Twenty-Five For The Rest Of Our LivesLos Angeles quartet The Henry Clay People are thrilled to announce the release of their new album Twenty-Five for the Rest of Our Lives. Set for release on TBD Records, the album is a thrilling and sweaty thirty minutes of teenage restlessness, quarter-life malaise, and adult resignation. Twenty-Five for the Rest of Our Lives sees not only the return of the band's original line up, but songwriters and brothers Joey and Andy Siara rediscovering and redefining their punky roots, allowing them to craft their most urgent, bratty, and melancholic record to date.
"We wanted to finally make the record that our sixteen year old selves would have been excited about," says Joey. "Unfortunately the only way to do so was to live for the last 13 years and get some adult suffering under our belt. Now we can direct our misguided teenage angst at our failed 20's."
With songs such as the rambunctious The Backseat Of A Cab, the 90's guitar slack of Hide, the skater brat inspired The Fakers and the punk revival of EveryBandWeEverLoved, Twenty-Five for the Rest of Our Lives is a record dealing with compromised dreams and empty bank accounts, for and by the high school Descendents devotee turned college Malkmus-minion. LP includes full album on CD and poster.
"The Henry Clay People specialize in raggedy power chords, barreling piano, and desperately boyish vocals, what Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers would sound like if they'd taken temp work and listened obsessively to Crazy Horse." - SPIN
"Remarkable set of classic-sounding indie-rock with clear echoes of Pavement, the Hold Steady, the Replacements and early Built to Spill, but they find their own voice with detailed songs that split the difference between sardonic and heartfelt when describing the music scene, living in debt and working part-time, transforming everyday subject matter into raging, celebratory anthems for slacker rock 'n' rollers and other folks just trying to make ends meet." - KEXPIntro- Bob's Memoirs

Mystery Girl ExpandedEveryone involved with Mystery Girl sensed the magic in Roy Orbison, who, in 1988, was enjoying a full creative renaissance and resurgence of popularity. One of Roy's classic recordings, "In Dreams," memorably lip-synched into a hurricane lamp by Dean Stockwell, had served as a key thematic element in David Lynch's "Blue Velvet," igniting a renewed interest in the Big O.
In a series of bold aesthetic moves, Orbison directly addressed his legacy, first with Class of '55 (a 1986 reunion album with fellow Sun Records alumni Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins) and then, In Dreams: The Greatest Hits, where Orbison recut many of his biggest songs, using 1980s technology to produce results often surpassing his original recordings.
At this same time, Roy Orbison became a founding member of the Traveling Wilburys, the roots rock supergroup also featuring Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, and Tom Petty. It was during work with the Wilburys that the vision for Mystery Girl, a new Roy Orbison album made of original songs from a variety of writers-including Roy Orbison, Diane Warren, Elvis Costello, Wesley Orbison and U2s Bono and the Edge (among others)-began taking shape.
"When he sang it, it was absolutely magnificent," said Jeff Lynne, who would produce tracks for Mystery Girl. "His voice, I had never heard a voice like that live, you know, in the studio, ever . He had this wonderful spirit, almost like a kid in many ways.
He was just a happy guy. I love him . One of the proudest things I've ever done is to have become his friend. I'd look at him and just go, 'Wow, it's him. The Big O.'"
Roy's core group of musicians on the original Mystery Girl recordings included Jeff Lynne (guitar, piano, bass, backing vocals), Tom Petty (acoustic guitar, backing vocals), Mike Campbell (guitar, bass, mandolin), Jim Keltner (drums), Howie Epstein (bass, backing vocals), and Benmont Tench (piano, organ, cheap strings). Contributing artists on the album include Barbara Orbison, Roy Orbison, Jr., Al Kooper, George Harrison, Bono, T Bone Burnett, Steve Cropper, The Memphis Horns, and more.
"I was just taken by how amazing this guy was. Just sitting, singing softly, sitting on the sofa with an acoustic guitar, his voice was unbelievable." remembers Tom Petty. "The music will live on, you know; it's very timeless music."
Mike Campbell added, "Any time I hear one of Roy's songs, wherever I am, I just stop and listen to it and he's there, you know. His artistry and his voice and his spirit and the depth of his soul is so unique and it just connects with you in such a deep way . He just had a way of getting into your heart."
"He was a real innovator, truly a great singer," said Bono. "The real rebels to me always had manners. Elvis, you know, and Roy, Roy was a true gentleman. And that's a scary thing in a man, do you know what I mean? A man that's so sure in himself that he can be polite."
The legendary guitarist Steve Cropper confided that, "I've only met basically three, maybe three-and-a-half, of what I call 'light bulbs' in my life. And what I mean by 'light bulbs' is they're the brightest one in the room and when they walk in the door every head turns. Every head. Not just a few, not some people still talking in the corner. It's like everyone stops what they are doing. Elvis Presley, Otis Redding and Roy Orbison. And I saw that happen to Bill Clinton. So, there you go and I've never seen that happen to anybody else, ever."LP1

Bidin' My TimeChris Hillman, whose credits include co-founding Rock and Roll Hall of Famers the Byrds, as well as the Flying Burrito Brothers, Manassas and Desert Rose Band, is truly one of the architects of American music. His newest solo work, Bidin' My Time, produced by Tom Petty and executive-produced by Herb Pedersen, captures a rarity: an icon who has never sounded better, making music with old friends for the sheer love of it.
Collaborators and admirers from Hillman's storied career appear throughout the record: Tom Petty; Hillman's Byrds bandmates David Crosby and Roger McGuinn; the Heartbreakers' Benmont Tench, Mike Campbell, and Steve Ferrone; Desert Rose Band's John Jorgenson, Pedersen, and Jay Dee Maness; premier upright bassist Mark Fain; singer/guitarist Josh JovÉ; and fiddler Gabe Witcher.
The album kicks off with a new recording of Pete Seeger's and Welsh poet Idris Davies' 'The Bells of Rhymney,' which the Byrds recorded for their debut. 'Here She Comes Again' was co-written by Hillman and McGuinn and, until now, had only been recorded on a live Byrds album in Australia. 'She Don't Care About Time' was written by Byrds co-founder Gene Clark, and was the original B-side to 'Turn! Turn! Turn!' Covers of the Everly Brothers' 'Walk Right Back' and Petty's 'Wildflowers' round out this understated yet undeniable masterpiece.

Way Out WestWhile he's too gracious to admit it himself, the Grammy-winning singer, songwriter and musician is living, breathing country music history. He's played alongside the masters, from Cash to Lester Flatt, who discovered him; been a worldwide ambassador for Nashville, Bakersfield and points in between; and safeguarded country's most valuable traditions and physical artifacts.
But most importantly, Stuart continues to record and release keenly relevant music, records that honor country's rich legacy while advancing it into the future. Way Out West, his 18th studio album, hits both of those marks. Produced by Mike Campbell (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers), the album is a cinematic tour-de-force, an exhilarating musical journey through the California desert that solidifies Stuart as a truly visionary artist.
When it comes to transforming country songs into tangible experience, Stuart has a secret weapon: his longtime band the Fabulous Superlatives, which NPR Music said could "melt your heart with four-part harmonies, rock your bones with honky tonk, and dazzle you with picking worthy of their name,". Made up of guitarist Kenny Vaughan, drummer Harry Stinson and new member, bassist Chris Scruggs, the Superlatives are an extension of Stuart himself. The Superlatives are missionaries, they're fighting partners. They're my Buckaroos, my Tennessee Three, my Strangers. They're my legacy band and have been since Day One, says Stuart.
I would play this record for Hank Williams, Merle Haggard or Ernest Hemingway and never bat an eye, says Stuart. There's something in there that would entertain each of them.1. Desert Prayer - Part I

Nude Beach IIGrowing up in the bucolic waterfront village of Northport, NY, Chuck Betz, Ryan Naideau and Jimmy Shelton played punk rock together since high school, in a succession of bands more than happy to set up at any house party, BBQ or makeshift venue that would have them. The familiar strain of classic rock is the go-to sound on the North Shore of Long Island, but they lived in an alternate universe where Ryan convinced his parents to let him turn the family basement into an occasional all-ages show space, hosting touring groups, and rounding out the bill with whatever band he and his friends were in at the time.
Fast forward to 2008, the boys had based themselves in Brooklyn and Nude Beach was born; the group slowly integrated themselves into the local DIY community, performing in dive bars and warehouse lofts, often several times a week, playing more than 100 shows in less than four years together. They self-released cassettes and vinyl LPs, they booked their own tours, and played in infinite side-projects and spin-off bands at every punk venue in North Brooklyn and beyond.
But while Nude Beach is very much a part of the Brooklyn DIY scene, it's always been more in spirit than in sound; sure, they're as beer-soaked, overdriven and raw as any group around, yet as hard as they've tried to ignore it, the trio could never quite shake the rock & roll of Tom Petty and Bruce Springsteen which sound-tracked their Long Island youth, and battered vinyl from the Byrds, the Replacements and the Jam sits side by side in their record collections with the hardcore and indie LPs and 7"s that brought the friends together in the first place.
In an increasingly fractured music scene, Chuck, Ryan and Jimmy play against fashion and deliver straight up rock & roll, and moreover, they do it better than anyone has in a long time. They've got the songs, they've got the sound, and they've got the fuck-all attitude that just can't be faked. Nude Beach will rock you if you let them. Turns out it's still more fun than just about anything else going on. Just check out their most recent full-length, II, if you don't believe us!1. Radio

Onward And SidewaysCleveland born, songwriter/performer Joshua Radin has earned a loyal following for his wistful meditations and hit songs. His rootsy-pop track, "I'd Rather Be With You" from Simple Times topped the iTunes album chart at #1 and hit 'top 10' in ten different countries. The hushed, emotionally raw "Winter" and Closer from his 2006 album, We Were Here received a four-star review in Rolling Stone Magazine. Radin's compositions have a proven track record having been sound-tracked on shows like Grey's Anatomy, American Idol and House. His songs have been used more than 100 times in various films and television shows making him a 'behind the scenes' artist whose music is heard most everywhere.
In 2008, Ellen DeGeneres asked Joshua to perform at her wedding. Radin said, "I played six of my songs and Ellen and Portia just sat right in front of me looking at each other, crying, and looking at me. I actually teared up a little-that's never happened to me before."
Live performances have always been Radin's lifeblood. After stints as a screenwriter in New York and as an inner-city art teacher in Chicago, he moved to Southern California to test the waters as a musician. "More than drawing, I taught those kids in Chicago a general perspective of the world-looking at something and not being overwhelmed. And it's how I've always looked at life," he says. "I've always wanted to wake up every day and have the opportunity to be creative, to express what's going on in my head and heart, and to be able to connect with the world in that way. I may have started playing music later in life than my peers, but I love living with the idea that it's never too late."
When his father gave him a guitar on a whim for his birthday, Radin taught himself how to play. Soon after, in 2004, he wrote his first song, "Winter," about a fractured relationship with his longtime girlfriend. The song so moved his college friend Zach Braff, that the actor passed it along to a producer on his TV show, Scrubs. Three weeks later, it was played on the show. Buzz from the Scrubs show was fast and furious, crashing the NBC site and winning Radin thousands of new fans. Afterward, he worked hard to build a grassroots movement on social-media sites and continued to build his fan base.
For various albums, Radin has recruited 'dream teams' of musicians to enhance his sounds. Among them: pianist Benmont Tench (Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers), drummer Jim Keltner (Bob Dylan, John Lennon), and string arranger Jimmie Haskell (Simon and Garfunkel). Joshua has sold over two and a half million singles and over 700,000 full-length albums.
In 2015, Radin releases his sixth studio album, "Onward and Sideways." His first single, "Beautiful Day" features a duet with American, singer songwriter Sheryl Crow.1. We'll Keep Running Forever

ThunderpussyWhat if Thor's Hammer of the Gods from "Immigrant Song" landed in the hands of four wise, willful, and wild women? Well, it would sound something like Thunderpussy.
The quartet-Molly Sides [vocals], Whitney Petty [guitar], Leah Julius [bass], and Ruby Dunphy [drums]-do the most rock 'n' roll thing possible and quite literally fuck up every rock 'n' roll stereotype you know to be true, piercing the halls of Valhalla in the process. Think of it like an inverse Frank Frazetta painting where it's the Amazonian siren wielding all of the world's power instead of Conan (he's on the sidelines in awe). More simply, instead of Page and Plant, Perry and Tyler, and Jagger and Richards, you get Molly and Whitney. Known for earth shattering pipes, heart-stopping performance art, and a propensity to literally writhe through a crowd, Molly is the consummate ideal front-person-bold, brilliant, brazen, and beautiful. At her righthand, you've got Whitney as the ultimate 21st century axe-slinger-cool, collected, and crazy on that fretboard. Rounding out the fray, Leah and Ruby cook up the tightest rhythm section this side of Cream (no kidding).
So, what is it that turned the Seattle-based group into a quiet phenomenon with the endorsement of Rolling Stone and Pearl Jam guitarist Mike McCready as well as a string of already legendary performances under their high-waisted belts (we're looking at you, Sasquatch)? It'd be too easy to say it's the power of the P----
Whitney steps in, "People talk about that magic. There's some voodoo happening between Molly and I, which is like a cosmic connection. She has this power. Somehow, I'm under her spell when we're performing-we all are."
"The truth is, I feel the same way about Whitney, Leah, and Ruby," smiles Molly. "We're all in this together."
That unity drives the band's forthcoming full-length debut Thunderpussy [Stardog Records/Republic Records] produced by Sylvia Massy. The lead single Speed Queen begins with a revving engine and arena-size percussion before snapping into a muscular and majestic riff and vocal proclamation, "Long live the Speed Queen."
"The 'Speed Queen' is this mythic and magical woman who rides a motorcycle and travels around the country," explains Whitney. "Nobody knows too much about where she came from or where she's going, but she changes everyone she meets because she's that powerful. I was thinking of Molly when I wrote it."
Its companion track "Badlands" evokes bluesy Zeppelin-style mysticism with a fury that certainly wouldn't be out of place on Aerosmith's Rocks-but is completely at home on Speed Queen.
"It nods to that classic Terrence Malick movie Badlands with Martin Sheen and Sissy Spacek," adds Molly. "It's an on-the-run love song between two outlaws."
Among its arsenal, Thunderpussy also boasts a song produced by McCready "Velvet Noose." Everything comes together into one cohesive and classic vision of rock music recharged, reinvigorated, and resurrected in what can only be described as a diamond in the muff: Thunderpussy.
"Being a lover of rock 'n' roll music for my whole life, you either have it, or you don't," Whitney leaves off. "If you find it, cultivate it, treat it like a wild animal, and tame that raw energy, but not too much. That's what this is."1. Speed Queen

The late Nashville songwriter Harlan Howard famously defined the ingredients of a great song as three chords and the truth. Every songwriter knows three chords, but laying bare the truth? Now that can be an altogether trickier affair. In January of 2012, The Gaslight Anthem piled into their old tour van and headed across the New Jersey state line for a 14 hour road trip to Nashville on their own quest for the truth. Their destination was 2806 Azalea Place, Nashville, Blackbird Studio, where the New Brunswick quartet had booked five weeks recording time with producer Brendan O'Brien (Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, AC/DC). Their mission: to reconnect with rock 'n' roll in its most feral, pure, stripped-raw form.
Brian Fallon was thirteen years old when he discovered The Clash's self-titled debut album in the racks of Sound Effects Records in Hackettstown, New Jersey: the owner of the store promised the young teenager that the record would change his life. He wasn't wrong. But there was a time, not so very long ago, when The Gaslight's Anthem frontman had grown weary of the sound of electric guitars. After three albums of soulful, impassioned, hearts-on-fire punk rock, Sink Or Swim (2007), The '59 Sound (2008) and American Slang (2010), Fallon needed a change of pace, a change of scenery.
And so, in January of 2011, together with TGA guitar tech Ian Perkins, he formed The Horrible Crowes, a darkly melancholic side-project inspired by his love of The Afghan Whigs, Tom Waits and PJ Harvey. After the band's acclaimed debut album Elsie dropped in September, Fallon joined fellow punk rock troubadours Chuck Ragan, Dan Andriano (Alkaline Trio) and Dave Hause (The Loved Ones) on the acoustic Revival Tour, airing stripped-down versions of Gaslight Anthem and Horrible Crowes songs to packed rooms across Europe. And then he returned home to New Jersey and Gaslight, re-energized, renewed and ready to make a full-tilt rock 'n' roll record again.
After six weeks of that there's nothing you want to hear more than a Marshall stack turned all the way up, he says with a laugh. The result is Handwritten, the most committed, affecting and compelling album of The Gaslight Anthem's career to date. Introduced by muscular lead-off single 45, which received it's world premiere on BBC Radio 1 as Zane Lowe's Hottest Record In The World on April 30, it finds the Jersey boys in inspired form, decanting '60's soul, '70's stadium rock, '80s hardcore and '90's grunge into eleven white-knuckle, blue-collar everyman anthems. Fallon likens its incandescent electrical storms to Tom Petty songs (being) played by Pearl Jam. Put more simply, it's a supercharged American rock 'n' roll classic.
We've taken everything we do and gone to 10 with it, explains Fallon. This is definitely the Gaslight Anthem record I would want next, if I were a fan. American Slang was cool, but this sounds like a band who has plugged back into the electric socket again. I think these songs are the closest thing to what we should have always sounded like, adds guitarist Alex Rosamilia. We just hadn't figured out yet how to play it right.
Fallon credits Brendan O'Brien for capturing the raw, live-off-the-floor feel of Handwritten. Fine-tuned in the living room of the small rental house the band shared in Nashville, its eleven tracks were recorded with the whole band eyeball-to-eyeball in one room at Blackbird, vibing off one another's energy. The electricity in the recordings is tangible. Brendan taught us a ton about songwriting and recording as a band, Fallon notes. The whole experience was amazing. That's the guy that recorded Pearl Jam, that's the guy that recorded Bruce Springsteen, that's the guy that did Rage Against The Machine; and that's the guy you want to say 'It's good', because when he says it's good, that's when it's good.
The purity of O'Brien's stark, unadorned recording process served to inspire Fallon's approach to the lyrical themes on Handwritten too. Where previous Gaslight Anthem albums evoked deathless images of Americana, all Cadillacs, jukeboxes, Ferris wheels and wistful, romanticized vignettes of star-struck lovers disappearing into the great wide open, Handwritten is rooted in Fallon's own experiences, lending the record a more immediate, emotional edge. Now I am no angel but I got nothing to hide, the singer rasps on the brooding grunge-noir of Too Much Blood. Can you say the same thing for yourself tonight?
It's supposed to be a letter to whoever is listening, says Fallon. Like, this is what we got beat up by and maybe you did too. There's so many things that I just never wrote about, real personal stuff that I just wasn't ready to talk about yet. Now I think being an adult I have some reflection on it. We wanted to look back on the music that we first found when we were in high school. The truth is, if you're my age, you were listening to Peal Jam and Nirvana and Soundgarden. When that music came out these were guys that we could relate to. They weren't the biggest bands in the world by accident.
And it's no accident either that with Handwritten, the Gaslight Anthem themselves sound built to take on the world. After years paying their dues in the punk rock underground, their major label debut is assuredly the work of a young band who know their time is now. And their laidback, charismatic frontman is ready. I've always been ready for arenas, Fallon smiles. I've just been waiting for them to catch up to me. I want to play Giant Stadium, I always wanted to be a major label, major league band. If I can be the kid that's on the cover of Time magazine, I'll take it. And I'll buy you a drink while I'm at it.1. 45

Tyler Bryant And The ShakedownA Band On The Verge Of Rock N Roll Greatness!
After carving out a fervent fan base and drawing widespread critical applause with their heady, high-voltage brand of guitar-driven rock, shooting from both hip and heart, Nashville's Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown find themselves at the epicenter of an advanced rock 'n' roll adventure that continues to take them around the world, appearing at some of the biggest venues along the way
Starting with a guest spot on AC/DC's 'Rock or Bust' World Tour in 2016, the quartet - Caleb Crosby on drums, Noah Denney on bass and backing vocals, Graham Whitford on guitar and Texas-born Tyler himself on vocals and guitar, a musician immersed in blues music from an early age - have continued to share events and stages with some of rock's most legendary names, including Guns N' Roses, Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers, Aerosmith, Deep Purple and ZZ Top.
At the same time as projecting their music into stadiums, Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown - The Shakedown to friends and fans - have continued to build their name and reputation as a headline act, and indeed it was backstage after a sold-out, bill-topping show in London (June 2017) that the band signed their new deal with Snakefarm Records - the most immediate and exciting result being an 11-track, self-titled studio album set to be the label's inaugural release, with November 3rd locked in as the day of the launch
"So many great things have happened over the past few months," exclaims Caleb, "and it's all just so surreal. I remember seeing that Guns N' Roses were playing two stadium shows in London on June 16th and 17th earlier this year, which are birthdays for Noah and myself, back to back, and I said wouldn't it be amazing if we appeared on both of those shows and we did!"
Rewinding back to 2008, Tyler moved to Nashville by himself at the ripe age of 17 to write songs and form a band. It was here he met Caleb, and together they put together what would become The Shakedown
"The instant we started playing, I knew there was something special," reflects Caleb. "We played our first show a week later and haven't stopped since!"
The next addition to the ranks was Graham Whitford, a young guitarist from Boston, Massachusetts. Introduced to Tyler as the guy who could put him out of a job, it was clear from the start that Whitford was a force to be reckoned with. As soon as Tyler heard him play, he asked him to uproot and move to Nashville to join the band.
All that was needed now was the right bassist: enter Noah Denney, who instantly added a whole new dimension to The Shakedown's sound. As Tyler recalls, "his bass sound scared me and he brought an edge and an attitude to the band that we didn't even know we needed."
2013's 'Wild Child' album announced the quartet's arrival with a bang as they logged time on the road with the likes of Aerosmith, Jeff Beck & ZZ Top, while receiving the endorsement of Guitar World, Rolling Stone, Los Angeles Times, Nylon, Interview Magazine and Paste. Taking over TV, they lit up the stage at both Jimmy Kimmel LIVE! and AXS Live.
Following the release of 'The Wayside' EP (2015, produced by Grammy Award winner Vance Powell), the boys crisscrossed the country alongside Billy Gibbons & AC/DC on that celebrated 2016 run. April 2017 found them without a label and only a month out from joining Guns N' Roses on a European tour
"We had just decided to self-produce a record completely on our own," says Tyler. "I'll never forget driving home that morning and getting a call from our manager saying, 'You wanna go back to Europe with Guns N Roses?' That was a great kick-start to the first day of tracking."
So they hunkered down and set about writing & recording their second full-length album, with John Fields (Soul Asylum, Paul Westerberg) coming on board to handle the mix. Blending a sense of history with a youthful, energetic heartbeat, this anticipated outing features a host of brand new tracks, some of which have become staples of the live set. It also stands as the start of a relationship with the newly-launched Snakefarm label.
Housed within the global infrastructure of Spinefarm Records (a UMG label), the Snakefarm brand will provide a targeted home for international artists, both established and new, from the increasingly buoyant roots rock world - music based on authenticity and emotion, under-pinned by core values and beliefs.
In this respect, Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown - who can lay claim to a fast-growing international presence, with major UK festivals such as Download, Ramblin' Man and British Summer Time already under their belt, alongside headline shows plus guest appearances with Nashville neighbors The Cadillac Three - are a flagship representation; what's more, in 'Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown' they've delivered a genuine genre-defying labour of love, a varied and infectious statement shot through with passion, pride and a welcome dash of glamour.
"This is the definitive Shakedown record as of now, and that's why we decided it should be self-titled," explains a fired-up Tyler. "It's the definitive Shakedown record due to the fact there were no other cooks in the kitchen. We put so much energy into writing and recording each song. It's not just a guitar album; it's a song album, and I'm proud to hang my hat on this one."
The first single / video, 'Heartland', introduces Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown with a one-two punch of gritty guitars and soulful vocals before slipping into a hypnotic bridge punctuated by airy clean guitars. Tyler sings, "There's a slow beat in the heartland, going down in the quicksand, stack 'em up and watch the cards fall, if it happens to one, then it happens to all".
"It's no secret that there's crazy stuff going on all over the world right now. There's madness all around and people are constantly picking sides. Every night when the Shakedown takes the stage, I'm amazed that music brings people together. Nobody is thinking about what side they're on when they're singing at the top of their lungs next to a complete stranger. I thought maybe through music I could remind myself and our TBSD family that when one person falls, the rest of us do, too. I wanna get together with a bunch of folks and sing that sentiment because it's one I strongly believe in.
Elsewhere, 'Backfire' struts along on a stomping drum groove driven by thick distortion with lyrics "about pulling the short end of the straw and feeling vengeful". Then there's 'Aftershock'. Hinging on hummable riffing, the track simmers at a steady swamp crawl before the Sabbathian refrain.
"That's a tune about feeling the effects of a situation long after it's come and gone.
As Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown spend 2017 lighting up stages with the likes of Guns N' Roses (again), The Who & Alice Cooper - as well as making their first appearance at Rock In Rio - this new album sees them fully realize their vision with a sound that resounds above the bleachers, plus a collective desire to keep the entertainment flag fully unfurled
"I want people to put this on and literally escape," Tyler leaves off. "I hope they feel free. That's what rock 'n' roll makes me feel. You don't have to think about your bills or any of the other things that have the power to bring you down when you've got your fist up in the air, your eyes closed and you're lost in the music. Angus Young told me, 'You've got to make the audience think you're taking them on a journey, and they'll go with you. If you believe it, they will too'. I believe it with this record."1. Heartland

SuperchunkThe remastered LP features updated artwork and includes an 11 × 17 replica of an early Chunk show flyer, with photos and notes from the band on the reverse.
Mac shared his memories of these early days of Superchunk: When I listen to our first album now, other than cringing at some clams and the vocals and the juvenile attitude of the whole thing what was I angry about? You'll have to ask 21-year-old me because in my memory, we were having fun. I hear the accumulation of our influences, which I suppose is normal for a first album-weaving all the things you loved up to that point into your own first thing. The Buzzcocks, HÜsker DÜ, Dinosaur Jr, and Sonic Youth are all right there and what we were listening to. Hearing this record recently, though, I was surprised at how southern some of it sounds, and I think the influence of bands like Drivin' n' Cryin' and of course R.E.M. is there under the fuzz. I remember thinking the solo 4-track demo of Slack Motherfucker sounded like Tom Petty. I can't find it now to prove it to you, but take my word for it. I was living in NYC finishing school when we made this record, so rehearsals and recording were all rushed. I'm surprised we knew this many songs well enough to record them. Twenty-seven years later, we still play at least three or four of these songs live occasionally (one of them all the time ), which says something good about a few of the songs, anyway! We got so much better as a band, and as songwriters, that it's hard to even see this as any kind of template for what Superchunk would eventually be, but it's definitely where we were at in 1989/90.1. Highway QueenNikki Lane's remarkably dazzling third album,
Highway Queen, sees the
young Nashville rebel emerge as one of country and
rock's most gifted songwriters. Produced by Lane
and fellow singer-songwriter Jonathan Tyler, and
recorded in Denton, Texas and Nashville, Tennessee,
Highway Queen is an emotional tour-de-force.
Blending potent lyrics, unbridled blues guitars and
vintage Sixties country-pop swagger, Lane's new music
will resonate as easily with Black Keys and Lana
Del Rey fans as those of Neil Young and Tom Petty.
Highway Queen starts with the whiskey-soaked
restlessness of "700,000 Rednecks," a rowdy call to
action, and ends on the profoundly raw "Forever
Lasts Forever," where Lane belts freely, mourning
a failed marriage - the "lighter shade of skin" left
behind from her wedding ring. Lane's journey to
heartbreak takes exquisite turns. "Companion" is
pure Everly Brothers' dreaminess ("I would spend a
lifetime/ Playing catch you if I can"). Elsewhere, she
goes on a Vegas bender on the rollicking "Jackpot,"
fights last-call blues ("Foolish Heart") and tosses
off brazen one-liners at a backroom piano ("Big
Lane, a Greenville, South Carolina native, is a unique
songwriter who didn't take the traditional country
artist path. Her backwoods roots are undercut by
her chosen career as a fashion entrepreneur (she's
the owner of vintage clothing boutique High Class
Hillbilly) who has lived - and been heartbroken
in - Los Angeles, New York and Nashville. So it's no
surprise that her music seamlessly crosses musical
genres with lyrics steeped in the doomed perseverance
only a true dark horse romantic knows.
Lane's rapid rise in music is thanks to the fervent critical
acclaim of her debut record Walk of Shame
and 2014's Dan Auerbach-produced All Or
Nothin'. With Highway Queen, 2017 is poised
to be Lane's major mainstream breakthrough. So as

Middle BrotherMiddle Brother (Taylor Goldsmith of Dawes, John McCauley of Deer Tick and Matthew Vasquez of Delta Spirit) played their first show at 2010's SXSW, a tiny late-night unannounced event under the moniker MG&V. Other than recording the album and rehearsing once, they had never played the songs live. The audience (and the mob of onlookers crammed in the doorways and windows) were treated to an impossible-to-forget set by a band of musical comrades who seemed genuinely surprised by the fire that was ignited on stage. It was a rollicking and boisterous show that could have fallen apart at any moment and instead centrifuged into melodic and harmonic brilliance. What held it together was each member's sense of song and performance, a perfect, intuitive balance of craft and feel, equal parts playful and earnest.
In a time when synthesizers and laptops are taking over stages, Goldsmith, McCauley and Vasquez are leading the pack of young rock songwriters who strive to carry on the tradition of figures such as Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Warren Zevon and Tom Petty. Middle Brother came together in mid-2009 when the three song-smiths realized, after several on-stage collaborations, that they shared a unique vision and wanted to take it one step further, into the studio. Their songs are anthemic, soulful, passionate and confessional.
The 12 tracks on Middle Brother are the result of their off-the-cuff yet diligent workshop experience. The songs are world-class, the performances raw and immediate as each member pushed the other to bring the best of what they do to the proceedings. The record captures a potent moment in time for these three burgeoning songwriting stars who are just beginning to feel the real power in their respective talents. The members of Middle Brother are confident, but not resolute and stuck. They are willing to explore and are open to each others ideas as they work towards the common ideal of the redemptive power of the song.1. Daydreaming

Mudcrutch Extended Play Live EP (With CD) (Out Of Stock)More than 30 years after Tom Petty co-founded the pre-Heartbreakers Mudcrutch, the band finally issued its debut album this spring and the self-titled record debuted at #8 and won widespread critical acclaim. The Mudcrutch Extended Play Live EP features live renditions of three songs from the earlier album, plus a cover of Jerry Lee Lewis classic, High School Confidential.
Pettys first band, The Sundowners, changed their name to The Epics and then to Mudcrutch around 1970. Mudcrutch became the house band at Dubs Diner in hometown Gainesville, FL, before the group moved to Hollywood in search of a record deal. In summer 2007, Petty reunited Mudcrutch, consisting of himself, Heartbreakers Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench, original member Tom Leadon, and Randall Marsh, who joined when Mudcrutch first went to Los Angeles.

Kicking The Television: Live In Chicago (Box Set) (Out Of Stock)Recorded over four nights in May at The Vic Theatre in Chicago, we finally get a live Wilco album. 'It's really the best it's ever felt,' said Jeff Tweedy, 'I would say at this point, I don't think I've ever been in a band that's felt this connected and unified with this collective vision.' To document that collective vision that band called upon veteran mixing engineer Jim Scott (Tom Petty, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Dave Matthews, Johnny Cash) to capture the energy, excitement, clarity and musicality that has earned Wilco continued praise for their live shows around the world. Bolstered by experimental guitarist Nels Cline and multi-instrumentalist Pat Sansone, Wilco can now move effortlessly from soaring rock anthems like 'Shot in the Arm' to dynamic dazzlers like 'Hummingbird' and 'Muzzle of Bees.' There is a welcoming delicacy that adds beauty to Jeff Tweedy's songs and the late-night ballads. One of America's greatest bands has never sounded better.1. Misunderstood

Mojo (Out Of Stock)Some time in the last few years Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers took a left turn. Maybe it was when Petty woke up in the night with the idea of reuniting his first band, Mudcrutch, to cut the album they never got a chance to make back in the early 70s. Maybe it was when the Heartbreakers assembled the mammoth multi-disc The Live Anthology, which detailed thirty years of concerts. Maybe it was when they gave all their home movies, outtakes and live footage to director Peter Bogdanovich to create the Grammy-winning four-hour career documentary Runnin' Down A Dream. There have been side projects and experiments since the band last went into the studio to cut a new Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers album. With Mojo, they have taken their recent freedom and experimentation to heart. They have gone off the reservation and all signs indicate they aren't coming back.
The first thing that hits you about Mojo is that the spirit of the Mudcrutch sessions has carried on with the Heartbreakers. This is the sound of a band playing together in a room, not a studio, facing each other, all singing and playing at the same time. The music is alive, with no overdubs or studio trickery. What you hear is what they created on the spot at that time.
Tom Petty says, With this album, I want to show other people what I hear with the band. Mojo is where the band lives when it's playing for itself.
As for the songs, Mojo showcases a wide variety of American music from rock n' roll to country and both electric and acoustic blues. And then there are the images in Petty's lyrics which slip in on the melodies and set up a home in your head: The barefoot girl in the high grass chewing on a stick of sugar cane, the run-in with the law that begins when a carload of buddies decide to party with the motel maids, and the hilariously audacious idea of opening an album with an electric blues rocker about Thomas Jefferson's love affair with Sally Hemings.
Mojo has juice and guts but it also has some sweet balladry for the slow dancers and even a wacked-out reggae number that is unlike anything that the Heartbreakers have done before. It's the kind of album nobody's supposed to be able to make anymore. It got here just in time.LP 1
