HorsesRanked 44/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Before recording the poetic proto-punk 1975 classic Horses, Patti Smith and her band honed the tunes in a triumphant run of shows at New York's iconic venue, CBGB. In the studio, producer John Cale then helped the band to further refine the songs in a process that brilliantly showcases their anarchic spirit and primitive beauty. Smith's background as a rock critic and poet is equally in evidence here as heard on the re-imaginings of such warhorses as Gloria and Land of 1000 Dances, where she boldly adds her own provocative and unflinching lyrics to great effect. Horses' influence on the burgeoning punk-rock movement is undeniable and it remains one of the finest debuts of all-time!1. Gloria

CBGB: Original Motion Picture SoundtrackWATCH OUT! PUNK IS COMING!
By the end of 1973, New York City was bankrupt, Watergate had compromised the credibility of the U.S. government, and the Carpenters were the bestselling
young recording act in America. Rock 'n' roll was dead!
Enter Hilly Kristal, who dreamed of running a country & blues bar in the Bowery. Instead, the club he opened, CBGB (Country, Bluegrass, Blues) became
the birthplace of punk and underground music. CBGB was the modern-day salon for the disenfranchised youth of New York City and Kristal gave these
young local bands a stage. Artists such as the Talking Heads, Blondie, Patti Smith, Ramones, Dead Boys and Television all started at this iconic club.
The story of Hilly Kristal and his legendary club will be coming to theaters this October when CBGB hits the big screen. The film has an all-star ensemble cast headed by Alan Rickman (the Harry Potter series, Die Hard) who plays Kristal. Co-starring with Rickman will be Malin Akerman (The Proposal,Suburgatory), Ryan Hurst (Sons Of Anarchy), Ashley Greene (The Twilight series), Johnny Galecki (The Big Bang Theory), Stana Katic (Castle) and
Rupert Grint (the Harry Potter series).
Omnivore Recordings is proud to present CBGB: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack on CD and naturally, double-LP (with first pressing on translucent
pink vinyl). An essential collection of songs that made the punk movement, CBGB presents twenty slices of original American music, many rarely
compiled or unavailable for years. The soundtrack contains music from influential artists that informed the scene (The Velvet Underground, The Stooges
and MC5), to acts that broke through with huge commercial acclaim (Talking Heads, Blondie and The Police). And there's even music from bands whose
legendary status will forever be linked to the club that gave them a voice (Dead Boys, Television. Wayne County, The Dictators and more).

Liner notes written by Patti Smith
For the length of time that Patti Smith has spent as a recording artist, she has a remarkably small catalogue: only ten albums recorded in over three decades.
Yet small as it may be, she still stands as one of the most influential artists of her time.
Despite the fact that she wears the moniker 'Godmother Of Punk' her oeuvre encompasses many styles and is impossible to fence into one genre.
But perhaps we should interpret this badge of honour as a salute to her attitude rather than as a reference to her musical style.
Outside Society, which will be released on vinyl at the same time as a general CD release, is a good presentation of her work as it chronologically explores the entirety of her career, from her first album Horses (MOVLP018) from 1975 to her last; Twelve from 2007, including hits such as 'Gloria', 'Because The Night', 'Dancing Barefoot' and her own intimate rendition of 'Smells Like Teen Spirit'.
It also gives you a good introduction to the artist as a person, as the liner notes are brief recollections of the recordings written by Smith herself.1. Gloria

Horses (Speakers Corner) (Awaiting Repress)Ranked 44/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
Patti Smith, the first published poet to move her poetry completely into rock 'n' roll and to entice experimental rock fans into the forbidden cinema of her hallucinatory fantasy (New York Times), began her musical career unconventionally. It took off at a poetry reading where she was backed by Lenny Kaye on guitar; later star photographer Robert Mapplethorpe financed her punk-rock cult single Hey Joe. In 1975, encouraged by her success, Patti Smith released Horses, an album in which she fused rock riffs and spoken rhythms to create a punk-trash sound. The rock scene was electrified, raging about the best garage sound of the 70s (Creem Magazine) and conjectured that Smith had drawn up material from Rimbaud, Burroughs, Dylan and Velvet Underground into a hot needle and injected it under the skin (Sounds Magazine). Later productions were dismissed as sentimental and self-loving outpourings, since the rock-poet didn't continue in the same vein as Horses, with its metallic harshness and raw language. That's why this recording remains an impressive unique production by a visionary rock 'n' roll singer.

About Speakers Corner
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.1. Gloria

Wave turned out to be the last album the Patti Smith Group would record, as it was also last album Smith would record before a nine year hiatus.
The Godmother Of Punk decided to focus on her family life and moved to Michigan, but not before leaving us with gems like the sexually mysterious 'Dancing Barefoot' (dedicated to her husband to be Fred 'Sonic' Smith) and her amazing, biting version of 'So You Want To Be (A Rock 'n' Roll Star)'. Produced by Todd Rundgren, this is her most pop-oriented album, and many at the time could not appreciate her more accessible sound. Nevertheless, 'Wave,' her spoken word tribute to Pope John Paul I (who reigned for only 33 days) is as touching and harrowing now as when it came out in 1979.1. Frederick

Outside SocietyPunk rocks poet laureate, Patti Smith ranks among the most influential female rock & rollers of all time. Ambitious, unconventional and challenging, Smiths music was hailed as the most exciting fusion of rock and poetry since Bob Dylans heyday. Smith followed her own muse wherever it took her, from structured rock songs to freeform experimentalism. Her most avant-garde outings drew a sense of improvisation and interplay from free jazz, though they remained firmly rooted in noisy, primitive three chord rock & roll. She obliterated the expectations of what was possible for women in rock, and stretched the boundaries of how artists of any gender could express themselves.
The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame inductees first career-spanning collection, Outside Society, is a new collection of 18 signature songs remastered from all ten of Smiths studio albums. The chronologically arranged tracks move from her 1975 debut album, Horses (Gloria, Free Money), through her last release in 2007, Twelve (Smells Like Teen Spirit). Outside Society features brief recollections of each song, written by Patti, who personally supervised the song choices.1. Gloria

DoolittleRanked 226/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
For the follow up to their classic 1988 debut Surfer Rosa, the Pixies brought in producer Gil Norton (Echo & The Bunnyment, Patty Smith, Foo Fighters) and the results were equally as brilliant if not superior to its predecessor. Doolittle boasted a cleaner sound and received excellent reviews, which led to greater exposure in America. Both a benchmark and a timeless monument, the album brazenly mixes
surf-pop and grunge, with schizophrenic pacing and head banging jolts. Cited as one of the quintessential alternative rock albums of the '80s by Rolling Stone, Doolittle is undoubtedly one of the most epic and influential indie rock albums of all time. ADAD-SAC-2144xSoundwalk Collective and Jesse Paris Smith feat. Patti Smith
Double LP With Gatefold Sleeve And 16-Page Booklet
LP 1 Is Black Vinyl, LP 2 Is White Colored Vinyl
A shimmering ambient tone, an electronic underlay to the lulling chatter of
crickets, makes way for the unmistakable voice of Patti Smith, quietly intoning,
ominously, "The killer road is waiting for you / like a finger, pointing in the night."
Behind the music and concept of Killer Road is international trio Soundwalk
Collective - Stephan Crasneanscki, Simone Merli, and Kamran Sadeghi - who,
alongside Patti Smith's daughter, Jesse Paris, conceived an immersive exploration
of the tragic death of Christa PÄffgen. Better known as Nico, the Velvet
Underground chanteuse and solo pioneer, PÄffgen died while riding her bike on
the island of Ibiza in the summer of 1988. Ironically, she'd recently got her health
back, after fifteen years of heroin addiction. It was Nico's body's reaction to its
new sobriety, and the fact she was cycling at the hottest time of the day, on the
hottest day of the year, that was to prove her undoing.
In the years before she died, Nico had not neglected her creative muse, writing
poetry that would never be published, or heard, until now, in the form of the
opening title track, "Killer Road." The tracks that follow are eight interpretations
of Nico lyrics, predominantly taken from classic albums such as Desertshore and
Drama of Exile, arranged by fellow poet and kindred spirit Patti Smith.
The roots of Killer Road lie in a fortuitous meeting on an airplane bound for New
York. One passenger was Smith; the other was Soundwalk Collective founder
Crasneanscki. Soundwalk had previously been a collaborative series of walking
guides to cities that created an idiosyncratic and evocative understanding for the
listener, before evolving into musical frameworks for field recordings and sight
specific sound installations and performances using a variety of texts and themes.
Killer Road was initially a live audio-visual experience, at the French Institute
Alliance Francaise in New York as part of 2014's Crossing the Line festival. Finally,
we now have the recorded version, a poignant, profound, imaginative exploration
and tribute nearly 30 years after that fateful summer's day.1. Killer Road

...Ya Know? (Awaiting Repress)BMG Rights Management presents Joey Ramone's second solo album, "...Ya Know?", eleven years after his life was cruelly cut short by lymphoma. The tracks were drawn from a cache of demos and unreleased recordings that Joey had cut at various times during the last decade and a half of his life.
His brother, musician Mickey Leigh, executive produced the project. It was of the utmost importance to me that these remaining songs of Joey's be finished properly, and made available for the world to hear, Leigh says of "...Ya Know?", which is comprised primarily of never-before-heard songs written and sung by his brother.
But this is no half-baked grab-bag of odds and ends. Rather, it's a riveting collection of first-rate songs that embody Joey's trademark intensity and wit, and that can stand proudly alongside his most beloved Ramones compositions. It's also a fitting, if belated, follow-up to Joey's first solo album Don't Worry About Me, which was recorded just prior to his death and released the following year.
"...Ya Know?", whose title refers to the phrase that was a ubiquitous staple of Joey's conversation, adds a significant new chapter to the seminal punk icon's hugely influential body of work. Among the many talented people Mickey Leigh and Joey's manager Dave Frey reached out to in bringing "...Ya Know?" to fruition was veteran producer Ed Stasium, who was behind the board for many of the Ramones' greatest albums, including their early classics Leave Home, Rocket to Russia and Road to Ruin.
In addition to producing ten of the album's fifteen tracks, Stasium also contributed instrumentation and vocals to each. The swaggering album-opener Rock 'n' Roll Is the Answer (co-written with Plasmatics guitarist Richie Stotts) will be released as a limited-edition 7" single for Record Store Day on April 21, 2012.
That song and the hometown shout-out New York City demonstrate Joey's knack for channeling his personal passions into bracing anthems. The playfully breezy Make Me Tremble (which Joey wrote and recorded with Dictators founder Andy Shernoff) and the bittersweet acoustic ballad Waiting for That Railroad find him exploring some of the more introspective territory that he'd been unable to visit within the format of his former band.
Elsewhere on "...Ya Know?", I Couldn't Sleep is a collaboration between brothers Joey and Mickey, who also teamed up to record a romantic alternate version of the Ramones' holiday classic Merry Christmas (I Don't Want to Fight Tonight) in Joey's apartment. Meanwhile, a previously unreleased reprise of Joey's late-period Ramones tune Life's A Gas ends the album on an appropriately uplifting note.
Also contributing to "...Ya Know?" is an assortment of musicians and producers whose prior relationships with Joey help to give the album an organic vibe that enhances its power and character. The cast of players includes Joan Jett, and Little Steven Van Zandt, who plays guitar on Party Line and wrote the album's poignant liner notes, along with such notables as former Ramones drummer Richie Ramone, Bun E. Carlos of Cheap Trick, Dennis Diken of the Smithereens, Richie Stotts, Patti Smith Group guitarist Lenny Kaye, punk survivor Holly Beth Vincent, members of the Ramones' punk-era contemporaries The Dictators, and producers Jean Beauvoir and Joe Blaney.
The resulting album is a brilliant encapsulation of the qualities that made Joey Ramone one of rock's most unlikely, yet most beloved, heroes. Leigh reflects "Over the past eight years I've been getting barrages of emails and Facebook messages from Joey's fans, wanting to know when this album would be coming out. So having it finally become a reality gives me a feeling of triumph, not for me, but for my brother, and for his fans. Helen of TroyTo his chagrin, John Cale's record label released his unfinished demo tapes while he was busy producing Patti Smith's groundbreaking Horses. But to his surprise, the resulting album, Helen of Troy, is considered the most stylistically cohesive of the eclectic Island Trilogy, the trio of albums Cale recorded for Island Records during the course of 1974-75. Featuring Brian Eno's lithe synthesizer, Phil Collins' expert drumming, and Cale's manic streetwise songwriting, Helen of Troy delivers more sophistication than most final cuts, and cuts deeper in its roughness.
Back on domestic vinyl for the first time in decades, this RTI-pressed edition of Helen of Troy is cut at Mobile Fidelity by in-house engineer Krieg Wunderlich and features stunning sonics. Quiet surfaces, faithful artwork, and the opportunity to hear Cale's engaging fare unfold amidst wide soundstages and black backgrounds-not to mention the moody content within-make this Wax Cathedral LP a must for music aficionados.
From the celestial opening strains of My Maria, which sounds in places like a hymn, to the teeth-gnashing Sudden Death, Cale shows us heaven, hell, and the life in between. Employing a cocktail of wild experimentation, tonal versatility, and range of emotion, Cale's compositions whip from soaring serenades like I Keep a Close Watch to the unhinged, wild-eyed Leaving It Up to You (pulled from the original release due to its reference to the murder of Sharon Tate) to the soulful, surf-derived China Sea. Eno's synthesizer casts love spells and shadows while Chris Spedding's guitar drills bluesy, ragged holes through every composition. A tormented, sinister cover of the Modern Lovers' Pablo Picasso (Cale produced the Lovers' debut) shows what you get when you replace Jonathan Richman's dreamy smile with Cale's bared teeth.
Although we'll never know what the one-time Velvet Underground cohort had in mind for the finished product, with its labyrinthine arrangements, theatrical spontaneity, and primal rawness, Helen of Troy is a gem that's better unpolished.1. My Maria

Following in the footsteps of long-time touring partners Los Campesinos!, the band chose to work with producer John Goodmanson (Sleater-Kinney, Death Cab For Cutie, Nada Surf) and the result is The Golden Spike. Anna CalviThis is the stunning debut of guitarist and vocalist Anna Calvi. Brian Eno has championed her as the most visionary female artist since Patti Smith, Nick Cave has just taken her and her band on tour in Europe with Grinderman and Rob Ellis (PJ Harvey's right hand studio man) has produced the album with her. Her playing is inspired by Django Rheinhart as much as Jimi Hendrix and her singing style is Nina Simone with a bit Maria Callas- her sound is a passionate and incredibly original mix.1.Rider To the Sea

ADAD-FAM-6510xSuzanne Langille and Neel Murgai
Wild And Foolish HeartSuzanne Langille started her recording career as a vocalist alongside Loren Mazzacane Connors on a string of rare LPs in the mid-'80s acclaimed for their startling transformation of the blues. Since, Langille has added vocals and lyrics to many of Connors albums, including the landmark Hell's Kitchen Park, collaborated with San Agustin and issued a conceptual full-length on Secretly Canadian in 1998. But all along a proper solo album has never surfaced until now.
Wild & Foolish Heart joins Langille with Indian classical musician Neel Murgai, a long-time collaborator and leader of his own ensemble. Langille's blues-filled moans are perfectly matched to the dazzling drone and subtle melodic rhythm of Murgai's tanpura and daf (Persian frame drum). Their reworking of popular/traditional songs and Langille's own dramatic compositions draw out redemption, sorrow and celebration in a way that makes listening to these sides feel like uncovering a lost field recording of otherworldly haunts or spirituals. Langille's pervading melancholic tone flares in the tradition of Patti Smith and Thalia Zedek at times. The LP ends with a scorching blowout from the Haunted House band, the legendary/defunct downtown 'blues rock' improv-combo fronted by Langille, with Murgai, Connors and San Augstin guitarist Andrew Burnes.
This 550-edition LP features cover art from Loren Connors, a selection of his rarely seen photography/collage work, and is pressed in an edition of 550 copies.1. Invocation

City MusicCity Music is an airplane descending over frozen lakes into Chicago. City Music is riding the Q Train out to Coney Island to smell the ocean and a morning in Philadelphia where great cranes reconfigure the buildings like an endless puzzle. City Music is also the new album by Kevin Morby.
Full of listless wanderlust, it's a collection inspired by and devoted to the metropolitan experience across America and beyond by a songwriter cast from his own mold. It is a collection crafted using the other side of its creator's brain, the jumping off point perhaps best once again encapsulated by an image. Here, Lou Reed and Patti Smith stare out at the listener, explains Morby.
City Music sees Morby joined once again by cohorts Megan Duffy (guitar) and Justin Sullivan (drums). Here the vocals were recorded at night, in darkness, overlooking a Pacific Ocean illuminated only by the stars, the wash and whisper of the ebbing tidal a distant soundtrack. The record was completed with Richard Swift in Oregon (producer of Foxygen, sometime member of The Black Keys). Here the album gives voice to all those cities speaking the same universal language of chaos and commerce and culture.1. Come To Me Now

Too TrueIn the summer of 2012, between tours supporting End of Daze, I
locked out the world and sat down in my apartment to write a new record
- clear view of the New York City sky through iron bars like a promise.
Like all compulsive minds, I was waiting to let the muse loose. And so
I spent the next week in a sparkling haze, and when I emerged from the
frenzy to go back on tour, indeed ten new songs came with. They were
bound together, not just by an overall sonic palette and new guitar pedal,
but by time, intention, and fervor. Do you hear Suede? Siouxie? Cold-wave
Patti? Madonna? Cure? Velvet and Paisley Undergrounds? Stone Roses?
Cuz I did.
Still later, in November 2012, I returned to Hollywood to record among
the lingering Pet Sounds at East West Studios, in pursuit of a bigger,
darker, more urgent sound. Sitting in the room with my favorite team of
regulars (Richard Gottehrer and Sune Rose Wagner producing, Alonzo
Vargas engineering), it was easy to add some flesh to my song skeletons.
But, unfortunately, the previous year of touring had reduced my voice
to a pale spectre of its former self. I left California with the heavy burden
of an unfinished album.
Truly one of those disguised blessings though - the extra time was a
gift. These songs weren't done at all! So I recorded vocals alone in my
bedroom studio, fueled by Rainer Maria Rilke, Anais Nin, Arthur Rimbaud,
Paul Verlaine, Charles Baudelaire, Sylvia Plath; the punk poet singers
Patti Smith and Lou Reed; and finally, an unhealthy obsession with the
Surrealists' manifesto of desire.
I write this now, many months later, on the up. So much of my life has
been defined, aided, and even saved by music. Too True is my best
attempt at joining the rock'n'roll ranks, of chasing pop into the dark,
and I am as ever, humbled that you listen.

Temporary People (Awaiting Repress)Temporary People is the second LP by Joseph Arthur And The Lonely Astronauts, a NYC-based collective. Arthur, along with guitarists Kraig Jarret Johnson (The Jayhawks) and Jennifer Turner (Fur Slide, Natalie Merchant), drummer Greg Wieczorek (Twilight Singers) and bassist Sibyl Buck, descended upon the Catskill wilderness to conjure what Arthur testifies as a fully-realized, awesome explosion of rock and roll. The best and truest things are born out of necessity, Arthur explains. I hung onto the recording of this album like a man in the middle of the ocean would to a a piece of wood floating by, you can hear it in the songs and you can hear it in the band pulling together. This album is the sound of survival. The follow up to 2007's Let's Just Be, Temporary People finds the Astronauts steeped in rattling anthems (Faith, Temporary People), unearthly rock revivals (Dead Savior, Look into the Sky) and classic country inspired hymns (Say Goodbye, Turn You On).
Jo is one of those rare writer-performers where you get the sense, whatever your belief, that something greater is being channeled through his music and voice. Like Patti Smith, Grant Lee Phillips, Thom Yorke, he trances and the voice, the meaning, becomes bigger than him, bigger than a few pop chords or words strung together. It touches something very deep and universal. - Michael Stipe, R.E.M.1. Temporary People

Grant Hart's first solo album of the 21st century is one of the best things he has ever done. The former Husker Du drummer and co-songwriter worked with the diverse cast of musicians from Godspeed You Black Emperor and Silver Mt. Zion on this new LP, Hot Wax, recorded in Montreal and Minneapolis. Grant on some of the some of the songs: the song Narcissus, Narcissus is my first attempt at combining ancient Greek mythology and American rock-a-billy. By merging those influences with an ice cream truck atmosphere I think I have found a style that defines this period of my career. You're the Reflection of the Moon on the Water is one of the most organic rock and roll songs that I have ever written. It's style owes a lot to my devotion for patti smith. It was inspired by a comment made by a monk during the selection process to find the next Panchen Lhama, who said of one candidate, he is the reflection of the moon on the water but he is not the moon. You're the Reflection of the Moon on the Water
