    The Diary Instrumentals

PayJay Productions, Inc. was the company James Dewitt "J Dilla" Yancey founded in 2001 to
house his production company and his publishing company.

The Estate of James Yancey has revived PayJay as a functioning imprint, and announced the
release of J Dilla's long lost vocal album, The Diary. The tracks come straight from multi-track
masters found on 2-inch tape shortly after Dilla's passing in 2006. Many were mixed by Dilla
himself. Those that weren't have been mixed by engineer Dave Cooley, who worked
extensively with Dilla during his years in Los Angeles. Using Dilla's original demo mixes as his
guide, Cooley attempted to finalize Dilla's vision for these tracks, while keeping all of the
elements that Dilla had in place in his original demos present.

The Diary is now available as an instrumental release, featuring production by the likes of
Madlib, Pete Rock, Nottz, House Shoes, Karriem Riggins and others.

    Mecca & The Soul Brother

Mecca And The Soul Brother from 1992 is considered by fans and critics as one of the finest hip hop albums of the early 90s. Songs like Lots of Lovin, They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.), Anger In The Nation and It It Ain't Rough, It Ain't Right have everything; funky basslines, solid production, convincing lyrics and lots of soul. Producer Pete Rock built his beats from obscure R&B, funk and jazz records and CL Smooth added his sometimes philosophical raps.

Guest rappers on the album include Grand Puba (of Brand Nubian), Heavy D, Rob-O, Grap & Dida, and it reached #7 in the US R&B/Hip-hop charts and #43 in the US album charts.

Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth stopped working together in 1995 after finishing their follow-up album The Main Ingredient. Rumor has it that the duo will be reuniting for a brand new album.

    Blackout! 2

With over 16 years in the business, Redman & Method Man are certifiable rap superstars with a devoted fan-base that spans the globe. The secret to their longevity as one of raps longest lasting duos is due in part to the fact that the two emcees bring fun to hip-hop. Hardly taking themselves too seriously, Red & Meth have always been about good times and carefree humor, as evidenced on their debut album Blackout! (1999) and the follow-up How High Soundtrack (2001). Their comedic personalities allowed them to transition to the big screen in the cult classic film How High (2001) as well as the small screen with the FOX sitcom Method & Red (2004). Now they're back with the sequel to their debut, Blackout 2! The album features production from Pete Rock, Erick Sermon and Rockwilda among others.

    Pete Yorn

With ten years and five studio albums under his belt, Pete Yorn is a stalwart in the singer/songwriter world. Originally receiving acclaim for his work scoring a Farrelly Brothers film (Me, Myself and Irene), Yorn quickly began garnering much deserved attention for his efforts as a songwriter outside of his work on film. Having tasted success, Yorn released his first full-length, musicforthemorningafter in 2001, which went gold and had Rolling Stone hailing him one of Ten To Watch in 2001.

Fast forward through nearly a decade and multiple musical ventures to 2010 to find Pete Yorn releasing his sixth studio album on Vagrant Records. The 11-song collection was produced by Frank Black (The Pixies) and is comprised of raw tracks, born of shattered nerves and shifting dreams yet edged with hope.

Recorded on the spur-of-the-moment in the summer of 2008, Yorns forthcoming album is a self-titled piece with a plain black cover. While in the midst of tracking Back & Forth, Yorn received an email from Frank Black suggesting they record some songs. After hopping a plane to Salem, OR, Black and Yorn set up an impromptu studio where they created the album in a mere five days. The result is Yorns most introspective work to date, as the self-titled album explores relationships, ambivalence and our natural fear of the future and unknown.

    Pete Townshend's Classic Quadrophenia

As a leading icon of the British music revolution of the 1960s, Pete Townshend made his name by creating the power chord, smashing guitars onstage, and penning anthems of teenage rebellion like My Generation.

Now, at almost 70 years old and half a century after he penned the archetypal rock lyric Hope I die before I get old , Townshend has created a classical version of one of The Who s landmark albums Quadrophenia for a symphony orchestra, opera singer and choir.

The new symphonised version of Quadrophenia, an album originally released by The Who in 1973, was orchestrated by Rachel Fuller, a professional composer, orchestrator and singer-songwriter in her own right and also the partner of Pete Townshend.

It will be released by the Deutsche Grammophon label, internationally renowned for its repertoire of classical and opera music, and launched next summer with a world premiere concert at the Royal Albert Hall, performed by the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra and London Oriana Choir.

The project is the latest chapter in Townshend s lifelong mission to break the three-minute mould of the traditional pop song and take rock music to a higher artistic level. In the 1960s he defined the concept of the rock opera with Tommy, taking it a stage further with Quadrophenia.
Conceived and written by Townshend in 1973, Quadrophenia went on to become a feature film and a theatre production, and was performed in its entirety on The Who s most recent live tour. For the last three years Townshend has worked closely with Rachel Fuller on brand-new arrangements for orchestra, soloists and choir.

Recorded with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in October 2014 at London s legendary Air Studios, the new incarnation of this classic rock opera is conducted by Robert Ziegler and features popular British tenor Alfie Boe on vocals, with Townshend himself on electric guitar and performing cameo vocal roles. Townshend will reprise his roles at the live world premiere at the Royal Albert Hall in London on 5 July 2015, alongside the RPO, Ziegler, Boe and other star guests.

The rock superstar began work on the project as part of his plan to leave a legacy of all his work arranged for orchestra as sheet music, for future generations to enjoy. Townshend hopes the new work will go on to become a regular part of the orchestral repertoire and boost attendance at classical concerts.

A lot of major symphony orchestras are in trouble because their audience is getting old and the younger audiences prefer softer stuff, such as film soundtrack music, he explains. I think that Quadrophenia would reinvigorate their audiences and bring in people who might not otherwise go to see a symphony orchestra perform without lights and fireworks and a movie screen.

Rachel Fuller, who was born in the year Quadrophenia was first released, admits she had never heard The Who s album until several years after she first met Townshend in a London recording studio, while he was rehearsing for The Who s 1996 tour of that album and she was working with Ute Lemper.

I loved it as soon as I heard it about ten years ago, she says. For me it's been an act of love to orchestrate it for Pete. It's also been a joy to work on because it is very orchestral by nature, even as a rock album, so it was very easy to arrange for an orchestra. And I've remained really faithful to the original tracks because he's the composer and I want to honour his work.

Robert Pete Williams with Big Joe Williams (Pure Pleasure)

REAL blues ... He took the pain in his soul and the dirt on his hands and made songs out of them ... Robert Pete Williams ... the most avant-garde blues performer ever recorded. No punk rock band has ever matched the jagged, acerbic fury of the riffs Williams played 35 years ago. No rapper has approached his ability to evoke the torment of life in prison or bend language to cast an eerie spell over a chance encounter with a seductive woman. His blues was extremely original, sometimes even hard to understand. No other performer has captured the emotional effect of a desperate situation like he did. He had never been recorded when he was discovered in Angola Penitentiary in Louisiana, convicted of murder.

Robert Pete probably has the most unique blues style of all bluesmen. Neither his guitar work nor his singing can be categorized into any established regional style such as East Coast, Mississippi Delta or Texas Blues. His music and lyrics are spontaneous and original. No major influence of other bluesmen can be found in his idiosyncratic, intensely personal performances. Blues scholar Pete Welding described his music as tough, mean, and, above all, impassioned like the man himself.

    Musicians:

    • Robert Pete Williams (guitar, vocal)

    • Big Joe Williams (kazoo)

Recording: March 1972 in Copenhagen, Denmark

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

The long-lived New York-based heavy metal band Riot was formed in 1976 by guitarist/songwriter Mark Reale, who in time recruited vocalist Guy Speranza, guitarist L.A. Kouvaris, bassist Jimmy Iommi and drummer Peter Bitelli. After debuting in 1977 with Rock City, Kouvaris was replaced by guitarist Rick Ventura, and the group returned in 1979 with Narita; Iommi and Bitelli were the next to exit, and with the recruitment of bassist Kip Leming and drummer Sandy Slavin the classic Riot line-up was in place. Tours in support of AC/DC and Molly Hatchet followed before the release of 1981's Fire Down Under, considered by fans the band's creative peak; with the departure of frontman Speranza, however, Riot suffered a major blow from which they never fully recovered. New vocalist Rhett Forrester made his debut on 1982's Restless Breed, but after issuing Made in America a year later. Reale announced the band's dissolution; after forming a new group, the Mark Reale Project, he reformed Riot in late 1986 with vocalist Tony Moore, bassist Don VanStavern and drummer Bobby Jarzombek. The new line-up's comeback effort, Thundersteel, appeared in 1988, followed two years later by The Privilege of Power; after adding second guitarist Mike Flyntz and replacing VanStavern with bassist Pete Perez, the group toured the Far East, yielding the LP Riot in Japan Live !!! in 1992. After 1994's Nightbreaker, Jarzombek quit Riot, and was replaced by drummer John Macaluso for 1996's The Brethren of the Long House; Jarzombek returned to the fold to release Inishmore two years later, with Sons of Society following in 1999. - Jason Ankeny (All Music Guide)

Immobilarity is the second studio album and the follow-up to Only Built 4 Cuban Linx by Wu-Tang Clan member Raekwon (a.k.a. The Chef). Raekwon has been cited as a pioneer of Mafioso rap and is the founder of his own label ICEH20 Records.

The producers Triflyn, The Infinite Arkatechz, and Six July Productions gave Immobilarity the same sounds which producer RZA gave to Raekwon's first album with ill beats and street lyrics.

Fellow rappers from the Wu-Tang Clan also appear on the album such as Method Man on Fuck Them, Power with the American Cream Team and The Table featuring Masta Killa. As a nice bonus attribute, there's even a solid Pete Rock produced track Sneakers with Raekwon's flowing rhymes.

Raekwon explained that the album title is an acronym for I Move More Officially by Implementing Loyalty and Respect in the Youth.

The album, which was originally released in 1999, reached to number 2 in the US Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and number 4 on the US Billboard album charts and was certified gold by the RIAA.

    ArrangingTime

Pete Yorn will release his sixth full-length studio album, and first for Capitol Records, ArrangingTime, in 2016.

ArrangingTime plays with the elasticity of the years- it's not only a culmination of the Los Angeles by way of New Jersey artist's adventurous latter-day projects, but a return to his original leaner methods. For the first time since Yorn's RIAA gold-certified debut, musicforthemorningafter [2001] and its follow-up Day I Forgot [2003] producer R. Walt Vincent returns to help Yorn execute his most poised and diverse set of songs yet. ArrangingTime runs the gamut from elegiac folk to wasteland blues to upbeat, synth-kissed rock. Of course, some things never change. Yorn still plays the observer, stepping into characters - or his past selves from previous years - routing wistful poems and beatific visions through the weather-beaten voice of a man who's seen a few things in his time.

"I'll look at pictures of places I went, or things I did," says Yorn, "and I think, 'Look at how great that day was and you just missed it.' I think about the past and how much of it is a blur. The title of the album is a reminder to be present and within each song is a minor lesson about that. Time only gets faster as you get older."

A Meal You Can Shake Hands With In The Dark (Pure Pleasure)

Pete Brown was a Londoner and a veteran of the underground scene. Born in 1940, he first came to prominence as a poet. He was just 14 when his first poem appeared in Evergreen Revue in the US. Then in the early sixties he worked alongside another British poet Mike Horowitz. His direct involvement with rock music came when he was asked to form a songwriting partnership with Jack Bruce to write lyrics for Cream and the partnership proceeded to produce the lyrics for many of their finest songs: Wrapping Paper, I Feel Free, Sunshine Of Your Love and White Room. After the demise of Cream, Brown continued to write with Bruce but also began his own recording career with The Battered Ornaments who included Chris Spedding. After an initial 45, which with its wailing saxes and effective vocals was underrated, the band recorded this album which was a mixture of jazz-rock and blues. Dark Lady, The Old Man and Station Song were among the fine tracks and the latter later got a further airing on the Before Singing Lessons compilation. Station Song and Dark Lady had earlier featured along with Travelling Blues on the ultra-rare promo-only Harvest Sampler in 1969.

Brown then suffered the humiliation of being thrown out of the band the night before they had a Hyde Park gig with The Rolling Stones. Brown's response was to form a new band, Piblokto!

This release breaks the long sides down to four sides of vinyl which enhances the sound quality considerably. Also of interest is that it has been mastered in the same studio at Abbey Road as was the initial release and from the same original analogue tape masters.

    Break Up

Predating Johanssons debut album, Anywhere I Lay My Head, by nearly two years; Break Up was conceived and recorded in 2006, in producer Sunny Levines garage studio. I always thought of it as just a small project between friends, explains Johansson. Ive loved the album ever since I heard it completed. It perfectly captured where I was in my life at the time. Yorn was protective of Break Up initially, playing it for no one until last year. When those close to him finally heard the album, the overwhelming response convinced Yorn that it was simply too strong a work to remain under lock and key.

Break Up includes eight original compositions by Yorn, ranging in tone from the lilting opener Relator to the disarming, retro/futuristic I Don't Know What To Do to the climactic Someday. Completing the collection is a powerful interpretation of the art-rock classic I Am The Cosmos by the late Chris Bell, co-founder of quintessential cult band Big Star.

Produced by Levine, with Yorn and Max Goldblatt as executive producers, the album features contributions from guitarist Robert Francis; bassist Giuseppe Patane; and violinist Amir Yaghmai, with Goldblatt on banjo, synth bass and backing vocals, and Levine handling programming and mixing.

    Musicforthemorningafter

    10th Anniversary Reissue!

Pete Yorn's 2001 release Musicforthemorningafter was arguably one of the last of its kind: an unknown singer/songwriters debut, given a classic major-label push. And it still sounds like one of the best things that happened to rock that year. Made at the weird unruly intersection of '90s alternative rock and a new stubbornly-indie underground, Yorns first record was a decisive turn away from the large hollow rage of grunge and rap-metal, into a richer tumult of folk-rock reflection, garage-band grind and pop-smart composition, with a striking confessional tension rooted in Yorns teenage passion for the British rhythm and melancholy of the Smiths, the Cure and New Order. LP reissue features original 2LPs in gatefold jacket, remastered by original engineer Bob Ludwig, on 180g vinyl.

    The Iron Man (Half-Speed Master)

Limited Edition Heavyweight 180-Gram Silver Vinyl

Remastered At Abbey Road With Half-Speed Mastering Process

The Iron Man: The Musical by Pete Townshend, originally released in 1989, is an adaptation of Ted Hughes' story The Iron Man, produced and largely composed and performed by Pete Townshend of The Who. It also stars Roger Daltrey, Deborah Conway, John Lee Hooker, and Nina Simone.

The three then-surviving members of The Who (Daltrey, John Entwistle, and Townshend) performed as a group in two songs, Dig and Fire, although the latter was not penned by Townshend. (The Who would later perform Dig live during their 1989 reunion tour.)

A Friend is a Friend and I Won't Run Anymore were released as singles; Fire was also issued as a promo-only in the United States.

A stage version was mounted at the Young Vic theatre in London in 1993. On the strength of this, Warners optioned the story for a movie which, with a very different adaptation of the story, became The Iron Giant; Townshend received an Executive Producer credit.

    Scoop

Pete Townshend's demos had grown legendary among Who collectors well before the official release of the double-album Scoop in 1983. On each demo,Townshend worked out full arrangements, which the Who would often follow exactly. He also recorded a wealth of songs and instrumental pieces that never made it to record.

Over the course of two albums, Scoop features 25 of these demos, including both classic Who songs (So Sad About Us, Bargain,Behind Blue Eyes, Magic Bus, Love Reign O'er Me) and unreleased gems(Politician, Melancholia, To Barney Kessell, Mary). Occasionally, the songs sound better in their demo versions, particularly on latter-day Who songs, which were over-wrought in their official incarnations.

But what makes Scoop so fascinating is its revelation of the depth and detail of Townshend's imagination, and how he refined his ideas. But even casual fans will find the sheer musicality of the record worthwhile it's one of the most focused and impressive albums he has ever released.

    Scoop 3

In a world of trendy popsters, the King of Rock Royalty emerges solo with a new masterpiece. Scoop 3 is a continuation of Townshend's infamous Scoop projects, proving that carefully orchestrated lullabys, such as I Think I Like It the Way It Is, can co-exist with the cutting, raw power of bedroom style recording in Dirty Water. Townshend miraculously brings to life a notebook of his art in a fashion that may seem a bit unorthodox to some, but fully realized to devoted music lovers of all ages.

This three LP set offers many moods to travel through, only to realize that Townshend is still a sure bet when it comes to pleasure, beauty, and intensity.

    Who Came First (Half-Speed Master)

Limited Edition Heavyweight 180-Gram White Vinyl

Remastered At Abbey Road With Half-Speed Mastering Process

This 1972 release was the first release by Pete Townshend outside of The Who. The album is a collection of music dedicated to Meher Baba, Townshend's spiritual master and follows on from the private pressings of 'Happy Birthday' another devotional album which Townshend put together to celebrate the first anniversary of the passing of Baba and its follow up 'I Am'. 'Who Came First' came about because of the bootlegging of these albums and Decca in the States pushing for an official release. In response Townshend decided to release a new album, with Decca promising $1 of every sale going towards Baba projects. The resultant album exposes Townshend's spiritual enlightenment and sees him perform with fellow Baba followers, including Ronnie Lane and Billy Nicholls.

The album includes Townshend's versions of Who Classics 'Let's See Action' and the sublime opener 'Pure and Easy' as well as cover versions of songs which were Baba favourites. The album closes with the epic 'Parvadigar', a rendition of Meher Baba's Universal Prayer, set to music by PeteTownshend.

    Empty Glass (Half-Speed Master)

Limited Edition Heavyweight 180-Gram Clear Vinyl

Remastered At Abbey Road With Half-Speed Mastering Process

Considered by Pete Townshend to be his first 'real' solo album 'Empty Glass' was also to become his most commercially successful. Whereas 'Who Came First' was a devotional album and 'Rough Mix' a collaboration, Townshend had no such restrictions on this 1980 release. Coming after Keith Moon's death the album sees Townshend at his most emotional and rawest as he publicly acknowledges his own addictions and exorcises his demons.

The album was written while Townshend was also trying to write new material for The Who and complaints were raised in some circles that he was keeping the best material for his solo work. The album certainly contains songs that would have worked for the band (a version of the title track was actually recorded by The Who) but the personal investment in the material by the composer shines through. The album spawned three singles including the top ten US smash 'Let My Love Open The Door' as well as 'Empty Glass' and 'A Little Is Enough'.

    Illmatic

Ranked 400/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

    Import (Germany)

Illmatic is the debut album of American rapper Nas, released April 19, 1994, on Columbia Records. Following his signing to the label with the help of MC Serch, the album was recorded during 1992 to 1993 at Chung King Studios, D&D Recording, Battery Studios, and Unique Recording Studios in New York City. Its production was handled by Nas, Large Professor, Pete Rock, Q-Tip, L.E.S., and DJ Premier. Stylistically a hardcore hip hop album, Illmatic features Nas' multi-syllabic internal rhyme patterns expressing inner city lyrical themes and narratives based on his native Queensbridge, New York.

Upon its release, the album debuted at number 12 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart, selling 59,000 copies in its first week. However, its initial sales fell below expectations and its five singles failed to achieve significant chart success. While it experienced initial low sales, Illmatic received positive reviews from most music critics upon its release and earned praise for its lyrical content, production, and Nas' lyricism. On January 17, 1996, the album was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America, and in 2001, it earned platinum certification after shipments of one million copies in the United States.

Since its initial reception, the album has been recognized by writers and music critics as a landmark album in East Coast hip hop. It contributed to the regional scene's artistic renaissance in New York, while marking an influential, stylistic change in hip hop at the time. Its influence on subsequent hip hop artists has been attributed to the album's production and Nas' rapping. Several writers have cited Illmatic as one of the quintessential hip hop recordings and one of the greatest hip hop albums of all time. It has been included in numerous best album lists by critics and publications.

    Another Scoop

A second collected volume of demo versions of songs destined to be considered for recording by The Who, this 1987 release on Atco Records is as an even stronger collection than it's 1983 predecessor. It (again) contains rough, acoustic workups of many Who standards in their infant form such as You Better You Bet, Pinball Wizard, Happy Jack, Substitute, Pictures of Lily and The Kids Are Alright among others. The curiosity lies solely in the head-arrangements on songs that were to become associated with time and enveloped within, Roger Daltry's vocal gymnastics. Here, sung by Townshend himself, one can sense the writer's distinct persona.

The comparison to eventual more famous versions is fascinating in most cases. The exposure of these workups reveals how great these songs really are, stripped down. Other selections include Girl In A Suitcase, Brooklyn Kids, Football Fugue, Long Live Rock, Call me Lightning, Holly Like Ivy, Begin The Beguine, Vicious Interlude, La-La-Lies, Cat Snatch, Prelude ##556, Baroque Ippenese, Praying The Game, Drifting Blues, Christmas, Don't Let Go The Coat, Prelude: The Right To Write, Never Ask Me, Ask Yourself, The Ferryman and The Shout.

    This Year's Model

    180 Gram Vinyl

Elvis Costello's follow-up to his debut release is now on 180 gram vinyl re-mastered from the original master tapes. This was Elvis's first album with The Attractions and includes the songs "Pump It Up," "I Don't Want To Go To (Chelsea)" and "Radio, Radio."

Stylistically versatile, deeply varied, and melodically catchy, this where Costello came into his ownand where the chemistry between virtuosic keyboardist Steve Nieve, bassist Bruce Thomas, and drummer Pete Thomas produced one of rocks best groups. A dynamic maelstrom of emotional spite, bitter frustration, sexual angst, and caustic political commentary, the 1978 set boosted Costellos star and yielded innumerable standards: the undying MOR protest Radio Radio, fervent Pump It Up, smart (I Dont Want to Go to) Chelsea, and spunky No Action are all here. While often cited as Costellos angry record,

This Years Model has more to do with disappointments and denials. The album bursts forth with a savage energy not possible without the Attractions, which are responsible for the songs being built from the ground up. Where Costellos voice and twangy guitar dominate My Aim Is True, here, sizzling rhythms and Nieves colorful organ runs anchor the foundations. This is a group effort, with Costellos biting lyrics taking chances and forcing the listener to mull double meanings all the while the music zooms by at a fast clip.

    Quadrophenia

Ranked 266/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

After the 1971 album Who's Next, Pete Townshend returned to the 'rock opera', so dramatically realized through Tommy, with another ambitious double-album masterpiece. Based around the story of Jimmy, Quadrophenia tells the tale of a young mod and his struggle to come of age in the mid-1960s. The story also takes its influence from the band's early fans from the original mod era, and its themes of teenage angst and disaffection still resonate strongly today.

The project was intended to reflect the four characters of The Who and features some of Townshend's most inspired, personal songwriting, way ahead of its time in scope and purpose. Quadrophenia is one of the most widely recognized albums of The Who's career because of its classic depiction of mod culture, its renowned imagery and the magnificent music and powerful performances. The Glyn Johns produced album is hugely significant in popular culture, influencing many other artists, musicians and film-makers, inspiring the classic 1979 British film by Franc Roddam and the U.K. mod revival of the 1970s.

    Shadows

Propelled by the stunning guitar heroics of brothers Pete and Jake Adams, Virginia's Valkyrie return with their third full length Shadows, one of the year's best guitar-driven, heavy rock records. Jam packed with harmonized leads, rich solos and melodic, blues-based riffs, Valkyrie sound like the perfect blend of American style doom rock bands like Pentagram or Spirit Caravan and classic hard rock like Thin Lizzy, Wishbone Ash, and Deep Purple. Where Pete Adams' other band Baroness focuses more on the modern proggy and poppy side of metal, Valkyrie looks to proto-metal trailblazers for influence while injecting plenty of current day inspiration. Produced by Sanford Parker (Pelican, Leviathan, YOB), Shadows is the perfect summer heavy rock record!
