Rock 'N Soul Part 1Rock 'N Soul Part I On Numbered Limited Edition 180 Gram LP From Mobile Fidelity
The Definitive Hall and Oates Greatest-Hits Compilation: Rock 'n Soul Part I Loaded With Nine Top 10 Singles, Including Kiss On My List and Private Eyes
Mastered From the Original Master Tapes and Pressed On 180 Gram LP At RTI
All The Signature Songs From The 1970s And 80s Are Here, From Sara Smile And She's Gone To Maneater
Other compilations have longer track lists and go farther back into their career, but no Hall and Oates greatest-hits collection surpasses Rock 'n Soul Part I. Originally released at the height of the duo's career in fall 1983, the 12-song set functions as a time machine back into an era when Daryl Hall and John Oates dominated the charts with songs that have long since become standards. While a majority of the anthology draws from the group's trio of mammoth RCA albums spanning 1980 through 1982, it also includes the pair's only three Top 10 smashes from the 1970s: Sara Smile, She's Gone, and the chart-topping Rich Girl. One-stop shopping for the absolute best of Hall and Oates doesn't come any easier.
Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed on 180g LP at RTI, Mobile Fidelity's analog reissue presents nine Top 10 Hall and Oates singles with awe-inspiring detail and palpable realism. Lifelike tones grace the array of guitars, pianos, basses, and voices placed against synthesized backdrops. Each member's singing claims enhanced intimacy and balance. The collective harmonies sound sharper, the dynamics richer, and the soundstages wider and deeper. While the tandem's peers often relied on robotic mechanisms and now-dated keyboard devices, Hall and Oates wisely merge the period's savvy styles with tried-and-true soulful instrumentation.
Indeed, with one listen to this definitive-sounding version of Rock 'n Soul Part I, and you'll understand why the duo's music not only ruled radio and record stores in the Reagan era but also continues to be referenced by influential artists today. You already likely know every song - or nearly every one of them - here by heart. Arriving upon a near-flawless fusion of dance grooves, soft rock rhythms, smooth vocals, romantic sentiments, catchy beats, and spotless hooks with #1 singles such as Kiss On My List and Private Eyes, the collaborators simultaneously crossed over into multiple markets and eradicated boundaries.
All the trademarks - swinging verse structures, call-and-response choruses, stick-in-your-head bridges, sleek keyboard layers, doo-wop fills, and, in some places, reggae-nodding accents or cool saxophone lines to stir up the mood and atmosphere - that make the duo's music irresistible pulse throughout Rock 'n Soul Part I. Eight of the singles included here cracked the Top 5. They remain prototype intersections of blue-eyed soul, edge new wave, and dance, blueprints for pop mastery that catapulted Hall and Oates to becoming the most successful duo in rock history.
Hear the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees' standard-setting equilibrium between polish, melody, muscle, and craft on their signature hits like never before.

MEmphis Rock And SoulMelissa Etheridge has announced the release of her new album MEmphis Rock and Soul, a tribute to Stax Records and the rich history of classic Southern soul, scheduled for release via Stax Records, a division of Concord Music Group. The album is a collection of deep soul covers associated with the original Stax label, including songs recorded by Otis Redding, Rufus Thomas, The Staple Singers, William Bell and more. The album also features new, original verses written by Melissa on two of the tracks.
While the original Stax studio is long gone, Etheridge took to another hallowed local spot, Willie Mitchell's Royal Studios (home to Al Green, Ann Peebles and others), to channel the classic Memphis sounds found on these soulful standards. MEmphis Rock and Soul was produced by Willie's son Boo Mitchell, and features a backing band comprised of Hodges Brothers and other top Memphis musicians who are legends in their own right. Etheridge even recorded with Al Green's famed RCA 77DX ribbon microphone (No. 9"). MEmphis Rock and Soul also spotlights the empowering role Stax played in the Civil Rights Movement, a fitting theme for Melissa, who has become a pivotal voice of the modern LGBT rights movement.1. Merritone Rock Steady 2: This Music Got Soul 1966-1967 (Awaiting Repress)American rhythm & blues fervor, boosted by a multitude of sound systems playing 78rpm records on increasingly larger sets, gripped Jamaica from the late forties onwards but, towards the end of the decade, the American audience began to move towards a somewhat softer sound. The driving rhythm & blues discs became increasingly hard to find and the more progressive Jamaican sound system operators, realizing that they now needed to make their own music, turned to Kingston's jazz and big band musicians to record one-off custom cut discs. These were not initially intended for commercial release but designed solely for sound system play on acetate or 'dub plates' as they would later be termed. These 'specials' soon began to eclipse the popularity of American rhythm & blues and the demand for their locally produced music proved so great that the sound system operators began to release their music commercially on vinyl and became record producers. Clement 'Coxsone' Dodd, Duke Reid 'The Trojan' and Prince Buster, who operated his Voice Of The People Sound System, were among the first to establish themselves in this new role and the nascent Jamaican recording industry now went into overdrive.
In 1954 Ken Khouri had numbered among the first far-sighted entrepreneurs to produce mento records with local musicians (mento is Jamaica's original indigenous music) before progressing to opening Jamaica's first record manufacturing plant. Three years later he moved his operation to Foreshore Road (later renamed Marcus Garvey Drive) where, with the assistance of the inestimable Graeme Goodall, he updated and upgraded his recording studio. The importance of this enterprising move was critical to the development of Jamaican music and its influence both profound and far-reaching.
"It was Ken Khouri's Federal Recording Studio, the womb that gave birth to the talented writers, artists and musicians that gave Jamaica its musical identity." Prince Buster
Federal Records was not only the place for the sound system men to record their music but it was also where they had their records manufactured and, consequently, the company enjoyed a near-total monopoly on recording and record pressing in Kingston. In 1963 Ken Khouri sold his one track board to Clement 'Coxsone' Dodd, who established Studio One, and Ken imported the first stereo equipment to Jamaica and Federal began making stereo records. The following year WIRL (West Indies Records Limited) opened but the competition served to drive the company on to higher heights. Ken Khouri continued to work on his own productions and, in 1966, the seven-inch release of Hopeton Lewis' 'Take It Easy', recorded under the guidance of Trinidadian guitarist Lynn Taitt, ushered in the rock steady era.
These two essential albums showcase a stunning selection of well-known hits, and not so well-known rarities, from the vast Federal catalog. All tracks have been transferred direct from the master tapes and assembled with the invaluable assistance of Ken Khouri's son, Paul Khouri, who generously gave Dub Store unlimited access to the Federal tape vaults. The extensive liner notes feature extracts from extensive interviews with Paul Khouri whose knowledgeable recollections of working on Marcus Garvey Drive, not only as a producer but as an engineer and musician, are illuminating and educational. Both sets present an insight into the birth and growth of Federal Records and the Jamaican recording industry and are essential to an understanding of the real roots of reggae music.1. Stevie Ray Vaughan's third studio album Soul To Soul was released in 1985, just two years after his massive debut Texas Flood. Moving more into a soulful R&B-tinged blues sound, Stevie included two new band members on keyboard and saxophone for Soul To Soul.
The band knows their way around a number of cover versions of songs penned by Hank Ballard, Doyle Bramhall and Willie Dixon, bringing a variety of influences into Stevie Ray's brand of modern blues. His own compositions such as Say What, Ain't Gone 'N' Give Up On Love en Life Without You reveal an artist that is ever passionate in delivering real blues, and growing in his songwriting at the same time.1. Got SoulPedal-steel virtuoso Robert Randolph returns with his new album, Got Soul. The album reaffirms that Randolph and his Family Band have truly evolved into one of the most exciting and innovative outfits in contemporary music. Got Soul takes stock of Randolph's past as a church musician as it pushes the band forward into new places. There is no shortage of originality on the album with songs that run the gamut from gospel numbers to deep, funky grooves to incendiary rock-and-soul jams. Nuclear Soul"...Lionize might just be one of today's most successfully original rock acts." - Classic Rock
"A mighty funk n roll rumble." - Metal Hammer
"Tight beats and infectious riffs." - Powerplay
Over six albums Lionize have streamlined their blend of funky riffs, cyborg tales and reggae sensibilities into an original, more-ish rock whole; culminating with the propulsive Jetpack Soundtrack in 2014. Now, with seventh LP Nuclear Soul, they're raising the bar again with their most fearless, expansive-sounding songs yet. Assinger/guitarist Nate Bergman tells us: "It [the music] has elements of bands like Clutch and Deep Purple, but its not quite that - it's something all its own. I think the beauty of the band right now is that all these elements touch on something familiar, but also sound new."
In writing and road testing Nuclear Soul the band aimed to redefine what it means to be a classic sounding rock'n'roll band. Thematically, they also harnessed the present political climate to powerful effect.
"We had no rules or ideals," he continues. "We just wanted to take people on a musical journey that excited them, and showed how emotionally moving the band could be."
Ultimately this is Lionize at their most stadium-ready - without compromising on soul, sass or substance. It's that wonderful space where vintage style and contemporary fire collide.1. Darkest Timeline

Soul DressingFollowing up their smash debut album Green Onions, 1965s Soul Dressing keeps the MGs party going in fine fashion. From the first smack of Al Jacksons crisp-as-a-potato-chip snare attack, the groove never lets up on these 12 original tracks. Guitarists will want to pay special attention to Steve Croppers aggressive, proto-fuzz/funk Telecastering (as surely, Jimi Hendrix, Ernie Isley and Billy Gibbons were all doing at the time). Add to that mix the cooking organ and high-voltage electric piano of Booker T. and rock salt-steady bass lines of original MG bassist Lewie Steinberg and youll have a dressing fit for any occasion. Hungry yet?
Want to mix up this dressing at home? First, youll need to pick up the original, done-to-perfection Stax Records analog master tapes. Originally released as an Atlantic holiday compilation in 1968 and long out of print on vinyl, Soul Christmas is an 11 track collection of songs featuring Soul legends such as Otis Redding, Carla Thomas, Solomon Burke, Joe Tex, Clarence Carter, William Bell, King Curtis, and Booker T & The MGs. Apart from nods to classics like White Christmas done by Otis, Booker T's Jingle Bells, and the R&B favorite What Are You Doing New Year's Eve (featuring Sax man King Curtis along with a guitar solo by Duane Allman), the songs are tailor-made originals that fit the style of the respective artists. Carter's Back Door Santa is a hilariously salacious cut; Tex gives us a preacher-like I'll Make Everyday Christmas; and Thomas is at her most cute and innocent with Gee Whiz, It's Christmas. Redding's version of Merry Christmas Baby is an obvious standout, while Bell's Everyday Will Be Like a Holiday is the only bona fide charted single. The album is ranked #9 on Rolling Stone's 25 Greatest Christmas Albums of All Time list.

Soul SickThere are artists who can command attention. They lean into their songs with an irresistible edge and total emotional connection and stay there. Sallie Ford is one of those artists. On her upcoming new album Soul Sick, out via Vanguard Records, Ford creates music that draws on all of her influences but still comes out her own. From the album's opening line "I woke up feeling sour on the sweetest summer day," the 11 tracks on the album chronicle Ford's journey through anxiety, insecurity, and depression.
"This is a 'confessional' album. It's about struggling with my issues - some that I've overcome and some that I still carry around. I felt confused, down about life and unsure of myself," states Ford. "On these new songs, it felt good to write on one theme and from one place. All in all, Soul Sick has taught me a lot about myself and helped me to heal."
That healing is captured throughout the music played on the album. With Mike Coykendall (M. Ward and She & Him) at the helm, it's laced with nostalgic feeling and produced to enhance that essence. "I asked Mike to produce, Ford says. "He loves old rock & roll and always records on tape, but he's also an experimenter, exploring new things with his music.
Soul Sick finds Ford further mining, updating and perfecting her vintage influences to stand alongside her uncompromising and confessional lyricism. On her first themed album, her doo-wop harmonies, slippery British invasion keyboards, and crunchy, fuzzed-out guitars back Ford's distinctive howl and surround her at-once intimate and confrontational musings on love, depression, and fear.1. Soul PunkSoul Punk is the debut solo album from Patrick Stump, lead singer/composer/guitarist for Chicago-based multi-platinum Island Records group Fall Out Boy. The 11-tracks on Soul Punk hit a variety of themes, including Stump's love for his hometown of Chicago in This City, a scathing treatise of Madoff-era materialism on Greed and a reminiscent musing on naive sexuality on Allie.
In deference to one of his primal influences, Prince, Stump left nothing to chance on his debut, playing all the instruments himself, including drums, bass, electric and acoustic guitars, piano, analog synths, drum kit, marching drums, percussion, trumpet, valve trombone, alto and tenor saxophones, mandolin, guitelele and manipulating various found sounds and ambient noises.
As the title Soul Punk suggests, the album straddles Stump's roots in R&B and punk. I wanted to do my thing and I wanted to do it my way. I wanted to set the tone for the future. Soul Punk is kind of like a calling card.LP1

Soul To Soul (200 Gram Vinyl)Expanded Double Trouble Lineup Created Vaughan's Most Diverse Album
Mastered From The Original Analog Tapes By Ryan K. Smith At Sterling Sound
Cut At 45 Rpm, 200-Gram Pressing By Quality Record Pressings
The new remastering sounds amazing. Better than it ever did. I'm happy and pleasantly surprised.
-Chris Whipper Layton
The 45 RPM Analogue Productions reissue of Stevie Ray Vaughan's Soul To Soul is so good, as are its 45 RPM companions - Texas Flood and Couldn't Stand The Weather - that they truly represent what Gregg Geller, producer and A&R representative described as the best replication of the master tapes to date.
We've already brought you the 33 1/3 RPM box set Texas Hurricane featuring the greatest Stevie Ray Vaughan tribute ever reissued - six of Vaughan's most classic album titles remastered for ultimate blues and guitar fanatics. We've now taken the extra step and done 45 RPM versions of these three standout LPs.
We've used the original 30 inches-per-second, half-inch analog master tapes for all of these albums. Ryan K. Smith at Sterling Sound cut the lacquers for the LPs using the ultimate VMS 80 cutting lathe. Gary Salstrom handled the plating and the vinyl was pressed of course at our Quality Record Pressings, maker of the world's finest-sounding LPs.
Stevie Ray Vaughan's myth making was already complete by the time that his third record in as many years was released in October 1985. But no one could have expected the artistic leaps and additional prowess the guitarist displays on Soul To Soul, a record on which Vaughan added a full-time keyboardist and saxophonist, and dug deep into his native state's musical well for soul, R&B and surf motifs. Vaughan wrote four of Soul to Soul's 10 tracks; two songs were released as singles. The album went to No. 34 on the Billboard 200 chart and the music video for Change It received regular rotation on MTV.

30th Anniversary Of The Legendary Album
Fishbone was one of the most distinctive and eclectic alternative rock bands of the late '80s. With their hyperactive, self-conscious diversity, goofy sense of humor, and sharp social commentary, the group gained a sizable cult following during the late '80s.
Truth and Soul is their second album, originally released in 1988. The album features a wide array of genres including punk, ska, reggae, soul, funk, elements of hard rock and blues. Truth and Soul contains a cover version of Curtis Mayfield's Freddie's Dead, originally from the soundtrack to the film Super Fly and it is the first single of the album. Three other tracks were released as singles Ma and Pa, with a video directed by Mike Lipscombe, Change and One Day. The album was awarded four-out-of-five stars in 2004's The New Rolling Stone Album Guide. Music critic Tom Moon called the album one of his 1000 Recordings to Hear Before You Die and Robert Dimery listed it as one of his 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die.
This year we are celebrating the 30th birthday of Truth and Soul. The album is finally available again on vinyl and includes the original insert with lyrics and liner notes.1. Freddie's Dead
