    If You Have Ghost EP

Earlier 2013, the flamboyant Swedish metal band Ghost B.C. - or, if you don't care about the only-in-America legal silliness that led to the name change, just Ghost - linked up with producer and famous rock dude Dave Grohl and covered Abba's "I'm A Marionette." Now, Ghost releases an EP of covers called If You Have Ghost; it'll also include their version of Depeche Mode's "Waiting For The Night."

For the EP's title track, the band once again hooked up with Grohl, who produced their version of "If You Have Ghosts," a 1981 freakout from the troubled Texan psych-rock survivor Roky Erickson.

    High Fidelity

Original soundtrack to the film High Fidelity (15th Anniversary).

Gen X rock buffs can revel in nostalgia with the High Fidelity soundtrack. The film centers on the romantic escapades of record-store owner and ex-club DJ Rob Gordon (John Cusack) and his full-time obsession with music. Since High Fidelity has as much to do with vinyl addiction as it does with the difficulties of love, great care has been taken with its selection of tracks, a solidly eccentric collection of heartache-heavy pop gems ranging from obscure '60s bands and groundbreaking artists like the Velvet Underground and Bob Dylan, to Stevie Wonder and Stereolab. As in the film, there's a method to the compilers' elitist rock-geek madness. Even co-star Jack Black's schlocky blue-eyed cover of Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On doesn't seem out of place.

The inspired screeches of acid-fried '60s singer-songwriter Roky Erickson's You're Gonna Miss Me set the pace for the musing, hangdog tone of the album. Besides the joyous licks of the Kinks' Everybody's Gonna Be Happy and Royal Trux's hybrid of hip-hip, techno, and aggressive rock on Inside Game, the bulk of the set is composed of moody folk-rock tunes like Dylan's exquisite Most of the Time and the Velvets' Oh! Sweet Nuthin. Other noteworthy tracks include Love's Always See Your Face, the Beta Band's Dry the Rain, Elvis Costello's wistful Shipbuilding, the stinging irony of Smog's Cold Blooded Old Times, and Stevie Wonder's soulful optimism on I Believe (When I Fall in Love It Will Be Forever). It's a fine, complementary batch of tunes that not only enhances the film's mood but is integral to its theme, and, as High Fidelity's Rob Gordon would agree, it'll go down as one of the top five soundtracks [originally] released in 2000. - Derrick Mathis (AllMusic)

    Idle No More

Idle No More is full of sweat-drenched, ass-shaking, groovy, psyched-out numbers complete with rip-roaring horn lines, southern-fried guitar riffs, and lysergic melodies.Imagine Roky Erickson backed by the Sun Ra Arkestra or Wilson Pickett and The Velvet Underground, or picture the love child of Anubis and Kali. King Khan & The Shrines are more than a psychedelic soul band with a spectacle of a stage show?they are a cult musical phenomenon and simply one of the most entertaining groups the world has seen and heard since the days of Ike and Tina.

    Jessie Jones

In 2013, Jessie Jones gave up her possessions, vanished into the nothingness of farm country, and found herself on interstellar overdrive - far away from her Disneyfied home in Orange County. For three years, she had fronted Burger Records' Feeding People, OC's answer to Black Sabbath. The teenage byproduct of gloomy acid trips and gospel choirs, Feeding People released two albums, got signed to Innovative Leisure in 2011, and played Low End Theory with Radiohead's Thom Yorke . The 19-year-old Jones, with her bluesy growl and whimsical melodies, was being compared to Jefferson Airplane's Grace Slick, Janis Joplin, and Screaming Females' Marissa Paternoster. In 2014, her voice returned to her with primal intent - like the caterwauling echoes of coyotes deep in the Hollywood hills. Earlier this year, Jones began singing with paranormal proto-punk outfit Death Valley Girls, which allowed her to release her demons and find salvation during what Jones describes as the most cosmically ordained project of her life. Reveling in the quantum wobble of her own alternative reality, Jones is now releasing her self-titled debut on Burger Records by channeling the voices in her head; not quite the sanitarium blues of Roky Erickson, but a mÉlange of Jim Morrison mysticism; a more stripped-down MGMT meets early-Grouplove; and Syd Barrett reverie. Under the guidance of producer Bobby Harlow (The Go) and Burger's Studio B, Jones' debut this summer will include guest appearances by drummer Duke Mushroom, violinist Hannah Glass, and Studio B regular King Tuff.

    I Am Very Far

The goal was to push my brain to places it didnt want to go. The idea was to not have any idea, to keep myself confused about what I was doing, frontman Will Sheff says about Okkervil Rivers newest album. The resulting record, I Am Very Far, is a startling break from anything this band has done before. By turns terrifying and joyous, violent and serene, grotesque and romantic, its a celebration of forces beyond our control.

On I AmVery Far, Sheff emerges not only as a songwriter of the highest caliber, but a producer and arranger of singular vision. Abandoning the tidy conceptual arcs of Okkervil Rivers previous albums, I Am Very Far is a monolithic, darkly ambiguous work, one that doesnt readily offer up its secrets.

Work on I Am Very Far started in early 2009, after a year spent on the music of others. Sheff contributed vocals to The New Pornographers album Together, wrote a song for Norah Jones The Fall, and helmed the Roky Erickson record True Love Cast Out All Evil, for which his album notes received a Grammy nomination. Immediately upon wrapping up work and leaving Ericksons company, Sheff drove to his home state of New Hampshire for lengthy isolated writing sessions. I wanted to go back home and re-start writing again, like Id never written a song previously, he says, and I wanted the music and lyrics to be both completely wedded together and a little bit beyond my control.

Sheff emerged from the writing process with 30 or so songs, which he narrowed down to 18. In contrast to Okkervil Rivers usual practice of holing up in one studio for months on end, he opted for a series of short, high-intensity sessions, each in a different location, each employing completely different methods than the one before it. For songs like Rider and Wake and Be Fine, Sheff gathered together a massive version of Okkervil River; two drummers, two pianists, two bassists, and seven guitarists, all playing live in one room, and led them on a week of live-in-the-studio marathon sessions, performing a single song obsessively over and over for as many as 12 hours to capture just the right take. Finishing the record from home, Sheff constantly edited and reworked the album, reinventing the song structures, re-recording vocals, re-writing until the very last minute, reshaping even the tiniest of details, ultimately creating an album that plays not only as a lush, seamless epic, but also as the most deeply personal effort of his career.

What can listeners expect? Richer and weirder than The Stage Names and deeper and moodier than even Black Sheep Boy, I Am Very Far is dense, fragmented, opaque. A reverie of uncertainty, it feels at once disorienting and oddly familiar, threatening and friendly. Okkervil River have thrown away all maps and compasses but they continue to chart their way, unblinking, toward destinations unknown.

Live Evolution Lost (Out of Stock)

Green, Blue, and Red Colored Vinyl Box Set

Live Evolution Lost: The 13th Floor Elevators Live at the Houston Music Theatre is the first ever release of the complete performance of the band's legendary show from 18th February 1967.

The trailblazing 13th Floor Elevators released the first "psychedelic" rock album in America, transforming culture throughout the 1960s and beyond. Formed in late 1965 in a small town in Texas by Electric Jug playing Tommy Hall, guitarist & vocalist Roky Erickson, guitarist Stacy Sutherland they were joined by bass player Benny Thurman, and drummer John Ike Walton; at a time where Baptist and Mormon preachers fought for the population's spiritual wellbeing, and Country & Western music filled the bars on a Saturday night. Out of these conflicting extremes, the Elevators were born and began making a name for themselves in the burgeoning music scene in Austin, Texas.

Though Roky Erickson was the frontman, the group's sound and philosophy were created by the unpredictable & impulsive Tommy Hall. The Elevators followed their own spiritual cosmic route searching for a new path to enlightenment whilst all the while creating a reputation for excess. The band developed a sound that merged garage-punk and psychedelic experimentation. Their music, from the beginning, played and created under the influence of LSD, was raw, ambitious and hugely experimental with Sutherland's pioneering use of reverb and echo, and bluesy, acid-drenched guitar mixed with Tommy Hall's innovative electric jug 'psychedelic rock' was conceived.

A three album edition, on green, blue and red heavyweight vinyl, which for the first time features the whole of the Elevators' historic gig on 18th February 1967 at the Houston Music Theatre. It catches the band with its classic line-up before the release of 'Easter Everywhere' and is the only known complete recording of an Elevators' gig, and the latest to survive. Mastered by Sonic Boom and put together by band expert Paul Drummond, it includes one reel unissued for over forty-five years.

Four Craig Leon-produced tracks released on BOMP -- which is the parent company of Voxx -- and five demo tapes that were recorded on four-track comprise this excellent collection. When I Get Off was the number two Garage Record of the Year in 1978 in Boston's Real Paper, and it is a psychedelic masterpiece. The dueling guitars, slashing riff, and great Corraccio bass complement Mono Mann aka Jeff Connolly's blitzkrieg vocals. Here is a slice of pyschedlia that is the fans outdoing the bands they idolize. Also, as with Willie Alexander's demos, it seems Craig Leon did a much better job on smaller budgets. The lyrics are sexist, but fun in Barracuda -- definitely not the Heart song -- Lift up Your Hood, and the aforementioned When I Get Off. There is also a cool cover of Roky Erickson's You're Gonna Miss Me and a fantastic album jacket of the band photographed at what looks like the Rat nightclub inside a red background covered in barbed wire fence. There's even a cool inside joke, Bomb records instead of Bomp, the famous label founded by Greg Shaw. A definite statement about the heart and soul of demos having a special something major-label homogenization fails to establish. Rudy Martinez of Question Mark & the Mysterians has even covered a Connally composition written for Mono Mann Jeff's current group, the Lyres.
