Carlos Santana & Buddy Miles: Live! (Speakers Corner)

'Live' was the watchword of the liberated and permissive post-Woodstock era, when anyone and everyone could do wonderful things and musicians really let themselves go - and it opened the door for Santana and his musicians. While devotees of pure styles found it hard to dip into the bubbling melting pot of progressive rock, others - hungry for emotion - plunged eagerly into the moloch world known as 'Sounds of the 70s'.

Among the great events during this time was the get-together of Santana and a grandiose group of musicians together with Jimmy Hendrix's ex-drummer Buddy Miles at the Sunshine Festival in Hawaii. Inspired by the electrifying atmosphere we hear the smacking sound of an organ in John McLaughlin's Marbles, lush rocking Latin grooves (Lava) and gospel-like vocal artistry (Evil Ways). After an intensively re-worked version of the old favourite Them Changes, in which the band certainly lets one know that they can be 'heavy' when they want, the musicians let themselves go in 25 improvised minutes in Free Form Funkafide Filth. Such unleashed power could never be tamed and captured on tape in the studio simply because it can only be created in the freedom of an open-air stage.

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Pressed On 2x 180-Gram Vinyl

    Includes Bonus CD

'Live & Louder,' The Dead Daisies' highly-anticipated live outing, is set for release on Spitfire Music / SPV and perfectly captures the awesome vibe of their supreme, sweat-drenched, roof-raising live sets, recorded on a heady high at the end of an unbelievable 2016.

Not to turn down a good opportunity, the band recorded a number of shows on their UK / European Tour with the same team that made 'Make Some Noise' blow speakers worldwide. The album was mixed by Anthony Focx (Aerosmith, Bad Company, Metallica, Santana) at Focxhole Studios and mastered by Howie Weinberg.

They assembled a true monster in the vein of the great live albums of the 70s. You can feel the sweat drip from the ceilings and the energy of the crowd becoming one with the band, as they scream, holler and forget about our often mundane reality for a night of true Rock'n'Roll.

Warts 'n all, 'LIVE & LOUDER' is a document of a band in their prime; a raw slice of visceral energy, an in-your-face assault on the senses. Simply: THE DEAD DAISIES in their element and at their best!

    Santana III (Awaiting Repress)

Santana III on Numbered Limited Edition LP from Mobile Fidelity Silver Label

Last Santana Album Recorded With Famed Woodstock Band

With Guitar Virtuoso Neal Schon in Fold, Santana Makes Musical Magic That Truly Spans the Globe years Before "World Music" Became a Genre

Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI: LP Breathes With Sumptuous Warmth

The final Santana album recorded with the leader's famed Woodstock lineup, one of the most capable and explosive bands ever assembled, Santana III (commonly referred to as The Third Album) is a beacon of Latin-tinged rock, melodic creativity, and cohesive interplay. The record also marks the debut of young guitar virtuoso Neal Schon, who functions as the ideal foil to Santana, whose playing on this 1971 set rivals that of the finest in his career. If not for arriving after the monumental Abraxas, it is likely Santana III would be mentioned in the same breath as groundbreaking psychedelic classics such as Bitches Brew. It's that good.

Embracing the concept that all of the members should share their musical ideas, Santana added two crucial components to his band: Schon, discovered at the age of 15 playing in a Palo Alto club, and Thomas "Coke" Escovedo, who during the sessions temporarily replaced ill percussionist Chepito Areas, and whose percussive assistance helped define the album's feel. With Schon in the fold, Santana strives for the unknown, and yet, manages to stave off the numbing excesses that define much of the period's output.

From the opening "Batuka," peppered with Schon's stirring guitar lines, to the sensitive "Everything Is Coming Our Way," infused with a mesmerizing Hammond organ underpinning that supports Santana's vocal pathos, the record teams with inventiveness. Involving albeit accessible concoctions of funk, jazz, rock, blues, and soul run throughout the set. Spanish-styled flavors infuse a majority of the material, ranging from the salsa piano on "Guarjira" to the distinctive "No One to Depend On," a lively take on the cha-cha-cha.

A globe-spanning armada of percussive instruments-timbales, congas, drums, vibes, tambourines, and more-as well as the existence of a three-person percussion team that fits in harmoniously with Santana, Schon, and company makes Santana III a masterful accomplishment in musical chemistry and the exploration of true world craft.

The Silver Label LP of Santana III breathes with sumptuous warmth and you-are-there realism. The tension of Schon's guitar lines, the album's open sound, and extensive use of studio echoes (check the presence of the backward echo on "No One to Depend On") fill the soundstage, replete with the kind of depth and dynamics one expects from a first-rate audiophile recording.

Eric Johnson: Live From Austin, Texas

Fasten your seatbelts for an extraordinary ride
with guitar hero Eric Johnson. This is the performance that fellow
guitarists, wannabes and fans have been waiting and dying for since this
show first aired in 1989. And for good reason: Johnson's playing has a
way of connecting to fans of every guitar style while still eliciting raves
from the likes of Carlos Santana, Johnny Winter, Jeff Beck, Stevie Ray
Vaughan and even country music legend Chet Atkins. His inspirations are
the "3J's:" Jimi Hendrix, Jerry Reed, and Jeff Beck, but his style ranges
wide and free throughout the entirety of guitar history while still infusing
    fresh ideas of his own.

A long-time Austin mainstay, he took up guitar
at age eleven and had his first professional group at fifteen. In 1974, he
defied the musical mainstream by forming Austin's first jazz/rock fusion
band, the Electromagnets, and he's been making guitar history ever since.
"Guitar genius" is an easy phrase to throw around, but when it comes to
blending fires and finesse, Eric Johnson has it all.

Includes Don't Throw Your Love On Me So Strong, Feeling Groovy, Green Onions and Dear Mr. Fantasy

The Live Adventures of Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper is a double album recorded at the Fillmore West venue in San Francisco. The album is the follow-up to the studio album Super Session which included both Bloomfield and Kooper in addition to Stephen Stills, and had achieved commercial and critical success earlier in 1968.

In regards to the performances, recordings and production, in the sleeve notes Kooper describes the difficulties of finding rehearsal space, Bloomfield's insomnia, and the failure of a vocal microphone during Dear Mr Fantasy. The album is an important, if raw, document of a live blues-rock performance of the period and is notable for not only one of the earliest live recordings by Carlos Santana, but also Bloomfield's debut as a vocalist. Whilst he is not historically noted in this role, in Don't Throw Your Love on Me So Strong, according to Kooper, he displays consummate homage to the traditional guitar-voice trade-offs; a lesson in phrasing and understanding.

The Live Adventures Of Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper

In the wake of the success of their seminal 1968 Super Session release, blues-steeped guitar hero Mike Bloomfield (Butterfield Blues Band and Electric Flag) and multi-talented keyboardist/singer Al Kooper (Blues Project and Blood, Sweat & Tears) teamed up again for a historic series of joint performances as San Francisco's legendary Fillmore West, which are documented on The Live Adventures of Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper.

The resulting live album, culled from three nights' worth of shows and released in 1969, is a powerful testament to the formidable musical chemistry of these two rock legends, whose collaboration began when they played on Bob Dylan's classic Highway 61 Revisited. The Fillmore performances bring out the best in both musicians, who stretch out on assortment of tunes, including the Kooper/Bloomfield original Her Holy Modal Highness, Paul Simon's The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy), The Band's The Weight, Booker T. and the MGs' Green Onions and Albert King's Don't Throw Your Love on Me So Strong, which features a rare Bloomfield vocal. The album also features guest appearances by Elvin Bishop and Carlos Santana.

Unavailable in its original format for decades, The Live Adventures of Mike Bloomfield and Al Kooper has been meticulously restored to its original double-LP form for this vinyl reissue, using Sundazed's exacting technical and aesthetic standards. The album is pressed on high-quality, high-definition vinyl, and duplicates the album's original gatefold cover art, including legendary artist Norman Rockwell's iconic cover painting of Bloomfield and Kooper.

Even though Santana had been famous for his live shows since his performance at Woodstock, this 1977 album was his first live release (be it interspersed with a number of studio recordings). It showcases the best of Santana in the mid-seventies: the Latin infused Blues/Rock, the spiritual Jazz Fusion, the unstoppable energy of Santana on stage. A cover version of the mid-60s song 'She's Not There' by The Zombies was released as a single and it became Santana's first top-40 hit in over five years.

    Borboletta (Speakers Corner)

After some hot live performances and subversive jaunts made in the aftershock of Woodstock, Santana and his band entered the calm atmosphere of the recording studio to make their sixth album. Taking a look at the blue butterfly on the LP cover, it wasn't surprising that purist Santana fans scented that the music in this particular garden would be more gentle and cultivated than the previous hard-rock sound. But one thing after another: in attune with semi natural sounds, the 'Canto De Los Flores' swings along to dabbed figures on the Rhodes piano and waves of multi-cultural drumming.

The drama continues with Life Is Anew - a powerfully arranged ballad, followed by a highly emotional rock number (Give And Take). This takes us to where Santana feels most at home - Promise Of A Fisherman with its velvety, wonderfully expansive guitar sound. By now, at the latest, the listener joins the sensitive outdoorsman on his chase after the butterfly named Boborletta with a wealth of gorgeous sounds. Don't hesitate to capture this rare specimen for your collection!

    Spectrum Road

Spectrum Road is a groundbreaking collaboration between four giants of modern music: Jack Bruce, Vernon Reid, John Medeski and Cindy Blackman Santana. Named after one of the incendiary tracks on the original Tony Williams Lifetime album, Spectrum Road demonstrates on their self-titled debut, however, that they are in no way a tribute band.

After making rock history with Eric Clapton and Ginger Baker in Cream, legendary British bassist Jack Bruce joined the Lifetime for two records thus serving as Spectrum Road's direct connection to their muse. The group is artfully rounded out by famed guitarist Vernon Reid, of Living Colour, and multi-keyboardist John Medeski, one-third of the juggernaut Medeski, Martin & Wood.

Made famous by her ten plus years backing Lenny Kravitz, Cindy Blackman Santana has distinguished herself as an impressively versatile player who's as comfortable on post-bop sessions with Joe Henderson and Wallace Roney as she is touring with pop stars like Kravitz and husband Carlos Santana. The formidable line-up of Spectrum Road assures the legacy of Tony Williams lives on, and clearly qualifies as a major 2012 music event.

    Lickety Split (Discontinued)

Robert Randolph, the slide guitar jam/rock/blues phenomenon who's been captivating global audiences for a decade, announced to reporters assembled at Eric Clapton's Crossroads Music Festival in Madison Square Garden that his long-awaited new album is titled Lickety Split. The new record is Randolph's first for Blue Note. Lickety Split represents the first new studio album for Randolph & The Family Band in three years.

"This record has elements from all of our earlier records," Randolph explains. "There are cool songs with lots of guitar and we can see the growth of our band in the new recordings." "With this record we got to reconnect with the originality and creativity that fans fell in love with from the very beginning. This is the music that we started out playing and now that we are back on a roll I'm sure we won't keep our fans waiting three years for the next album."

Randolph co-produced the 12-track album and co-wrote 9 of the 12 songs. Randolph has reconnected with songwriting partners such as Drew Ramsey and Shannon Sanders, with whom he composed such Family Band hits as "Ain't Nothing Nothing Wrong With That" as well as Grammy Award winner Tommy Sims, perhaps best known for "Change The World". Any one familiar with Randolph's high energy live performances are familiar with his love for reinterpreting classic songs Family Band style. Lickety Split honors that tradition with enthusiastic interpretations of The Ohio Players' dance-groove "Love Rollercoaster" and The Rascals' (and Olympics') "Good Lovin'." Randolph recorded the album with his longtime bandmates and actual family members, The Family Band, including Marcus Randolph (drums), Danyel Morgan (bass, vocals), Brett Haas (guitar, keys) and Lenesha Randolph (vocals) along with special guests Trombone Shorty and Carlos Santana. The album was engineered by Eddie Kramer [Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin] and mixed by Jim Scott [Tedeschi Trucks].

The new album kicks off with the vigorous anthem "Amped Up" capturing the high-energy excitement that is so identified with Randolph's legendary stage performances. That celebration of creative renewal continues with "Born Again." "It's about finding the joy again," says Randolph. "At first it was more of a love song, about the sense you get when you find the right person. Then, as we were recording this new music with a whole new sense of direction and feeling free again it all came together. It's not a religious thing, it's just new energy-which is really the old energy that I had at the beginning of my career."

Randolph also notes that the title track of Lickety Split is one of his favorites. The song features Randolph joined by his sister Lenesha on vocals. "What's great about that one is that it's something we actually played in church, just like that," he says. "There's a section in the service called the 'Jubilee Jam Session Time'.

Robert Randolph & The Family Band first gained national attention with the release of the album Live at the Wetlands in 2002. The concert recording was taped at New York's historical Wetlands Preserve Club before it closed in 2001. The band followed that acclaimed live album with their first studio recording Unclassified, attracting the attention of Eric Clapton. Since then, the band has toured with Clapton, Santana and the Dave Matthews Band and, as a headline act, has developed a large, passionate following built upon legendary performances at such major festivals as Bonnaroo, Crossroads, Hard Rock Calling, Montreux Jazz, Austin City Limits and the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. Later albums, Colorblind and We Walk This Road, enjoyed critical and commercial success led by signature Randolph composed songs such as "Ain't Nothing Wrong With That". Rolling Stone named Robert Randolph one of "The 100 Greatest Guitarists," the only pedal steel player so honored, calling him "one of the most intense live acts in all of jamdom" and citing his solos as "perpetually cresting, lightning-fast explorations."

"Robert Randolph is an American Original," says Don Was, President of Randolph's new label, Blue Note Records. "He has mastered what is, arguably, the most complex instrument in the world and developed a unique voice that is equal parts street-corner church and Bonnaroo. This album finally captures the energy and excitement of his legendary live performances." Fans worldwide have taken notice of this American original, with audiences and critics alike singing the praises of this unique superstar. "I'm the only one who does what I do," sums up Randolph, simply. After years away from the recording studio, Robert Randolph & The Family Band have finally come back with Lickety Split.
