First Time On 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl!
Ray Charles' Stunning Atlantic Records Debut!
The One That Started The Genius Of Soul Phenomenon!
Mastered For The First Time From The Original Monophonic Atlantic Records Tapes By Joe Reagoso
Ray Charles was the premiere architect singer/songwriter/musician whose "genius" of combining jazz, blues
with gospel most certainly began the American soul music movement. This modern form of R&B which would become
an American way of life forever etched itself in total with the release of his classic #1 hit single I Got a Woman from
his stunning debut 1957 album Ray Charles.
Fused with heavy blues, gospel and rock and roll, I Got a Woman was one of Ray's very first top charting hits
soon to be followed by other #1 smash hit singles like Mess Around and A Fool for You. More hit singles graced his first
album as well with Hallelujah I Love Her So, Ain't That Love and This Little Girl of Mine. The Ray Charles album itself
on its own merit is truly a Greatest Hits LP, whereby most of these early Ray Charles' hit tracks have been covered
hundreds of times by some of the most important voices in popular music, like The Beatles, Elvis Presley, The Steve
Miller Band, Van Morrison, Peggy Lee, Johnny Winter, Jerry Lee Lewis, Stevie Wonder and many others.
Also included on this debut masterpiece are some of Ray Charles' more definitive blues rockers like the powerful
Come Back Baby, the rockin' Greenbacks, the #1 blues rocker Mary Ann, and the brilliant soul sounds of Don't You
Know, Drown in My Own Tears and Losing Hand.
The Ray Charles album forever etched the name superstar and genius with Ray Charles as the LP reached the
upper rungs of the popular, jazz and R&B charts and has become an American institution which will forever stand the
test of time. Being one of his rarest LP's of his career, the magnificent album has not been officially released on vinyl
in over five decades and fetches hundreds of dollars for a mint used copy if you can even find one.
Friday Music is very honored to announce the first time ever 180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl LP of the Ray Charles'
classic Ray Charles. As another installment in our treasured Ray Charles/Friday Music 180 Gram Audiophile Series, his
amazing debut LP is mastered from the original monophonic Atlantic Records' tapes by Joe Reagoso at Friday Music
Studios and at Capitol Mastering with Ron McMaster. This masterwork truly sounds exceptional and will become one
of the more important roots albums to be reissued in quite some time for the audiophile vinyl domain.
This limited edition release also comes with the original album cover graphics of Marvin Israel, featuring the
stunning liner notes by Guy Remark.
The album will be packaged in a poly bag to preserve the rich details of the legendary cover art as well as a poly

I Remember Brother RayDavid 'Fathead' Newmanï's warm tone, occasionally terse phrasing, and always heartfelt delivery placed him in high demand by artists as diverse as B.B. King, Herbie Mann, Jane Monheit, and Gregg Allman. With over twenty recordings to his name, I Remember Brother Ray stands as an understated highlight, a record that doesn't so much jump out at you as it does gently sidle up beside you and ingratiates itself with its warmth and affability. Newman got his first big break with Ray Charles in the early '50s, playing in his band from '54 through '64 and subsequently making numerous guest appearances over the years. And so Newman entered the studio of another legend, engineer Rudy Van Gelder just two months after Charles' death to record I Remember Brother Ray, a tribute to the jazzier side of a man who regarded himself as a jazz singer anyway.
The record evokes the ambience of a smoky bar in the early hours of the morning. Newman assembled a quintet as comfortable with the tender balladry of Georgia on My Mind as it is the soul-drenched blues of Drown in My Tears. Charles believed that the ability to play jazz permits the ability to cross over into other genres, and the playing on I Remember Brother Ray clearly supports his conviction.
While there were quite a few Ray Charles tributes, few equaled I Remember Brother Ray for its grace, integrity, honesty, and pure connection to the true essence of Charles' legacy.1. Hit The Road Jack

Tribute to Uncle RayImport
Wonder's second LP, recorded and released when he was only 12 years old, is a tribute to Ray Charles. As the original liner notes state, Little Stevie Wonder, Tamla's 11-year-old musical genius, is blind, a similarity he shares with a famed musician and vocalist of today. Though this is perhaps not the most subtle of tribute albums and a clear cash in attempt from Motown, who were still looking for a way to market their new-found talent, the results are still fantastic. Little Stevie powers his way through a grip of Charles' classics as well as some original songs done in the Charles style and while the LP failed to score a hit, it's an enjoyable listen that shows a glimpse of the super star talent that was soon to emerge.1. Whoa! Now we're getting into the big leagues. Ray Charles, cut from the original three-track tapes, pressed on 200-gram vinyl at Quality Record Pressings. Yowsa! And not just any Ray Charles title, mind you. Ray Charles and Betty Carter! Analogue Productions has reissued a whole lot of classics - a whole lot - but there aren't many of 'em that are a much bigger deal than this.
This is such a romantic album. Such a warm album. Such a rich album. And, ooh, the sound! Turn the lights down. Grab that special someone. Drop the needle. And as our Acoustic Sounds/Analogue Productions owner would say, If nothing happens, don't blame the record!
Originally released in 1961 on ABC-Paramount, Ray Charles and Betty Carter features startling dynamics, with Marty Paich's arrangements showcasing both punchy brass and lush strings. The showstopper, Baby, It's Cold Outside, topped the R&B charts upon its release. And jazz singer Betty Carter's vocal prowess shines on Cocktails For Two and Alone Together. It's A Shame About RayAfter numerous line-up changes and independent releases, the Lemonheads signed to Atlantic Records for their 1990 release Lovey. On It's a Shame About Ray (1992), songwriter Evan Dando and Juliana Hateld perfected their signature style of Punk- Pop-meets-Folk-Rock. The album is a beautiful collection of sunny melodies and hooks, delivered with typical nonchalance by Dando. A smorgasbord of immediately accessible and thoroughly catchy songs, his laid-back observations of middle-class outcasts are little gems in their own right.
Highlights are the heartbroken title track, "Confetti", "Bit Part In Your Life," the love letter to substances "My Drug Buddy," or the wonderful "Alison's Starting to Happen," where a girl nds herself as she discovers Punk Rock. His warm, friendly voice is offset by Juliana Hateld's girlish harmonies, giving the songs an emotional resonance.1. Rockin' Stroll

Stevie Ray Vaughan: Live At Carnegie HallImport

Featuring Dr. John & Jimmie Vaughan
Available On Vinyl For The First Time!
Live at Carnegie Hall is a live Texas blues album by Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble, released in 1997. The concert was recorded at New York City's Carnegie Hall on October 4, 1984, a day after Vaughan's thirtieth birthday (leading to Vaughan's description of the show as My best birthday ever ... forever).
Special guests included drummer George Rains, Dr. John on keyboards, the Roomful of Blues horn section, brother Jimmie Vaughan on guitar, and vocalist Angela Strehli. This was the first and only time in the band's history that the trio was expanded.
The set list was in large part Vaughan's personal, private, tribute to his role models; he played tunes by Guitar Slim, Albert Collins, and Albert King, all musicians who never got to perform in the legendary concert hall. The album charted on the Billboard 200, and was the #1 Blues album for eight weeks.LP 1

Aretha With The Ray Bryant Combo (Speakers Corner)As is well known, early relationships are not always blessed, and it is certainly no secret that the collaboration between Aretha Franklin and Columbia's record producer John H. Hammond did not last long. Hammond's later attempts to candy Franklin's irrepressible natural voice with sugary arrangements and studio gimmicks did not go down well with the public. On the first Franklin disc from Columbia, however, it was honeymoon all the way. With a successful mix of pop and jazz standards, the super talent - Aretha had just turned 18 years old - brought her vocal chords to vibrate. Fired on with youthful Élan, these evergreens sound so fresh, new and intoxicating that the question of their genre is quite irrelevant. From a seesawing R & B (Won't Be Long) via bell-like waves of melody (Over The Rainbow) right up to the freely styled, jazzy Gershwin classic It Ain't Necessarily So - everything is right there! The Ray Bryant Trio - augmented with winds - proves itself a formidable ensemble with true presence yet unobtrusive accompaniment. If you compare the mature performances of Aretha Franklin in her subsequent years with Atlantic, you will soon recognize that the later 'First Lady of Soul' was in full command of her profession right from the very beginning.
This Speakers Corner LP was remastered using pure analogue components only, from the master tapes through to the cutting head. All royalties and mechanical rights have been paid.

About Speakers Corner
At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.
During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.
A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.
We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.
We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.
To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.1. Won't Be Long

Rays of Darkness
"One of the most distinctive bands of
the 21st Century." - Pitchfork
"MONO have now well and truly
sealed their place in the pantheon of
rock history." - Rock Sound
When MONO began in 1999, they set out with a simple mission:
From bliss to bludgeon, no matter how long or winding the path
may be. Their debut album, Under The Pipal Tree, outlined that
mission in twisted, psychedelic fury. Subsequent albums would see
the band honing their craft, mastering their mission, and ultimately
abandoning that path in favor of more grandiose pursuits. Flanked
by increasingly larger orchestras, MONO performed live at some of
the most prestigious venues in New York City, London, Tokyo, and
Australia. MONO had become an orchestral rock band, a spectacle
of extreme melancholy and melodrama. By 2012's For My Parents,
the band had finally reached the logical conclusion of that era; it
was time to remember where they started, and to rethink where
they were heading. Less strings? No strings? Louder? Quieter?
Lighter? Darker? Yes.
The Last Dawn and Rays of Darkness are a pair of new albums by
MONO. Recorded simultaneously yet conceptually and creatively
disparate, the two act as both opposing and complementary sides
to a story. No strangers to narratives, the twin albums explore
familiar themes for the band: Hope and hopelessness, love and
loss, immense joy and unspeakable pain. Those elemental parts of
life and the complicated relationships they create have never been
more resonant through MONO's music than they are here.
Rays of Darkness is the first MONO album in 15 years to feature
no orchestral instruments whatsoever. That fact alone is
remarkable given the band's reputation for sweeping, dramatic
instrumentals that recall Oscar-worthy film scores. Instead, Rays of
Darkness more closely resembles a jet engine taking off inside a
small, crowded auditorium. It is MONO's blackest album ever, a
collection of scorched riffs, doom rhythms, and an unexpected
contribution from post-hardcore pioneer Tetsu Fukagawa of Envy.
The album ends with the smoldering wreckage of distorted guitars
and ominous drones playing out a eulogy to the days when MONO
shot blinding rays of light through seemingly endless darkness.1. Recoil, Ignite

Hendrix Has NEVER Sounded Better on Any Format or Pressing!
First Rays Of The New Rising Sun, the last graceful gesture by pioneering guitarist Jimi Hendrix, is the first album prepared under the supervision of his family. It compiles 17 songs whose creation span from March of 1968 to the last sessions at Electric Lady Studios in August of 1970, and which Hendrix inteded for release on this album, which was being made at the time of his tragic death. The material finds Hendrix expanding upon the parameters of his voice, concentrating on his singing while also embracing soul music more than he had on his other recordings. Hence, listeners hear funkier, bluesier, and R&B-slanted elements on this staggering set, which in no way comes off as a cheaply thrown-together posthumous release. Rather, given the level of experimental psychedelic exploration and dreamlike tones throughout, First Rays of the New Rising Sun rightly takes its place as Hendrix's final studio album. And it's never sounded so amazing.
Mastered from the original analog tapes, cut by legendary engineer George Marino on upgraded equipment at Sterling Sound, and pressed on 180-gram virgin vinyl at RTI, this LP is a sonic knockout on par with the very best audiophile recordings. It's no wonder that this release helps spearhead Legacy Recordings' unprecented 2010 Jimi Hendrix Catalog Project of reissues and new releases from the greatest guitar player in history. Albums don't get more essential than this.
Originally released in 1997, First Rays Of The New Rising Sun boasts many of Hendrixs most creative musical achievements, including Night Bird Flying, Angel, Dolly Dagger, Hey Baby (New Rising Sun), and In From The Storm. Rock Art & The X-Ray StyleRock Art and the X-Ray Style is the debut album by Joe Strummer and the Mescaleros, released in 1999. This album featured the band in its first incarnation: Joe Strummer and Antony Genn on guitar and vocals, Martin Slattery playing keyboards and guitar, Steve Smiley Barnard on drums, Pablo Cook on other percussion instruments, and Scott Shields on bass. Richard Flack also did engineering on the album. The record marked Strummer's re-emergence from a long absence in the music scene, his last record being 1989's Earthquake Weather. The album begins with Tony Adams, a track which sounds not unlike Strummer's previous work with The Clash. Saxophone riffs are juxtaposed with reggae inspired guitar, as Strummer recites lyrics detailing a catastrophe hitting New York City. Till The Sun Turns BlackRay LaMontagne emerged in 2004 from a secluded family life in Maine seemingly fully formed as a singer, songwriter and performer. His 2004 debut, Trouble, became one of that year's most acclaimed releases, spawning an instant classic single in the album's title track. He returned two years later with the stunning Till The Sun Turns Black, a deeply personal work haunted by a complex and compelling melancholy. The album proved both another popular and critical success, debuting in the top 30 on the Billboard charts and further marking Ray LaMontagne as a major American artist.
Now, these two classic albums that introduced Ray LaMontagne's lush, expansive soundscape and songwriting abilities are available here on 180g vinyl for the first time!1. Be Here Now
