    Rivington Nao Rio

Rivington Não Rio revels in the kind of compassionate
complexity that marks Prefuse 73's greatest works, with a
profound new element added to the mix: Patience.
Guillermo S. Herren's ability to marry the manic to the
melodic has always been uncanny, but here it feels
downright magical as the songs inhale with his trademark
sense of urgency then exhale in longer, more revealing
breaths. The prismatic textures that have long been a staple
of Prefuse 73 are bound to beats and melodies with the
spirit of hip-hop and the subtlety of modern minimalism. The
album's guests treat the material with a hushed respect: Roc
Nation songwriter and Jessie Ware collaborator Sam Dew
turns Infrared into a sublimely soulful, dimly-lit portrait of
    inverted R&B; Milo & Busdriver's vicious, rapid-fire verses
contrast a pastoral downbeat to brilliant effect; and
elsewhere, Pinback's Rob Crow and Latin electronic-folk
crooner Helado Negro navigate splintered tropics with
    passive grace.

As a stand-alone album, Rivington Não Rio ranks
extraordinarily high in the Prefuse 73 canon. As a
centerpiece to an epic triptych that includes the Forsyth
Gardens and Every Color of Darkness EPs, it's a new peak
from a pioneer who appears to only just now be hitting his
prime. For an artist who has played an undeniably integral
role in the careers of so many influential artists, it's not just
refreshing to hear him return to top form...it's revelatory.

Diverse is a rapper you think you've heard before--not because this Chicago MC sounds similar to others, but because his presence is so powerful it seems impossible that this is only his first album. Intelligent without being arrogant, conscious without being corny, Diverse also boasts two of the greatest assets any MC could ask for: an authoritative baritone and a confident flow. These help him keep up with some of the more seasoned rappers who appear on the album, including Vast Aire (formerly of Cannibal Ox), Lyrics Born, and Jean Grae. Complementing Diverse's superior lyricism is top-notch production courtesy of a holy trinity of underground favorites: Prefuse 73, Madlib, and RJD2. They push the album from raucously energetic to sinisterly moody to laid-back cool. ... Diverse's debut accomplishes an unlikely feat in these days of overblown hype and rampaging ego: he leaves you wanting more. --Oliver Wang

    Ultraista Remixes

    LIMITED EDITION OF 2,000 COPIES

Ultraísta Remixes compiles a year's worth of remixes from friends and collaborators within the ever-expanding Ultraísta orbit. Though some of these tracks have become social media sensations in their own right - collectively clocking more than two million plays on the band's Soundcloud and YouTube channels - Ultraísta Remixes has been perfectly sequenced to succeed as a stand-alone album (an alarmingly strong one, no less). Rarely do remix
albums have this level of quality control and seemingly infinite replay value.

Whereas Ultraísta's debut album commits to its palette with uncanny precision and devotion, Remixes explodes its individual parts and reveals the group to be equally compelling as techno powerhouse (Four Tet, FaltyDL, DC Sux), dark electro-pop (Zero 7, Zammuto, ERAAS, Canon Blue), experimental dance (Prefuse 73, Matthew Herbert), and even driving industrial rock (David Lynch in an inspired
NIN-meets-YYYs turn). The combination of all of these seemingly disparate parts makes for a surprisingly cohesive whole, and a remarkable companion to the original album.

    1. You're Out (Prefuse 73 Remix)
    2. Smalltalk (Four Tet Remix)
    3. Gold Dayzz (FaltyDL Remix)
    4. Wash It Over (ERAAS Remix)

    Every Color Of Darkness

It has been four years since Guillermo S. Herren released
anything significant from his most famous and respected
moniker, Prefuse 73 (though he did keep busy with live
shows, collaborations, and remixes). That's a long time for
virtually any artist, but it's an eternity for Herren, whose first
three Prefuse 73 albums dropped in the span of four years.
As if to make up for lost time, 2015 will see the release of
not one, but three major works from Prefuse 73. After
several albums that saw Herren progressively drift away
from the beatmaking prowess that made him synonymous
with emotionally resonant, damaged hip-hop, he's found
himself reinvigorated - thanks in large part to an emotionally
draining, creatively cashed few years. As Herren puts it, I've
come back to hyper focusing - immersing myself in the
sounds, rhythms, and formations that created Prefuse 73 in
the first place. Recently, I've found a new life in the whole
process of refining what I've created over the years as
"Prefuse". Right now I'm at my most confident and
    comfortable since 05/06.

It shows. The conclusion of a triptych of new recordings,
Every Color of Darkness basks in the darkest corners of
Prefuse 73's world, finding an eerie romanticism in manic
beats and damaged jazz. It's a record that showcases his
uncanny ability to excavate and exploit a source of light
    buried in pitch black.

For an artist who has played an undeniably integral role in
the careers of so many influential artists - from MF Doom
to Battles to Flying Lotus - it's not just refreshing to hear
him return to top form...it's revelatory.

    Release Date: July 6, 2018*

Guillermo Scott Herren is a producer who has been based in Atlanta, Barcelona and New York City. Herren releases music under the aliases
Prefuse 73, Delarosa & Asora, Ahmad Szabo, and Piano Overlord, and is also part of the groups Savath y Savalas, Sons of the Morning, Fudge,
    Risil, and Diamond Watch Wrists.

Herren began his career working in commercial studios in Atlanta. Vocal Studies + Uprock Narratives, his first album as Prefuse 73 -- after
lower-key releases as/with Delarosa, Delarosa & Asora, and Savath & Savalas -- not only buried but cut up and spliced voices as well as allowing
some more straightforward vocals from several MCs. The 2003 follow-up, One Word Extinguisher, carried on in a similar vein.

Surrounded by Silence, the successor to One Word Extinguisher, was released in 2005, featuring collaborations with rappers Ghostface and
Aesop Rock, plus Blonde Redhead and EL-P. Three months later, an EP of recordings made with the band the Books appeared, titled Reads the
Books. The next Prefuse record, 2006's Security Screenings, was relatively light on collaborations; it featured only two guests, Four Tet's Kieran
Hebden and TV on the Radio's Tunde Adebimpe. Preparations, featuring Battles drummer John Stanier on one track, followed in 2007, and
Everything She Touched Turned Ampexian appeared in 2009. Herren focused on collaborative projects in 2010, flexing his production muscles via
dates, remixes, or cameos with everyone from Zach Hill (Diamond Watch Wrists) to Oneohtrix Point Never to TV on the Radio. His 2011
production The Only She Chapters continued the familial feeling, with a wealth of features for female vocalists.

A few years later, newly inspired, Herren returned to the Prefuse 73 moniker with a flurry of releases on Temporary Residence Limited -- an outlet
endorsed by friends Nigel Godrich (Ultraísta) and Hebden -- beginning with the 25th entry into the label's Travels in Constants EP series. The
album Rivington Não Rio, featuring guest appearances by Busdriver, Rob Crow, and Helado Negro, was flanked by the EPs Forsyth Gardens and
Every Color of Darkness. During that summer and fall, Herren recorded several sessions with MC Michael Christmas under the name Fudge. The
duo's playful debut full-length, Lady Parts, arrived on Lex Records in September of 2016.

    Double Youth

"A headphone-friendly, Latin-flavored, hypnotic concoction of deep grooves, tropical textures and warped blips and bleeps compressed into fractured layers." - Magnet

Helado Negro recorded Double Youth, his fourth LP, in his home studio with a computer, his voice, and telepathic input from a poster he found buried in a closet in his childhood home. Seeing the poster evoked a sudden rush of memories, but also a sense of isolation and separation. Who was this person in the photo? And what else had Helado Negro
forgotten? The poster's impact was so significant, it framed a new recording process for Helado Negro and now serves as cover art, title, and the conceptual framework for the lyrics and song structures.

Helado Negro certainly owes something to his contemporaries, Bear in Heaven, Young Magic, Empress Of, Prefuse 73, and School of Seven Bells, but Double Youth is more a spiritual long-lost cousin to the great masters of funk, like Parliament, Prince, and George Duke, whose finely tuned beats married the ear with the body in new ways. Bass drum machines in Double Youth pulse like a robot dance movement. Bass undercurrents fuzz. Sine waves tickle the brain stem. The melodies weave through the air like a fish. And Helado Negro's voice, which grows more and more confident with each record, is a cool, clean dance partner to the beat and melody.
