    History Of Hostility

History Of Hostility is a nine-track Pantera primer that includes some of the band's most legendary tracks from all five studio albums on Vinyl.

Pantera was an American heavy metal band from Arlington, Texas. The group was formed in 1981 by the Abbott brothers - drummer Vinnie Paul and guitarist Dimebag Darrell - along with vocalist Terry Glaze. Bassist Rex Brown joined the band the following year, replacing the original unofficial bass guitarist Tommy D. Bradford. Having started as a glam metal band, Pantera released four albums during the 1980s. Looking for a new and heavier sound, Pantera replaced Glaze with Phil Anselmo in 1986. With its fifth album, 1990's Cowboys from Hell, Pantera introduced a groove metal sound. The sixth album, 1992's Vulgar Display of Power, exhibited even heavier sound. Far Beyond Driven (1994) debuted at number one on the Billboard 200.

    Cowboys From Hell

Pantera's 1990 major label debut Cowboys From Hell was as heavy as anything of its day and it served as both the band's breakthrough and a great influence on the state of metal music. Featuring the guitar virtuosity of Dimebag Darrell and the vocal ferocity of Phil Anselmo front and center, Cowboys From Hell turned Pantera into the preeminent metal band of the early '90s and put the remnants of the '80s metal scene to rest. Highlights include Cemetery Gates, Psycho Holiday, Primal Concrete Sledge and the title track.

    The Great Southern Trendkill

The 8th studio album by Pantera, originally released in 1996, reached number 4 on the Billboard 200 chart. Due to tension among the bandmembers, Phil Anselmo recorded the vocals alone at Trent Reznor's Nothing Studios in New Orleans while the rest of the group recorded at Chasin Jason Studios in Dallas, Texas.

The Great Southern Trendkill features some of the fastest tempos and most down-tuned guitars that the band ever recorded. It also has a more experimental nature to its songs, such as the acoustic guitar and keyboard-laden Suicide Note Pt. I.

Unlike Pantera's first three major label albums, the vocals are often double tracked and layered to create a more demonic effect. An example of this can be heard in the chorus of 13 Steps to Nowhere, when Phil Anselmo's singing voice is backed up by high pitched screaming, done by Seth Putnam.

    Far Beyond Driven

By the time Pantera released 1994's Far Beyond Driven, they were the most popular metal band on the planet, and as did its predecessor, Vulgar Display of Power, the album shot straight to the top of the Billboard charts. Amazingly enough, Far Beyond Driven features an even heavier and more extreme sound than on previous releases due to Dimebag Darrell's down-tuned and heavier sludgy guitar playing and Phil Anselmo's increasingly self-biographical lyrics. Highlights include I'm Broken, Becoming, Shedding Skin and Slaughtered.

Down II: A Bustle in Your Hedgerow

This was Down's first album in seven years since the release of NOLA, the longest gap between the band's Four studio albums to date. Since Down was a supergroup, the band went on hiatus in 1996 so that members could focus on their main bands (namely Eyehategod, Corrosion of Conformity, Crowbar and Pantera). Down reformed in 1999 with Pantera bassist Rex Brown replacing Todd Strange. The band wanted the album to have a bluesy feel, so they moved into Phil Anselmo's barn, dubbed Nödferatu's Lair, in southern Louisiana where they lived and recorded the album in 28 days without anyone leaving the house.

    Vulgar Display Of Power

1992's Vulgar Display of Power is arguably the heaviest album ever to debut at # 1 on the Billboard charts and it proved that heavy metal still had its place in the era of alternative rock. True to its title, Vulgar Display of Power is a raw and unrelenting depiction of rage and hostility, brought to a head by the pummeling guitar riffs of Dimebag Darrell and the militaristic snarl of Phil Anselmo. Songs like Fucking Hostile, Walk, This Love and Mouth for War remain some of the most popular songs in Pantera's impressive arsenal.

    Melk En Honing

Author & Punisher s newest album entitled MELK EN HONING , produced by Phil Anselmo (Pantera, Down, Superjoint Ritual, and more) due out Summer 2015, is melange of his various drone machinery together, multiple physical rhythm machines, some synth and the new electromechanical masks that began to appear in A&P performances across the U.S. and Europe in 2014. After 2 years of heavy touring and festival appearances, the goal with this album became to try and capture the live dissonant power of the A&P experience. The combination of Anselmo s persistence, expertise and some of Shone s new experimentation with various vocal devices, this is a vocal-prominent, bass heavy album that combines A&P's signature elusive drone sequences and hard hitting rhythms with unexpected terrains of melody and musicality that sustain Shone's reputation as an unorthodox innovator in a class all of his own.

Abandoning the typical guitar and drums set up, Author & Punisher makes aggressive rhythmic and oscillatory soundscapes from his own custom fabricated and precision machinery. Designed by Shone himself, the instruments of Author & Punisher are custom devices that begin mostly as big chunks of aluminum and steel that are worked into all manners of wheels, throttles, pedals, and masks to manipulate sound live. Shone s electromechanical arsenal and physical approach to live production become to heavy music what Survival Research Laboratories was to live, unscripted performance art. Pitchfork styled him immediate but mysterious, Stereogum described his chilling, unrecognizable form, and NPR hails him as a thrill [who] fires on all cylinders.

    Nola

NOLA was written mainly by Phil Anselmo and Pepper Keenan between 1990 and 1995. Throughout 1991 to 1993 the band released three demos, a three-track demo (1991), a four-track demo (1992) and a ten-track demo (1993). Originally the band made the three-track demo for underground trading. The demo featured the tracks Losing All, Temptations Wings and Bury Me in Smoke. In an effort to build a fan base, the band would ask heavy metal fans if they had ever heard of this band, Down and hand them copies of the tape without telling the person that they were in the band. In 1992 the band recorded a second demo, this time featuring the same track listing as the original but with an intro. In 1993 the band made the Demo Collection 1992 - 1993 which is a ten-track demo featuring all the songs that would make the album cut except Rehab, Pray for the Locust and Underneath Everything. Anselmo solely wrote only three songs on the album (Hail the Leaf, Pray for the Locust and Pillars of Eternity). Eventually, the original demo tape was distributed throughout the United States and Down played a small concert in its home town. A record executive from Elektra Records was attending the show. When he found out who the members of the band were, he signed Down to a recording contract. The band began recording the album in the summer of 1994 at the Ultrasonic Studios, New Orleans, Louisiana and completed the recording sessions by January 1995.

    Dead Set

Long awatied 2nd studio album. Hailing from Melbourne, the band released their debut album Bite Your Head Off in 2012, which gained high praise for its stand-out musical performance layered with black humour and nowadays rare, yet unique creativity. KING PARROT's upcoming new album was recorded by Phil Anselmo (Pantera, Down) in Nodferatu's Lair Studio and is set to land this spring via: Agonia Records in Europe, Housecore Records in North America and Rocket/EVP in Australia.

Emerging through the baptism of fire of the Australian metal scene, KING PARROT have pillaged their way to international recognition in a short period since 2011. Drawing influence primarily from the thrash, grind, hardcore and punk scenes of the 80's and 90's, a new sound was created fusing those styles and attitudes with a fresh approach that encapsulates their aggression, humour and intensity seamlessly.

The debut album Bite Your Head Off was picked up by Candlelight Records in 2013 for worldwide release. Five videos from their debut album have been produced including Shit on the Liver; a finalist in the Australian Music Video Awards and the bands take on the legendary horror film The Shining for the track Dead End.

    Sever The Wicked Hand

    Limited Edition

This US quartet, formed in 1989, emerged in the early 90s as one of the leading lights of the New Orleans extreme metal scene, purveying a sound that blended Black Sabbath/Saint Vitus-styled heaviness with hardcore aggression. Kirk Windstein (b. 14 April 1965, Wiltshire, England; vocals/guitar), Todd Strange (b. 1966, USA; bass) Kevin Noonan (guitar) and Craig Nunenmacher (drums) made their debut in 1991 with the dark and doom-laden Obedience Thru Suffering, after which Noonan was replaced by Matt Thomas, a former bandmate of Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo in Razor White. Anselmo, an old friend who collaborates with Windstein on side-projects such as Down and Both Legs Broken, helped to refine and improve the band`s sound with his sympathetic production on Crowbar, which included a brutally heavy interpretation of Led Zeppelin`s `No Quarter`, adapted stylishly to the Crowbar sound.
The band was well received on tour with Paradise Lost in the UK and Pantera in the USA, and released the Live +1 EP (which was packaged with Crowbar in the UK) before returning to the studio with the stated intention of making Crowbar sound `like Jethro Tull`. In 1995, Eyehategod guitarist Jimmy Bower (b. 1966, USA), who had played with the original line-up in 1989, was recruited as the band`s new drummer, although Time Heals Nothing was recorded with Nunenmacher. True to form and promise, it provided a thunderous blast of controlled aggression and dark melodicism. Guitarist Sammy Pierre Duet (ex-Acid Bath) joined in time to help record 1996`s Broken Glass.

Bower left following the release of the 1998 follow-up Odd Fellows Rest. He was replaced by Sid Montz on 2000`s Equilibrium, following which Strange retired from the music scene and Nunemacher departed the ranks for a second time. Subsequent albums have seen sole remaining founding member Windstein joined by an ever-changing cast list of personnel.

    Eyehategod (Out Of Stock)

Legendary New Orleans gods of sludge, excess and mayhem EYEHATEGOD release their new, self-titled album.

Mixed by Sanford Parker, Eyehategod will feature the final recordings of EYEHATEGOD drummer Joey LaCaze, who passed away last August of respiratory failure. He also suffered from severe long-term asthma. He has since been replaced by Aaron Hill, who comes by way of New Orleans' local acts MISSING MONUMENTS and MOUNTAIN OF WIZARD.

In a recent interview with NPR, EYEHATEGOD frontman Mike IX Williams stated about the band's forthcoming album: We started out the recording with Billy Anderson. He recorded the drums, bass and some guitar, but that was a mess. There was a documentary crew in there filming, and it was distracting away from our time recording. Jimmy [Bower, guitar] was having a couple problems at the time too, waiting for his kid to be born, so it was a weird time to be in the studio. We ended up using just Joey's drum tracks from Billy. He's awesome - I love him and there's no hard feelings, but we just wanted to finish it somewhere else. We got Steve Berrigan to come out to where I live two hours outside of NOLA, and redid the bass and the guitars. Phil Anselmo [PANTERA, DOWN] gave me some ideas for the vocals, like how we did the ARSON ANTHEM record; me and him work well together.

Asked if EYEHATEGOD ever considered giving up following Joey's passing, Mike said: It was never an option as far as I'm concerned. I don't think it was for anybody else either.

This all happened at the end of September, when we'd just gotten back from a six-week tour of Europe. He's had pretty bad asthma ever since I've known him, and in Europe he was having these weird sleep apnea things when he was sleeping. It was a breathing issue, a respiratory thing, but I don't know; I'm not a doctor. So when we got back, that's when he passed away, so there was a little bit of time in there when we had to think - 'We've got shows booked. What do we do?' We did have to cancel probably 50% of them, but we still just said, 'Let's keep going, that's what he would want us to do.' We'd even had conversations before, when Joey and I would talk, and he'd ask me, 'Who would you get to replace me?' Things like that, and just be honest with each other. He knew the band would keep going, and he wanted it to.

To me, it's just part of life; it's just the way things happen, what cards you're dealt, how life treats you.

We don't know how to give up. That's been the story of our entire career, our lives, even without the band. We just don't know when to quit. It's just a matter of moving forward.
