    First Official Reissue!

    Mastered from the Original Tapes

Co-produced by Motown Guitar God Dennis Coffey & Mike Theodore

Featuring Members of the Legendary Motown Players The Funk Bros.

Limited Edition Vinyl LP on 180 Gram Wax

Its one of the lost classics of the 60s, a psychedelic masterpiece drenched in colour and inspired by life, love, poverty, rebellion. The album is Cold Fact, and whats more intriguing is that its maker a shadowy figure known as Rodriguez was, for many years, lost too. A decade ago, he was rediscovered working as a menial day laborer in Detroit, Michigan. He was unaware that his defining album had become not only a cult classic, but for the people of South Africa, a beacon of revolution.

Rodriguez recorded Cold Fact his debut album in 1969, and released it in March 1970. Its crushingly good stuff, filled with tales of bad drugs, lost love, and itchy-footed songs about life in late 60s inner-city America. Gun sales are soaring/Housewives find life boring/Divorce the only answer/Smoking causes cancer, says the Dylan-esque
    Establishment Blues.

But the album sank without trace, thanks, in part, to some of Rodriguezs more idiosyncratic behavior, like performing at an industry showcase with his back to the audience throughout. When the follow-up, 1972s Coming From Reality, also sold poorly, Rodriguez called an end to his recording career. Hed never even played a proper gig. And he got on with life. Over the years, he turned his hand to local politics, gaining a degree in philosophy, factory work and eventually, hard labour.

As his music career became a memory, Rodriguezs legend was growing on the other side of the world. In South Africa, Australia and New Zealand, Cold Fact had become a major word of mouth success, particularly among young people in the South African armed forces, who identified with its counter-cultural bent. But Rodriguez was an enigma not even the label knew where to find him and his demise became the subject of debate and conjecture. Some rumours said hed died of a drug overdose or burned to death on stage. Others said he was in a mental institution, or in prison for murdering his girlfriend. Barring a couple of sold out Australian tours in 1979 and 1981, nothing had been heard of him for almost 30 years.

But the tide began to turn in 1996, when journalist Craig Bartholemew set out to get to the bottom of the mystery. After many dead ends, he found Rodriguez alive, well, free and perfectly sane in Detroit, ending years of speculation. Rodriguez himself had no idea about his fame in South Africa (the album had gone multi-platinum, Rodriguez has received not so much as a Rand in royalties), and embarked on a triumphant South African tour followed, filling 5,000 capacity venues across the country. A documentary named Dead Men Dont Tour: Rodriguez in South Africa 1998 was screened on national TV.

Rodriguez is spoken of in the same reverent tones as The Doors, Love and Jimi Hendrix.

    Searching For Sugar Man

The story remains one of the music world's most unusual tales of the 1970s: an obscure debut LP by a Detroit singer-songwriter becomes a source of hope and inspiration to the anti-Apartheid movement in South Africa. Now, the story of Rodriguez and his cult album Cold Fact is the basis for Searching For Sugar Man, a riveting new documentary by filmmaker Malik Bendjelloul. Light In The Attic Records in partnership with Sony Legacy are honored to announce the release of the original motion picture soundtrack, comprising tracks from Cold Fact and its 1971 follow-up Coming From Reality - both reissued in 2008 and 2009 by Light In The Attic. The soundtrack begins with the otherworldly "Sugar Man" and acts as a primer to this long-overlooked musician's fusion of gritty funk, political poetry and blissful psych-folk.

Searching For Sugar Man, a Red Box Films & Passion Pictures Production in association with Canfield Pictures & The Documentary Company, distributed by Sony Pictures Classics in the U.S., was a big hit at this year's Sundance Film Festival where it won the world documentary audience award and a special jury award, and then went on to screen at SXSW, Tribeca, and the Sheffield Doc Fest. The film opens in New York, Los Angeles, and London (via Studio Canal) on July 27th and will play in other cities throughout the coming months. For a complete release schedule, visit the film's website: www.SearchingForSugarManMovie.com.

Back in the late '60s, Rodriguez was discovered in a Detroit bar by renowned producers Dennis Coffey and Mike Theodore. They recorded a 1970 album that they believed was going to secure his reputation as one of the greatest recording artists of his generation. Instead, Cold Fact bombed, and despite the release of a second LP, entitled Coming From Reality and produced by Steve Rowland, Rodriguez drifted into obscurity, even being subject to some fantastic rumors of a dramatic onstage death.

Cold Fact took on a life of its own when a bootleg recording found its way into apartheid-era South Africa. Banned by the government, the album became a country-wide phenomenon over the next two decades, and the soundtrack to a resistance movement of liberal African youth. Back in Detroit, working in construction and renovation (he also ran for mayor), Rodriguez was totally unaware that he was not just a folk hero but a household name thousands of miles away.

Decades later, two South African fans, Stephen 'Sugar' Segerman and Craig Bartholomew-Strydom set out to find out what really happened to their hero, and their investigation led them to a story more extraordinary than any of the many myths they'd heard. Their story forms the basis of Searching For Sugar Man.

Both sides of the story, Rodriguez's life in Detroit and the subsequent impact of his music in South Africa, proved fascinating to Stockholm-based documentary filmmaker Malik Bendjelloul. His short documentary films for Swedish Television's international cultural weekly show Kobra became the basis for such films as Men Who Stare At Goats (George Clooney) and The Terminal (Tom Hanks). The evolution of the financing, production, and filming of Searching For Sugar Man is as fascinating and complex as the life of Rodriguez himself.

"I describe myself as 'musico-politico'," Rodriguez said recently. "I was born and bred in Detroit, four blocks from the city center. Back then, I was influenced by the urban sounds that were going on around me all the time. Music is art and art is a cultural force. As far as my work from Detroit comparing to the South African Apartheid, the similarities echo. The placards of the 1970s in the United States read things like: We Want Jobs and Stop the War - I was looking at the music from a working class perspective that was relevant, as it turns out, to the kids in South Africa."

    Love And Circumstance

2010's Love And Circumstance is the fourth solo full-length from singer/songwriter/musician Carrie Rodriguez. The 12-song collection was produced by Lee Townsend (Bill Frisell) and recorded with Hans Holzen (guitar), Kyle Kegerreis (bass) and Eric Platz (drums). Other artists appearing here also include none other than Bill Frisell (guitar), Greg Leisz (pedal steel/slide guitars), Aoife ODonovan (background vocals) and Buddy Miller (background vocals).

Carrie wraps herself around songs from influences and peers such as John Hiatt/Nick Lowe/Ry Cooder/Jim Keltner (aka Little Village), Buddy Miller & Julie Miller, David Rodriguez, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Richard Thompson, Townes Van Zandt, M. Ward, Merle Haggard & Bonnie Owens, Hank Williams, Lucinda Williams, and more. She even pays homage to her family heritage with the soulful Spanish ballad La Puñalada Trapera, popularized in the 1950s by her great-aunt, famed Mexican bolero balladeer Eva Garza.

"More importantly, the Catalonian quartet play with an unshakable conviction and
a lack of self-consciousness, recording straight-to-tape, letting the harmonies bleed
together and drums play at maxed-out levels." - Pitchfork

"Their first song for the label, "Silver Gold", is a sludgy track, drowning in slippery
distortion and Pixies-esque fire." - Impose Magazine

"Jazz Rodriguez Bueno, Carla Perez Vas, Antonio Postius and Leia Rodriguez pierce
the surface with unified cries, screams and howls that seize attention in a flash."-
    DIY Magazine

MOURN is a very young quartet formed from the friendship of Jazz Rodríguez Bueno and
Carla PÉrez Vas- both born in 1996 in El Maresme, Catalonia, Spain. The duo armed themselves
with inspiration from PJ Harvey, Patti Smith, Sebadoh and Sleater Kinney and began
writing material, which they quickly released, raw and acoustic, on their YouTube channel.
These recordings caught the attention of their homeland's Sones Records. Despite being
teenagers, earlier this year they came out of the studio (along with drummer Antonio Postius
and bassist Leia Rodríguez) with a brilliant treatise of indie rock that has stunned those who
have had the opportunity to listen to it. Jazz (18), Carla (18), Leia (15) and Antonio (18) came
together to present these tracks with authenticity and self-awareness beyond their age. With
the confidence only residing in youth, the Mourn debut was recorded live in the studio in
two days, proof of which is in their live-in-the-studio videos for singles "Otitis" and "YourBrain
is Made of Candy." Both tracks perfectly capture the bands' affinity for the brevity of The
Ramones with the lyrical and melodic sophistication of The Pixies.

One of the most underrated albums in Sonny Rollins' extensive catalog, What's New? is his second recording for the RCA Victor label, featuring performances with Jim Hall, Bob Cranshaw, Ben Riley, Dennis Charles, Frank Charles, Willie Rodriguez and Candido. Many of these songs find Rollins utilizing the Latin rhythms of Candido and, on the calypso Brownskin Girl, a vocal chorus interacts with the group. Mastered from original analog tapes by Grammy Award winner Bernie Grundman and pressed on 180gram audiophile-grade vinyl at Pallas in Germany, this reissue shines a new light on Rollins' 1962 masterpiece.

    From Dusk Till Dawn

From Dusk till Dawn: Music from the Motion Picture is the soundtrack album for the 1996 action-comedy-horror film, From Dusk till Dawn, directed by Robert Rodriguez and the screenplay was written by the legendary Quentin Tarantino.

The album is predominantly Texas blues, featuring such artists as ZZ Top, Stevie Ray Vaughan and his brother Jimmie Vaughan. The film's score was composed by Graeme Revell, and two short excerpts of his work are featured on the album.

There are also extracts of dialogue from the film. The Chicano rock band Tito & Tarantula, who portrayed the band in the Titty Twister bar, appears on the soundtrack as well.

Dreaming Is Sinking /// Waking Is Rising

    Pressed On Opaque Pink Vinyl

Southern California's Dayseeker has revealed key details about their new album and Spinefarm Records debut, Dreaming Is Sinking /// Waking Is Rising.

    Frontman Rory Rodriguez told AP:

This song is not only the start of our album, but it's also written for our dear friend who was a victim of sexual assault. This is a huge issue that we wanted to write about, not only to bring to light the trauma a person goes through when this happens but to hopefully offer solace to those same people as well.

    Regarding the album, Rodriguez furthered:

This album is our proudest work to date. From beginning to end, you will hear a full concept album following the journey of a man who has fallen into a deep coma and his long journey to escape the mental prison he finds himself in.

The album operates off an intricate concept: A man avenges the unspeakable crimes committed against his wife only to be bludgeoned into a coma. Locked in a vegetative state, changes erupt throughout his world, spanning the dissolution of his marriage and the death of his estranged mother. While his hospital bed doubles as a front row seat to the chaos, questions arise

Is any of this happening? Is it real? What does it mean?

Some of the answers may or may not be encoded within the 12 tracks comprising Dayseeker's 2017 conceptual third full-length album, Dreaming Is Sinking /// Waking Is Rising. Maintaining an inimitable and infectious intensity, the music represents a marked evolution for the Orange County group.

The Fate of the Furious (alternatively known as Fast & Furious 8 and Fast 8) is the eighth installment in The Fast and the Furious franchise. The film stars Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Michelle Rodriguez and Tyrese Gibson. Amid The Noise And Haste

DC-natives SOJA are thrilled to announce the release of new album "Amid the Noise and Haste" via ATO Records. It is band's fifth full-length and was produced by multiple GRAMMY award winning Jamaican producer Supa Dups (Bruno Mars, Eminem, Rihanna, John Legend). Featured
guests include Michael Franti, Damian Marley, J Boog and Collie Buddz.

Jacob Hemphill (lead singer/guitarist) and Bobby Lee (bass) met in the first grade in Virginia. The two instantly became best friends, finding common
ground through their love of hip hop, rock and reggae, which they performed together at middle school talent shows. Throughout high school, they met
Ryan Berty (drums), Kenneth Brownell (percussion) and Patrick O'Shea (keyboards) and formed SOJA. Rafael Rodriguez (trumpet), Hellman Escorcia
(saxophone) & Trevor Young (lead guitar) joined the band when things started to heat up.

Over the course of the past few years, SOJA has sold more than 200,000 albums, headlined shows in more than 20 countries around the world,
generated over 3 million Facebook fans, 60 million YouTube views, and attracted an almost Grateful Dead-like international fan base that grows each
tour, with caravans of diehards following them from city to city.

SOJA will be hitting the road this month with stops at Hangout Music Fest and California Roots Festival and will follow with a national run of amphitheater
performances on the Soulshine tour with Michael Franti & Spearhead, Brett Dennen and Trevor Hall.

    Me

"Can I make it clear?" Lorely Rodriguez asks within the opening moments of her debut album, Me. If clarity is what she seeks, Lorely has found it: her voice upfront, every word audible and strong. Her singular voice is the centerpiece of Me, her first full-formed vision of an album, following her previously shorter and more abstract releases as Empress Of. "Don't tell me who I am," she sings seconds later. Where her previous recordings worked in moody abstractions, layered soundscapes hinting at a voice deep under the surface, Me plays out like diary entries from one female voice musing on the personal, the political, and all the middle ground between. Bringing to life her unique blend of deeply personal yet incredibly celebratory dance music. However, "this record...it's about me," Lorely adds. "It's very much about my experiences. I learned how to let my voice out through this record. I learned how to record, how to produce. I learned how to write way better songs. I didn't realize this until i was almost done with it, but it was all about growth, and all about kind of being selfish and taking time for myself to really understand what events in my life have shaped me as a person."

What makes a record a true cult classic? First, it
must be released to a modicum of critical acclaim but zero commercial success. Second, in
almost all cases the artists behind the release
have to disappear immediately into obscurity.
And third, over the course of decades, a dedicated core of record collectors, critics and
true believers must spread the word about
the album in question. Well, by those standards, New York band Hackamore Brick's 1970 LP One
Kiss Leads to Another is the cult classic to end all cult classics (the
only recent contenders might be Rodriguez's albums Cold Fact and
Coming from Reality). Released on the bubblegum-centric Kama Sutra
label to positive reactions from critics ranging from Richard Meltzer to
Lenny Kaye, One Kiss sounded very different from anything else on the
label or, for that matter, anything else on the 1970 music scene; often
cited as the first post-Velvet Underground album, it does indeed provoke comparison's to VU's third, self-titled record and Loaded as well
as other descendants like the Modern Lovers and Television. But the
country-ish harmonies of vocalists Tommy Moonlight and Chick Newman lend the record a sound not unlike any number of current alternative "beard rock" bands plying their wares, and the discursive lyrics
    recall the Kinks.

In short, One Kiss Leads to Another passes the fourth
and hardest test of cult classic-dom, which is to remain relevant into
the present, even though Moonlight and Newman didn't record another
note together as Hackamore Brick until 2009. Real Gone Music is proud
to present this remarkable record on both vinyl and CD, with a bonus
track, the single side "Searchin'," appearing on both formats. Liner notes by Tony Rettman featuring quotes from Tommy Moonlight and pictures from the Hackamore

    Planetario

From their humble start, file-sharing musical ideas and producing their first album in separate countries during the dawn of the internet, Novalima is now a live musical force revered worldwide for breaking boundaries and uniting seemingly irreconcilable genres, communities, and generations. They have created an inspiring movement and revolutionized the music scene in their native Peru by bridging a longstanding divide between the mainstream and the minority Afro-Peruvian community, who have struggled against discrimination and cultural dissolution for generations. Over the last two years, Novalima created their newest offering, Planetario to be released June 16th on Wonderwheel Recordings. The album's name signals Novalima's musical growth and international connections - much of the album was recorded on tour when they collaborated with top local and international musicians. There is a strong connection to Colombia created through a remarkable recording session in Bogota organized by members of La-33 including Sidestepper vocalist Eka Muñoz, Pernett and La Mamba Negra. The album also has offerings from global artists such as Marc de Clive Lowe (UK/NZ), Panko from Ojos de Brujo (Spain), and Kumar (Cuban rapper based in Barcelona). The album's debut single, "Como Yo" (to be released May 19th on digital single and 7" vinyl) honors the legendary Peruvian percussionist and longtime band member Mangue Vasquez who passed away in 2014. Not one for sentimentality, Mangue implored his friends to celebrate his life with song and dance when he passed rather than shed any tears. The life affirming lyrics are underscored by rolling percussion, twinkling synths, and a celebratory sing-song chant chorus: Gozen la vida como yo - Enjoy life, like I do. Novalima has garnered worldwide critical acclaim from mainstream (NPR, UK Guardian, Wall Street Journal, La Presse, Metro, Billboard) and underground media (Giant Step, Remezcla, Nat Geo) alike, delivered legendary performances around the world at festivals such as Roskilde, WOMAD, Pirineos Sur, NYC Central Park, Montreal Jazz Festival and Chicago's Millennium Park, earned a Latin Grammy nomination for Best Alternative Album, and were featured in cult filmmaker Robert Rodriguez's hit Mexploitation movie Machete. For their upcoming year of international touring Novalima has designed a brand new live show that will debut in Lima at the Grand Teatro National on May 28th as part of the country's celebration of 100 years of Afro-Peruvian culture. Novalima''s international tour begins in North America this June.

    Kenya (Pure Pleasure)

This outstanding album, recorded in 1957, in honor of the then recently formed republic of Kenya, highlights the wonderful Afro-American and Afro-Cuban musical language Machito spoke so well.

In this album, Machito has combined all the elements needed in bringing the true meaning of Afro-Cuban jazz music to the listener. Machito, his musical director Mario Bauza, Rene Hernandez and A. K. Salim who along with Mr Bauza composed and arranged this music, define it this way: Afro-Cuban rhythm differs from other rhythms in that instead of the usual drums carrying the rhythmic beat, it is carried by Cuban percussion instruments such as the bongos, congas, timbales, guiros and maracas. Also, and even more elemental, is that although there are four beats to the bar as in all jazz, in Afro-Cuban jazz the beat is not played by any instrunments as such. It is felt, rather than actually heard. Afro-Cuban jazz is, in it's performance, the marriage of Afro-Cuban rhythm and soloists.

    Musicians:

    • Machito (vocal, conductor)

    • Mario Bauza, Doc Cheatham, Joe Newman (trumpet)

    • Cannonball Adderley (as)

    • Ray Santos (ts)

    • Santo Russo, Eddie Bert (trombone)

    • Rene Hernandez (piano)

    • Roberto Rodriguez (bass)

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

La Folia De La Spagna (Speakers Corner)

First mentioned around 1500 in Portugal, no forms or melodies have come down to us for the Folia. Described by historians as a noisy dance which was performed by masked and disguised figures who leapt about as though they had lost their reason, a tranquil, sarabande-like form asserted itself in Europe in the early 17th century.

GrÉgorio Paniagua, director of the Atrium Musicae de Madrid, demonstrates once again his virtuosity in his treatment of historical material. His arrangements are not confined to medieval and baroque instruments but also employ a whole arsenal of percussion, such as various small drums, triangle, tambourine, castanets and xylophone. As the title of the LP suggests, the ensemble adds spice to the airy variety of timbres with a small touch of madness here and there. Unbelievably, a jazz solo is heard which recalls the Pink Panther Theme, and the Orient is conjured up by two Indian tunes (ragas) in which the sitar chirps passionately to the powerful plop-plop-plop of tabla rhythms.

With its high resolution sound which places a high demand on hi-fi equipment in order to get the best reproduction, this record is both cult and legend.

    Saosin

Saosin is the debut album by post-hardcore band Saosin. Includes a matte finish with spot UV gatefold jacket and full color inner sleeve.

The long wait is over. California's Saosin issued their debut EP Translating the Name in 2003. They already had a well-developed fan base for their unique, even enigmatic brand of post-hardcore screamo. The band, having undergone some personnel changes -- most notably singer Anthony Green's departure in 2004 and the enlisting of Cove Reber as his replacement -- also underwent a sonic change on their self-titled 2005 EP. That primer was a guidebook to the band's new sound. Their Capitol debut, produced by Howard Benson, who also plays keyboards and does minimal programming, is a much slicker and far more imaginative outing than the band's underground fans may appreciate. That's not to say it's not impressive. It is. Quite so. This quintet are fine songwriters, excellent musicians, and have actually taken their post-underground hardcore beginnings and turned them into something that may indeed further rock music itself. This is not an idle claim. The songs on this album are tight, finished, and full of unexpected twists and turns, varied dynamics, fine lyrics, and, most of all, they're surprising. The hard twin-guitar sound at the front drives a rhythm section that is always in the pocket. Justin Shekoski and Beau Burchell work symbiotically with one another. They twin riffs and single lines without ever devolving into guitar heroics. They play as a unit. Reber's beautiful high-pitched voice walks the line but never resorts to screaming, because he doesn't have to: his instrument is powerful enough to ride the top of the musical swirl. The rhythm section carries the cradle of all this innovation, never slipping or abandoning these songs to mere workmanship. Check the killer counterpoint leads on Follow and Feel, and how drummer Alex Rodriguez takes the beat to the band inside the tune. When Reber enters with Don't let them know you're watching their situation crumble... his lyric is one of dislocation and the futile attempt to understand distance and dissolution. The killer, all-out rock riff in It's So Simple is beguiling as the song's dynamics and pace change three times inside of four minutes. That's the other beauty of this record; all but one track are under four minutes. The album flows from top to bottom; songs bleed into one another yet keep their distinctive identities. It's a strange comparison, but Saosin are as unique in their way as U2 were in their right from the beginning. Though they are seasoned road warriors, it's no mean achievement that a debut album carrying so much weight seemingly so effortlessly, is so utterly sophisticated and complete . Sure, Capitol will try to make them the next big thing, and maybe they should -- when's the last time you heard anything really new in rock music? Bury Your Head is the only track here that is a carry-over from Saosin's EP. Its woven textures, explosive singing, knotty basslines, and call and response vocals are chilling and utterly effective. Saosin walk that line between metal, indie rock, post-hardcore, and many other things. But that tautness is what gives their songs such power and ruddy grace. The album may garner the charges of sell-out from the underground, but musicians grow. In a relatively short time, Saosin has evolved into a smart, utterly talented and perhaps even visionary unit that is rewriting the book in the 21st century. They have delivered a debut album that is mature, truly original, that can garner the attention of those kids -- and hopefully, older adults who still care about rock -- from almost any side of the rock & roll spectrum. - Allmusic.com

    Manley Headphone Amplifier (Pre-Order)

Manley Laboratories have been designing and manufacturing professional and hi-fidelity audio equipment for the last twenty five years. Headphone listening has become more and more popular in recent years. To meet this new demand Manley have combined its professional and domestic engineering skills to develop a new and exciting groundbreaking product, The Manley Headphone Amplifier.

Headphone listening is not new to us, we have developed headphone mixers for the professional industry and our Neo-Classic 300B preamplifier was designed with the serious headphone listener in-mind, which now has quite a cult following. The new Manley Headphone Amplifier addresses absolutely every possible feature the headphone user could desire.

    Feature Rich

This feature rich product has no less than twelve independent controls designed for maximum performance and maximum control. We design and manufacture our own output transformers and this is where this product excels. The Manley Headphone Amplifier utilizes hand-wound air gapped dual mode output transformers. The user can configure the unit for all triode Push-Pull mode or Single-Ended mode. The transformer can be configured to drive three types of headphone loads, covering a range from 12 to 600 ohms.

The enthusiast can also vary the Feedback from 0dB to 10dB, maintaining a ruler-flat frequency response across the audio band, demonstrating how stable the design is. For increased transparency and accuracy we have incorporated a Precision Stepped Relay Volume control with perfect channel balance. A balance control is also available for extra sensitivity. The Manley Headphone Amplifier operates fully symmetrical, enabling it to drive balanced headphones through its XLR output. Also available is the standard non-balanced "Jack" plug or TRS connection. Another very useful feature is a preamplifier output, which routes your first input through the system when not in use, no need for unplugging sources! The Manley Headphone amplifier can also be used as a stand-alone transformer coupled preamplifier, so it can be partnered with any power amplifier if so desired.

With the advent of expensive and high technology headphones it was important for the Manley design team to think about protection. So the Manley Headphone Amplifier features a user defined headphone overload protection system. The user dials this in so precious headphones are never overdriven. For maximum performance and the lowest noise floor, The Manley Headphone Amplifier incorporates a very high-tech switching audiophile power supply. The high-tension and low-tension rails are all fully regulated offering super low impedance for a fast and dynamic response.

The Manley Headphone Amplifier also incorporates a tone control circuit what? for an audiophile product!! Yes! With the expertise gleaned from building professional studio equipment, we have incorporated the best possible solution for a tone control. It is completely switchable, so for the real purist it is completely out of the circuit, but if you need that slight adjustment for a hard digital recording the feature is there.

    The Design

The Manley Headphone Amplifier is a very unusual design. Zia Faruqi, who is responsible for running the engineering team and industrial design at Manley Laboratories, developed its concept. "I wanted a design that would reflect the use of this piece of equipment. Its shape was inspired by a head, a piece that you could rest your headphones on, a piece that you want to indulge yourself in" Mitch Margolis who worked on the Steelhead and our 300B amplifiers worked with our head engineer Humberto Rodriguez to finalize its design. Available in three different colors for today's lifestyle choices. Champagne & White, Titanium & Bronze and Copper & Black.

    Dope Machines

Every so often, one song can change everything. For The Airborne Toxic Event, that particular number happened to be an A Capella version of Queen and David Bowie's classic duet "Under Pressure".

"Somebody played it for me, and it blew my mind," declares vocalist and guitarist Mikel Jollett. "I made a decision to change my whole approach to music. I just wanted to be joyful about it. I wasn't going to worry anymore. For the first three records, I thought mostly like writer. My mindset changed. It was about inventing a musical logic that was unabashedly catchy and rhythmic, but way weirder than anything we've done in the past."

That "logic" came to life while Mikel composed "Hell and Back" for the Dallas Buyers Club soundtrack in August 2013. Under a tight deadline, he had no choice but to produce the track himself-a first for the Los Angeles outfit. However, he didn't stop there.

The frontman would go on to personally produce The Airborne Toxic Event's fourth full-length album and first for Epic Records Dope Machines with the blessing and support of Steven Chen [guitar, keyboards], Anna Bulbrook [violin, keyboard, backing vocals], Daren Taylor [drums], and Adrian Rodríguez [bass].

"Producing was massively challenging and super fun," admits Mikel. "When we finished the last record, our producer Jacquire King said to me, 'I think you're ready to produce an album now.' I felt like we had reached the apotheosis of being a proper rock band. This was the exact opposite. It was me alone in a room for 12 hours a day working harder than I'd ever worked."

Early in the process, Mikel tapped into a boundless aesthetic, embracing electronic elements as well as pop structures and unbridled rock 'n' roll bombast. At the same time, it defied categorization at every turn. "That's one of the hallmarks of the record," he affirms. "It doesn't sound like anything else."

The first single "Wrong" merges striking synths and an electronic swing with an evocative refrain punctuated by a robust groove. It's borderline danceable, but always chant-able.

"It's just about a guy feeling insecure," explains Mikel. "I wrote it at a time of massive upheaval in my life. We all have that moment. You look over everything and think, 'I am an idiot!' It's not every day, but you wish you could start over. That's the idea."

"California" turns a spotlight on a different side of the Golden State from the perspective of a true native. All the while, it still boasts an unshakable refrain and intricate instrumentation.

"I grew up in California," he goes on. "My parents were hippies, and I was born in the back of a VW bus on the beach. I was around everybody from Beatniks to gang members to kids who just emigrated from Guatemala or Ethiopia. None of this had anything to do with the popular image of what California is-that idea of palm trees and movie stars. As soon as you've got an idea of utopia, it begs a dystopia. It's an idea of apocalypse right around the corner in a place that's considered ideal."

Simultaneously, the title track tempers a distinct guitar bounce with entrancing harmonies, making for a provocative and potent dichotomy.

"You can interact with all of these dope hand devices, but they make you sort of dopey an hour later," he sighs. "You make music with them. They can save you from a heart attack. They're little extensions of the things that make us fundamentally human, which is the desire to interact with one another. The machines are all of these things at the same time."

In the middle of 2014 after moving on from Island Records, Epic Records C.E.O. L.A. Reid reached out and signed them-for the second time.

"L.A. signed us way-back-when at Island," recalls Mikel. "He literally saw us at Bowery Ballroom in New York, came backstage, and offered us a record deal. The moment we were free, he sent us a deal memo. It's a pleasure to be working with him again. He's a big believer, and he brings a lot of energy to this."

They've carried a similar energy through three full-length albums: The Airborne Toxic Event [2008], which spawned the gold-selling single "Sometime Around Midnight", All At Once [2010], and Such Hot Blood [2013]. In addition to reaching gold status, iTunes named "Sometime Around Midnight" the "#1 Alternative Song of the Year", and it spent a staggering eight weeks at #1 on Billboard's Heatseakers Chart. HBO utilized it on their high-profile Network Season Promo. The group has appeared on The Late Show with David Letterman four times, The Tonight Show with Jay Leno four times, and on Jimmy Kimmel Live! three times. Moreover, they've taken the stage at festivals including Coachella and Lollapalooza and sold over 50,000 tickets in 2013 alone.

In many ways though, Dope Machines signals something of a rebirth.

"It's like debuting a new phase," concludes Mikel. "It was a new approach. We've got a new label. We threw out everything we were tired of and moved on to a brand new palette. That was the goal. This isn't what The Airborne Toxic Event is supposed to be. This is who we are.

Right before Deerhoof began recording Deerhoof Vs. Evil, Greg Saunier, Ed Rodriguez, John Dieterich and Satomi Matsuzaki up and split from San Francisco (the only home they've ever known as a band) and left behind all notions of what a Deerhoof record sounds like. Self-recorded, mixed and mastered in rehearsal spaces and band members' basements with no engineers or outside input, Deerhoof vs. Evil dresses up Deerhoof's wellknown recklessness in a newfound elastic groove, one filled with big-hit choruses and exuberantly unfamiliar colors. The musical equivalent of hormones raging out of control, the record explodes out of the speakers with its gawky triumph and inflamed sentimentality.

    Crystal Fairy

Members of the Melvins (Buzz Osborne and Dale Crover), At The Drive-In (Omar Rodriguez-Lopez) and Le Butcherettes (Teri Gender Bender) have formed the roaring new rock band, Crystal Fairy.

"When the Melvins toured with Le Butcherettes, Teri would come out at the end of the set and do 'Rebel Girl' with us," explained drummer Dale Crover. "It was almost always the highlight of the show! From doing that, we knew there was some chemistry between us that was worth exploring. We became close friends with both Teri and Omar on the tour and came up with the idea of starting a new band with them."
