In 1976 Johnny Rotten and the Sex Pistols set the agenda for punk's year zero with 'Anarchy In The UK', a song that summed up the spirit, sound and attitude of the band in one shocking package. Two years later, the Sex Pistols were in tatters, but Rotten was as unsentimental as you'd hope. He reverted to his real name - John Lydon - and set about forming a band whose very identity kicked against press and media manipulation. Featuring bassist Jah Wobble, drummer Jim Walker and guitarist Keith Levene, his new group were Public Image Limited. The public image would be limited.

PiL were a very distinct prospect from the Pistols, founded with a greater thought for rhythm, and with a sound that turned the page from snarling punk to a more experimental sound fusing rock, dance, folk, ballet, pop and dub. But that's not to say Lydon's new outfit lacked vitriol. 'Public Image' hits out against the notorious British tabloid press, who never gave Lydon an easy ride, and against his own Sex Pistols public image - "You only saw me for the clothes I wore".

The debut single (and the album that followed) operated as a theme song and a manifesto: " my entrance/My own creation/My grand finale/My goodbye," as the lyrics had it. It is, essentially, the sound of four people letting loose in a studio - and not caring what anyone else thought.

    Second Edition

    Clear Vinyl

The second album from John Lydon's post-Sex Pistols group is widely considered to be their magnum opus. Combining such diverse influences as krautrock, dub, post-punk, and the avant-garde, Second Edition is four sides of harsh and uncompromising, yet danceable, music. While not the immediate influence and sensation that Never Mind The Bullocks was, this record is certainly John Lydon's finest artistic achievement. Originally released in the UK as Metal Box this is the first vinyl reissue of the US version of the album with its different running order. Clear vinyl double LP in a deluxe gatefold package.

Public Image Ltd (PiL) release their 10th studio album on 4th September. The 11-track album follows the huge critical success of 2012's 'This is PiL', the band's first album in 17 years. Commenting on the new album, John Lydon says, "Buy now while stocks last."Widely regarded as one of the most innovative and influential bands of all time, PiL's music and vision earned them 5 UK Top 20 singles and 5 UK Top 20 albums. With a shifting line-up and unique sound, John Lydon guided the band from their debut album 'First Issue' in 1978 through to 1992's 'That What Is Not'. Passion & Warfare

Steve Vai started his career working for the legendary Frank Zappa. Later on he recorded and toured with Public Image Ltd., Alcatrazz, David Lee Roth and Whitesnake. Passion And Warfare is his second solo album and was released in 1990. It is acclaimed as his best album, finding him coming into his own as a composer, as well as bypassing vocals almost entirely. Because Vai is a much more distinguished composer than most of his guitar-shredder colleagues, who most of the time are simply showing off their technique, Passion And Warfare is possibly one of the richest and best hard rock guitar-virtuoso albums ever.

Can was founded in 1968 by Irmin Schmidt, Holger Czukay, Michael Karoli and Jaki Liebezeit who formed a group which would utilize and transcend all boundaries of ethnic, electronic experimental and modern classical music.

Monster Movie, Can's debut album was originally recorded and released in 1969. The use of improvisation, experimentation, editing and layering of sounds set a standard for Can's subsequent albums in the early 1970s, which were seminal to the freewheeling avant-garde style dubbed "krautrock" by the British music press.

The band's powerful influence has never diminished, and their indelible mark is apparent in the bands who freely acknowledge their importance - from Portishead, James Murphy, New Order, Factory Floor, Public Image Ltd, Mogwai, Kanye West (who sampled 'Sing Swan Song') and Radiohead - as well as across other disciplines such as visual art and literature.

Soundtracks is a compilation album, first released in 1970, consisting of tracks written for film. The album marks the departure of the band's original vocalist Malcolm Mooney, who sings on two tracks, to be replaced by new member Damo Suzuki. "Don't Turn the Light On, Leave Me Alone" is Damo Suzuki's first recorded performance with Can.

Landed is Can's seventh studio album, released in 1975.

The band upgraded to 16 tracks and had the opportunity
to bring out many more layers of sound and an upbeat
nature for most of the tracks in the process. The album was
produced by the band themselves, and produced a single,
"Hunters and Collectors" backed by "Vernal Equinox", which

Can, the 11th studio album by Can was originally released
in 1979. Lost during its initial release amongst the punk
explosion, Can features the classic tracks "Sodom" and
"Can Be". Holger Czukay's involvement took a back seat
on this album. Can is also the last album before Can reunited

Future Days is the fifth studio album by Can. This is the
last album to feature Japanese vocalist Damo Suzuki. On
Future Days, the band explored the ambient direction they
had introduced into their sound on the previous year's Ege
Bamyasi creating a landmark in European electronic music.
Future Days is fiercely progressive, calming, complex,

Flow Motion is the eighth Can studio album. It features the
UK hit single "I Want More". The success of "I Want More"
led to an appearance on Top of the Pops. Flow Motion
was mixed using binaural stereo, a method of recording
sound that uses two microphones, arranged with the intent
to create a 3-D stereo sound sensation for the listener of
actually being in the room with the performers or instruments.

Saw Delight is the ninth Can studio album.

It features two new band members who were ex-members
of Traffic. The musical direction flirts with world music and
precedes the mid-1980s world music trend set by artists
such as Paul Simon and Peter Gabriel. Saw Delight was

Delay is the classic "first album" originally recorded in 1968
that got stuck in the vaults until 1981 when Holger Czukay
edited the archived tapes and officially released the album.
Delay is a compilation album of early outtakes of Can's work

Soon Over Babaluma is the sixth studio album by Can,
the band's first album without a lead vocalist who does not

The vocals are taken care of by guitarist Michael Karoli and

Can was founded in 1968 by Irmin Schmidt, Holger Czukay, Michael Karoli and Jaki Liebezeit who formed a group which would utilize and transcend all boundaries of ethnic, electronic experimental and modern classical music.

Out Of Reach, the 10th studio album by Can has been
unavailable in any official format since its original release in 1978.
Out Of Reach is one of Can's lesser known albums. This is
due in large part to the fact that bassist Holger Czukay left the
band while this album was being recorded, and drummer Jaki
Liebezeit had a reduced role. Most of the rhythm duties were
left to percussionist, Reebop Kwaku Baah. New bassist Rosko
Gee largely leads the group, and his jazz-inflected playing
is marvellous, especially on the centrepiece improvisations
    "November" and "Serpentine."

In a way, it was a reaction against Punk (and just about any other music you can think of), and the conservative notion that 3 chords were somehow necessary. I used to deny it vehemently at the time, but No Wave (I "hated" that scene too, for some reason I can't remember now) played a big role as the germ from which this music grew, along with The Stooges and Throbbing Gristle, of course. I wanted Swans to be "heavier" though - I wanted the music to obliterate - why, I don't remember! I think it just felt good. Live, we used two basses (playing utterly unmusical chords that were stabbed and left to sustain or sometimes hit in staccato or opposing rhythms), drums, a "percussionist" that slammed down on a metal table with a metal strap, crude cassette loops of various sounds/noises (usually some kind of undefined ROAR), and Norman Westberg's glorious sustained and screaming guitar chords. It was pretty elating to play live - for us. If 100 people showed up (which would have been a huge audience at the time - 20 was more the average), 80 were guaranteed to leave by the second song. Somehow that tension - contempt or indifference from the audience - was nourishing, so we kept going.

Here's some music I was listening to at the time: Throbbing Gristle, Psychic TV, The Stooges, Brian Eno, Teenage Jesus And The Jerks, DNA, The Contortions, Glenn Branca, Black Flag, early Pink Floyd, This Heat, Kraftwerk, The Germs, Cabaret Voltaire, Can, Public Image LTD., SPK "

    Freedom

Refused came to an end in front of 50 kids at a basement show in a Virginia college town in 1998,
just as their release of the same year, The Shape of Punk to Come, was taking its first steps toward
becoming an acknowledged classic and a massive influence on a generation of bands. Refused Are
Fucking Dead! became the slogan, as kids discovered Shape and its breakout track "New Noise"
only to find their new heroes disbanded.

Refused Are Fucking Alive! After a 2012 invitation to reform for the Coachella festival, Refused followed
its first shows in 15 years with a triumphant tour, as every kid who had discovered them after
death came out to see them reborn. Now comes Freedom, the first album in almost 20 years, on
Epitaph, the label that released The Shape of Punk to Come all those years ago. Freedom explodes
out of the speakers with opening track "Elektra," as frontman Dennis Lyxzen's throat-shredding
declaration that "nothing has changed" catapults Refused into the 21st century. If Shape blasted
apart the constraints of the punk and hardcore worlds with which Refused had long been associated,
Freedom goes a step further by incorporating the wide-ranging influences that have shaped
each band members' personal tastes. Produced by Nick Launay (Gang Of Four, Public Image Ltd.,
Nick Cave, Arcade Fire) with additional work by fellow Swede and longtime Refused fan Shellback,
Freedom is not just a follow-up to Shape, but a living breathing snapshot of a band, alive, now.
"It's not a reunion anymore," Lyxzen insists. "This is one of the most radical things we've ever done,
    both musically and lyrically."

Out Of Print For 15 Years

Can was founded in 1968 by Irmin Schmidt, Holger Czukay, Michael Karoli and Jaki Liebezeit who formed a group which would utilize and transcend all boundaries of
ethnic, electronic experimental and modern classical music.

Ege Bamyasi is Can's fourth studio album originally recorded and released in in 1972. The album contains the popular tracks "Vitamin C" and "Spoon" and features one of the band's most iconic front cover images. Ege Bamyas means "Aegean Okra" in Turkish.
