A Stereo Spectacular - Saint Saens: Symphony No.3

RCA Living Stereo classical LPs - the gold standard for top quality orchestral performance and sound!

Remastered and cut at 33 1/3 RPM by Ryan Smith at Sterling Sound

Lacquers plated by Gary Salstrom and pressed on 200-gram vinyl at Quality Record Pressings!

This performance of the Saint-Saëns Symphony No. 3 (Organ Symphony) is a favorite Living Stereo release. To say that it is incredible might be an understatement. The original 3-track session tapes were used in mastering for the LPs and SACDS in this Analogue Productions reissue series. The record reveals all of the glory of the recording and the precision and passion of Munch and the Boston Symphony Orchestra in Boston's Symphony Hall. It doesn't get any better than this.

Bizet - Carmen Fantasy (Speakers Corner)

Some violinists enrapture their audience with their purity of tone, others with their warm timbre, or their amazing technical virtuosity. Pablo de Sarasate y NavascuÉz was one of the very few violinists who combined all these merits, and in addition was a composer in his own right. The most famous of his 50 works are Zigeunerweisen, based on traditional gypsy folklore and the fiendishly difficult Carmen Fantasy.

And what better proof is there than Saint-Saëns's Rondo capriccioso that it is perfectly possible to unite high-spirited joyfulness with a minor key. As the name suggests, his Havanaise is filled with the melodies and colourful rhythms of Spain: no wonder this piece is known as "the violinists' warhorse".

It goes without saying that these 19th-century bravura pieces are an absolute "must" for all those who wish to join the annals of great virtuoso violinists. And today, 40 years after the making of this recording, general consensus has it that Ruggiero Ricci has taken his rightful place among the great virtuosos.

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Arpeggione Sonata

    All Analogue AAA Recording

Mastered by Kevin Gray from the Original Analogue Tapes

    Pressed at Pallas in Germany

This release features Gary Karr performing with Harmon Lewis on piano for a group of classical pieces, folk songs, and carols by Schubert, Rachmaninoff, Saint-Saens, and more.

Although it features Schubert's Arpeggione Sonata, the gem on this recording is a Canadian folksong, When I Wake Up in the Morning. It has been a staple encore piece of the Karr/Lewis Duo for 30 years since they lived in Nova Scotia.

Gary Karr, acclaimed as the world's leading solo bassist (Time Magazine), is, in fact, the first solo doublebassist in history to make that pursuit a full-time career. It is a career that adds new lustre to his already lustrous 1611 Amati doublebass which was given to him by the widow of Serge Koussevitzky.

Since his debut with Leonard Bernstein and the New York Philharmonic in 1962, Karr has performed as soloist on six continents with orchestras, including the Chicago Symphony, London Philharmonic Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic, Montreal Symphony, Simon Bolivar Orchestra (Caracas, Venezuela), Jerusalem Symphony, Oslo Philharmonic, Zurich Chamber Orchestra, and with all the major orchestras of Australia.

Henderson - Prokofiev: Peter And The Wolf / Saint-Saens: Carnival of the Animals (Speakers Corner)

For those who enjoy a pun, Saint-Saëns's Carnival of the Animals and Prokofiev's symphonic tale for children Peter and the Wolf might well be described as "beastly". And this recording makes no exception for it is, indeed, quite spectacular! Both works are introduced by the roaring and screaming of the inhabitants of London Zoo. The individual orchestral instruments are introduced during the course of the music and are commented upon by a human voice in a narrative.

The characters and animals are each given a characteristic theme which is presented by a particular instrument or register. While Prokofiev wrote his composition with a pedagogic purpose in mind, Saint-Saëns's main aim was to create a piece of musical fun. The mischievous work not only offers a lively depiction of various animals and even hollow-sounding fossils (by means of the xylophone), but also contains numerous tongue-in-cheek references to works by great composers.

These two musical masterpieces combine humour with education in a thoroughly fascinating and enchanting manner and are equally loved by children and adults alike. The interpretation and sound of this DECCA LP certainly earns first prize for being "beastly"!

200-Gram Vinyl LP Pressed At Quality Record Pressings

Mastered From The Original Analog Master Tapes By Kevin Gray At CoHEARent Audio

    Stoughton Printing Old-Style Deluxe Film-lamination Tip-On Jacket

This is a gem of an audiophile record, a showcase for one of the truly great
20th century violinists - Nathan Milstein - whose skill and instrumental
mastery matches peers more widely and famously known: Perlman, Heifetz,
Haendel, Menuhin, Oistrakh, Szeryng and a handful of other soloists.
Clean copies of this album remain super desirable and regularly fetch in
    excess of $500 from collectors.

The range of music undertaken in this collection - from the classical
expression of Mozart to the salon civilities of Saint-Saëns - confirms
what was served notice by Milstein's American debut with the Philadelphia
Orchestra in 1929 - a young artist of special consequence had arrived
among us. Here, Milstein is backed by The Concert Arts Orchestra
conducted by Walter Susskind for this recording of violin and orchestra
    masterpieces.

Milstein was a Russian Empire-born virtuoso violinist and American immigrant.
It was a concert by the 11-year- old Jascha Heifetz that inspired his
parents to make a violinist out of Milstein. At age 7, he started violin studies
(as suggested by his parents, to keep him out of mischief) with the eminent
violin pedagogue Pyotr Stolyarsky, also the teacher of renowned violinist
David Oistrakh. When Milstein was 11, Leopold Auer invited him to study
at the St. Petersburg Conservatory. Milstein made his American debut in
1929 with Leopold Stokowski and the Philadelphia Orchestra. He eventually
settled in New York and became an American citizen, but toured
    repeatedly throughout Europe.

Milstein was a technical perfectionist, obsessed with articulating each note
perfectly. He would spend long hours working out fingerings which would
make passages sound more articulated. He arranged many works for violin
and wrote his own cadenzas for many concertos. As a recording artist with
Capitol Records, his discs of recital repertoire bloomed with musical taste
    and stylistic versatility.
