that moving COIL types are the best??

Our cartridges overturn the myth that moving coil cartridges are the only path towards perfection. After all, what is the accepted "advantage" of moving coil cartridges? Low effective moving mass, right? Well, we've got less. Much less. And if you understand EFFECTIVE moving mass, Less IS more. Why is that good? Because when you lower the moving system mass, it's easier to control. If it's easier to control, the stylus can stay in better contact with the groove walls. That's good, because if you can't stay in contact with the groove walls, you can't hear what's on the record.

2010 marks the 25th anniversary of Valley Of Rain, the debut album by Giant Sand, the ever-shifting alternative rock band overseen by the Godfather of Alt-Country Howe Gelb. With that in mind, the band are celebrating in the only way they know how: with a flurry of great music, including the release of this new Giant Sand record Blurry Blue Mountain. This special edition is being released in a limited edition of 500 copies on blue vinyl and 500 copies on picture disc.

On this album, it happened that every session we were able to record came between work loads that rendered us at that point of sleeping and waking. Like the poppy fields in Wizard of Oz, we went in and out of consciousness at various times during recording. This is not a bad thing. Nor does it make the record sound like we're asleep. it has the momentum of that place between sleep and being awake. and in that narrow slip of existence lies a landscape of reason that most of us hurry past in daily lives. This record is planted firmly there between the crystal clear focus of your day to day and the luxury of sweet fuzzy sleep, we welcome you to the blurry blue mountain. - Howe Gelb

    Copper Blue / Beaster

This 2LP vinyl reissue of Sugar's classic albums Copper Blue (1992) and Beaster (1993) from Merge features both albums with a coupon included for full download of the records, B-sides and a complete 1992 live show. Gatefold vinyl with printed Euro sleeves.

Through both his solo work and as a frontman for the legendary HÜsker DÜ, Bob Mould pioneered a signature wall of guitar sound and unmistakable vocal style that has imprinted a defining influence on more than one generation. In the three decades encompassing his career thus far, however, Mould saw his greatest success during his stint as lead singer, guitarist and songwriter for iconic early '90s trio Sugar.

Sugar's 1992 debut album Copper Blue sold over 250,000 units upon its original release and received overwhelming praise. Rolling Stone christened it "thunderous"; Vogue dubbed it "smashing." NME would ultimately name it their 1992 Album of the Year. Currently, Mould has been commemorating Copper Blue's 20th anniversary by playing the record in its entirety with his current band of Jason Narducy (bass) and Jon Wurster (drums).

Recorded and mixed during the same intense sessions that produced Copper Blue, the Beaster EP was originally released in April 1993. Notably darker in tone than the widescreen power-pop of Copper Blue, Beaster nevertheless boasts some of Mould's most powerful songwriting.

"When word went around that Bob Mould had a new band, not only a 'band' band (as opposed to hired band to play his solo albums on tour) but also a trio, of course anyone raised from teenhood on punk rock and HÜsker DÜ in particular (like myself) went into high expectation mode. Copper Blue turned out to be a distillation of Bob's pop mode and roaring guitar mode into one tightly wound explosion of sound. There was space enough for the songs to breathe, but a driving urgency & energy in the rhythm section of Barbe & Travis that gives the whole album a barely-harnessed feel. Sonically, on songs like "The Act We Act" (Copper Blue), "JC Auto" (Beaster) & "Gee Angel" (F.U.E.L.) Sugar took HÜsker DÜ's aesthetic widescreen, the center held steady by Bob's focused songwriting. It's kind of incredible what Sugar did within such a small discography; there's no wasted space and the flow of great songs is a surprising, exciting listen 20 years later."- Mac McCaughan of Superchunk & Merge

Elvis Presley's Historic #1 Chart Topping Masterpiece Blue Hawaii

180 Gram Audiophile Translucent Blue Vinyl And Gatefold Album Cover Presentation

Mastered Impeccably By Joe Reagoso. Pressed at R.T.I

Elvis Aaron Presley was born during the Great Depression into a poor family in Mississippi. As a struggling young truck driver, he cut some demos at Sun Studios as a gift for his beloved mother Gladys. These initial songs, of which he had only paid a few dollars to record, would become the catalyst that would kick-start the beginnings of a soon to be worldwide superstar unlike the world has ever known.

Over the next three decades, Elvis Presley would release dozens of hit albums and tons of smash singles, spend time in the Army, star in over 35 top charting films, as well as sell out concert tours around the states and Canada making him the most successful solo artist of all time.

In 1961, his career ignited even further thanks to his highly successful Blue Hawaii movie and companion multi-million selling soundtrack album. Already gaining popularity in thanks to two chart single smashes Can't Help Falling in Love and Rock-A-Hula Baby , this masterwork soundtrack album also included a treasure trove of Elvis Presley tracks that captured a very great time in the musical history of this iconic legend. As the movie would become a major box office smash, The King kept his audience wanting more as the LP would go on to become the biggest soundtrack album of his career and one of the biggest soundtracks of the sixties. Even more hits abound with the sensational classic Hawaiian Wedding Song , the blues rocker Beach Boy Blues , and the powerful title track Blue Hawaii.

    Sky Blue Sky

2-LP Wilco Set also Comes Complete with the CD of the Album!

It's been a while since the last offering from Jeff Tweedy and Co, but three years of slavering from fans is about to be rewarded with this seventh studio album. Well... Sky Blue Sky was well worth the wait! Though Wilco are known as purveyors of alt country rock, Sky Blue Sky is an astounding demonstration of their ability to move between soulful acoustic folk, jazzy blues, country skank and pumping rock. Tweedy has the vocal range of three people, from country lilt to blues ache to folk sweetness - all this often in the space of one song. And what songs they are. 'You Are My Face' is a classic Wilco segue, as a sleepy 'Beatles-esque' ditty is suddenly interrupted with a jazz guitar explosion twinned with Tweedy's achy blues voice before returning seamlessly to piano tinkle and smooth vocals. There are stories of love lost and found, told with originality, humour and sweetness. 'How can I warn you my tongue turns to dust? Lack of disgust doesn't mean that I don't care. It means I'm partially there,' sings Tweedy on the delicately beautiful 'Please Be Patient With Me'. The instrumentation is a mini-rock opera in itself. Glorious riffs, thumping piano and virtuoso guitar solos from Nels Cline are orchestrated with skill, complementing the intricately composed and woven melodies. Simple and soothing, yet rich and rewarding, this is an album you unknowingly yearn for, like a cool hand on a hot forehead. A great album from a band in their prime. Our highest recommedation!

Wilcos first studio album in three years, Sky Blue Sky, has been perhaps the most ardently awaited release of 07. Eager fans had taken to shouting out pleas for information to bandleader Jeff Tweedy during his recent solo acoustic tour, and the web chatter has been virtually deafening. Critic Katie Toms of Londons The Observer addressed fan speculation in an advance review, declaring, with unalloyed delight: Boy, was it worth the wait.... Simple and soothing, yet rich and rewarding, this is an album you unknowingly yearn for, like a cool hand on a hot forehead. A great album from a band in their prime.

Sky Blue Sky is as eloquently straightforward as Wilcos last studio recording, the Grammy-winning A Ghost Is Born, was daringly experimental. Tweedys lyrics deal forthrightly with romantic separation and reconciliation, their bittersweet quality giving way, as the album progresses, to a more uplifting, redemptive mood. Tweedy quite literally banishes the darkness on the penultimate track, the inspiring, gospel-tinged What Lightthe albums first singleand concludes with a deeply affecting, til-death-do-us-part lullaby, On and On and On.

There are hints of early-seventies Southern California folk-rock sweetness in the harmonies throughout the band-produced Sky Blue Sky, a bluesy Allman Brothers feel to the guitar /keyboard interplay, and plenty of brash guitar solos that take songs like You Are My Face and Shake It Off in thrilling, unexpected directions. This is especially good news for the crowds that will fill the Bonnaroo Festival in Manchester, Tennessee, this June, where the band plays the first U.S. date of its 2007 world tour in support of Sky Blue Sky. Principal songwriter Tweedy cut these tracks in the bands Chicago studio with members John Stirratt (bass, vocals), Glenn Kotche (drums), Mike Jorgensen (keyboards), Nels Cline (guitars) and Pat Sansone (guitars, keyboards, vocals)all of whom are also becoming notable performers in their own right. A Ghost Is Born co-producer Jim ORourke returns as music contributor.

Time and familiarity -- through multiple reissues -- may have muted the seeming significance of some of what's here, but in 1960 Sings Lonely and Blue was not only a breakthrough for Roy Orbison as his debut LP, but also for rock & roll. Up to that point, apart from Elvis Presley -- who was in a class by himself -- few white rock & rollers had even tried to make as bold a use of the LP as what we hear on this record. Orbison, his collaborator Joe Melson, and producer Fred Foster turned the singer's debut long-player into a huge canvas for a sound that combined rock & roll's beat, Nashville's countrypolitan sound, and the singer's unique multi-octave range and operatic intensity into something unique in music.

The single Only the Lonely may have been the most accessible and commercial side of this new sound, but the whole album was packed with great moments and different permutations of that sound: the powerful lead vocal and the Boots Randolph sax break on I'll Say It's My Fault; the haunting Orbison-Melson Come Back to Me (My Love), which was like a mini-movie script, a vest-pocket romantic melodrama sung with operatic depth and played to a light rock & roll beat; Don Gibson's I'd Be a Legend in My Time, and I Can't Stop Loving You, both filled with larger-than-life musical attributes and emotions behind Orbison's extraordinary singing, Orbison treating the former almost like a Verdi aria while a sax solo, the Anita Kerr Singers, and a dense string section hold it in the realm of pop music; and Bye Bye Love given the new Orbison treatment and sounding like a country-pop symphony.

The material was uniformly strong and consistent, probably due, in part, to the fact that Fred Foster was able to draw from nearly a year's worth of recording activity to assemble the contents of the album, and he also took advantage of the album's stereo release to devise a crisp, discreet, two-channel mix that brought out all of the details of this sound in notably sharp relief, creating one of the earliest stereo rock & roll albums that was actually superior to its mono equivalent. Indeed, Sings Lonely and Blue was among the first rock & roll LPs to attract the interest of serious audiophile enthusiasts.

    Blue Bell Knoll

Heavyweight Black Vinyl Cut From HD 96/24 Masters

Blue Bell Knoll is the fifth album by Cocteau
Twins. Originally released in 1988 by 4AD in the UK
and Capitol in the US, Pitchfork listed this album
as one of the best albums of the 80s. This was the
band's first full studio album to be released in
the US via a distribution deal with Capitol. The
album marked a turning point for the band. Robin
Guthrie stated ""At first you're just trying to make
a record, and then you're trying to make a really
good record. And then you're trying to go further.... Blue Bell Knoll was a really important
record to me. It really sticks as one of my favorites. Perhaps not because of how it came out,
although it is quite listenable, but because of the
    experience of making it."

Heaven or Las Vegas followed in 1990, and the release was also via 4AD in the UK and Capitol in the
US. It was the band's last album for 4AD, and was
their most commercially successful possibly due
to Elizabeth Fraser's much more intelligible lyrics. Numerous publications declared it one of the
best albums of the 90s and Pitchfork called it "a
core of ungodly gorgeous songs that is every bit
as moving and relevant today as it ever was".

Both of these albums have been unavailable on
vinyl for some time. Heaven or Las Vegas has never
been commercially available in the US on vinyl,
while Blue Bell Knoll's vinyl via Capitol wasn't
re-pressed after the initial release, and therefore
hasn't been available in at least 25 years.

    Dancing at the Blue Lagoon

On their last album, Bigfoot, Cayucas debuted in a way that defied their namesake, the sleepy seaside town
of Cayucos, CA. They grew from bedroom strumming to a band that toured the world and whose songs
raced across the radio. But as Zach Yudin and his twin brother and bandmate, Ben, went in to create what
would become their new album, what it all came back to was something more personal. While they now call
Los Angeles home, they drew from the nostalgia of their childhood growing up in Davis, CA; the nostalgia
in their music that is as much about a place they've never been (that maybe no one's been to) as any actual
experience. It was a freedom to imagine, to explore ideas. And it was that wandering imagination and
a punchy California dream that eventually grew to become Dancing at the Blue Lagoon.

While their sun-drenched, jangly, sometimes melancholic sound is quintessentially Californian, the album
very much their California. It's the sound of kids from the suburbs who fantasize in Technicolor, whose view
of the Golden State is its own form of idealism. You can hear it loud and clear in the easygoing confidence
throughout on the crisp, backbeat-driven "Hella" or as "Moony Eyed Walrus" takes surf guitar into
fragmented, unpredictable places. The impossibly catchy and heartbreaking "Backstroke" is a Murakamiinspired detective story, neo-noir that is equal parts stylization and gut-level emotion.

That said, Dancing at the Blue Lagoon is all about a band testing its comfort zone and asking us to do the
same. "Big Winter Jacket" is a world away from sun-kissed pop, with acoustic guitars that build
into something grand and expansive. The after-hours piano ballad "Ditches," like much of Dancing at the
Blue Lagoon, takes pop conventions and digs into them. Like the Beach Boys of Sunflower or Surf's Up,
it reminds us that sadness and uncertainty are never far from the surface, even in Cayucas's most carefree
moments. It casts some like the title track "Dancing at the Blue Lagoon"-a lilting tropical fantasia-in
    an entirely different light.

As the primary songwriter, Zach depends on this kind of versatility. "I write on a song-by-song basis," he
says. It's been that way ever since he started taking music more seriously in college. Zach and Ben would
"create bands that were more like a musical idea," record a few songs, and then move on. Cayucas grew out
    of this period of experimentation.

The real core of the record is the almost harrowing "Blue Lagoon (Theme Song)." Accompanied by a lone
guitar, Zach's performance is emotionally raw and technically precise, the kind of statement that
gives Dancing at the Blue Lagoon real substance. Like a great actor whose art rings true because of an honest, human streak, Cayucas has taken sound we thought we knew and turned in into something personal and complex.

    Julia With Blue Jeans On

Since January 2010, Spencer Krug has used Moonface as a venue for home-recorded instrumental and
conceptual experimentation, expanding the ideas he developed collaboratively with Wolf Parade, Sunset
Rubdown, and Frog Eyes. Releases under this moniker have come quickly, each distinct from the other. The
Dreamland EP and Organ Music Not Vibraphone Like I'd Hoped were conceptual excursions merging
instrumental and thematic fixations. After moving from Montreal to Helsinki, Krug teamed up with the
Finnish band Siinai to create a lush rock record-2012's Heartbreaking Bravery-driven by the dark despair
of a breakup. Staying in Helsinki, Krug set off on yet another creative departure, driven by a rediscovery of
love and a reconsideration of the Moonface persona he'd created for himself. The quietly stunning Julia with
Blue Jeans On is the fourth Moonface release, bringing a degree of intimacy and self-reflection unlike
anything Krug has produced to date.

There are only two sonic elements on Julia: Spencer Krug's voice and his piano. Richly recorded, they interact
seamlessly with one another. On the opening track "Barbarian," the piano unfolds with the hypnotic energy
of Keith Jarrett's Koln Concert, Krug's right hand doubling his vocal melody. On the closing track "Your
Chariot Awaits," Krug's voice recedes after a minute as the piano swells for an extended showcase with
modern classical undertones. After nearly a decade, across a number of guises, we are well-acquainted with
Krug's inimitable town-crier vocals; on Julia, we are introduced to a facet of his musical skill that feels
conservatory-trained. This is Krug as singer-songwriter, moving beyond star poses to a vision that is at once
    more elegant and comfortable.

Or, in Krug's own language, on "Barbarian II": "I have chewed through my beautiful narrative." Much of Julia
is taken with this chewing. "Love the House You're In" opens by masquerading as self-pity, with a statement
that reads like a press release from someone who's given up. "I regretfully withdraw my offer to try and
improve myself," Krug gently sings, establishing a self-reflexive foundation upon which he builds the album's
most universal, humanistic sentiment, and which he delivers via its most soaring melody.

Purposeful self-evaluation is one tactic for reinvention, but as Krug illustrates on Julia's title track, everyday
occurrences can prove transformative as well. The sight of a woman, clad in denim, briefly visible at the
bottom of a staircase, he learns, is capable of "obliterating everything I've ever written down." "Julia" is an ode
in the classical sense, pivoting around the beauty inherent in the most simple, taken-for-granted sights. Krug
acknowledges this, opening the song by admitting that "it's a madman's game, making the commonplace
unreal." What he leaves out in this admission, however, is the key to the countless charms of Julia with Blue
Jeans On: by expertly playing this ridiculous game, he can erase the madness that spawned it.

    A Cornerstone Of Recorded Music

So much has been said and written about Miles Davis Kind Of Blue, its virtually impossible to summarize all the necessary info to the length of this note. We could simply list some facts (best sold Jazz album ever worldwide). We could try to explain why its the best jazz album ever made, but the music itself will do that to you. As Bill Evans said in the original liner notes for the record, the band did not play through any of these pieces prior to recording. Miles Davis laid out the themes before the tape rolled and the band improvised.
