    Moondog

He was born Louis Hardin, but the world knew him as Moondog-and his avant-garde compositions influenced a generation of minimalist composers like Philip Glass and Steve Reich. Now, Moondog, The Viking of 6th Avenue's seminal 1969 album recorded with producer James William Guercio, will be reissued vinyl, its first pressing in over a decade. Featuring original symphonic and classically-inspired works (including material dedicated to Charlie Parker and Benny Goodman), Moondog is an album that must be heard to be believed.

    Philip Glass: Piano Works

Icelandic pianist Víkingur Ólafsson pays tribute to the master of minimal music, Philip Glass. Ólafsson was one of a handful of young pianists selected by Glass to perform all of his Etudes together in London, and the reviews were ecstatic. The Financial Times claimed, "Best of all was Ólafsson in the supersensitive stillness of Etude 5." In addition to the Etudes for solo piano, the album includes reworks of the originals for piano and string quartet. This recording is now available on vinyl.

Black & White Marbled Colored Vinyl

Directed by Josh Trank, and screenwriters Jeremy Slater and Simon Kinberg (X-Men: First Class, X-Men; Days of Future Past, Sherlock Holmes), The Fantastic Four is a contemporary reimagining of Marvel's first, and longest-running superhero team.

The Fantastic Four score developed from the inquisitiveness of the film's young protagonists. Working together with living legend Philip Glass, composer Marco Beltrami (Wolverine, Hellboy) explains, ''What we were trying to achieve musically was the spirit of curiosity and innocence. We were inspired by the film's scientific exploration from the point of view of these young characters, and how their curiosity develops into a position of power.''

    Solo Piano

With Solo Piano, Glass presents himself unplugged - no electronic keyboards or synthesizers, and no overdubs, either - just solo piano. Metamorphosis was written in 1988 and takes its name from a play based on Kafka's short story. Its second track, Metamorphosis Two, formed the basis of one of the main musical themes in the film The Hours. It is also the song that the American rock band Pearl Jam uses as their introduction music to concerts.

Mad Rush was written for the occasion of the Dalai Lama's first visit in New York City. Wichita Vortex Sutra is the result of a chance meeting between two long-time friends, Glass and poet Allen Ginsberg, in a bookstore in the East Village. 'We decided on the spot to do something together, reached for one of Allen's books, and chose the poem Wichita Vortex Sutra'.

    Minimalists

In the 1960s, something happened to classical music. A bold new American voice emerged, pushing away the intricate, atonal forms of the European avant-garde and drawing on the music that most people were actually listening to. The scene led to composers having bona fide hits (Reich's Music For 18 Musicians), and aiming to do so: Philip Glass's album 'Glassworks', which featured Façades, was created with the chief aim of appealing to a much wider audience. Glass added lyricism, power and brooding emotion to the minimalist sound, though he prefers to call his work 'repetitive structures.' You can trace a line from the pulsating, stripped-down sounds of Reich, Glass and Adams to the clarity and repetition of Kraftwerk, and on through just about every type of electronic music you could ever dance to.

This limited-edition LP celebrates the state of minimalism 50 years after the movement broke down barriers in classical music.

"'Adult Diversion' is a whimsical dream jam and brings "feel-good" to

    lyrics, a guitar-driven backbone, and a sun-drenched vibe..."

    -Pitchfork

Alvvays are two women, three men, a crate of C-86 tapes and a
love of jingle-jangle. Molly Rankin and Kerri MacLellan grew up
as next-door neighbours in Cape Breton, lifting fiddles and folk-songs. Heartbreaks of different shades soon entered their lives, as
did the music of Teenage Fanclub and Belle & Sebastian. Similar
noisy melancholy drifted over to Prince Edward Island, finding
Alec O'Hanley, Brian Murphy and Philip MacIsaac.

Convening in Toronto, the group have been making music since
since dusk or maybe dawn, when stars were appearing or fading
off. As a result, their debut self-titled album is both sun-splashed
and twilit -- nine songs concealing drunkenness, defeat and death
in tungsten-tinted pop that glitters like sea glass.

With needlepoint melody and verse, Rankin and O'Hanley's songs
were recorded at Chad VanGaalen's Yoko Eno studio and mixed
by Graham Walsh (Holy Fuck) and John Agnello (Sonic Youth,
Dinosaur Jr., kurt Vile). The resultant album is loud and clear and
    sure. Flood your ears.

    First Time On Vinyl

Orange Mountain is pleased to announce for the first time on vinyl Philip Glass's 1998 score to the 1931 film DRACULA starring Bela Lugosi. For his new score, Philip Glass tapped the all-star Kronos Quartet and wrote specifically for them. In the late-1990s Universal Pictures approached composer Philip Glass to compose a new score for one of its classic monster movies. Glass chose to compose a score for Tod Browning's 1931 Dracula because it never had an original score. He composed the work for string quartet to evoke an ancient sound and now almost 20 years later Glass and Kronos continue to perform the music live to film around the world. In the end Glass's music gave the film new life, perhaps adding something that had been missing before there was music: structure and pacing and above all a new sense of mystery and soul.

DRACULA album was originally available on Nonesuch in the late-1990s.

This is the first time DRACULA is available on vinyl.

Master Mix: Red Hot + Arthur Russell

Master Mix' embodies the genre-defying, experimental spirit that defined Russell's work. Living in the East Village from the '70s until his untimely death in 1992 at age 40 from AIDS-related causes, Russell moved effortlessly between the city's various music scenes, recording disco beats alongside Nicky Siano one night, and the next, crafting slow, haunting tracks in his apartment with his cello and idiosyncratic warbling voice. The New Yorker called his work "stranded between lands real and imagined: the street and the cornfield; the soft bohemian New York and the hard Studio 54 New York; the cheery bold strokes of pop and the liberating possibilities of abstract art." Through his collaborations, he earned the admiration of artists like Allen Ginsberg, David Byrne and Philip Glass, who said of Russell's music: "It does not submit to formula, but subverts the formula." The record features 26 tracks by more than 20 artists, including Hot Chip, Sufjan Stevens, Phosphorescent, Blood Orange, The Autumn Defense and Lonnie Holley, paying homage to Russell's boundless creativity and wide-ranging work, which swerved from electronic dance to folk to classical and resulted in what NPR hails as "catchy and hypnotic records that were far ahead of their time."

    Passages

Passages is a collaborative chamber music studio album co-composed by Ravi Shankar and Philip Glass, released in 1990. The album is a hybrid of Hindustani Classical music and Glass' distinct American minimal contemporary Classical style.

A collaboration between an avant-garde modern Classical composer and a traditional Indian/Hindi composer/performer seems pretty unlikely. However, Passages works splendidly. Shankar's smooth style fits nicely with Glass' dissonant orchestrations.

The album reached a peak position of number three on Billboard's Top World Music Albums chart. Recommended to fans of other minimalist composers such as John Cage, Steve Reich and Terry Riley.

Available On Vinyl For The First Time

Low Symphony, composed by Philip Glass in the spring of 1992, is based on the record Low by David Bowie and Brian Eno, first released in 1977. Glass took themes from three of the instrumentals on the original and, combining them with his own material, used them as the basis of three movements of the Low Symphony. Movement One comes from Subterraneans, Movement Two from Some Are, which was not featured on Bowie's original recording, and Movement Three from Warszawa.

The Low Symphony was performed by the Brooklyn Philharmonic orchestra under the batons of Dennis Russell Davies, principal conductor, and Karen Kamensek, assistant conductor. Philip Glass allowed ideas of Bowie and Brian Eno, who worked together on Low, to influence how he worked on the music, leading to surprising musical conclusions and becoming a real collaboration between the music of all three maestros. This is the first ever vinyl issue of Low Symphony!

Simon Bookish is the pseudonym of London-based composer Leo Chadburn, who took part in the releases of Leafcutter John, Patrick Wolf, and Saint Etienne. An unpredictable and dramatic big band song cycle about science and information, Everything/Everything is a new departure for this artist, as it does away with digital synthesizers, in favor of live instruments. Though it's his most pop-oriented release to date, it finds room for moments of racing Philip Glass minimalism, lopsided disco, expressionist cabaret, and even an eerie ambient interlude.

    Struggle For Pleasure

Classical by Music On Vinyl proudly presents its first release. Wim Mertens has released Struggle For Pleasure in 1983 under the group name Soft Verdict. Later, it would be released under his own name.

Mertens called the music on Struggle For Pleasure 'petite musique de chambre', small chamber music. The six compositions are topped by ''Close Cover'' that proved to be a massive single. There are lots of documentaries and films that still use this beautiful arrangement.

While Mertens is strongly influenced by American minimalist composers like Steve Reich and Philip Glass, he adds his own signature sound to the mix.

Dessner: St. Carolyn By The Sea; Greenwood: Suite From 'There Will Be Blood'

Never before have classical and rock converged in such an organic, compelling and sensual way as they do in the three short orchestral works written by and featuring The National guitarist Bryce Dessner on his new release St. Carolyn by the Sea, performed with the Copenhagen Phil and conducted by Andree de Ridder.

Dessner presents three pieces of modern classical music, written from the perspective of a rock musician who is keenly aware of the raw emotional impact music any music can have on an audience. He draws on elements from Baroque and folk music, late Romanticism and modernism, minimalist music and the blues, among others, as well as referencing the work of such legendary figures as John Fahey, La Monte Young, Bela Bartook, Glenn Branca, Benjamin Britten, Morton Feldman, Philip Glass and Steve Reich. Despite this broad spectrum of influences, his voice remains individual and distinct.

With this album, which also showcases a suite drawn from Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwoods soundtrack for There Will Be Blood, Bryce Dessner and Jonny Greenwood open up a new frontier for symphonic music.

From the West coast bedroom pop beginnings of last year's A Sea As A Shore, Aaron Deer's (one half of The Impossible Shapes) one time solo project is now anchored with the drumming kaleidoscope of Shelley Harrison on this 12-inch. Now a duo, the Elephant Six foundations have given way to a treasure trove of pounding rhythms and repetitive organ lines not unlike NY's Oneida at their devilish best on Each One Teach One, or 20-odd years earlier when Philip Glass and Suicide brought the minimalist keyboard aesthetic to the rest of the world...but don't be mislead. This is a 12-inch, not some overly heady art-damaged Brooklyn piece of vinyl. It's corn-fed, head-bobbin' music from the Midwest.

Taking the term "full-length" quite literally, the album is made up of three epic side-long journeys through time and space. Though technically residing in Nashville, TN, rising singer/songwriter Daniel James aka Canon Blue has spent the majority of the past three years touring the world with Efterklang while simultaneously writing and recording Rumspringa in their Copenhagen studio. He then headed to Iceland to record orchestral arrangements with renowned string quartet Amiina. The result is a breathtakingly gorgeous mix of orchestral pop and neoclassical minimalism that blends the soulful intimacy of Jeff Buckley and the playful whimsy of Sufjan Stevens with the stately meditation of Steve Reich and Philip Glass.

arrangements by contemporary masters like Ludovico Einaudi, Arvo PÄrt, Karl Jenkins, Max Richter, Gabriel Prokofiev, Alex Baranowski and many more
"Spheres" features a curated collection of repertoire celebrating the idea, first brought forward by Pythagoras, that planetary movement creates its own
kind of music, bringing beauty, harmony and simplicity to our complex solar system. This idea has fascinated philosophers, musicians, and
    mathematicians for centuries.

An album of broad consumer appeal, featuring a number of world premieres, and destined to drive interest in the digital space.

Music of reflection, contemplation and relaxation, this album can sell to admirers of Einaudi, Philip Glass, Karl Jenkins and others, as well as the wider,

The choice to make an album of solo recordings came together as a solution to a backlog of songs Jonsi had written that didn't seem to fit within the Sigur Ros context. Go is a different beast entirely. Ecstatic, dramatic and alive, it features Jonsi's signature vocals throughout, with the majority of the songs sung in English.

Not a straight ahead pop record, nor rock, folk, ambient or electronic, it encompasses all of these to create an expansive musical palette that's been brought to life by Jonsi alongside a number of free-spirited collaborators. Chief among these is Nico Muhly, the Philip Glass protege who is renowned for his work with Bjork, Antony & The Johnsons, Bonnie Prince Billy and Grizzly Bear. Also in the mix is the percussive genius of Samuli Kosminen, whose original drumming powers many of the songs along so you have a sonic landscape that bears little relation to anything else around today, yet explodes from the speakers with sheer happiness and wonder, wide-eyed and eager to be heard. The album was recorded in Iceland and Connecticut, was co-produced by Jonsi, Alex Somers and Peter Katis (The National, Interpol) and was mixed by Tom Elmhirst in London.

    Frames

The debut Brian Haas & Matt Chamberlain album Frames features 11 instrumental compositions that spiral through the tempered scale. A through-composed work for piano and percussion, it was written entirely by Haas, the internationally renowned pianist and founder of Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey. Now based in Santa Fe, Haas wrote Frames as a suite, equally influenced by stride piano masters Earl Hines, James P. Johnson and Fats Waller; the early minimalist works of Philip Glass and Steve Reich; and the lush aesthetic of modernists James Blake, Flying Lotus and Nigel Godrich. The music is pastoral, intensely melodic and tells the story of an imagined human life.

"After several years of non-stop touring with my band Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey I felt completely drained," explains Haas. "I was pulled to move to the high desert and mountains of Sante Fe; the space/distance from the road, the unearthly view from my house and the strange hum of my new surroundings inspired this music. What started as an exercise in all 12 keys turned into Frames."

Brian Haas has recorded 21 albums and toured the world for two decades with Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey, a band he started while a student at The University of Tulsa. Grammy Award-winning drummer Matt Chamberlain is one of the most revered musicians of his time having toured and recorded with the likes of Brad Mehldau, Edie Brickell & The New Bohemians, Critters Buggin, Tori Amos, Bill Frisell and Frank Ocean among others.

    Bryce Dessner: Aheym

45 RPM Mastered Double Gatefold LP

LP Contains CD of Full Album

Aheym is an astonishing collaboration between National
guitarist Bryce Dessner and journeyman new music string
quartet the Kronos Quartet. Performing four compositions by
Dessner, the Kronos Quartet champion an exciting young
composer, continuing a history of presenting new and
important works and composers that stretches back to their
founding in 1973. Dessner has a history of composition that
predates his membership in the National, and represents a new
generation who are blurring the lines between rock and
    contemporary classical music.

    From the raw emotional
overtones of Aheym to the soaring choral crescendo - courtesy
of the Brooklyn Youth Chorus - of Tour Eiffel, Bryce Dessner's
music for the Kronos Quartet will delight longtime followers of
Kronos' work with Steve Reich, Philip Glass and others, and will
challenge and surprise the National's many fans. At the close of
day, Aheym addresses many of the same aches and dreams as
the music of the National, and it is the breaking down of these
artificial barriers of genre and performance that Bryce Dessner
    has made a life's work.

    IV

Records like Psychic Temple IV aren't made anymore. Maybe they never were. There is a magic present that some mistake for tubes or tape but it's no more complicated than putting the right musicians together with the right songs.

Produced and composed by band/cult leader Chris Schlarb, Psychic Temple IV is what happens when 87-year old Max Bennett (bassist on Joni Mitchell's Court and Spark and Hissing of Summer Lawns) plays with 26-year old drummer Tabor Allen (of Cherry Glazerr). British rock legend Terry Reid sings a trio of duets written and arranged for the only artist nicknamed Superlungs. When keyboardist Mick Rossi wrote to say he would be in town with the Philip Glass Ensemble, songs were composed and a new date was put on the calendar.

Psychic Temple IV was recorded in Los Angeles over a series of eight large scale sessions. In the spirit of the classic Wrecking Crew sessions for Phil Spector and the Beach Boys, the band was often tasked with recording four songs per session. Vocals were added as soon as the rhythm section tracks were cut with Terry Reid, Arlene Deradoorian, and Nedelle Torrisi joining Chris in the studio to work out harmony parts and sing live together.

After making his vocal debut on III, Schlarb toured the country twice over. His voice is assured and he seems to have lived with these songs (and the idea of singing) for some time. His melodies are soulful yet unpredictable having transferred his ability to write for instrumental ensembles to pop music. And yet the exploratory spirit of the first Psychic Temple album still abides. The music has been poured over with both care and abandon. There is magic in Psychic Temple IV. It's no more complicated than that.

    Bluebird

    "Musically she exists somewhere between
Feist and Townes Van Zandt, and her New
    York-by-way-of-Kentucky pluck is a refreshing
    antidote to schmaltzy neo-folk"
    - SPIN

"Dawn Landes' music sits neatly on the
fulcrum between Cat Power and Neko Case"
    - PASTE

" compelling mix of alternative folk with
    instrumental experimentation just the right
    hint of country"
    - NPR

" Landes is a haunting presence in the world
    of alt-folk experimentalism.
    - BLACKBOOK

Based in Brooklyn, but raised in Louisville, singer-songwriter Dawn Landes has been writing
songs for most of her life, and at 33 already has more than a decade of experience as a
professional producer and engineer. After leaving NYU where she studied psychology and
literature, Landes began honing her production and engineering skills, working at Stratosphere Sound
(owned by James Iha, Adam Schlesinger, and Andy Chase), and at Philip Glass'
personal recording studio, before launching Saltlands Studio in Brooklyn with partners Steve
    Salett and Gary Maurer.

Her new album Bluebird was produced in collaboration with good friend Thomas Bartlett
(known for his work with The National, Sharon Van Etten, Rufus Wainwright, Antony and the
Johnsons, and many others), and features contributions from Tony Scherr, Rob Moose, and
    Norah Jones.

Press coverage of Bluebird will understandably present this album as Dawn's answer to her
ex's divorce record. However, like any great songwriter, she's abstracting her personal
narratives enough to leave them open to interpretation and a larger meaning. Bartlett's
spartan production keeps the vibe intimate, making it easy to connect with these naked and
honest songs which manage to rise above the context in which they were written. In the end,
the fact that Bluebird is Landes' way of processing the overwhelming emotions she dealt
with after her divorce doesn't matter - there are two sides to every story, and this is hers.

    Flying Fantasy

By embedding both new age and noise-oriented
electronic themes into his pastoral pieces, Turnquist
unites disparate traditions and ideals, essentially
employing sonic counterweights to construct 57 minutes
that are as surprisingly dynamic as they are perfectly
    beautiful.
    - PITCHFORK (8.2)

New York's Turnquist is masterful. His right hand
technique is as orchestral as Nick Drake's, sending rivulets
of steel sadness out across the water, but applied to a
minimalist logic with the weight of early Philip Glass or
    Steve Reich
    - UNCUT

Turnquist layers his six and twelve string guitar
instrumentals with electronic drones, piano and vibes.
This first widely available release is a filmic beauty, its
chilly pastoralism distinguished by the physicality of his
    playing
    - MOJO

Another bravura outing from Turnquist that is, in its own
    unassuming way, a triumph
    - TEXTURA

As an accomplished 12-string guitarist/composer, Alexander Turnquist was naturally
alarmed when the ulnar nerve in his left hand seized up in 2013, but after a surgical procedure he gratefully started the process of learning to play guitar again. His recovery was
cut short when not long after the surgery he was hospitalized with meningitis. Though his
recovery is ongoing, and he continues to struggle with a weakened immune system and
memory loss, he was inspired to soldier on, rather than being deterred by his physical
    struggles.

Turnquist's latest full-length Flying Fantasy confirms the idea that out of great hardship
can come great art. As he wrote the material for the new album it became clear that his
sensitivity had sharpened, his empathy magnified, and his sense of purpose blossomed.
The unfortunate circumstances he endured ostensibly forced his metamorphosis from a
remarkable guitar player to a truly great composer. Much like the butterflies that adorn
the album cover, he seems to have changed form and taken flight.

The album opens with the sparse harmonics of House of Insomniacs, which are soon
joined by lush swells of vibes, cello, and even wordless vocals. On the tracks that follow,
Turnquist continues to make use of this dynamic sonic pallet, even adding organ, piano,
marimba, steel drums, violin, and french horn to the mix. From Red Carousel, which was
inspired by Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes, to the somber lilt of the love
song Wildflower, to the truly arresting title track Flying Fantasy which uses only 4 open
strummed guitars and loops of damaged tape and wire recorders, every note vibrates with
life as Turnquist ushers us though his intoxicatingly colorful worlds of sound.
