    Prince

Prince is the eponymous second studio album by American recording artist Prince. It was originally released on October 19, 1979 by Warner Bros. Records. The album was written, arranged, composed, produced and performed entirely by Prince, with the only known contribution from another person being some vocal harmony added by close friend/bassist AndrÉ Cymone on Track 2.

Prince recorded the album in just a few weeks after Warner Bros. asked for a follow-up to his 1978 debut, For You. Prince had used twice his initial recording advance on the album, and it had failed to generate a pop hit (although Soft and Wet became a No. 12 R&B hit). Displeased at his lack of success, Prince quickly recorded the follow-up.

Overall, the album was much more diverse and well-received than For You, critically and commercially. The success of this album geared Prince towards his next, Dirty Mind, which would be called a complete departure from his earlier sound.

    Prince Avalanche

The post-rock grandeur of Explosions in the Sky lends itself well to movies and television, so much so that the Texas foursome are pretty much synonymous with Friday Night Lights. The instrumental unit will further capitalize on their cinematic flair by releasing their original score to Prince Avalanche, the latest film from director David Gordon Green.

Explosions in the Sky teamed with composer/longtime Green collaborator David Wingo (also of Ola Podrida) to write the 15-track score, which will be issued through Temporary Residence Ltd.

Remastered on 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl!

After John Coltrane and Cannonball Adderly left the 'quintet', Miles Davis was forced to search for new qualified musicians. He found them in Hank Mobley, Wynton Kelly, Jimmy Cobb and Paul Chambers. In 1961, just two years after recording Kind Of Blue, Miles and his new line up started recording energetically and finished Someday My Prince Will Come after only three days.

This album is a cross-over from Kind Of Blue, which is known for the typical Miles Davis-tunes, to traditional pop-standards such as the eponymous title track from Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs.

Jimi Hendrix Experience: Miami Pop Festival introduces the first recorded stage performances of Hear My Train A Comin' and Tax Free while showcasing definitive live takes on such classics as Fire, Hey Joe, I Don't Live Today and Purple Haze. The package includes never before published photos taken at the festival and an essay by award-winning music journalist and Grammy Museum Executive Director Bob Santelli.

The first ever major rock festival staged on the East Coast, the May 1968 Miami Pop Festival was the first event promoted by Michael Lang--who would organize Woodstock, the biggest pop culture event of the decade, fifteen months later--and Ric O'Barry, who had been the dolphin trainer for the popular television program Flipper. A beautiful addition to the Davis canon. Recorded over the course of three days in April 1961, Someday My Prince Will Come showcases Miles' second great rhythm section, here at the absolute peak of their telepathic interplay. Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers and Jimmy Cobb were as tight a unit as any ever formed, grooving so successfully that they went on to leave Miles and form the Wynton Kelly trio. Someday My Prince Will Come also includes some positively blistering solos from guest John Coltrane in his final recording with Miles. And Hank Mobley offers up some beautiful bluesy solos.

Featuring Sign 'O' The Times And La, La, La, He, He, Hee

Sign o' the Times is the lead single from American musician Prince's 1987 album of the same name. The song was originally intended for two separate Prince albums meant to be released in 1986, that were both shelved: Dream Factory and Crystal Ball. Prince sings and performs the entire track except for some backing vocals by then-girlfriend Susannah Melvoin, sister of Wendy, then a guitarist in The Revolution. Sign o' the Times was written and composed on a Sunday, when Prince usually wrote his most introspective songs.

    Nothing Compares 2 U

Nothing Compares 2 U contains the original version of the iconic song. This previously unreleased version was recorded in 1984, six years before 1990's classic reimagining by SinÉad O'Connor and before Prince started performing the song live. The track was recorded at the Flying Cloud Drive 'Warehouse' in Eden Prairie by Prince's long-time engineer Susan Rogers, and originally composed, arranged and performed in its entirety by Prince, aside from the backing vocals by Susannah Melvoin and Paul St. Paul Peterson. Also featured on the original track is saxophone work by Eric Leeds.

    Sign 'O' The Times

It begins with the insistent drip-drop of a sequencer and ends with some old school R&B. In between, the artist who was still calling himself Prince unfurls an encyclopedia of moods, genres, and grooves. Widely heralded as a groundbreaker in 1987, this two-LP set is clearly the sound of a performer at the height of his power. On songs like the title track, If I Was Your Girlfriend, and the thunderous The Cross, Prince proves why the hype was justified. --Amy Linden

    Let's Go Crazy

Let's Go Crazy was the opening track on both the album and the film Purple Rain. One of Prince's most popular songs, Let's Go Crazy was almost always a staple for concert performances, often segueing into other hits. When released as a single, the song became Prince's second number-one hit on the Billboard Hot 100, and also topped the two component charts, the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and Hot Dance Club Play charts, as well as becoming a UK Top 10 hit.

    Art Official Age

Few artists have created a body of work as rich and varied as Prince. During the '80s, he emerged as one of the most singular talents of the rock & roll era, capable of seamlessly tying together pop, funk, folk, and rock. Not only did he release a series of groundbreaking albums; he toured frequently, produced albums and wrote songs for many other artists, and recorded hundreds of songs that still lie unreleased in his vaults. With each album he released, Prince has shown remarkable stylistic growth and musical diversity, constantly experimenting with different sounds, textures, and genres. Occasionally, his music can be maddeningly inconsistent because of this eclecticism, but his experiments frequently succeed; no other contemporary artist can blend so many diverse styles into a cohesive whole.

ART OFFICIAL AGE is a classic Prince album, produced, arranged, composed and performed by Prince and Joshua Welton. Sonically the record is a contemporary concoction of soul, R&B and funk. The melodies are immediate and prominent as ever and Prince's vocals are rich and solid, taking full advantage of his vocal range with decidedly, seductive lyrics.
