The first two solo albums by Peter Tosh on Columbia Records were cornerstones of the roots-rock-reggae movement: 'Legalize It' (1976) and 'Equal Rights' (1977).

'Equal Rights' brought together Peter Tosh's dedications to the revolutionary movements growing in Africa, and his personal growth as a prophet, poet, preacher and world-class musical trailblazer. The album included a number of songs that became human rights anthems over the next two decades: "Get Up, Stand Up," "Downpressor Man," "African," "Apartheid," and the title tune.

Both 'Legalize It' and 'Equal Rights' will be commemorated with the release of Expanded Vinyl Editions. Each double LP package will contain fully remastered audio and Dub versions that were previously only available on very limited edition Jamaican dub plates. Both releases will include 2 detailed inserts.

Co-produced by Peter and David Lord this is the first album where Peter really immersed himself in the music of distant lands and cultures. It was also his first fully digital recording. These two elements created a deeply effective soldering-together of futurism and generations-old tradition. The single Shock The Monkey became Peter's first top 30 hit on the Billboard Hot 100. Half-Speed Remastered and cut to lacquers at 45RPM, across two heavyweight LPs to deliver maximum dynamic sound range. Vinyl cut by Matt Colton at Alchemy Mastering, mastered by Tony Cousins at Metropolis and overseen by Peter's main sound engineer Richard Chappell. These albums really have never sounded so good! They also look amazing with the gatefold sleeves utilising imagery from the initial release, sourced and re-scanned from original artwork.

Vinyl Cut By Matt Colton At Alchemy Mastering, Mastered By Tony Cousins At Metropolis And Overseen By Peter's Main Sound Engineer Richard Chappell

Produced by Steve Lillywhite this third album saw Peter change his writing style; now the rhythm came before the melody and the songs were built up on top of the rhythmic sequences. The album delivered a top 5 UK single in Games Without Frontiers and Peter's first overtly political song in the shape of totemic closer Biko. It also features notable contributions from Kate Bush, Paul Weller, Phil Collins and David Rhodes. Half-Speed Remastered and cut to lacquers at 33RPM, on heavyweight LP. Vinyl Cut By Matt Colton At Alchemy Mastering, Mastered By Tony Cousins At Metropolis And Overseen By Peter's Main Sound Engineer Richard Chappell

UP reveals itself to be another deeply personal statement with birth and death being near constant themes: it is what Peter calls a "book-end" record. Mostly recorded at Real World Studios the album came from hundreds of hours of recordings ultimately slimmed down to ten tracks. Produced by Peter and mixed by Tchad Blake and Stephen Hague. Half-Speed Remastered and cut to lacquers at 33RPM, on double heavyweight LPs. Having left Genesis in the summer of 1976, Peter's first solo album arrived in February 1977. He was 26. With legendary producer Bob Ezrin taking charge, the intention was to make a more direct and tougher record: something different from what had gone before. The record also provided one of Peter's most recognizable songs in the shape of Solsbury Hill. Half-Speed Remastered and cut to lacquers at 33RPM, on heavyweight LP. Peter Green's Fleetwood Mac

    Import

In 1967 Peter Green, Mick Fleetwood and John McVie played in the legendary John Mayall & The Blues Brakers, and were given free studio time during which they recorded five songs. Peter Green was so convinced of this band´s musical prowess that he formed it on the spot and named it after the drummer & the bass player.

John McVie, however, wasn't convinced yet, and it forced Fleetwood Mac to find a temporary replacement in Bob Burning. After a short while, however, he was as hooked on the Elmore James influenced British Blues that he left John Mayall to take a risk on a group of unknowns.
    The rest is history.

'Fleetwood Mac', the self-titled debut album, was released in 1968, and was one of the highlights of the late British Blues movement, climbing to the #4 slot in the UK album charts without producing one single, and managing to stay in the charts for 37 weeks.

It was a traditional blues album true to form, but one that also showcased Peter Green's budding singing and songwriting skills; 'I Loved A Woman' has a hint of the Latin Blues fusion he would perfect in 'Black Magic Woman' a year later, while 'Looking For Somebody' balanced humour and vulnerability that would come to characterize their style.

Classical Music On Vinyl Release: Packed In Sturdy PVC Collector's Bag

David Bowie Narrates Prokofiev's Peter And The Wolf (1978) is a classical music album containing David Bowie's narration of Sergei Prokofiev's 1936 composition Peter And The Wolf. The music is performed by the Philadelphia Orchestra conducted by Eugene Ormandy. The album reached number 136 on the US Pop Albums chart.

Side One contains the narration by David Bowie of public domain material originally written by Prokofiev. The second side of this LP features Eugene Ormandy conducting Benjamin Britten's Young Person's Guide To The Orchestra with the Philadelphia Orchestra. Ormandy and the aforementioned musicians from Philly also back up Bowie on side one.

Critics lauded the album, saying Bowie 'found his most charming guise since Hunky Dory.' He tells the well-known fable with his usual eloquence and style, and gives instructions at the beginning for kids to understand how the music corresponds to characters in the story. The accompaniment from the Philadelphia Orchestra is first rate.

The Music On Vinyl re-release includes detailed liner notes on the project by Mary Campbell, specifically geared to introduce children to the sounds of the individual instruments in the symphony orchestra. Both Prokofiev and Britten wrote their respective pieces with this aim in mind.

The Music From Peter Gunn (Speakers Corner)

This is not only a great LP but a key piece of jazz and pop music history. Back in 1958, Peter Gunn was one of the unexpected hits of the new television season, capturing the imagination of millions of viewers by mixing private eye action with a jazz setting. Composer Henry Mancini was more than fluent in jazz, and his music nailed down the popularity of the series. With the main title theme, a driving, ominous, exciting piece of music to lead off the album, The Music from Peter Gunn became a huge hit, charting extraordinarily high for a television soundtrack and doing so well that RCA Victor came back the next year asking for a second helping (More Music From Peter Gunn) from Mancini.

The music holds up: Session At Pete's Pad is a superb workout for the trumpets of Pete Candoli, Uan Rasey, Conrad Gozzo, and Frank Beach, while Barney Kessel's electric guitar gets the spotlight during Dreamsville; and Sorta Blue and Fallout are full-ensemble pieces that constitute quintessential 'cool' West Coast jazz of the period. In other words, it's all virtuoso orchestral jazz, presented in its optimum form.

    Musicians:

    • Henry Mancini (arranger, conductor)

    • Dick Nash, Milt Bernhart (trombone)

    • Pete Candoli (trumpet)

    • Johnny T. Williams (piano)

    • Larry Bunker (vibraphone)

    • Rolly Bundock (bass)

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

Henderson - Prokofiev: Peter And The Wolf / Saint-Saens: Carnival of the Animals (Speakers Corner)

For those who enjoy a pun, Saint-Saëns's Carnival of the Animals and Prokofiev's symphonic tale for children Peter and the Wolf might well be described as "beastly". And this recording makes no exception for it is, indeed, quite spectacular! Both works are introduced by the roaring and screaming of the inhabitants of London Zoo. The individual orchestral instruments are introduced during the course of the music and are commented upon by a human voice in a narrative.

The characters and animals are each given a characteristic theme which is presented by a particular instrument or register. While Prokofiev wrote his composition with a pedagogic purpose in mind, Saint-Saëns's main aim was to create a piece of musical fun. The mischievous work not only offers a lively depiction of various animals and even hollow-sounding fossils (by means of the xylophone), but also contains numerous tongue-in-cheek references to works by great composers.

These two musical masterpieces combine humour with education in a thoroughly fascinating and enchanting manner and are equally loved by children and adults alike. The interpretation and sound of this DECCA LP certainly earns first prize for being "beastly"!

This double album originally released in 1964 opens with a then-new Bob Dylan song, The Times They Are A' Changin', and closes with the best-known song ever written by Pete Seeger and Lee Hayes, If I Had a Hammer. That seems to sum up Peter, Paul & Mary, but In Concert offers a lot more than that, writes All Music Guide.

The surprises include vignettes in blues and gospel, and, most notably, the group's humorous digressions. Peter, Paul & Mary spared few opportunities for a good laugh on stage, beginning with the introduction to A' Soalin', which shows off a lightheartedness that was an essential part of who they were, even as it leads into an exquisitely sung round-like piece that should have found its way into the repertory of Steeleye Span. Blue gives the trio a chance to play around with rock & roll, from doo wop to British Invasion, through the song Old Blue (satirizing folk music purists at the same time), and Paul Stookey adds his own sound effect embellishments to Woody Guthrie's Car-Car. The solo spots are also worthwhile, particularly Peter Yarrow's introspective version of Le Deserteur, followed by his dazzling, rousing sing-along on Oh, Rock My Soul; and Mary Travers' rendition of Single Girl, a low-key proto-feminist song. The group's rendition of It's Raining achieves an exquisite mix of gossamer textured harmonizing and thematic innocence, and their rendition of the Reverend Gary Davis' If I Had My Way is a bracing re-interpretation for three interwoven voices. Finally, the version of If I Had a Hammer that closes this album is superior to their hit single of the same song. Mastered by Kevin Gray, 200-gram pressing by Quality Record Pressings, gatefold jacket.

    Valhalla Rising Soundtrack

    Limited Edition 180 Gram Vinyl

    1000 Units Pressed

Before Only God Forgives and Drive visionary Danish director Nicolas
Winding Refn had made a strong impression worldwide with his 2009 English-language film Valhalla Rising. The ålm, starring Mads
Mikkelsen (The Hunt), takes place in 1000 AD and follows a Norse
warrior named One-Eye and a boy as they travel with a band of Christian Crusaders looking for the Holy Land. Instead, they and
themselves in an unknown and unfamiliar land.

The soundtrack to Valhalla Rising was never made available to the public. For the first time fans will be able to discover the full
soundtrack to this cult film featuring a hypnotic and dark score by
Peter Peter and Peter Kyed (who had previously scored Nicolas
    Winding Refn's Pusher trilogy).

The album mixes beautiful ambient soundscapes and rock infused
industrial sounds creating a unique musical atmosphere. Nicolas Winding Refn's cinema is visual and contemplative. Music is not only
decorum, but also a full on character embodying the emotions and the
underlying themes. The soundtrack to Valhalla Rising is a perfect
illustration of that pure cinematic language practiced with one of the
most exciting filmmaker of our time.

    Seaside Rock

After spending the first half of the year concentrating on his solo venture, Peter MorÉn rejoins Bjorn and John for the trios followup to 2006s Writers Block. The mostly instrumental, Seaside Rock is Peter Bjorn and John's fourth studio release and it serves as a homage to their respective hometowns. They wanted to feature the voice and dialect from each of their three areas so apart from the instrumental soundtrack to the lonely childhood of northern Scandinavia you can also hear three monologues recurring throughout the record. Since the childhood of each of the three members was quite similar, growing up in small villages located near water in the north of Sweden, Peter Bjorn and John decided to have the theme of water as the main inspiration for the record. Limited to only 5000 LPs on White Vinyl, each accompanied by a download code.

    Lentemuziek

Peter Broderick-produced debut from the Dutch singer/songwriter, Laura Arkana shows the promise of a new voice. The recordings are warm and unfussy. For her part, Arkana paints specific details into her song-vignettes and sings with a conversational lilt. Her finger-pickingclean and anchoredgives rhythmic flight to a sophisticated melodic sensibility. It were as if she arrived fully formed.

For his part, Peter Broderick combines a wealth of experience with his signature restraint and sensitivity, letting the songs breathe while enhancing their textural depth and dynamics with stringed instruments, vocals and percussion.

With Laura Arkana Met Peter Broderick (the word met here fulfills an international double entendre which translates to with in Dutch) listeners are delighted to discover song-scape like so many sprouting vines and stems intertwining with the relentlessness of Springtime in Paris, in Berlin, in where you are now.
