SONM-MAS-6317xTedeschi Trucks Band
RevelatorRevelator is a dramatic leap forward for both Susan Tedeschi and Derek Trucks in every respect, from the songwriting and the production to Tedeschi's vocals and Trucks' guitar playing. Their new 11-piece band is an aggregation of talented musicians related by experience, and blood, and clearly adds to the notion of Revelator as a true group album.
Tedeschi and Trucks co-wrote the album's 11 tracks with an impressive list of songwriters including: Jeff Trott, John Leventhal, David Ryan Harris and Sonya Kitchell, Gary Louris (The Jayhawks), Oliver Wood (Wood Brothers), Doyle Bramhall II, Erick Krasno (Soulive), Mike Mattison, Kofi Burbridge and Oteil Burbridge.
In addition to Tedeschi and Trucks, Revelator features bassist Oteil Burbridge (Allman Brothers) and keyboardist/flutist Kofi Burbridge (The Derek Trucks Band), drummers J.J. Johnson and Tyler Greenwell, trumpeter Maurice Brown, tenor saxophonist Kebbi Williams, trombonist Saunders Sermons and harmony singers Mark Rivers and Mike Mattision.1. Come See About Me

The Cost Of LivingFor The Revelations, their latest offering, The Cost Of Living (Decision/Sony RED), is a labor of love years in the making. Since they first came on the scene in 2008 with their Deep Soul EP(Decision), Brooklyn, NY's The Revelations have represented a twenty-first-century take on classic soul-one which shows reverence for the masters, but with a uniquely modern sensibility-a sound The New York Times' Jon Pareles calls "revivalism without poses or quotation marks".
On The Cost Of Living, Rell Gaddis assumes the lead vocal duties previously provided by Tre Williams. This is by no means Rell's debut with The Revelations, however. Rell has been part of the group's writing team from their onset, and performed with the band for years, even contributing lead vocals to "It's Too Late" from their 2009 album The Bleeding Edge (Decision). Since being signed to Jay-Z's Roc-a-fella Records back in 1997, Rell has had a prolific singing and writing career, creating his own records, as well as penning and lending vocals to songs featuring artists Usher (Rell wrote Usher's #1 RnB Hit Here I Stand), Jay-Z, Kanye West, Mary J Blige, and many more.
This workman-like mentality is pervasive throughout the band as well. The Revelations feature Wes Mingus on guitar, Gintas Janusonis on drums, and newcomer Ben Zwerin on bass. Each accomplished performing and session musicians in their own right, The Revelations have combined to provide music for icons such as the Wu-Tang Clan and Lee "Scratch" Perry, as well as soul royalty Otis Clay, Willie Clayton, Benny Latimore, and Swamp Dogg.
The distinctive blues/rock/soul sound of The Cost Of Living was recorded at soul mecca Royal Studios in Memphis, TN, produced by Bob Perry with Lawrence "Boo" Mitchell, as well as The Revelations themselves. For this project, the band is joined by Stax and Hi Records session legends Bobby Manuel (guitar), Lester Snell (keyboards), and Charles Hodges (organ). Lyrically, The Cost Of Living weaves tales of perseverance despite hardship. From the opening track, "Mama", about a single mother scrounging to raise her children, to the jaded optimism of "It's Ok", the pragmatism of "Money Makes The World Go 'Round", and the heart-broken disillusionment of the soul classic "Got To Use My Imagination", The Revelations continue their tradition of presenting blues topics with soul music's urgency.
The Revelations' engaging and energetic live performances continue to win over audiences from Brooklyn to the Mississippi Delta to California and beyond, creating fans such as A-listers B.B. King, Bobby Womack and Stevie Wonder in the process. This is new, true soul music with a sharp, modern edge.

RevelationDub reggae legend Lee Scratch Perry delivers a second follow-up to his Grammy-nominated collaboration with multi-instrumentalist Steve Marshall and producer John Saxon. Perry continues to create unique, category-defying music. For the uninitiated, Lee Scratch Perry is one of the most important figures in the history of reggae music. Not only did he help develop the early reggae sound captured in a number of important recordings, but as an engineer, producer, songwriter, and performer he pioneered a number of innovations, including dub reggae. Lee Perry again draws his narrative from his spirituality and today's global events. Very special guests Keith Richards and George Clinton again join Marshall, with Duncan & Green, Tim Hill, Dr Sleepy, Alec Hay, elodieO & Abi Browning, and David Stewart Jones also featured.1. AutobahnRanked 253/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.
In 2009, Kraftwerk have upgraded their Kling Klang masters with the latest studio technology and these magnificent recordings still sound like nothing else in the history of music. Kraftwerk are unique, pristine, profound and beautiful. Decades may pass, but their streamlined synthetic symphonies stand outside time, as fresh as tomorrow, transcendent and sublime.
Though they'd recorded three previous albums, Kraftwerk's modern pop legacy starts with this impressionistic excursion down Germany's famed superhighway. The rhythmic synth pulse that carries the title track is a sonic revelation while co-founder Florian Schneider's flute work and other more delicate melodic touches hearken back to the band's prog-rock foundations as do the atmospheric Kometenmelodie 1 & 2, Mitternacht and Morgenspaziergang.1. Cupid's HeadThe follow-up to 2011s Looping State of Mind, a press release for the album claims that it's darker and slower than past Field records, and the first from Axel Willner to be hardware only - no computers. Regular fans of The Field will note the change in the artwork - whereas past Field records have always used light backgrounds, this one's dark grey.
"When I started to work on Cupid's Head it was quite awkward", claims Willner. "I felt that I had nothing to put into a new album and I´m not the type to sit down and force something out in the studio. But then, after a few modest attempts, I got a first loop together and running which turned out (in a short time) to be 'No.No '. YMO USA & Yellow Magic OrchestraThis first YMO album was released in 1978 in Japan ('79 in Europe) and set a precedent in the music industry like never before. By releasing this daring album, YMO shook the world with their Synthpop','at the time a revelation as well as a revolution.
YMO created their own sound, far ahead of its time. The band was amongst the first to use a computer music composer, which was a programmed Roland MC-8 Microcomposer developed by Hideki Matsutake (composer, arranger and computer programmer). The trio mainly used electronic equipment on this album. The only acoustic instruments used were a piano and marimba percussion set. This type of production was never heard of before and set about a new movement within the music business.

ScoopPete Townshend's demos had grown legendary among Who collectors well before the official release of the double-album Scoop in 1983. On each demo,Townshend worked out full arrangements, which the Who would often follow exactly. He also recorded a wealth of songs and instrumental pieces that never made it to record.
Over the course of two albums, Scoop features 25 of these demos, including both classic Who songs (So Sad About Us, Bargain,Behind Blue Eyes, Magic Bus, Love Reign O'er Me) and unreleased gems(Politician, Melancholia, To Barney Kessell, Mary). Occasionally, the songs sound better in their demo versions, particularly on latter-day Who songs, which were over-wrought in their official incarnations.
But what makes Scoop so fascinating is its revelation of the depth and detail of Townshend's imagination, and how he refined his ideas. But even casual fans will find the sheer musicality of the record worthwhile it's one of the most focused and impressive albums he has ever released.LP 1

Chet is Back!Mastered from the Original Tapes and Stunning Audiophile-Grade Sonics: You Will Not Hear a Better Pressing!
Chet is back! And how. In a career filled with ups and downs, Chet Baker sounds divine on this 1962 set of bop-driven tunes and elegant standards cut in Italy after the trumpeter's two-year hiatus from recording. Reason for its superiority owes to a sextet anchored by burgeoning, young European musicians such as saxophonist Bobby Jaspar, pianist Amedeo Tommasi, guitarist Rene Thomas, and bassist Benoit Quersin.
Compositionally, ballads (including These Foolish Things and the only new composition, Ballata In Forma Di Blues) are tucked in between a surfeit of engaging, uptempo pieces. Yet the most staggering revelation here, aside from the fact that, no exaggeration, Chet Is Back! might contain the cool musician's most gorgeous playing, is the version of Over the Rainbow, given a reading that encapsulates the classic songs longing, hope, and beauty. Noteworthy, too, are Jaspar's statement-making performances.
Now, an even 50 years after its original release, Chet Is Back! benefits from the audiophile-quality sound it's always deserved courtesy of ORG Music and being mastered from the original master tapes. Few, if any, audiophile pressings of Baker's music match the tones and timbres present on this astoundingly transparent reissue. It's what jazz is all about.

Skye & RossFor over a dozen years, Ross and Skye had been playing across the globe as Morcheeba, but Ross' brother, Paul - their co-producer, with whom they'd founded the band - had stayed at home. During this time, the inevitable separation between what happened in the studio and what happened live had become increasingly pronounced, and, as they observed the band beside them with delight, the singer and guitarist shared an epiphany. "Why don't we make our records feel more live?"
The result of this revelation is SKYE | ROSS, an album that pursues its own musical path while returning to the roots of the sound that made Morcheeba a household name back in the late 1990s. It is, Ross explains, "what Skye and I do naturally when you ask us to make music together, and yet not necessarily a continuation of what we'd been doing with Morcheeba. It therefore felt only right to give it a new identity."
What emerged recalls the spirit of Morcheeba's international, platinum selling Big Calm, while boasting a revived spirit and the mature experience that comes with two decades of making music.
Ultimately, SKYE | ROSS doesn't signify the end of Morcheeba, but rather a purge of sorts, an opportunity for the two musicians who have represented the public face of their band to exploit the musical relationship that has developed between them outside of the studio on stages around the world. "Our intentions are really aligned," Ross concludes, "and once you have that synchronicity with someone everything falls into place."1. Repay The Saviour

Ranked First In All-Time Top Ten List Of Shred Albums By Guitar World Magazine
Rising Force is the first studio album by guitarist Yngwie Malmsteen, released on 5 March 1984 through Polydor Records. The album reached No. 14 on the Swedish albums chart, No. 60 on the US Billboard 200, and received a nomination for Best Rock Instrumental Performance at the 1986 Grammy Awards. It is regarded as a seminal release in the shred and neoclassical metal genres.
Steve Huey at AllMusic gave Rising Force four stars out of five, calling it 'a revelation upon its release' and 'The true inauguration of the age of the guitar shredder'. He praised Malmsteen's technique and 'blinding virtuosity', as well as highlighting 'his obsessions with Bach, Beethoven, and Paganini'.
In a 2009 article by Guitar World magazine, Rising Force was ranked first in the all-time top ten list of shred albums. The staff wrote: 'Yngwie J. Malmsteen was, is, and always will be the greatest shredder of all time. Hell, he invented the genre with his debut.'
Black Star and Far Beyond the Sun have endured as two of Malmsteen's most popular songs, as well as being staples of his live setlist. In a 2008 Guitar World interview, Malmsteen said of the two songs: 'I'll probably play Far Beyond the Sun and Black Star until the day I die.'1. Black Star

Delivery ManIn celebration of their 10-year Anniversary, Lost Highway Records is re-releasing twenty of their most acclaimed albums including Elvis Costello's The Delivery Man on limited edition clear vinyl.
With 2004's The Delivery Man, Elvis Costello & the Imposters' first release for Lost Highway, one of modern music's most admired and prolific talents delivered a remarkable album that draws on deep American musical roots more than any of his releases since King of America in 1986.
Recorded in Oxford, MS and produced by Dennis Herring (Modest Mouse, Counting Crows, Buddy Guy & Cracker) and Elvis Costello, it is a collection that ranges from the ferocious, bass-driven opening track, Button My Lip, which speaks in the voice of a desperate man on the verge of committing a terrible crime, to a tender and timely closing rendition of, The Scarlet Tide, referred to by Costello's co-composer and fellow Oscar Nominee, T Bone Burnett as an anti-fear song.
Like a lot of great things in music history, The Delivery Man can be said to have started with the late great Johnny Cash. The Delivery Man is actually a character imported from a song I wrote in about 1986 for Johnny Cash, Costello explains. He's based on a real character. I read this story in the paper about a man who confessed to murdering his childhood friend thirty years later, having been in prison for a number of other things. I thought this story was very interesting because he'd carried this burden of guilt of this childhood crime. I wrote a fictional version of that story in a song called 'Hidden Shame,' which John recorded.
