Country music's "Gentle Giant" re-teams with award-winning producer Garth Fundis for Reflections, the follow up to 2012's well-received comeback album
And So It Goes. Don Williams, a Country Music Hall of Fame member, dominated for decades as a country hit maker and was dubbed "the Gentle Giant"
because of his unique blend of commanding presence and that laid-back, easy style-cutting across national and genre boundaries. Those personal and
musical qualities that stood out strongly across the 1970s, '80s and '90s, came full circle both in 2012, as Williams delivered the masterful And So It Goes,
and today, as he readies the release of Reflections.

Now, digging deeper into his winning, self-assured ease and revered musical style, Williams delivers a new collection of songs on Reflections that are
sure to become instant classics. Included are numbers penned by legends Townes Van Zandt, Merle Haggard, Jesse Winchester and others, setting the
bar high and requiring the talents of only someone of Williams' caliber to deliver them as intended.

    Reflections Revised

Special Edition Of Reflections Featuring Five Bonus Tracks

From classical cover band devoted exclusively to performing Metallica's symphony-friendly epics to all purpose string ensemble interpreters of other heavy metal bands' music for the cello, to composers of original material fit to mingle with even more metallic translations, Finland's Apocalyptica had come a long way in the span of their first three albums. And, naturally, there were bound to be further innovations lined up for the band's fourth opus, Reflections, which arrived in 2003 bearing not a single heavy metal cover, and introducing several unexpected innovations into Apocalyptica's m.o., to boot. Chief among these was the addition of a drummer behind the group (recently paired down from quartet to trio), and since Apocalyptica's virtuosos would hardly stand for anything short of brilliance for such an assignment, that percussionist wound up being none other than Slayer legend Dave Lombardo, on whose Grip Inc. albums, group leader Eicca Toppinen had conveniently performed as well. One of those rare rock drummers whose sound and style is instantly recognizable, Lombardo was more than up to the task, providing the necessary flailing-limbs thrust behind dramatically driving originals like Prologue (Apprehension), Somewhere Around Nothing, and Resurrection (which sounds like it should have originated as a metal song, but didn't). Apocalyptica also does without him on several compositions, of course, but they keep the experimentation coming by adding a pianist for the exquisite ballad Far Away, discreet synth effects for the multi-faceted Cohkka, full-on drum machines for Heat, and a Spanish horn section for Toreador II -- Ole! And for those fans who simply want to hear them shred, there's plenty of that throughout this set, with the suitably named Pandemonium offering an especially blinding display. All in all, Apocalyptica's first foray into all-original material is nothing short of triumphant, and an eye opener for rock music fans who simply came along because of the Metallica connection. Recommended.

    Shadows And Reflections

Marc's distinctive vocals have rarely sounded richer and warmer. - Record Collector

Almond's voice--although it no longer veers out of tune like it used to so endearingly in the 80s--is still enthralling. - The Guardian

'Shadows And Reflections' is the new album by Marc Almond released by BMG. It features sumptuous arrangements of iconic torch songs and60's orchestral pop for which he is beloved, as well as two new original compositions. The album features songs written or recorded by artists such as Burt Bacharach, The Action, The Yardbirds, Bobby Darin, Julie Driscoll, Billy Fury and the Young Rascals. The album thematically begins and ends in an apartment. It's about this guy that's living in a luxury expansive glass apartment overlooking the city, filled with sculptures and beautiful things, an empty soulless shell, surrounded by absurd wealth. He is sitting alone and I imagine listening to this music, possibly the songs that make up this album. He's rich in the bank but the poorest person you know.

2017 cements the 60th Birthday year for the singer who the Observer noted, has never stood still and comes after the great success of the Top 10 album 'Hits And Pieces', which was followed by a sold-out Spring tour including a triumphant show at London's Roundhouse.

    Reflection

Reflection is the latest work in a long series. It started (as far as record releases are concerned) with Discreet Music in 1975 ( - or did it start with the first Fripp and Eno album in 1973? Or did it start with the first original piece of music I ever made, at Ipswich Art School in 1965 - recordings of a metal lampshade slowed down to half and quarter speed, all overlaid?)

Anyway, it's the music that I later called 'Ambient'. I don't think I understand what that term stands for anymore - it seems to have swollen to accommodate some quite unexpected bedfellows - but I still use it to distinguish it from pieces of music that have fixed duration and rhythmically connected, locked together elements.

The pedigree of this piece includes Thursday Afternoon, Neroli (whose subtitle is Thinking Music IV) and LUX. I've made a lot of thinking music, but most of it I've kept for myself. Now I notice that people are using some of those earlier records in the way that I use them - as provocative spaces for thinking - so I feel more inclined to make them public.

Pieces like this have another name: they're GENERATIVE. By that I mean they make themselves. My job as a composer is to set in place a group of sounds and phrases, and then some rules which decide what happens to them. I then set the whole system playing and see what it does, adjusting the sounds and the phrases and the rules until I get something I'm happy with. Because those rules are probabilistic ( - often taking the form 'perform operation x, y percent of the time') the piece unfolds differently every time it is activated. What you have here is a recording of one of those unfoldings.

    Reflection

Chalk Circle existed in the Washington, DC metro area punk/hardcore scene between 1981 and 1983. They were the first all-female rock/punk band to ever record and perform in DC, and in January of 2011 their recorded output will finally be available in one place: on the Re flection LP, released by both Mississippi Records and Post Present Medium. The 12 songs on this release are from compilations on Outside Records and WGNS, live shows and unreleased recordings. It also comes with a 16-page booklet compiled by guitarist/vocalist Sharon Cheslow that tells the Chalk Circle story in its entirety for the first time. The booklet features photographs, press clippings and extensive liner notes by renowned musician and producer Don Fleming, whose band Velvet Monkeys headlined Chalk Circle's first shows.

Chalk Circle, although personally part of the birth of hardcore as friends and fans of the Discord scene, musically never fit into the stringent rules of that scene. They sound like they were from a time where experimentation was rewarded, where new ideas were examined and transformed by people who were curious and excited to live in the moment. The ideas were then transformed again, when the moment changed.

In an interview by Alex Guiness in 1982, in response to a question about how to label Chalk Circle, vocalist/guitarist Mary Green answered, We'll create our own tag. For those who want a tag, well, think about the raw experimental U.S. punk of Flipper, Bush Tetras, and The Minutemen, or the innovative post-punk of Delta 5, The Swell Maps, Liliput, and The Slits. Think about the youthful energy of DC Hardcore and the enthusiasm of teenagers making music that comes from the heart and not from copying ri ffs from rock records. Think about the straight-laced nature of the nation's capital and the joy of creating your own culture. Think about the promise of punk to teenage women. Chalk Circle expresses all this through music that is spirited, unique, creative, powerful and fun.

Universal Music Enterprises Continues Its "Respect The Classics" Tribute To Many Of Hip-hop's Finest With The Vinyl Reissue Of Rap Icon Talib Kweli's
    Historic Rawkus Records Catalog

After releasing a handful of essential 12s on various Rawkus Records projects in the late '90s, Talib Kweli and DJ Hi-Tek were on the verge of becoming one of hip-hop's best-kept secrets. Yet their original incarnation as a duo expanded into a triumvirate with the inclusion of Mos Def and transformed their eventual manifestation into Black Star, thwarting their initial bid for acclaim. While Kweli's stardom may have been initially eclipsed by his more charismatic cohort, Mos Def, Reflection Eternal houses enough merit to establish Talib as one of this generation's most poetic MCs. Kweli is a rare MC, as his lyricism resounds with a knowledge that transcends his still tender age. He does not aspire to reprogram the masses with this album, just rehabilitate them, as he laments on The Blast: They ask me what I'm writing for/I'm writing to show you what we fighting for. In an effort to celebrate life, Kweli breaks down hip-hop's obsession with death on Good Mourning and Too Late. But it is his varied lyrical content that is most inspiring, effortlessly transitioning from the poignant circle-of-life epic For Women to the rugged Some Kind of Wonderful and Down for the Count, featuring Rah Digga and Xzibit. While the unassuming, largely minimalist grooves that Hi-Tek supplied on Black Star's debut longed for a dramatic flair, he displays a remarkable maturation on Reflection Eternal. In fact, Tek's loping keyboard wails, soulful staccato claps, and shimmering piano loops are often sublime in their arrangement and outcome. Though Kweli and Hi-Tek's debut harbors over-ambitious tendencies, clocking in at over 70 minutes in length, they are a duo that will undoubtedly stain their memory into hip-hop's collective memory with this noteworthy debut. Welcome to the new generation of Native Tongue speaking.

While it's difficult for any artist to find and gain success, the real struggle comes with sustaining it. Silverstein are one of those rare artists that have found a way to stand the test of time. Their formula is no secret: they have been going at full speed, nonstop fort he past 17 years. They've taken no breaks between touring and recording, and have consistently produced quality albums and played sold out shows across the world. Since their inception, they've played over 1,800 shows and sold over 1 million albums. The band's most recent headline tour resulted in 90% sell out business, while playing 1,000 capacity venues in 40 US major markets. Silverstein will also be appearing on the entire 2017 Vans Warped Tour, proving that the band's relevance is still thriving.

Silverstein's newest album, "Dead Reflection" is one of the band's strongest albums to date. These 12 songs are each uniquely crafted to showcase the band's signature mixture of emotional screams and soaring melodies. Every band writes one record that truly captures their essence and showcases their character. It is the album immediately recommended when discovering a band's discography. This will become Silverstein's trademark album.

"Dead Reflection" is a timeless album. This is Silverstein at the top of their game, and they are proving that after 17 years of continued success, they can still bring something newa nd exciting to the table.

WINDHAND'S debut Relapse full length is nothing short of transcendent. On its surface it is a top 5 of all time doom record, but this record is for more than just doom-metal fanatics though-this is an epic record for all fans of guitar driven rock and roll. On Soma WINDHAND successfully make syrupy slow, downtuned doom hooky and anthemic. Propelled by singer Dorthia Cottrell's beautifully haunting bellow, WINDHAND's dual guitar attack sounds like the glorious misfit offspring of Black Sabbath and Nirvana. An easy candidate for heavy music record of the year.

    Reflections: Mojave Desert

The project started simply because we were on tour with the band, had just finished FYF fest in LA, and had a week before picking up the rest of the tour in Phoenix. On the way, we stopped for a week near Joshua Tree National Park. The idea was to go somewhere fairly remote and setup to rehearse. It was peak summer, so we set up outside and would be playing throughout the day and night. Whilst we were out playing and exploring the area around us - the sound reflecting from the rocks, the sound of the wind between them, complete stillness at night and packs of roaming coyotes in the distance, it became apparent that we could use this as its own unique recording environment. Anna in our crew creates the projections for our live show but is predominantly a filmmaker. We made a few calls to friends in LA and borrowed some film/sound gear and recorded some of the new music that came out of the rehearsals. Through the process of making this record, we decided to start a series of musical & video explorations in interesting locations, where the music is a function of its surroundings. This first experiment only marks the beginning of this idea, and I am currently seeking new interesting acoustic environments to explore.

When it comes to death metal, no band is more convincing than Slayer. For other bands, focusing on death, Satanism, the supernatural, and the occult became a clichÉ; but Slayer's controversial reflections on evil always came across as honest and heartfelt. The group's sincerity is the thing that makes South of Heaven so disturbing and powerful -- when the influential thrashers rip into such morbid fare as Spill the Blood, Mandatory Suicide, and Ghosts of War, they are frighteningly convincing. With their fourth album, Slayer began to slow their tempos without sacrificing an iota of heaviness or incorporating any pop elements. South of Heaven would be Slayer's last album for Def Jam. When Rick Rubin and Russell Simmons (brother of Joseph Run Simmons of Run-D.M.C.) parted company, Slayer went to Rubin's new company Def American, while LL Cool J, Slick Rick, and other rappers recorded for Simmons at Def Jam.

    4 Your Eyez Only

    J. Cole's fourth album arrived exactly two years after 2014 Forest Hills Drive. Told in the first person, most of its tracks trace the life trajectory of Cole's slain friend, as someone who dealt drugs, changed course after falling in love, and died at the age of 22. Cole also draws from some aspects of his own life. One track regards an unjustified SWAT raid on a house he rented for recording, leaving him feeling targeted, Even when the president jam your tape. There's a moment of levity and sweetness throughout Foldin Clothes, where Cole enthusiastically handles some domestic duties, while the two parts of She's Mine regard, respectively, his wife and daughter.

Most moving and forthright is the closing title track, nine minutes of grimly focused reflections from multiple vantage points. Cole's predominant scarred yet resolute feeling, perfectly conveyed in his downward, furrowed gaze in the album's promotional images, is likewise reflected with the productions. Mostly slow and nuanced, cooked up with a crew of well over a dozen co-producers, they involve instrumental help from the likes of trumpeter Theo Croker, guitarist Steve Lacy of the Internet, and keyboardist Masayuki Hirano.

As much as I'd love to relay all kinds of anecdotes about the challenges Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray encounter during the mastering sessions, I witness none. It's as though I'm sitting at the point of creation, experiencing the same high that brought such gifted musicians together as one. Steve Hoffman, Kevin Gray, Chad Kassem, and Don MacInnis have done Rudy Van Gelder and his Blue Note artists proud. Jason Victor Serinus, Stereophile, April 2008

J.J. Johnson shared the front line with his tenor master for an exceptional session that features a unique reworking of Poor Butterfly and a great original Why Don't I. Horace Silver is the pianist, but Thelonious Monk replaces him on Reflections and both pianists alternate throughout a stunning version of Misterioso.

    Pacific Dust

For the band's seventh full-length studio album, The Mother Hips have never been more primed to share their well-traveled tales, the long days and nights on the road, the gritty politics, the smart inward reflections and most of all the music, all delivered with a most appealing balance of Americana storytelling and their California-burnished rock. Pacific Dust's compositions about penning a song in your kitchen at 3:00 am (the thundering album opener White Falcon Fuzz), record company politics (garage-rock boogie Third Floor Story), and a father and son's relationship through music (on the ballad Young Charles Ives) indeed tell the story of many American rock bands. But here's why it matters: The Mother Hips have survived, and in fact thrived, throughout the journey and Pacific Dust, with its bittersweet melodies, poignant lyrics, and strong and gritty musicianship, is a perfect example of why.

Earlier albums such as Part-Timer Goes Full, Green Hills of Earth, and Red Tandy have become almost cult classics among indie music buffs, and the band's most recent 2007 release, Kiss the Crystal Flake, offered proof that the band still continues to attract new supporters. Over the years, the band has worked with and played alongside a slew of renowned/respected colleagues including super-producer Rick Rubin, Wilco, Johnny Cash, and many others. Today, armed with their newest release Pacific Dust, The Hips are poised to take their experience and talent to yet another level.

    Life Coach

Phil Manley, founding member of the pioneering DC-trio Trans Am, and in-demand recording engineer (The Alps, Arp, Mi Ami, Moon Duo, Wooden Shjips) has recorded his debut solo album. Life Coach, a title inspired by Tony Williams Lifetime and Charles Bullen's Lifetones project, is a dynamic collection of instrumental songs composed, performed, and recorded entirely by Phil.

While there are reflections of Phil's work in Trans Am, Oneida, The Fucking Champs, and Jonas Reinhardt that a listener familiar with those bands will notice, Life Coach is more minimal and adheres to the structures of German rock of the mid 70's that has long inspired Phil, specifically the free-spirited and loose arrangements, the propulsive motorik pulse, and the sonic textures or klangfarben (translated sound colors).

German analog recording technology had reached its zenith in the late 70's. This coincided nicely with the careers of such artists as Neu!, Kraftwerk, Harmonia, Cluster and Popol Vuh. German recording engineer Conny Plank, a hero of Phil's, was responsible for most of the greatest recordings of each of these bands. Life Coach pays homage to the klangfarben of Conny Plank's recordings.

    A Broken Frame

Martin Gore has famously noted that Depeche Mode stopped worrying about its future when the first post-Vince Clarke-departure single, See You, placed even higher on the English charts than anything else Clarke had done with them. Such confidence carries through all of A Broken Frame, a notably more ambitious effort than the pure pop/disco of the band's debut. With arranging genius Alan Wilder still one album away from fully joining the band, Frame became very much Gore's record, writing all the songs and exploring various styles never again touched upon in later years. Satellite and Monument take distinct dub/reggae turns, while Shouldn't Have Done That delivers its slightly precious message about the dangers of adulthood with a spare arrangement and hollow, weirdly sweet vocals.

Much of the album follows in a dark vein, forsaking earlier sprightliness, aside from tracks like A Photograph of You and The Meaning of Love, for more melancholy reflections about love gone wrong as Leave in Silence and My Secret Garden. More complex arrangements and juxtaposed sounds, such as the sparkle of breaking glass in Leave in Silence, help give this underrated album even more of an intriguing, unexpected edge. Gore's lyrics sometimes veer on the facile, but David Gahan's singing comes more clearly to the fore throughout -- things aren't all there yet, but they were definitely starting to get close.

    The Healing Component

When Chicago MC Mick Jenkins first broke out onto the national hip-hop scene with his 2014 mixtape The Water[s], fans embraced the thoughtful new voice for his ability to hold a mirror up to society -- and himself -- and deliver unflinchingly honest reflections in his baritone style over a sonic palette as deep as his lyrical metaphors. But The Water[s] also laid out a thesis statement of sorts, an emphasis on healing and love instead of anger and violence that carried through his next project, the EP Wave[s], and surfaces again fully-formed on his debut album, The Healing Component, out soon via Cinematic Music Group.

To Jenkins, 25, the titular healing component isn't THC -- the element of marijuana that produces its high -- as the acronym of the album suggests, but love, a concept explored throughout the album and anchored by the single, Spread Love. The project is stitched together through a series of skits, or more accurately conversations, on the nature and meaning of love for individual people, fleshed out and discussed in a way that's reminiscent of the classroom interludes that pepper The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. But it's not just romantic or familial love that he explores throughout the album's 15 tracks. It's also about love in all the different ways it manifests itself: It's all-encompassing, he says, Because it's something that I intend to talk about for a while in different ways. - Dan Rys (Billboard.com)

    Adult Film

Tim Kasher seems to never rest. Since 1997, he has written and released 12 full-length albums both as a solo artist and with his bands Cursive and The Good Life, and has crisscrossed North America and Europe countless times on tour. His newest album, sophomore solo effort Adult Film, began coming together in late 2011, just shortly after Cursive finished recording their seventh LP I Am Gemini (Saddle Creek, 2012). Kasher continued to work on it over the next year before heading to Electrical Audio studio in his adopted hometown of Chicago, IL in spring 2013.

Adult Film is more thematically elastic than any other of his recent albums, and spans songs that reflect on matters such as aging and mortality, growing up and growing older, and how these things impact our relationships-including the way we interact with and view the life around us. Kasher is as lyrically incisive as ever: the album is packed
with thoughtful apprehensions, cleverly turned phrases, and reflections on himself and the world at large, all run through his distinctive filter of dry wit and frequent self-deprecation.

Musically, the new album plays down the orchestral element of his lush debut solo album The Game Of Monogamy (Saddle Creek, 2010) and offers a more direct, yet no less affecting, blend of rock and pop. Kasher is aided throughout by Sara Bertuldo (bass, vocals), Patrick Newbery (organ, keys, synths, horns), and Dylan Ryan (drums) - who backed him while touring around Monogamy-as well as Nate Kinsella (drums; of Make Believe and Birthmark); Laura Stevenson (vocals; of Laura Stevenson and the Cans); Matt Focht (drums; of Head Of Femur); Jenna Morrison (vocals; of Conduits); Laura Carrozza (flute; of Aficionado); and Sarah Holtschlag (saw). Adult Film was mixed by John Congleton (St. Vincent, Wye Oak, Explosions In The Sky) at Elmwood Recording in Dallas, TX.

Kasher has become known throughout his career for insightful, literate, and candid songwriting, and his solo work and albums with Cursive and The Good Life have been praised by Rolling Stone, Esquire, The New York Times, Alternative Press, SPIN, Entertainment Weekly, Billboard, The A.V. Club, and Vice, among many others.

    Where Did Everyone Go?

In what some consider his last great album prior to his tragic passing, Nat King Cole approached the dramatic dark side of love in the spirit of Sinatra's saloon songs to timeless, haunting effect with the album Where Did Everyone Go? The distinctive orchestrations of Gordon Jenkins for strings accompany the intimately expressive and supremely musical voice of the incomparable Nat King Cole in such classic songs as Someone To Tell It To, I Keep Going Back To Joe's, Spring Is Here, The End Of A Love Affair and other reflections of one who had and now has not. Nat King Cole and arranger Gordon Jenkins followed their hit albums Love Is The Thing and The Very Thought Of You with this striking shift toward the dramatic. The result again stands among its era's finest, most stylistically defining recordings of popular music and still retains its grand sense of tragedy and beauty.

Using the original first generation 3-track session tapes from Capitol's vaults and all-analogue systems including custom headstacks, 3-track preview heads, console and monitoring chain installed at AcousTech specially for these releases, mastering engineers Kevin Gray and Steve Hoffman realize the stunning beauty of these recordings. Two bonus tracks recorded for the album, A Farewell to Arms and Happy New Year, are included in this double 45-RPM 180-gram album set for their first release in original production quality. Included with this deluxe reissue is a striking six-panel booklet complete with rare photos, a 3,200-word essay by Chris Hall on the album and a 1,200-word essay by Michael Fremer about the remastering process. This truly is a no-expenses-spared project, resulting in the ultimate version of this title and a historic reissue.
