    Buddy Holly Collected

    Import

Buddy Holly was one of the greatest, most inventive artists in the first wave of Rock & Roll, which The Buddy Holly Collection certainly illustrates. The selection shows his wild-man Rockabilly ways as well as his sensitive songwriting.

Although his success lasted only a year and a half before his death in an airplane crash, Holly is described by critic Bruce Eder as the single most influential creative force in early rock and roll. The Buddy Holly Collection stands as the most comprehensive and greatest retrospective of the legendary artist.

Though it contains all the big hits, this is not the place to turn if you're only looking for That'll Be the Day, Not Fade Away, and Peggy Sue. This collection encompasses much more, delving deeper into Holly's body of work. An absolutely necessity for anybody who loves American music of the 20th century.

His works and innovations inspired and influenced contemporary and later musicians, notably the Beatles, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, and Elvis Costello, and exerted a profound influence on popular music.

    Ricky Sings Again

Ricky Nelson Ricky Sings Again on Numbered Limited Edition LP from Mobile Fidelity Silver Label

Foundation-Establishing Rock n' Roll Album Includes Eternal Hit Lonesome Town

A Late 1950s Vocal and Instrumental Touchstone: Nelson Comes Into His Own, Moving Away from Teen Pop and Towards Serious Rockabilly

Stellar Backing Band Includes Elvis Presley Sideman/Guitarist James Burton and Backing Vocalists the Jordanaires

    Also Includes Top 10 Singles Believe What You Say, It's Late, and Never Be Anyone Else But You;

Superb Sound: LP Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI

Ricky Nelson will forever be identified with the ageless single Lonesome Town. The career-defining smash is included here, on a record that arguably remains the picturesque idol's peak moment, a 1959 set on which the singer moves away from teen pop and towards serious rock nl' roll and rockabilly on par with the likes of Elvis Presley and Buddy Holly. Loaded with material expressly written for Nelson as well as tunes penned by Hank Williams and Johnny Cash, and featuring an all-star session musician band, Ricky Sings Again is a foundation-building 1950s album.

Exceeding the fidelity of any prior analog pressing and affording a warmth missing from Capitol's out-of-print digital reissues, this Silver Label LP, pressed at RTI and mastered on Mobile Fidelity's internationally acclaimed mastering system, teems with detail, presence, dynamics, and authority. With help from his legendary father, Ozzie, Nelson enjoyed superb studio production, heard here in the form of balanced instrumentation, natural tonalities, wide and deep soundstages, and you-are-there vocals. Studio dimensions, too, come across with palpable body and precision. Since the record is a collection, some of the tracks are in mono, others in early stereo.

Backed by a stellar band that includes Elvis Presley guitarist James Burton and in-demand studio bassist James Kirkland, Nelson delivers what remains a 1950s classic that stands up to everything recorded by his famous contemporaries. Burton mimics the sound of a train on One Of These Mornings, just one of the myriad tunes here on which the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member lays down fabulous lines and rockabilly licks that both shade and support the concise melodies. While largely recognized for the melancholy ballad Lonesome Town, one of four Top 10 singles on the set, Ricky Sings Again is as much about early rock n' roll and extraordinary singing. About that voice.

Simultaneously tender and rollicking, innocent and mature, Nelson conveys a rainbow of emotions, pouring over country-flavored weepers and beat-driven rockabilly numbers with equal parts sensitivity, smoothness, and sincerity. A surfeit of heavenly background harmonies and innovative guitar-led breaks make masterpieces out of upbeat offerings such as You Tear Me Up as well as slow-dance invitations like Old Enough to Love. Add the Jordanaires on back-up vocals, and there's something for everyone here.

No matter the performance, Nelson demonstrates time and again on Ricky Sings Again why he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the institution's second year of existence, and why, even more so than Elvis during 1958-59, he was the period's leading singles artist.

There were hundreds of talented rockabilly singers in the 50's, but it'd be really hard not to recognize at first listen the high-pitched voice (back then it was actually difficult for radio listeners to tell if he was a man or a woman) and the pre-teen rock 'n' bop anger that typecast 'The Blonde Bomber' as Ronnie Dawson was often referred to. He was actually in his teens when he got to write what is probably the best obscure rockabilly treasure of all time, that legendary Rockin' Bones hit, where Ronnie declares his wish to be buried with a stack of '45s and a phonograph. This collection features 24 singles and rare tracks, including many previously unreleased on vinyl, spanning from 1957 to 1960. A must have for any early rock and roll collector!

    Devils Brigade

Devils Brigade is an all-star punk group featuring Matt Freeman and Tim Armstrong of Rancid and DJ Bonebrake, drummer of X and the Knitters. Rancid fans have always cherished Matts deep punk growl on his featured songs on Rancid albums, and now Devils Brigade brings his singing, rockabilly-inspired bass slap, and classic punk songwriting to the fore. With Tim Armstrongs Duane Eddy lead guitar and the rock-steady rhythm of DJ Bonebrake, Devils Brigade offers up twelve songs that mix equal parts Johnny Cash, the Pogues, and Sun rockabilly, in a combustible cocktail that will have fans slamming on this falls tour with the Street Dogs. On tracks like Bridge of Gold with vocals by Armstrong, the band stretches out, adding mandolin and banjo to their sound, while Ride Harley Ride features some slinky vibraphone. Also features guest vocals from Rancids Lars Frederikson.

The all-times rockabilly legend Carl Perkins was born into humble beginnings and spent his early years picking cotton and playing electric guitar in a band with his brothers. Signed to Sun Records by Sam Phillips in 1954, he didn't get the big one till he recorded Blue Suede Shoes in 1956. After a fairly slow start, the song with the tremendous beat and novel words about the blue suede shoes started moving and became a million seller. When Johnny Cash left Sun to go to Columbia in 1958, Carl followed him over and recorded Whole Lotta Shakin in June of that year, reinterpreting most of the Sun Records singles hits that made him the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame elected star he later became.

Stray Cats is the first album from Rockabilly band Stray Cats, first released in the UK by Arista in 1981. It was successful in Britain, peaking at No. 6 on the UK Albums Chart, and produced the UK Top 40 hits Runaway Boys (No. 9), Stray Cat Strut (No. 11) and Rock This Town (No. 9). The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame later listed Rock This Town as one of the songs that shaped rock and roll.

Stray Cats debut album came hot on the heels of the two hit singles Runaway Boys and Rock This Town, both energy filled rockabilly songs that hearkened back to the 1950s era of pure rock & roll with an updated, clean '80s sound highlighted by the prominent double bass playing of Lee Rocker and drumming of Slim Jim Phantom.

This album was by far their most successful, hitting number six in the charts and their only entry into the Top 40.

    Uniquely Yours

A decade before he was topping the country charts, Joe Stampley fronted one of the deep souths most legendary and rockin 60s combos, the Uniques. Once signed to Shreveport, Louisiana-based Paula Records, the Uniques made waves nationally on their very first release, Not Too Long Ago. That pop classic (faithfully/recently covered by Nick Lowe) is just one of many highlights of their 66 debut LP, Uniquely Yours. According to the master tape, this record was originally going to be tagged The Uniques in Action; a shelved album title that could not have been more apt.

Finally reissued (and in fabulous mono, to boot), this is southern rock n soul at its finest; a real mÉlange of styles that swings wildly from deep-fried garage rock, frenzied frat-beat, infectious Stampley-penned pop, and gorgeously soulful ballads. From Presley and Gene Vincent to any Justice label 60s garage band worth mentioning, southerners have always littered their LPs with this latter fare. But when it comes to delivering a soulful ballad, Joe Stampley is up there with the very best of em. Uniquely Yours includes the groups all-time biggest regional hit, a cover of Art Nevilles All These Things (in its original mix, unadorned by string overdubs) and a Georgia (On My Mind) that simply blows away all other white boy soul renditions. But make no mistake, this is a largely uptempo set marked by the ferocious punk pace of You Aint Tuff, updated rockabilly funkiness of Fast Way of Living, blistering guitar workouts like Strange, plus some of the best damned covers ever waxed. For a positively unique album experience, Sundazed includes the classy period sleeve design from the original Paula release.

By The Light Of The Moon

Mastered from the original master tapes, Mobile Fidelity's numbered limited edition 180g LP brings these 11 songs to life and out of the clouded, foggy sonic environment in which they've remained for more than two decades. For the first time, T Bone Burnett's stripped-back production functions as it should. Namely, Los Lobos sound as if they're playing at a small, sweaty neighborhood joint late on a Sunday night for an audience of locals, friends, and family.

The group's uncanny ability to switch between instruments and effortlessly play each as if it's their innate right-listen to the seamless fashion in which electric and acoustic guitars, marimbas, organs, saxophones, harmonicas, and percussion create strikingly memorable soundscapes-comes to light amidst a warmer, airier, more organic and deep-black background.David Hidalgo's sweet, honeysuckle timbre, he and Cesar Rosas' overlapping tremolo guitars, and stacks of interwoven rhythms jump with vibrant electricity.

Shifting into storytelling mode, Los Lobos use By the Light of the Moon as an opportunity to meditate on everyday America and channel the fate of normal communities. Issues of faith, mortality, love, disillusionment, and melancholy inform narratives that are on the same socially conscious level as those of period-era Bruce Springsteen and John Mellencamp. As for the songs, they crackle, waltz, shuffle, dance, tremble, and kick. The band almost dares listeners not to care.

Whether leaning into twangy two-step country-rock ("One Night In America"), dual-guitar shootout rockabilly ("Shakin' Shakin' Shakes"), swinging jump R&B ("Is This All There Is?"), tequila-spiked East Los Angeles-style rock ("Set Me Free (Rosa Lee)"), searing Latin-tinged blues ("My Baby's Gone"), or poignant gospel-lined folk ("River of Fools"), Los Lobos' Tex-Mex gumbo continually impresses and delights.

Don't pass up one of the best releases of the 1980s and one of Los Lobos' definitive statements. You'll never hear a better pressing. Boleros, rancheros, and more await!

The wildly eclectic New Rhythm & Blues Quintet, better known to its worldwide legion of adoring fans as NRBQ (or just the Q!), is the only band on the planet that can play rockabilly, bar-band blooze, Beatles sound-alikes and Sun Ra-style free jazz in the same set and remain standing.

By the time keyboardist Terry Adams, vocalist Frank Gadler, bassist Joey Spampinato, drummer Tom Staley and fabulous new guitarist Al Anderson released Scraps, their wonderful second album in 1972, they had relocated from Florida to New Jerseyand, like their name says, they were actually a quintet for the only time in their career. The Smiths' eclectic 1985 release finds the band branching out into rockabilly, post-punk and flashes of funk, all while refining the guitar pop of their debut. Produced by Morrissey and Johnny Marr, Meat Is Murder is the band's sole studio album to reach #1 on the U.K. charts. The Headmaster Ritual and I Want the One I Can't Have are fine elaborations on the formula the band introduced on their debut, while Rusholme Ruffians is an infectious take on rockabilly. Bayou Country

    Newly Re-Issued 150 Gram Vinyl

Opening slowly with the dark, swampy Born on the Bayou, Bayou Country reveals an assured Creedence Clearwater Revival, a band that has found its voice between their first and second album. It's not just that Born on the Bayou announces that CCR has discovered its sound -- it reveals the extent of John Fogerty's myth-making. With this song, he sketches out his persona; it makes him sound as if he crawled out of the backwoods of Louisiana instead of being a native San Franciscan. He carries this illusion throughout the record, through the ominous meanderings of Graveyard Train through the stoked cover of Good Golly Miss Molly to Keep on Chooglin', which rides out a southern-fried groove for nearly eight minutes. At the heart of Bayou Country, as well as Fogerty's myth and Creedence's entire career, is Proud Mary. A riverboat tale where the narrator leaves a good job in the city for a life rolling down the river, the song is filled with details that ring so true that it feels autobiographical. The lyric is married to music that is utterly unique yet curiously timeless, blending rockabilly, country, and Stax R&B into something utterly distinctive and addictive. Proud Mary is the emotional fulcrum at the center of Fogerty's seductive imaginary Americana, and while it's the best song here, his other songs are no slouch, either. Born on the Bayou is a magnificent piece of swamp-rock, Penthouse Pauper is a first-rate rocker with the angry undertow apparent on Porterville and Bootleg is a minor masterpiece, thanks to its tough acoustic foundation, sterling guitar work, and clever story. All the songs add up to a superb statement of purpose, a record that captures Creedence Clearwater Revival's muscular, spare, deceptively simple sound as an evocative portrait of America.

    Gasoline Alley

Gasoline Alley follows the same formula of Rod Stewart's first album, intercutting contemporary covers with slightly older rock & roll and folk classics and originals written in the same vein. The difference is in execution. Stewart sounds more confident, claiming Elton John's Country Comfort, the Small Faces' My Way of Giving, and the Rolling Stones' version of It's All Over Now with a ragged, laddish charm. Like its predecessor, nearly all of Gasoline Alley is played on acoustic instruments -- Stewart treats rock & roll songs like folk songs, reinterpreting them in individual, unpredictable ways. For instance, It's All Over Now becomes a shambling, loose-limbed ramble instead of a tight R&B/blues groove, and Cut Across Shorty is based around a howling, Mideastern violin instead of a rockabilly riff. Of course, being a rocker at heart, Stewart doesn't let these songs become limp acoustic numbers -- these rock harder than any fuzz-guitar workout. The drums crash and bang, the acoustic guitars are pounded with a vengeance -- it's a wild, careening sound that is positively joyous with its abandon. And on the slow songs, Stewart is nuanced and affecting -- his interpretation of Bob Dylan's Only a Hobo is one of the finest Dylan covers, while the original title track is a vivid, loving tribute to his adolescence. And that spirit is carried throughout Gasoline Alley. It's an album that celebrates tradition while moving it into the present and never once does it disown the past.

The King Of Rock & Roll's Debut 1956 Album

First Time 180 Gram Audiophile Beautiful Translucent Blue Vinyl & First Time Gatefold Cover Presentation

Impeccably Mastered By Joe Reagoso & Pressed At R.T.I.

Elvis Aaron Presley was born during the Great Depression into a poor family in Mississippi. They moved to Memphis during the early fifties, and as a struggling young truck driver, Elvis cut some demos as a gift for his beloved mother Gladys. These initial songs, of which he had only paid a few dollars to record, would become the catalyst that would kick-start the beginnings of a soon to be worldwide superstar unlike the world has ever known.

The folks at RCA Victor knew that this young fellow named Elvis was destined for super stardom. They quickly signed the legend to a long-term deal in 1956, and his first RCA Lp simply titled Elvis Presley forever etched The King Of Rock And Roll trademark to his name. He would eventually become the most successful solo artist of all time!

Easily the first top selling rock and pop albums of the fifties, Elvis Presley was a treasure trove of his first RCA sessions and Sun session and included such great tracks as his signature Blue Suede Shoes, the rock-a-billy smash Just Because & the stellar balladry of Blue Moon.

More great Elvis tunes abound as he pays tribute to The Drifters with a rockin' version of Money Honey and the Ray Charles' classic I Got A Woman.

Featuring 12 of his most familiar tunes the debut Elvis Presley album went on to become one of his most memorable titles in his huge arsenal of masterful rock and roll albums, as well as one of the most copied album covers of all time.

Thanks to his finest rock smashes like Tryin' To Get To You and the piano rocker One Sided Love Affair, this debut masterpiece was just what the fans were screaming for, as the entire album was built around the framework of his new and exciting rock trademark sound.

    Gasoline Alley

    Numbered Limited Edition LP

Rod the Mods 1970 Landmark Set Tone for All Folk-Rock Albums That Followed

Evocative, Low-Key, and Rustic: Gasoline Alley Finds Stewart At His Peak

Mastered on Mobile Fidelitys World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI: LP Has Never Sounded More Organic, Warm, or Transparent

Backed By Fellow Faces Ron Wood, Ronnie Lane, Ian MacLagan, Kenny Jones

Stewarts Equally Iconic Every Picture Tells A Story Also Available on LP from Silver Label

No matter what era or phase of Rod Stewart you prefer, nearly everyone is unanimous in choosing the artists early 1970s output as his very finest. Proof comes courtesy of Gasoline Alley. A 1970 record that literally set the template for all folk-rock efforts that followed, the critically acclaimed album has been cited as one of the 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die and remains a blueprint for evocative vocals, low-key presentation, and incredible interpretation.

Barely removed from his debut, Stewart comes into his own on Gasoline Alley, essentially a largely unplugged record on which the singer surrounds himself with a transcendent blend of acoustic guitars, mandolin, fiddle, piano, and understated percussion and channels the music with a gritty, rock n roll attitude. The results? Tough, organic, warm, swaggering, and unfettered songs that bow to country, rockabilly, blues, and folk influences all the while managing to belong to their own genre. Its just one of the reasons why Gasoline Alley remains a study in distinctive excellence.

Another is due to Stewarts passionate singing. Sensitive, understated, wistful, and raggedly worn, he inhabits the role of a journeyman that inhabits the narratives on standard-bearing covers of Bob Dylans Only a Hobo, Elton Johns Country Comforts, and the R&B shuffle Cut Across Shorty. He conveys a bevy of complex emotionssadness, regret, optimism, sorrow, loss, humor, yearningwith a poignancy that suggests every song here is disarmingly personal. Of course, having a band sympathetic to his desires and directions, and one that claims the talent of players such as guitarist Ronnie Wood and organist Ian MacLagan, doesnt hurt matters.

Mastered on Mobile Fidelitys world-renowned mastering system and pressed at RTI (America's best record plant), this numbered limited edition LP allows Gasoline Alley to come across with unrivaled warmth, organic tones, and transparent presence. The signature acoustic-electric blend of rock, blues, soul, and country crackles with energy; midrange and highs are vastly improved, affording listeners a clearer image of the Faces dynamic contributions and chemistry. And Stewarts vocals take place right in your room. Wait until you hear the inflections and contrasts.

Dont hesitate on this all-time rock and folk classic.
