The Band's Ultimate Live Album Recorded at Its Career Peak!

Legendary Live Set Features Horn Arrangements by Allen Toussaint

    Incredible Sound and Virtuosic Performances

The Last Waltz gets bigger billing, but The Band's 1972 live album Rock of Ages is actually the better representation of a live Band album. Recorded at the tail end of the group's Cahoots tour and over the course of four nights at New York's Academy of Music at the end of December 1971, the incendiary concert set bookmarks the close of the first phase of the collective's career.

Rather than follow the lead of most other live records made at the time (and many since), The Band resists any temptation to improvise or extend its material. Instead, the group plays with an intensity, chemistry, and spirit that's nearly unrivaled by any other live album. The quintet also draws on a secret weapon: One Allen Toussaint, who tailors expert horn arrangements for multiple songs, a move that spices renditions of classics such as "Don't Do It" and "Chest Fever." To top it all off, the horn charts are performed by the Rock of Ages Horn Section-a five-piece ensemble that includes legendary trumpeter Snooky Young (Count Basie, Lionel Hampton) and saxophonist Joe Farrell (Charles Mingus, Elvin Jones).

"I felt very much at home with The Band. You could tell in their music they know where they're coming from and they know where they're going. Each one had an extremely special interest in what they were doing." -Toussaint, as told to Rob Bowman

Do they ever. Unencumbered by the myriad guests and grandiose sense that define The Last Waltz, and energized by Toussaint's invaluable work, Rock of Ages is the sound of a great band pulling out all the stops. Robbie Robertson's guitar solos take "Unfaithful Servant" to a higher ground; "The W.S. Walcott Medicine Show" kicks with raunchy R&B abandon; Garth Hudson delivers a show-stealing performance on "The Genetic Method," a thrilling organ piece that incorporates elements of Anglican church music, folk, classical, and pop-as well as "Auld Lang Syne," due to its being recorded on New Year's Eve.

After various inferior editions and reissues, Rock of Ages is finally presented on an immaculate-sounding 180g 2LP set from Mobile Fidelity that lets Toussaint's contributions, horn section's energy, and the Band's feverish interplay shine like never before. Mastered from the original tapes, the open, airy, natural, and balanced sound will have you returning to Rock of Ages again and again.

2 Steps From The Middle Ages

    Pressed On Translucent Orange Vinyl

Packaging Includes Rare And Previously Unseen Photos From The Band's Photographer, Robert Toren

The Reissue Also Features Essays From Easter, Ken Stringfellow (The Posies, Big Star), And Franklin Bruno (The Village Voice, Salon.com)

Their final studio album - remastered and expanded! Following up 1987's Lolita Nation (whose reissue appeared on numerous year-end "best of" lists for 2016) would be no easy task for Game Theory. But, Scott Miller and company were certainly up for the task.

Re-teaming with producer Mitch Easter (R.E.M., Marshall Crenshaw, Velvet Crush), 2 Steps From The Middle Ages was released in 1988 and showed the band had no shortage of energy, experimentation, and excellent material.

The first pressing of this LP reissue, on vinyl for the first time since its initial release, comes on translucent orange colored vinyl. Packaging includes rare and previously unseen photos from the band's photographer, Robert Toren, as well as essays from Easter, Ken Stringfellow (The Posies, Big Star), and Franklin Bruno (The Village Voice, Salon.com).

The band's drummer, Gil Ray, who was involved in all aspects of the Game Theory reissue series including this title, sadly passed away earlier this year. This reissue is lovingly dedicated to him.

    Silver Age

Those familiar with the decades-spanning oeuvre of Bob Mould, from his pioneering early '80s work with HÜsker DÜ to his solo work in singer/songwriter, electronic, and rock modes, to the deafening pop sparkle of Sugar, might expect a new album bearing the title Silver Age to be a somber and reflective set in the mode of his last album, 2009's Life and Times and they'd be way off the mark.

The new record features Bob's current band which includes drummer Jon Wurster (Superchunk) and bassist Jason Narducy (Verbow, Split Single), on 10 brand-new Mould compositions in the punishingly loud, melodically sparkling pop/rock vein of the Sugar catalog and the intensity of his latter-day HÜsker DÜ output.

"I'd been batting around the idea of another aggressive pop record for some time," Bob says, "especially as the 20th anniversary of Copper Blue kept getting closer. It's no surprise, then, that Silver Age careens out of the speakers with a sense of exhilaration that reflects the excitement with which Bob and his live band cranked out the record in a tight whirlwind of a window in early 2012.

    Rave Age

Vitalic's third album Rave Age does not mess around. The French producer has made a beast of a record that takes the laser-guided disco for which he's known to an altogether wilder but no less euphoric place. This is a savage and carefree statement from a dancefloor visionary who's spent the last decade redefining electronic music in his own particular fashion and has decided, as only he can, to keep things simple.

    Age Of Paranoia

Vitamin X has been creating and touring their energetic brand of rock and thrash-soaked hardcore punk since the late 1990s, operating through die-hard DIY channels. The Amsterdam-based band has amassed an arsenal of albums, EPs, singles, splits, and more across a wide array of underground labels, including Havoc Records, Tankcrimes, Underestimated, AgiPunk, Refuse Records, and many others. Their two most recent albums were recorded by Steve Albini (Nirvana, Iggy Pop, Neurosis). Age Of Paranoia, the latest chapter in the band's lineage, was recorded by Igor Wouters at ARC Studios in Amsterdam and includes several special guest guitar solos by J. Mascis (Dinosaur Jr., Witch) and Bubba Dupree (Void, Soundgarden, Dave Grohl's Probot, Brant Bjork).

Age Of Paranoia offers sixteen volatile tracks, packed into a succinct, white-knuckled twenty-eight minutes. The album surges with rapid-fire punk angst, replete with ripping rock leads and raised-fist, group-chanting anthems. To complete the recording, the cover artwork is created by Marald (Baroness, Kylesa, High On Fire).

Well-known for their energetic and frenetic live shows which attract fans from across the metal, punk, and rock spectrums, Vitamin X has toured around the world several times, from Japan to the United States, from South America to Southeast Asia, and beyond. The band has played on MTV and many large festivals including Hellfest, Maryland Deathfest, and many others, and recently toured with Baroness and Harley Flannagan's Cro-Mags. Vitamin X will be presenting their new songs for the first time at festivals and shows throughout 2018; check out some live dates below and expect further updates throughout the year.

    Art Official Age

Few artists have created a body of work as rich and varied as Prince. During the '80s, he emerged as one of the most singular talents of the rock & roll era, capable of seamlessly tying together pop, funk, folk, and rock. Not only did he release a series of groundbreaking albums; he toured frequently, produced albums and wrote songs for many other artists, and recorded hundreds of songs that still lie unreleased in his vaults. With each album he released, Prince has shown remarkable stylistic growth and musical diversity, constantly experimenting with different sounds, textures, and genres. Occasionally, his music can be maddeningly inconsistent because of this eclecticism, but his experiments frequently succeed; no other contemporary artist can blend so many diverse styles into a cohesive whole.

ART OFFICIAL AGE is a classic Prince album, produced, arranged, composed and performed by Prince and Joshua Welton. Sonically the record is a contemporary concoction of soul, R&B and funk. The melodies are immediate and prominent as ever and Prince's vocals are rich and solid, taking full advantage of his vocal range with decidedly, seductive lyrics.

    Black Age Blues

    Contains 2 Exclusive Tracks

    Comes In Stoughton Gatefold Jacket

Black Age Blues is an instant classic, with each one of the nine songs an anthem, and each of the four members of GOATSNAKE in top form. Everything is magnified; Pete Stahl's vocals have never sounded so good, the rhythm section comprised of Greg Rogers on drums and Scott Renner on bass are the driving force on each track, and Greg Anderson's riffs are heavier than ever before.

Appearing on the album intro to "Another River To Cross" is acoustic guitar courtesy of David Pajo (Slint, Aerial M, Papa M), the track also containing previously released recordings from GOATSNAKE's "The River." Piano is played by Mathias Schneeberger and Petra Haden contributes violin and vocals. Another welcome addition to the album, across multiple tracks, are brilliant backing vocals by Dem Preacher's Daughters: Wendy Moten, Gale Mayes and Andrea Merrit.

Black Age Blues is familiar, but nothing here is a repetition of what we've heard before, as GOATSNAKE continues to refine the timeless, ultra-heavy rock that they are infamous for, surpassing even the highest of expectations.

    From The Original Master Tapes

Faithful Reproduction Of The Original Artwork

    Mono

Rooted in the steamy backroads of Texas and deep-fried at a Memphis recording studio, Joseph's Stoned Age Man was served up like a sizzling hot rattlesnake appetizer slathered in fuzz-blooz grease in 1969. Legend has it that the titles of eight of the album's nine songs came before they were written on the spot, which speaks volumes for the talents of Joseph (aka, Joseph Longeria) - who A&R man Steve Tyrell signed to Scepter Records after witnessing the Lone Star State bluesman gig with B.B. King and T-Bone Burnett. Brandishing his guitar like a Cro-Magnon's club, Joseph mixes his fuzzy licks with meat-grinder vocals as he loudly ruminates of fattened snakes, fish heads, mountains, cavemen and gumbo in the maddest peyote hallucination Alley Oop never had. Long revered among collectors, this fine slab o' rock gets its first-ever reissue from the original masters, pressed at RTI onto 180 grams of cold hard vinyl that'll rip your turntable from its hinges.

    The Gasoline Age

    First Time Available On Vinyl

Includes 9 Previously Unreleased Bonus Tracks From Various Years

Merge celebrates our long relationship with East River Pipe by releasing their critically
acclaimed fourth album The Gasoline Age on vinyl.

Saluted by ROLLING STONE as "the most gifted of the new loners," F.M. Cornog,
aka East River Pipe, originally released The Gasoline Age in 1999. Named Album of
the Year by both THE NEW YORK TIMES and England's THE INDEPENDENT,
The Gasoline Age was inspired in large part by nighttime drives on New Jersey's seedy
Route 22. Automobile imagery appears throughout the album: cybercars, stolen cars,
pimpmobiles. The cars all seem to carry with them a romanticism that emphasizes
even further Cornog's gift of creating a lyrical mood without tying his flights of fancy
    down to specifics.

The Gasoline Age explores the suburban landscape and turnpike stretches outside
Cornog's door and calmly runs down bleak facts over the gentle pulse and chorused
strums Cornog has been perfecting since his early singles. Some of the songs are built
on merely six concise lines of clear-eyed warning, though sometimes ("Hell Is an
Open Door") he sounds like he might actually be looking forward to the
darkness on the horizon. On other tracks, like the ironically titled "Party Drive," it
sounds as though Cornog is barely going to make it to the curb. But for the character
in the song, going on that drive is the only thing that makes it seem like "we're gonna
    be OK."

The disconnect between the unsettling dead ends Cornog sings about and the peaceful
swells of the keyboards and the glimmering guitars is what brings emotional weight to
the entire album. One doesn't get the sense that a whole lot has changed in the last 15
years for the characters inhabiting this world.

Merge came to know East River Pipe through his string of memorable and
mysterious singles on Hell Gate and Sarah Records. Merge co-founder Mac
McCaughan writes, "We had friends who were early fans of those records, including
Jim Wilbur of Superchunk, and it seemed that no one took East River Pipe fandom
lightly-once you were in on the secret, you were all in. After Ajax Records compiled
the sparkling early sides, we started working with Fred and his wife and partner
Barbara Powers and have been looking forward to the next batch of periodic broadcasts from his bedroom studio ever since."

    The Age of Understatement

The Last Shadow Puppets are Alex Turner (Arctic Monkeys) and Miles Kane (The Rascals). Firm friends ever since the Arctic Monkeys toured with KaneÆs previous group, The Little Flames, the pair were so inspired by listening to the likes of Scott Walker, early Bowie and David Axelrod, that they hatched a plan. The result, The Age of the Understatement, is an album of 12 full-blooded songs, bold and brassy, full of drama, wit and melody, that source the past but avoid falling into pastiche. Both Miles and Alex are 22, and this is a youthful record, full of life and the sheer pleasure of music making. The Last Shadow Puppets recorded the songs at Black Box studios near Nantes, France in two weeks during the summer of 2007, with producer and drummer James Ford. The band then approached Owen Pallett to arrange and conduct the orchestration of the tracks, which were recorded by the 22 piece London Metropolitan Orchestra at British Grove studios in London over Christmas.

A Paganini among pop stars, and a Jimi Hendrix among violinists, David Garrett is the "Devil's Violinist" of our age, an international superstar who blurs the lines between Mozart and Metallica. "Rock Revolution" is a follow-up to his hit album "Rock Symphonies" - which has sold over 1.1 million albums around the world. The all-new album includes covers of songs by the Rolling Stones, Prince, Coldplay, Stevie Wonder and many more. This is the 2-LP release.

    The Golden Age Of Bullshit

PARTYBABY is the LA based 4 piece fronted by Jamie Reed and Noah Gersh, who, despite being only in their mid-20s, are both veterans of the modern rock scene (Gersh with Portugal. The Man and Reed with 30 Seconds to Mars). Their music can perhaps best be described as loud, hook-heavy rock in the spirit of Nirvana, Cheap Trick, Weezer, "Ziggy"-era Bowie, The Stooges, Smashing Pumpkins and The Cars. Their self-produced debut album, "The Golden Age of Bullshit," is mixed by Andy Wallace (Nirvana, The Cult, Run-DMC, Jeff Buckley).

    New Age Music Is Here

Mysteries is just as it implies. A few months ago the Felte label
received an anonymous demo accompanied by a photo of 3
figures, faces covered like some sort of futuristic druids. To this
day the label still doesn't know the group's origin, but the joy of
discovering this music unimpeded renders this fact almost
    irrelevant.

There's a sense that the band would prefer to keep your focus on
the music and not who they are, where they come from or what
you might perceive them to be before hearing a single note. If you
need glorious mug shots and preamble to capture your intrigue,
then this is not for you. The album's title, New Age Music is Here,
could even be interpreted as a sarcastic shot at the new listening
habits dictated by the constant noise all around us, but is more
likely a simple invitation to engage with the music on its own
    terms, in its own universe.

One thing is certain. New Age Music Is Here glows with exotic,
crunchy, muscular, expressive pop music built around vocals and
drums, rather than the big synth or guitar riffs prevalent today.
Almost like a psych-rock, cyborg, 50's doo-wop Alice Coltrane if
you will. Is it truly new age? We definitely haven't heard much like
    it.

Listen with an open mind and heart and you too might believe in
music once again strictly for music's sake. Let's get to it then,
    shall we?
