Surfer Rosa (Awaiting Repress)Ranked 315/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
The Plymouth Rock on which alternative rock was founded, the Pixies' Surfer Rosa forever altered the music environment even if it did take most of the world a few years to catch up with its brilliance. Internationally acknowledged as a pioneering record, its rollercoaster blend of harsh and soft tempos, male and female singing, intense punk and bubblegum pop tones, dark and light quips, and off-kilter sensibilities is the influential equivalent of the Velvet Underground's oft-cited 1967 debut.
The 1987 debut established the Pixies as otherworldly visionaries whose songs such as the insistent 'Bone Machine,' badgering 'Something Against You,' and sensual 'Cactus' remain ahead of the curve. Having analog fanatic and noise aficionado Steve Albini working production ensured that the music would retain a requisite rawness and in-your-face sonic signature that paralleled the fundamentally chaotic, compulsive characteristics of the Pixies' songs.1. Wave Of Mutilation: Best Of The PixiesOne of the most revered college-radio bands of the late 1980s and early '90s, the Pixies combined smart yet surreal pop with jagged, punk-influenced rock and, oddly enough, broke up just as the alternative music scene went mainstream. Fueled by Black Francis's oft-maniacal vocals and bizarrely catchy songs, the Boston-based quartet, rounded out by bassist/vocalist Kim Deal, guitarist Joey Santiago and drummer David Lovering, consistently crafted fascinating albums during their brief but headstrong run. This 23-track collection, released in tandem with their highly anticipated 2004 reunion tour, captures many of their finest moments.
Proceeding semi-chronologically, Wave Of Mutilation begins with the rambunctious ditty Bone Machine. Other early gems include the strange anthem Holiday Song, the anthropomorphic ode Caribou and Deal's signature song, Gigantic. The band's beloved 1989 album, Doolittle, is amply represented by seven songs, including the pleading Hey, the mischievous Monkey Gone to Heaven, the fierce Debaser and the pop-perfect Here Comes Your Man. Latter-day tunes include rockers such as Dig for Fire, Alec Eiffel and Planet of Sound, along with two B-sides, Into the White and an excellent cover of Neil Young's Winterlong. BossanovaOriginally released in 1990, Bossanova was the Pixies' third full-length and second collaboration with independent English producer Gil Norton. The album was a noted departure from their unpredictable signature sound and it's considered their first thematic project. Leader Black Francis' (Frank Thompson) songwriting reveals his twisted interpretation of surf music combined with his fascination of aliens and UFOs. The end result is Bossanova, a surf-space rock album that found the Pixies reaching new heights. Pressed on Audiophile Quality 180g Vinyl!1. Cecilia Ann

"From the rst few seconds of 'Bagboy' it's clear that the band's
vitality is fully intact" -NPR
2014 will be the year that PIXIES indelibly stamp their musical footprint
on rock history. The Alternative Rock legends are releasing their
first studio album since 1991's 'Trompe Le Monde'. Needless to say, with
two million catalogue album sales to their credit, and the recent press
announcement for the new record creating huge waves of anticipation, a
lot of people are very, very excited.
Since the band reformed to play live shows in 2004, their legacy has
grown stronger and deeper with each passing year. They've sold out
shows and festivals around the globe, attracted a whole new generation
of young converts, energized their supporters at press and radio, and
delighted a ravenous fan-base drunk on their classic catalogue but
hungry for new music.
'Indie Cindy' arrives in the wake of three highly acclaimed EPs, a massively successful US tour, multiple
radio sessions and an avalanche of press acclaim. It's the sound of a
band firing on all cylinders, eager to pick up where they left off and they
do not disappoint. Featuring the classic Pixies recipe of softer/louder
dynamics, surf twang and rock crunch, Black Francis' darkly comical
lyrics, and an array of instant classics like the singles 'Bagboy', 'Blue
Eyed Hexe' and 'Greens and Blues', these 12 tracks are destined to win
over die-hard fans and newcomers alike.
The band will continue to tour throughout the year, playing festival dates
and major market arenas, gaining even more new fans along the way,
and setting the scene for one of their best-selling and most revered
albums to date.1. What Goes Boom

Original Analog Masters Located After 18 Years and Used for Remaster
Half-Speed Mastering Yields Unprecedented Sound
Also Available on Limited Edition MoFi Hybrid SACD!
The opening instrumental to Bossanova makes it clear that the Pixies werent about to take the same crazed approach on their major-label debut as they did on their initial standout efforts, 1987's Surfer Rosa and 1989's Doolittle, also available from Mobile Fidelity on 180g LP. More straightforward, linear, fluid, subtle, and dreamy, Bossanova finds the band exploring pop structures, dropping psychedelic accents, and satisfying surf-rock urges. While it often verges off-the-beaten path, particularly for mainstream tastes circa 1990, the set is the most accessible and hook-ridden record the Pixies ever made.
Black Francis surreal narratives and breathy delivery flavor tunes like Is She Weird, Velouria, and The Happening, all of which sonically and/or lyrically tie into themes of aliens and sex. Macabre fixations and noisy outbursts take a backseat to tunefulness, putting a spotlight on Joey Santiagos underrated guitar work and Kim Deals complementary back-up vocals. Recognizing the changes, producer Gil Norton bestowed Bossanova with spacious dynamics and wide-open arrangements that allow the music to breathe.
The analog masters for Bossanova had been missing for 18 years before finally being located in 2008 in the WEA tape archives in Los Angeles. This release marks the first time that the original ½-inch analog master tapes have been used since Bossanova was originally released in August 1990. Be assured that this is the very finest version of Bossanova you will ever hear. At long last, the staggering dimensions of the Pixies canyon-wide soundscapes and three-dimensional atmospherics of their nuanced vocals are faithfully reproduced.
An essential document of one of the 20th centurys most vital bands, these numbered limited edition copies will sell out.

Hollywood Holidays: The Classic 1991 Radio Broadcast1000 Only Limited Edition
This remarkable release captures The Pixies at their finest, immediately before Christmas 1991, playing a show - broadcast by public radio network KCRW FM - at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles.
From the outset, this legendary New England four piece are at the very top of their game - opening with the savage rip-snorting blast of Rock Music, before powering into the gloriously riff-driven surf instrumental Cecilia Ann.
Even when pausing for breath, the slower numbers like Gouge Away and Subbacultcha are tough-as-nails and seethe with a barely contained fury. In addition to the usual Francis-Santiago-Deal-Lovering quartet, this performance benefits from the added keyboard wizardry of the mighty Ubus Eric Drew Feldman, who beefs up The Pixies live sound still further.
Eventually, Kim Deals dissatisfaction with Black Francis autocratic leadership style and almost complete domination of the songwriting credits, led to the band splitting apart in early 1993. They took an eleven year career-break - while Francis forged a solo career and Deal went on to achieve further success with The Breeders - and then reconvened in 2004 with the same line-up, albeit - save for a brace of digital singles and a contribution to the Warren Zevon tribute album - only in a live capacity. That much anticipated fifth studio album has yet to materialise.
This December 1991 set is naturally heavily weighted towards the bands then current record, Trompe Le Monde, which had been released just three months earlier in September. All but two of its fifteen songs are represented here - Space (I Believe In) and the title track being the only omissions.
Head On, originally by the Jesus and Mary Chain, is a rare cover version amongst the Black Francis compositions. The only other non-original here is Cecilia Ann, a number cut in the early 1960s by The Surftones. The latter was included on The Pixies 1990 album, Bossanova which also contributes Rock Music and Velouria.
Delving a little further back in time, Gouge Away, Crackity Jones, Wave of Mutilation and Monkey Gone to Heaven are all drawn from Doolittle (1989). Thematically linked - and played back-to-back here - are Manta Ray and Dancing the Mantra Ray, both originally only released as single b-sides. Finally, there is Ed Is Dead, the lone representative from The Pixies debut EP, Come on Pilgrim, released in October 1987.LP 1

Trompe Le Monde
The Pixies Trompe Le Monde On Numbered Limited Edition 180g LP From Mobile Fidelity
Pixies Swan Song Sparks With Electrically Charged Hooks, Outer-Space Atmospherics, And Eminent Tunefulness
Mastered From The Original Master Tapes: Restoration Turns 1991 Album Into A Sonic Blockbuster
Frank Black-led Set Includes Contagious Cover Of The Jesus And Mary Chain's "Head On"
The Pixies verged on commercial breakthrough when the now-iconic band released Trompe le Monde in September 1991. A sea change in popular music tastes that the band helped initiate began to sweep the world. And the Boston quartet seemed prepared to lead the way, with this, its eminently tuneful fourth record, jam-packed with crafty hooks, prickly tones, catchy elements, outer-space atmospherics, electrically charged energy, and delightfully quirky lyrics.
As it stands, Trompe le Monde takes its place as one of the finest swan songs ever recorded. If the Pixies wouldn't have broken up right after its release, there's no telling what would've happened. All that you need to know is that the 15-track effort is as hard rocking and brilliantly innovative as any of the group's creations. That's no small feat.
Mastered from the original analog tapes and pressed at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's numbered limited edition 180g LP presents the ensemble's abrasively melodic landmark in a fidelity it's never enjoyed in any prior version. Featuring lusher keyboards and moodier soundscapes than its predecessors, but also reclaiming the nasty guitar edginess and swooning distortion of the group's earliest efforts, Trompe de la Monde finally comes across as the Pixies intended: A sonic bridge between college-rock's influential cruder-textured albums and the polished professionalism that distinguished alt-rock classics.
In other words, Mobile Fidelity's version presents it as the perfect-sounding album: Replete with grit, rawness, and character, but mixed in with radio-friendly smoothness and virtuosic professionalism. Awash with incredible timbres and tonalities, myriad new details rise to the surface. Listen to the counterpoint melodies and layered vocals on "Letter to Memphis"; the trash-compactor feedback and thumping bass during the whipsawing "Planet of Sound"; the "Spyhunter"-like pace and limitless depth now present on "Subbacultcha." Dynamics, contrasts, low-end frequencies, and imaging are all significantly enhanced. Compared to the original CD, Trompe le Monde emerges as a new album-a sonic wonderland that's not far removed from that of Nirvana's celebrated blockbuster Nevermind.
Musically, the Pixies were never better. On par with the groundbreaking Surfer Rosa and Doolittle, Trompe le Monde explodes with hyper riffs, jerks to stop-start progressions, elates with cheerful emotions, and bangs on to giddy surf-fused arrangements. With Kim Deal absent from the songwriting process, vocalist/guitarist Frank Black takes the reigns and doesn't disappoint. Tales about sea monkeys ("Palace of the Brine"), aliens ("Planet of Sound"), and love ("The Sad Punk") bop alongside memorable jabs at hipster pretensions ("Subbacultcha") and inflated egos ("U-Mass"). A contagious cover of the Jesus and Mary Chain's "Head On" will have you hitting "repeat." Power pop, wanderlust punk, theatrical glam rock, reconfigured reverb-laden country-all here, all encouraging repeat listens.
Nearly lost due amidst the alternative trend that it played such a key role in spawning, Trompe le Monde gets new life courtesy of this extremely punchy, greatly balanced Mobile Fidelity issue. If you missed it the first time, don't make that mistake again. Essential with a capital "E," and the perfect way to close Mobile Fidelity's Pixies catalog restoration series.

DoolittleRanked 226/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
For the follow up to their classic 1988 debut Surfer Rosa, the Pixies brought in producer Gil Norton (Echo & The Bunnyment, Patty Smith, Foo Fighters) and the results were equally as brilliant if not superior to its predecessor. Doolittle boasted a cleaner sound and received excellent reviews, which led to greater exposure in America. Both a benchmark and a timeless monument, the album brazenly mixes
surf-pop and grunge, with schizophrenic pacing and head banging jolts. Cited as one of the quintessential alternative rock albums of the '80s by Rolling Stone, Doolittle is undoubtedly one of the most epic and influential indie rock albums of all time. " Twin Peaks have perfected the kind of songwriting that puts you in a practiced, happy headlock."
"The Chicago teenagers who make up the band Twin Peaks make a confident old-school indie rock chug that should be beyond their years."
"Although steeped in the amp-shattering sensibilities of a garage band, the triumphant Sunken listens like a sunny pop record. It's lovably fuzzy, worn with the character of beloved jukebox hits."
- Consequence of Sound
Don't bother asking Twin Peaks about the deeper meaning of their band name. They simply thought it sounded cool, which explains why their second album Wild Onion isn't as spooky or surreal as David Lynch's short-lived TV show. It's more like a modern day Nuggets, with Ty Segall, Black Lips and Thee Oh Sees curating instead of Lenny Kaye. Not literally, of course. But the spirit of those garage demigods is alive and well alongside subtle nods to everything from the Pixies and Tame Impala to the godfathers of guitar-guided pop music, the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Beach Boys.
If combining the influence of so many classic artists seems like a lofty goal for a group of 20 year olds, just remember that Twin Peaks' core quartet-frontman Cadien Lake James, guitarist Clay Frankel, bassist Jack Dolan and drummer Connor Brodner-has roots that reach back to elementary school. After cutting his teeth during his high school freshman year in a duo with his older brother Hal, James reconnected with his old chums and formed what would become Twin Peaks, and the chemistry was immediately undeniable.
Having quickly cut their debut LP, 2013's Sunken, in Cadien's basement so they could sell it on tour, the band was excited to spend more time developing Wild Onion, a record that reveals a level of maturity beyond all the amp-singeing solos, ragtag rhythms and dizzying voices of three distinct singer-songwriters. Unlike acts who let their egos get in the way, Cadien, Clay and Jack share the spotlight and play to one another's strengths as Connor keeps things moving with a steady beat.1. I Found a New Way

Takes To The Hills (Pure Pleasure)
The incomparable and profoundly influential pianist/singer-songwriter Mose Allison - who's inspired everyone from Georgie Fame, The Who and The Clash to Van Morrison and Pixies - developed his own unique, idiosyncratic style that melded an ironic sense of wit and humour with country-blues inflections and a bebop-esque vocabulary. Besides cool playing and his uniquely smoky singing, has great taste in material. Hey Good Lookin' fits right in with revisited versions of I Love the Life I Live, I Ain't Got Nobody and Baby Please Don't Go, complete with what the singer himself calls his distinctive 'involuntary groan' during the piano solo. Teo Macero's intimate production makes it feel like you're right there in the studio.

About Pure Pleasure
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.1. V-8 Ford Blues

Different CreaturesTwo years on from their youthfully nervy debut, Liverpool's Circa Waves are showing signs of an assured maturity on their sophomore album, 2017's confidently delivered Different Creatures. On 2015's aptly titled Young Chasers, Circa Waves lead singer/songwriter Kieran Shudall cooed and sneered his way through a wave of kinetic post-punk that seemed born as much out of teen angst and a boyish enthusiasm as his obvious love of influences like Arctic Monkeys and the Strokes.
While still clearly carrying a torch for early-2000s neo-post-punk, Shudall and his Circa Waves bandmates are now road-hardened tour vets, indie rock prodigal sons returned home to reconnect with old mates over a pint, figure out how their relationships went so awry, and contextualize the insanity of the past few years. It's a vibe perhaps best expressed on the yearning Without You, in which Shudall sings, Finally getting some, thank god for home/So, shit food and sleeping pills/Cheap drinks and cheaper thrills/Oh pour me, pour me/And I and I, I will lead this parade/And I will travel for days to get to you. It's a catchy song, as are many on Different Creatures, reminiscent of their previous efforts but with an added layer of muscular guitar fuzz that brings to mind the bombastic '90s sludge of the Pixies crossed with the passionate alt-rock swoon of The Bends-era Radiohead.
It's probably no coincidence that, prior to working with bands like the Killers and Interpol, Different Creatures producer Alan Moulder made his name working on albums by such alt-rock icons as Ride, My Bloody Valentine, Smashing Pumpkins, and Nine Inch Nails. With Moulder at the helm, Circa Waves deliver a varied set of driving anthems that do recapture much of the convergent energy of the '90s Brit-pop and alt-rock scenes. Without overwhelming you with a sense of dÉjà vu, cuts like Out on My Own, Stuck, and Goodbye are massively hooky blasts of guitar rock that subtly draw cues from both older acts like Smashing Pumpkins and similarly inclined contemporary bands like the Killers and Kings of Leon. Elsewhere, Shudall showcases his stylistic range on the John Lennon-esque acoustic ballad Love's Run Out, and leavens the Killers/Kings of Leon influence with some Lindsey Buckingham-ish, Fleetwood Mac-level pop grandeur on the uber-catchy standout Fire That Burns.
Part of what makes Circa Waves so compelling is that they are able to match the sound of their influences while still believably making the results sound their own. They've grown into an assured rock entity, but they've retained their fundamental sense of working-class Liverpudlian blues. As Shudall sings on Old Friends, I can't believe I'm still up/I can't believe this conversation is still going/I need to really grow up/I drank so much I can't see straight son/What am I doing? Ultimately, with Different Creatures, Circa Waves sound like they know exactly what they are doing.

POD (Awaiting Repress)Though ostensibly a side project of The Pixies' Kim Deal and Throwing Muses' Tanya Donelly, The Breeders' 1990 debut, Pod, has held up as a classic of late 80s/early 90s off-kilter alternative pop, surpassing the contemporaneous work of their main bands. Though Deal would really hit the big time 3 years later with the Breeders' follow-up, Last Splash, and Donelly would do the same with her next band, Belly, Pod is the band's finest, most coherent, album and perhaps the high point in both their careers.
