    Thank You

This is Royal Trux's 1995 Virgin label debut produced by long time Neil Young collaborator David Briggs. Thank You was recorded almost completely live in the studio and Briggs' production and influence is readily apparent in this grimy piece of rock'n'roll. Neil Hagerty's guitar playing is wandering into noise land via unique and memorable solos but also transforming into something resembling '70s riffs while Jennifer Herrema outdoes herself and actually sings. Thank You, giving way to some surprisingly catchy tunes, is as good as modern rock classics go. A great, greasy work of non-commercial alternative rock fueled by cigarettes and junk food.

    High Fidelity

Original soundtrack to the film High Fidelity (15th Anniversary).

Gen X rock buffs can revel in nostalgia with the High Fidelity soundtrack. The film centers on the romantic escapades of record-store owner and ex-club DJ Rob Gordon (John Cusack) and his full-time obsession with music. Since High Fidelity has as much to do with vinyl addiction as it does with the difficulties of love, great care has been taken with its selection of tracks, a solidly eccentric collection of heartache-heavy pop gems ranging from obscure '60s bands and groundbreaking artists like the Velvet Underground and Bob Dylan, to Stevie Wonder and Stereolab. As in the film, there's a method to the compilers' elitist rock-geek madness. Even co-star Jack Black's schlocky blue-eyed cover of Marvin Gaye's Let's Get It On doesn't seem out of place.

The inspired screeches of acid-fried '60s singer-songwriter Roky Erickson's You're Gonna Miss Me set the pace for the musing, hangdog tone of the album. Besides the joyous licks of the Kinks' Everybody's Gonna Be Happy and Royal Trux's hybrid of hip-hip, techno, and aggressive rock on Inside Game, the bulk of the set is composed of moody folk-rock tunes like Dylan's exquisite Most of the Time and the Velvets' Oh! Sweet Nuthin. Other noteworthy tracks include Love's Always See Your Face, the Beta Band's Dry the Rain, Elvis Costello's wistful Shipbuilding, the stinging irony of Smog's Cold Blooded Old Times, and Stevie Wonder's soulful optimism on I Believe (When I Fall in Love It Will Be Forever). It's a fine, complementary batch of tunes that not only enhances the film's mood but is integral to its theme, and, as High Fidelity's Rob Gordon would agree, it'll go down as one of the top five soundtracks [originally] released in 2000. - Derrick Mathis (AllMusic)

Psychic Ills Fourth album, One Track Mind, features collaborations with and some production by Neil Michael Hagerty of Royal Trux / The Howling Hex and features artwork by former 13th Floor Elevators songwriter and artist Powell St.John. NNA is very proud to present our second release from Canadian hero Alexander Moskos' Drainolith project. Following up 2012's "Fighting!" full length LP (Spectrum Spools), "Hysteria" reaches new levels in the Draino sound world, resulting in his most fully realized record to date. Moskos has spent years marinating solo in the cold Northern underground, cutting his chops as lead axegrinder with Montreal-based noise punks AIDS Wolf, and most recently rolling with North American all-star clan Dan'l Boone. "Hysteria" is the result of nearly two years spent in various studios with producers and fellow 'Boone brothers Nate Young (Wolf Eyes) and Neil Hagerty (Royal Trux), working diligently together to take a few steps beyond Trip Metal and extract the skeleton out of "rock", inserting it into a newer, much weirder, humanoid skin.

    Thanks For Stickin' With Twig

    Gold Colored Vinyl

Thank You For Stickin' With Twig is the latest long-playing
album from the artist known to the world (or at least to
his mother) as Slim Twig. Coming out July 14th, 2015 on
DFA, you may be surprised to know that it represents the
fifth album by the Toronto based songwriter / producer.
Twig has released these previous records among a swath
of EP's, singles and one-offs, displaying in the process a
complete disregard for genre or consistency. The evolution
from Contempt!, his sample-stained 2009 debut, through
to A Hound At The Hem, his symphonic tribute album to
Nabokov's Lolita (reissued by DFA in 2014), is not entirely
linear, although intriguing all the same. Like so many surfsmoothed
stones lining the beach shore, briefly unburied
only to be discarded once deemed un-skippable, so Twig
has gone about seeking the proper rock to cast at just
the right angle. One can see why he extends a gratuity to
    those listeners who've stuck around.

Thank You For Stickin' With Twig is to date the most
sonically immersive album in Twig's discography. Where
some records have focused explicitly on sample-based
songwriting, while others have been completely liverecorded,
the new album arrives at a perfectly produced
fusion of fidelities. It hovers, glamorously caught between
a cloud of obscurant, half-speed tape hiss, and the most
stoned Jeff Lynne production you've ever heard. Twig
flirts here with a variety of vibes, most often opting for a
three dimensional approach whereby a warped tape aura
is overlaid with colourful, laser-cut keyboard and guitar
melodies. A fetishization of analogue texture is married to
a digital approach. All the while, we find Twig irreverently
raiding classic rock of its symbolism, sexuality, and social
ambition for ulterior subversions. In this respect, TYFSWT's
closest cousin may be Royal Trux's Accelerator.

    Oracular Spectacular

Despite being founded in Connecticut by Benjamin Goldwasser and Andrew VanWyngarden in 2002, MGMT from the start sounded more Brooklyn than Bedford Avenue. Their productions are hard to describe, but if you mix psychedelic with proto-electro punk, shake it up with art noise and add some indie-pop, you just might have got the picture.

Oracular Spectacular is the first major label studio album by MGMT and ultimately enjoyed both critical approval and commercial success, with the album selling over 500,000 copies in the U.S. and going platinum in Australia, the U.K., and Ireland. Oracular Spectacular features MGMT's signature song Kids, the funky track Electric Feel (famously covered by Weezer) and the smashing opening track Time to Pretend. The tunes sound classic and new all at once, paying homage to Bowie, the Kinks, and the Stones, while updating traditional progressions with flashes of Royal Trux, Ween, and LCD Soundsystem.

Oracular Spectacular was named the best album of 2008 by NME and In 2009, Rolling Stone named it the 18th-best album of the decade.

    Where Were You Then?

Further was a decidedly west coast indie rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1991 by brothers Darren and Brent Rademaker, Josh Schwartz and Kevin Fitzgerald. The Rademaker brothers along with Josh went on to form Beachwood Sparks and The Tyde respectively, Kevin Fitzgerald became the drummer for the Circle Jerks and the west coast lo-fi California indie rock sound actually became a thing with the kids. Overdosing on Weed, Surfing and Dinosaur Jrs You're Living All Over Me as well as flat out turning down major label offers, Further was fuelled by DIY spirit and their music tested the boundaries from the lowest of fidelity to the indie-est of rock...with re-leases on Bongload Records (home of Beck's Loser 12), their own Christmas Records, Ball Product (Creation Records), Fierce Panda and many more. Further received acclaim from the UK press including a 9 out of 10 review in the NME as well as Peel Session from long time fan John Peel. Further were a permanent fixtures on the LA indie scene where they shared bills with eve-ryone from the likes of Pavement, Beck, Flaming Lips, Mercury Rev, Royal Trux, Urge Overkill, Archers of Loaf, Codiene...real indie-rock, you get the picture? Friends of Lou Barlow from Dino-saur Jr, Further had a knack of exploding into Dinosaurs sonic territory. When Further went on tour with Sebadoh in the 90s, Lou was asked by the NME if he had anything to say to J Mas-cis...? Lou replied smugly...ever heard FURTHER? This record compiles the best of the singles and EP tracks from 1991 to 1997 all re-mastered from the original vinyl.
