    Chronic Town

Chronic Town established R.E.M.'s signature sound immediately, expanding the jangling riffs of their debut single, Radio Free Europe, into a full-fledged modus operandi. Recorded at Mitch Easter's Drive-In Studios, the EP has an endearingly ragged sound -- it's a garage band playing jangling pop songs, and while the music is melodic and memorable, it has an underground mentality that keeps it from sounding conventional. Their songwriting is distinctive, with Gardening at Night, Wolves, Lower, and Carnival of Sorts (Box Cars) ranking as early classics.

    Reckoning

Whereas Murmur had been complex and painstakingly deliberate, the bands Bill Berry, Peter Buck, Mike Mills and Michael Stipe, along with producers Mitch Easter and Don Dixon, saw Reckoning as a chance to turn up the volume, tear up the rule book, and capture instead R.E.M.s on-stage mojo. Features the chart hit So. Central Rain and the college radio anthems Pretty Persuasion, (Don't Go Back To) Rockville and Time After Time (Annelise). Green

1988's Green, R.E.M.'s sixth studio album, was a milestone of sorts for the band: Green marked the group's
departure from longtime label I.R.S. Records; it was R.E.M's first LP to be certified double platinum, and it was the
album that broadened and solidified the band's success across the Atlantic.

    An eclectic album, Green featured
singles "Stand" and "Orange Crush" and was certified double platinum in the US, platinum in the UK, and peaked at

    The Sound Of Arvo Part

Arvo PÄrt creates music of deceptive simplicity, and listening to his work can be a transformative experience. Imagine taking your ears on a retreat, and you're some way to understanding why his work is so popular. The Estonian composer underwent his own transformation in the 1970s, having explored dense avant-garde music in the early part of his career. He put himself through an eight-year creative exile, and emerged with a new, purer voice. The Arvo PÄrt that many people are devoted to today (including R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe and Björk) creates music that cleanses. A sonic detox.

    Indigo Girls

After a limited self-financed release, this self-titled album can be seen as the proper debut by Indigo Girls. The album immediately boosted them up the charts, earning them a Grammy back in 1989, eventually reaching platinum in 1991. Featuring the complementing songwriting of Emily Saliers and Amy Ray and guest vocals by R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe, the album is a showcase for jangling folk-rock, beautiful balladry and poetic lyrics.

In the wake of the new acoustic song-based styles of Suzanne Vega, Tracy Chapman and 10,000 Maniacs, Indigo Girls would manage to garner respectable mainstream success and maintain their rabid core following throughout the three decades after this release.

    MTV Unplugged, 2001

R.E.M. Unplugged, 2001 shares the band's set for MTV's MTV Unplugged acoustic performance. The release highlighted the band's 2001 album Reveal.

R.E.M. mark the point when post-punk turned into alternative rock. When their first single, Radio Free Europe, was released in 1981, it sparked a back-to-the-garage movement in the American underground. While there were a number of hardcore and punk bands in the U.S. during the early '80s, R.E.M. brought guitar pop back into the underground lexicon. Combining ringing guitar hooks with mumbled, cryptic lyrics and a D.I.Y. aesthetic borrowed from post-punk, the band simultaneously sounded traditional and modern. Throughout the '80s, they worked relentlessly, releasing records every year and touring constantly, playing both theaters and backwoods dives. Along the way, they inspired countless bands, from the legions of jangle pop groups in the mid-'80s to scores of alternative pop groups in the '90s, who admired their slow climb to stardom.

First Pressing Of 1000 Numbered Copies On Transparent Green Vinyl

    4-Page Booklet Included

Homebrew is the second studio album by Neneh Cherry. The album features several different genres, including between Jazz, Funk and Trip Hop. Hip Hop legends Gang Starr co-wrote and produced Soul Sassy and I Ain't Gone Under Yet. Geoff Barrow wrote and produced Somedays.

Trout features a guitar riff sampled from Steppenwolf's version of The Pusher, and the drum track by John Bonham from When The Levee Breaks.Buddy X was allegedly inspired by Lenny Kravitz. It was remixed by Notorious B.I.G and the Dream Team. The track Move With Me later appeared on the soundtrack of the 1993 film Sliver.

Everything on this record is a gem. Cherry triumphs with a seamless and unorthodox blend of Hip Hop, R&B, Dance music, and Pop, and on Money Love and Trout, the presence of R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe brings Rock to the eclectic mix.

    The King Is Dead

The King Is Dead is a mostly-acoustic set of 10 concise, Americana-based songs, that marks a deliberate turn towards simplicity after the Decemberists wildly ambitious and acclaimed 2009 song-cycle The Hazards Of Love. Produced once again by Tucker Martine, The King Is Dead features special guest appearances by Americana luminary Gillian Welch and legendary R.E.M. guitarist Peter Buck.

The King Is Dead showcases the ways in which The Decemberists; Colin Meloy, Chris Funk, Jenny Conlee, Nate Query, and John Moen, sound just as glorious in simple, stripped-down compositions as they do on the elaborate structures that have defined their work for years. The album was recorded in a converted barn at Pendarvis Farm, an 80 acre estate of lush meadows, forest, and Mt. Hood views outside of Portland, and it was the concept of the barn, as recording space and as attitude, that informed the making of the album.

    March 16-20, 1992

March 16-20, 1992 is the third release from the alt-country pioneers Uncle Tupelo, named in reference to the five-day span in which the album was recorded. Produced by R.E.M.'s Peter Buck at John Keene Studios in Athens, GA, the almost entirely acoustic 15-song set is split equally between material written by Jay Farrar and Jeff Tweedy and traditional Appalachian folk songs.

Although the album's originals offer up early warnings of the growing differences between the two gifted songwriters with Farrar's earnest fare and Tweedy's more nihilistic leanings, the pristine sounding March 16-20, 1992 single-handedly re-energized rock's return to traditional country origins and forever solidified Uncle Tupelo as the boldest and brightest purveyors of the alt-country movement.

Grant Lee Buffalo is an Americana/indie Rock band based in Los Angeles, consisting of Grant Lee Phillips (vocals and guitar), Paul Kimble (bass) and Joey Peters (drums). All three were previously members of another Los Angeles band, Shiva Burlesque. They toured with major bands, including R.E.M., Pearl Jam, the Smashing Pumpkins and The Cranberries.

Their 1993 debut Fuzzy was a condent and solidly crafted piece of work, with Phillips' marvelous voice, ne and evocative songs. Fuzzy is deep and mysterious stuff, but also very beautiful and crafted with imagination and care. It's no wonder Grant Lee Buffalo became critic's darlings shortly after this was released. The Posies' 1988 debut is back

Little did Jon Auer and Ken

    to Scott McCaughey (R.E.M.,

favorite record store (who happened to do A&R for the indie
label PopLlama), that a power pop dynasty would begin.

    Originally released by the
band on cassette, then issued on LP (with one track removed for
the then-current time constraints), and later on CD, Failure set the
independent music world on fire. Omnivore Recordings is proud

This 2014 edition sees the original 12-track playlist restored and
available on vinyl for the first time since its original issue (and cut
    by Kevin Gray).

    A Treasury

A singular talent who passed almost unnoticed during his brief lifetime, Nick Drake
produced three studio albums of sombre beauty: FIVE LEAVES LEFT (1969),
BRYTER LAYTER (1970), and PINK MOON (1972). It's impossible to
keep count of the contemporary artists who cite Drake as an inspiration,
but a cursory round-up includes R.E.M., Paul Weller, Travis, Portishead,
The Coral, Coldplay, David Gray, Super Furry Animals and Beth Orton.
Along with household names of his creative lifetime - the Stones,
The Beatles, Marley, Hendrix - his albums have become an unofficial set text
    for anyone passionate about music.

A Treasury is the definitive collection of 15 classic songs by Nick Drake.
With all the profile that he received earlier in the year for his 'rarities' release,
this is the perfect album for curious music lovers to pick up.

    Acoustic Christmas

Acoustic Christmas is the new holiday album from Neil Diamond on Capitol Records. This collection includes new material alongside Diamond's singular renditions of yuletide classics. Acoustic Christmas was produced by Jacknife Lee (U2, R.E.M.) and Don Was (Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan), the pair behind Diamond's previous release, 2014's Melody Road. The new holiday album is distinguished by an intimacy reminiscent of what Lee refers to as parlor music, small family groups singing together at home, and, of course, Diamond's inimitable voice, which the producer likens to hot chocolate. The profound and legendary singer/songwriter has enjoyed a global career spanning five decades, and has sold a staggering 125+ million albums, making him one of the best-selling artists of all time.

    Murmur

Ranked 197/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

R.E.M. developed a strangely subdued variation of their trademark sound for their full-length debut album, Murmur by de-emphasizing the backbeat and accentuating the ambience of the guitars. Even though it's firmly rooted in the tradition of American folk-rock, post-punk, and garage rock, Murmur sounds eerily timeless, as if it appeared out of nowhere. Part of the distinctiveness lies in the atmospheric production, which exudes a detached sense of mystery, but it also comes from the remarkably accomplished songwriting. R.E.M. went on to produce a few albums that may have been on par with Murmur, but they never made anything that sounded quite like it. Reissued here on audiophile quality 180g vinyl with original packaging.
