    Trouble Maker

Rancid as a band has always been imbued with a sense of place: the blue collar neighborhoods where they grew up in Berkley, California, their place as individuals within their band, their band as part of a movement and their evolving sense of place in relation to the world at large. This year Tim Armstrong (vocals, guitar), Matt Freeman (bass, vocals), Lars Frederiksen (vocals, guitar), and Branden Steineckert (drums) return with their ninth studio album Trouble Maker.

Born in the midst of the post-Reagan economic downturn in the San Francisco Bay Area, the East Bay region specifically, Rancid came to light as Armstrong and Freeman were moving forward after the first band they founded, Operation Ivy, reached a friendly demise. As Rancid, the band took up the torch of social commentary and the examination of the local scene and instantly inflamed the newly revived punk community, setting the stage for what was to come. After having seen the American dream dwindle and fade within their country, community, and homes, Rancid put their description of its aftermath into their songs. Each album served as a layer cementing Rancid's natural place in punk. Their lyrical themes established their identity in the punk rock world while musically they incorporated horns, rockabilly bass lines, reggae rhythms, rasp, and distortion. Balancing their personal tales of love, loss, and heartbreak with attitude, Rancid gave their listeners a community.

Over the past 2 decades, Rancid has shown awareness of their changing environment and have established their place in it, all while never losing sight of themselves as individuals or as a band.

    Let The Dominoes Fall

Rancid's Let The Dominoes Fall is essential Rancid: a readymade punk classic that will take its place beside And Out Come the Wolves as a touchstone of the genre, filled with two-minute gems that every kid in America will be singing along with this summer. Lead by first single Last One To Die, a defiant anthem of brotherhood and commitment that's already tearing it up at modern rock radio, Let the Dominoes Fall both continues and expands on Rancid's legacy, as the new songs show a lyrical depth perhaps best shown in the two songs that center the album, Civilian Ways and The Bravest Kids. Punk has often seen the world as us vs. them, but with these two songs, a sensitive portrait of a returning serviceman and a loving tribute to those that serve, Rancid show empathy for working Americans that recalls the songs of Springsteen or Petty. Rancid have set their sights on greater things and hit the bullseye. Also features guest star Booker T. on Hammond organ on the super danceable Up To No Good.

    ...Honor Is All We Know

Rancid's new record Honor Is All We Know is much like their other records in
the sense that it is filled with the stories and characters that populate the
band's lives, and reflects the cultural and political climate in which it was
written and recorded. It has classic Rancid songcraft: two minute songs packed
with melody, personally empathetic and politically denunciatory. But Honor
Is All We Know is also unique in that it is filled with the growing insight of
a band who has been doing this for a while now: it feels natural and organic,
written without an agenda or a bone to pick, rather the culmination of lives
lived largely with a keen interest in the world and a sense of brotherhood.

In the late 1980's Tim Armstrong and Matt Freeman of Rancid were founders of
arguably the most influential band from the Bay Area Operation Ivy. Operation
Ivy has been cited by everyone from Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong to Fat
Mike of NOFX as the group that most affected the sound of their own bands.
Rancid has lead in extensive career since those days back in the East Bay including selling nearly 3 million albums with one Platinum album and one Gold
Record under their belts (And Out Come the Wolves, Let's Go). In the midst of
anniversaries for both albums, Rancid will be playing some high-profile festival shows in 2015, and the moment has never been better for old and new fans to
remind themselves of the cultural force and punk rock power of Rancid.

    Devils Brigade

Devils Brigade is an all-star punk group featuring Matt Freeman and Tim Armstrong of Rancid and DJ Bonebrake, drummer of X and the Knitters. Rancid fans have always cherished Matts deep punk growl on his featured songs on Rancid albums, and now Devils Brigade brings his singing, rockabilly-inspired bass slap, and classic punk songwriting to the fore. With Tim Armstrongs Duane Eddy lead guitar and the rock-steady rhythm of DJ Bonebrake, Devils Brigade offers up twelve songs that mix equal parts Johnny Cash, the Pogues, and Sun rockabilly, in a combustible cocktail that will have fans slamming on this falls tour with the Street Dogs. On tracks like Bridge of Gold with vocals by Armstrong, the band stretches out, adding mandolin and banjo to their sound, while Ride Harley Ride features some slinky vibraphone. Also features guest vocals from Rancids Lars Frederikson.

    In A Warzone

Transplants are back with a ferocious new album, In a Warzone, the first
for the legendary punk collective in overseven years. Tim Armstrong
(Operation Ivy, Rancid), Travis Barker(Blink 182) and notorious front
man "Skinhead Rob" Aston kick off the record with a title track that sets
the tone for the mayhem to follow:fourtothefloor punk rock featuring
raging vocals from Aston, guitar and singalong choruses from Armstrong,
and a supercharged hardcore beat from Barker. "When we started this
band 13 years ago, we weren't worried about who was going to like us,"
states frontman Aston. "We still aren't. In a Warzone is more raw and
stripped down than our previous releases. It's our best album. It's always
been difficult to classify Transplants. But at the end of the day, we're a
punk rock band. We make what ever type of music we want." With US
touring planned through summer and into fall, Transplants are ready to
scratch the itch of longtime fans, while introducing a new generation to
    the fury of true punk.

Transplants: Tim Armstrong (vocals, guitar, bass, samples); Rob Aston (vocals); Travis Barker (drums). Additional personnel: Davy Havock, Son Doobie, Eric Ozenick (vocals); Dave Garlock (guitar, synthesizer, bass, background vocals); Craig Fairbaugh (guitar); Vic Ruggiero (piano, Hammond B-3 organ); Matt Freeman (bass); Lars Frederiksen (background vocals); Brody Armstrong. The self-titled Transplants album represents Rancid vocalist Tim Armstrong's variant on that great rock & roll staple, the side project. As is often the case with such endeavors by members of famous bands, TRANSPLANTS was recorded bit by bit over the course of a couple of years (presumably during Armstrong's downtime from Rancid). Still, it all hangs together with its raw, organic vibe. Though loops and synthesizer are present nearly every cut, the album maintains an agreeably rough-and-ready rock & roll feel. Fans of Rancid should feel at home with the punk quotient here, but healthy doses of hip-hop, funk, and reggae are injected into the mix as well, and Armstrong shares vocals with cohort Rob Aston throughout the album.

Spy Rock Road (And Other Stories)

Thirty years ago, long before there was such a thing as Gilman Street, Green Day, or the East Bay pop punk explosion, three guys got together in an off-the-grid hippie wilderness known as Spy Rock, at the heart of Northern California's legendary Emerald Triangle. They hooked their amps up to their solar panels, made up a couple songs about living on the backside of nowhere, and The Lookouts were born. It would be the first time 12-year-old Tre Cool ever laid hands on a drumstick or a set of drums, but over the following five and a half years he honed the skills that he would put to use in his second band, Green Day, headlining amphitheaters and stadiums, winning Grammy Awards, and being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with his second band. Guitarist and singer Larry Livermore would go on to co-found Lookout Records, the indie label that introduced Green Day, and many other bands, to the world. Together with bassist (and future forest ranger) Kain Kong, and with guest appearances by Operation Ivy and Rancid's Tim Armstrong and Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong, The Lookouts produced two albums, two EPs, and several compilation tracks, the best of which are featured on this double LP. Also included is a track from The Lookouts' very first demo tape, recorded in 1985, which features Tre singing backups in his as yet unbroken three-and-a-half-octave soprano.

    Kiss Kiss Kill Kill

Their third release finds the band perfectly poised between the raw punk energy of their 2004 debut, Hell Yeah, and the brash, singalong pop of 2006's Bring It On. While never dropping their trademark sexy, horror flick flair, Kiss Kiss Kill Kill brings back the rawness and immediacy that's made them the premier touring band in the scene. They just finished two tours with the Dropkick Murphys and a tour with Danzig, have shared the stage with the likes of Rancid and The Offspring, and have been on several Warped Tour runs. RIYL: Nekromantix, Rev. Horton Heat, Siouxsie And The Banshees, X, Stray Cats, surf, punk, ska, and good ol' rock 'n' roll.

    Broadcasting

In 2005, COMEBACK KID joined VICTORY RECORDS and released the astonishing hardcore masterpiece, Wake The Dead, the follow-up to their acclaimed debut, Turn It Around. Wake The Dead was a call to arms. It was life changing and life affirming. It was the communique‚ that the restless youth of the world desperately needed. Punknews.org called it a hands-down 10 out of 10. Wake The Dead made COMEBACK KID one of the most celebrated hardcore bands of new millennium. The band responded to the call and toured the globe several times over in honest hardcore fashion. They played any festival, VFW hall and basement that would have them. Countries that do not even speak the band's language still understood the message and hailed COMEBACK KID as one of today's premier hardcore bands and made them one of the most successful bands in the genre.

The band entered 2007 with a new record that will further their message of community and strengthen the perseverance and pride of the hardcore scene. Broadcasting is the band's monstrous collection of anthems that will inspire listeners to tear into the pit, and chant along as if their lungs depended on it. Broadcasting combines breakneck hardcore punk rock in the tradition of MINOR THREAT, BAD BRAINS and 7 SECONDS with forward thinking lyrics and ferocious melodies similar to RISE AGAINST, RANCID and BAD RELIGION. It is the band's most ambitious record and was one of 2007's most anticipated releases.

No Mercy - Widespread Bloodshed (Picture Disc)

Reissue Of The Long Out Of Print Legendary No Mercy 1987 Release

Picture Disc LP Limited To 750 Copies

Line Up Features Mike Muir, Mike Clark, Ric Clayton, & Sal Troy

The band started in 1982 and featured lead vocalist Keven Guercio, guitarist Mike Clark, bassist Ken Blakley later replaced by Ric Rancid Clayton (the
artist who designed the Suicidal Tendencies logo as well as the shirts on S.T.'s first album) and drummer Sal Troy. Guercio recorded a few demos and
the tracks on the Welcome to Venice (1985) compilation before leaving and moving to Jackson Hole, WY and was replaced by Suicidal Tendencies
vocalist Mike Muir. Muir signed them to his independent label Suicidal Records.

In 1987 No Mercy released their first and only album Widespread Bloodshed Love Runs Red, and were about to record their second album with many
new songs already written but Clayton and Troy quit. Instead of recruiting new members, Muir decided to merge the two bands by having Clark join
    Suicidal Tendencies.

Clark took over much of the songwriting duties for Suicidal, shifting its style more to a melodic thrash metal sound similar to No Mercy's and what would
have been No Mercy's second album became Suicidal Tendencies' third album, How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today.

    Why Love Now

Pissed Jeans have been making gnarly noise for 13 years, and on their
fifth album, Why Love Now, the male-fronted quartet is taking aim at
the mundane discomforts of modern life-from fetish webcams to
office-supply deliveries. Rock bands can retreat to the safety of what
rock bands usually sing about. So 60 years from now, when no one
has a telephone, bands will be writing songs like, 'I'm waiting for her
to call me on my telephone.' Kids are going to be like, 'Grandpa, tell
me, what was that?' I'd rather not shy away from talking about the
internet or interactions in 2016, says frontman Matt Korvette.

Pissed Jeans' gutter-scraped amalgamation of sludge, punk, noise,
and bracing wit make the band-Korvette, Brad Fry (guitar), Randy
Huth (bass) and Sean McGuinness (drums)-a release valve for a
world where absurdity seems in a constant battle trying to outdo
itself. Why Love Now picks at the bursting seams that are barely
holding 21st-century life together. Take the grinding rave-up The Bar
Is Low, which, according to Korvette, is about how every guy seems
to be revealing themselves as a shithead. It seems like every guy is
getting outed, across every board of entertainment and politics and
music. There's no guy that isn't a total creep.

The lyrics on Why Love Now are particularly pointed about gender
relations and the minefield they present in 2016. 'It's Your Knees' is
about the endless, unrequested, commenting on if you'd fuck a girl.
'My great aunt won a cooking contest.' 'Oh, that's pretty hot. I'd hit
that,' says Korvette. On Love Without Emotion Korvette channels
Nick Cave's guttural side while bemoaning his detachment over
cavernous guitars. Ignorecam twists the idea of fetish cam shows-
where the woman just ignores you and watches TV or eats macaroni
and cheese or talks on the phone-into a showcase for Korvette's
rancid yelp and his bandmates' pummeling rock.

As they did on their last album, 2013's Honeys, Pissed Jeans offer a
couple of fuck that shit type songs about the working world. And the
startling I'm A Man, which comes at the album's midpoint, finds
author Lindsay Hunter (Ugly Girls) taking center stage, delivering a
    self-penned monologue of W.B. Mason-inspired erotica-office small
talk about pens and coffee given just enough of a twist to expose its
filthy underside, with Hunter adopting a grimacing menace that
makes its depiction of curdled masculinity even more harrowing.

No Wave legend Lydia Lunch shacked up in Philadelphia to produce
Why Love Now alongside local metal legend Arthur Rizk (Eternal
Champion, Goat Semen). I knew she wasn't a traditional producer,
Korvette says of Lunch. I like how she's so cool and really intimidating.
She ended up being so fucking awesome and crazy. She was
super into it, constantly threatening to bend us over the bathtub. I'm
not really sure what that entails, but I know she probably wasn't
joking." The combination of Lunch's spiritual guidance and Rizk's
technical prowess supercharged Pissed Jeans, and the bracing Why
Love Now documents them at their grimy, grinning best. While its
references may be very early-21st-century, its willingness to state its
case cement it as an album in line with punk's tradition of turning
norms on their heads and shaking them loose.

Personnel includes: Buju Banton, Gramps, LMS, Beres Hammond, Luciano, Stephen Marley, Rancid, Wayne Wonder. Producers include: Donovan Germain, Mark Myrie, Tyrone Downie, Stephen Marsden, Tony Kelly. The once controversial Buju Banton, vilified for his anti-homosexual sentiments on his early single Boom Bye Bye and for his typically violent and slack dancehall, artistically turned the corner in 1995 with the release of the conscious and wistful Til Shiloh. The follow-up in 1998, Inna Heights, was equally spiritual and devoid of negativity. The third installment in this awakening is Unchained Spirit, released in September of 2000: a vital and rhythmic mix of homegrown Jamaican philosophy, biblical harmonizing, and just plain eerie dancehall. Banton sets the album off with a slow chant of Psalm 23, giving the album a spiritual center with which the rest radiates.

Punk stalwarts GBH will release a new album, Momentum, via Hellcat Records. "We're always looking forward," says Colin Abrahall (vocals), "next gig, next tour, next album. For us, it is all about momentum. At this point, if we stopped moving forward we'd just fall over".

Momentum was recorded at Muther's Studio in GBH's hometown of Birmingham, England. Colin explains: "We laid down all kinds of takes on the songs which made the mixing interesting as we'd send it all off to Michael (Rosen - Engineer) and him and Lars (Fredericksen - Rancid) would send back tracks. You'd think something was maybe a glitch or whatever and it'd come back and we'd listen and think 'that's f*cking amazing'!"

GBH formed in 1978 in Birmingham, England. The band have released 11 albums, including City Baby Attacked By Rats (1982, Clay), City Babys Revenge (1982, Clay), Midnight Madness and Beyond (1986, Rough Justice), No Need To Panic (1987, Rough Justice), A Fridge Too Far (1989, Rough Justice), From Here To Reality (1990, Rough Justice), Church of the Truly Warped (1992, Rough Justice), Punk Junkies (1996, We Bite), Ha Ha (2002, Go Kart), Cruel and Unusual (2004, Idol), Perfume and Piss (2010, Hellcat).

    Cody

Cody isn't an album that changed everything for Joyce Manor, but Joyce Manor had to change a bit to make their album Cody. Since the release of their 2014 Epitaph debut Never Hungover Again, guitarist and singer Barry Johnson has taught himself the meditation techniques championed by the Beatles and director David Lynch, and he found he was suddenly wide open. Before, songs were labor; now they were revelations, appearing almost fully formed in his head before he had time to even catch them on a voicemail to himself.

For Cody, the band camped out in the studio for two months with producer Rob Schnapf, credited on classics by Elliott Smith, Guided By Voices, Saves The Day and Rancid, all in the Joyce Manor record collections, of course. With Schnapf's help, they'd explore deeper arrangements, new pre-production techniques, and different ways of working both together and with someone else. Johnson says, "It was the first time we really used the studio to our advantage. I felt like I could get a better grasp on what we could do. We always recorded like a punk band-go in and lay 'em down! Just get good takes! And this time we tried a lot more."

For Cody, they added new drummer Jeff Enzor to the band alongside bassist Matt Ebert and guitarist Chase Knobbe. With Rob Schnapf's able help as a de facto fifth member of the band, Joyce Manor found itself bristling with inspiration. Now more than ever, says Johnson, he felt he could trust himself and his bandmates to take the risks to make the music they wanted to make. The result is a record that dares to be humble, intimate and unapologetically human.
