CarlaPaired with Stax writing whiz-kids Isaac Hayes and David Porter, Thomas had her greatest chart run, beginning with the hit B-A-B-Y and continuing with Let Me Be Good to You. Both of those appear here, alongside evocative slabs of country-soul in covers of Hank Williams's I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry and Patsy Cline's I Fall to Pieces. For good measure, Thomas also tries her hand at the blues with covers of Howlin' Wolf's Little Red Rooster and Jimmy Reed's Baby What You Want Me to Do?

Hellbilly DeluxePicture Disc
Just as White Zombie was on the verge of becoming the most popular metal band in the land, Rob Zombie decided he was an auteur. Stopping short of breaking up the band, Zombie set out to make sure everyone know that he was the main force in the band, as if there were any doubt in the first place. He did extracurricular animation, managed a band, started a record label, drew a sequence in Beavis & Butt-Head Do America, appeared in films, wrote the script for The Crow 3 (which he planned to direct), and most tellingly of all, he recorded a solo album, Hellbilly Deluxe. Since White Zombie was always his baby, it seems a little strange that he had the need to break away from the group, especially since the album sounds exactly like a White Zombie record, complete with thunderous industrial rhythms, drilling metal guitars, and B-movie obsessions. For most listeners, it doesn't matter if Hellbilly Deluxe is technically a White Zombie or Rob Zombie album, since it delivers the goods, arguably even better than Astro-Creep: 2000. To outsiders, the entire schlock enterprise may seem ridiculous or sound monotonous, but even the weak cuts here hit hard and give fans exactly what they want.

Bluebird"Musically she exists somewhere between
Feist and Townes Van Zandt, and her New
York-by-way-of-Kentucky pluck is a refreshing
antidote to schmaltzy neo-folk"
"Dawn Landes' music sits neatly on the
fulcrum between Cat Power and Neko Case"
" compelling mix of alternative folk with
instrumental experimentation just the right
hint of country"
" Landes is a haunting presence in the world
of alt-folk experimentalism.
Based in Brooklyn, but raised in Louisville, singer-songwriter Dawn Landes has been writing
songs for most of her life, and at 33 already has more than a decade of experience as a
professional producer and engineer. After leaving NYU where she studied psychology and
literature, Landes began honing her production and engineering skills, working at Stratosphere Sound
(owned by James Iha, Adam Schlesinger, and Andy Chase), and at Philip Glass'
personal recording studio, before launching Saltlands Studio in Brooklyn with partners Steve
Salett and Gary Maurer.
Her new album Bluebird was produced in collaboration with good friend Thomas Bartlett
(known for his work with The National, Sharon Van Etten, Rufus Wainwright, Antony and the
Johnsons, and many others), and features contributions from Tony Scherr, Rob Moose, and
Press coverage of Bluebird will understandably present this album as Dawn's answer to her
ex's divorce record. However, like any great songwriter, she's abstracting her personal
narratives enough to leave them open to interpretation and a larger meaning. Bartlett's
spartan production keeps the vibe intimate, making it easy to connect with these naked and
honest songs which manage to rise above the context in which they were written. In the end,
the fact that Bluebird is Landes' way of processing the overwhelming emotions she dealt
with after her divorce doesn't matter - there are two sides to every story, and this is hers.1. Bluebird

The CrestAxel Rudi Pells career began in 1980 with the band, Steeler, who sold over 30,000 copies of their commercially most successful release, Strike Back, and brought out their fourth and final album, Undercover Animal, in 1988. In November of that year, Pell formed his own group together with Jörg Deisinger (ex-Bonfire), drummer Jörg Michael, bassist Thomas Smuszynski (ex-U.D.O.) and the American vocalist, Charlie Huhn (Ted Nugent, Gary Moore, Victory). Their debut album, Wild Obsessions, arrived at the stores one year later, followed by Nasty Reputation, for whom Pell enlisted the American frontman, Rob Rock (M.A.R.S, Impellitteri), who was replaced during the subsequent German tour by former Malmsteen vocalist, Jeff Scott Soto.
With Soto as a new member, the third album, Eternal Prisoner (1992), was undeniable proof that the band had found their own, unmistakable style. One year later, Pell brought out The Ballads, an album featuring his most accomplished rock ballads. With Between The Walls (1994) and the live recording, Made In Germany, the guitarist from Bochum held on to his typical style even in the post-grunge era. The subsequent Black Moon Pyramid (1996) was the second Pell album in succession to make the German album charts. 1997 saw the arrival of Pells eighth offering, Magic, featuring a thematically consistent concept based on supernatural stories. Magic also entered the charts, followed by Oceans Of Time, the commercially most successful album at that time by the Axel Rudi Pell band, and the continuation of Pells ballad concept (The Ballads II, 1999).
Following the departure of Jeff Scott Soto, Pell enlisted American vocalist Johnny Gioeli (ex-Hardline) for the production of Oceans Of Time, The Ballads III and his 2000 release, Masquerade Ball. His characteristic voice also enhanced the subsequent releases, Shadow Zone (2002) and Kings & Queens (2004), as well as the highly accomplished Mystica (2006) and the covers album, Diamonds Unlocked. Tales Of The Crown (2008), the last studio recording by the ARP Band surprised with a number of innovations and made it to # 41 of the German album charts. The Crest (2010) improved on this feat by going straight to # 22 in the German Charts.1. Prelude Of Doom (Intro)

All YoursWidowspeak has grown up in a lot of ways. The band's third album, All Yours, is one that could only come from Molly Hamilton and Robert Earl Thomas: a honed and elegant interweaving of dream-pop and slowcore rock and roll, easygoing melodies and dusty, snaking guitars. It's also their finest release to date: ten beautiful songs that are refreshingly straightforward yet built from the same well-chosen and deftly-used tools the band has always worked with. All Yours is ambitious without feeling labored-over, anchored in the strengths of Widowspeak's consistent influences. There are those familiar Morricone-come-Verlaine guitar passages, moody and country-tinged instrumentation, watery tremolo, velvety stacked vocals. You can hear Molly's affection for The Cranberries and The Sundays in the wavering melodies of 'Dead Love' or 'Girls', and Rob's adoration of George Harrison and Robbie Robertson in his brilliantly economical guitar playing. The result is an aesthetically diverse and profoundly nostalgic sound; indebted to past eras without feeling dated. After many line up changes, the band chose to work again with Jarvis Taveniere, who produced their self-titled debut in 2011. They also enlisted him and drummer Aaron Neveu (both of whom play in Woods) as the studio rhythm section. The presence of Taveniere and Neveu contributes a groove that wasnít there previously, and there's a few other new things: the swell of strings at critical moments, and for the first time, voices beyond Molly's own. We finally get to hear Rob sing in the earnestly laid-back 'Borrowed World.' Members of psych outfit Quilt contribute harmonies and keys throughout the record, most notably in 'My Baby's Gonna Carry On', and 'Cosmically Aligned'. Perhaps All Yours is so refreshing because it's a return to form. It's a record that feels as effortlessly unplanned as their debut, that serves to capture a moment rather than create one.1.
