Back With A Bong! (Awaiting Repress)

As angrily socio-political as so much punk rock tended to be, the genre also gave us quite a few bands that preferred goofy madcap humor over social or political commentary -- including the Ramones and the Dickies. Murphy's Law, a band that came out of New York's mid-'80s punk scene, was among the genre's goofiest. The aggressively rockin' Back with a Bong! isn't a record that's heavy on political content -- song titles like Panty Raid, Cavity Creeps and Attack Oof the Killer Beers underscore the fact that wild, irreverent fun is the primarily goal of the Astoria, Queens residents. Profile Records -- which had become one of the largest independent labels thanks to rappers like Run-D.M.C. and Dana Dane -- turned to Murphy's Law in the hope of increasing its visibility in rock. The album wasn't a big seller, although the punkers did command a small following.

    Uncle Anesthesia

    Import

After releasing three albums with Greg Ginn's underground label SST, Screaming Trees broke through in 1991 with Uncle Anesthesia on major label Epic. The band, fronted by Mark Lanegan (who would go on to collaborate solo with band members of Nirvana, Queens Of The Stone Age, Guns 'N Roses and Foo Fighters) is known for its raw psychedelic, whiskey voiced garage rock. This harder edge set the band apart from Seattle grunge contemporaries Alice In Chains and Soundgarden, gaining a loyal fanbase in the process. Uncle Anesthesia is produced by Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave) and metal producer Terry Date, known for his recordings of Pantera, Prong, Overkill and White Zombie.

    Screaming Life/Fopp

From the depths of the Sub Pop archives comes a reissue of
Soundgarden's thunderous opening salvo, Screaming Life, plus bonus
tracks from the Fopp EP and Sub Pop 200 compilation. This reissue
marks the first time these tracks will be available digitally, and their first
appearance on vinyl since the original, late-80s pressings (notwithstanding
a long-gone, late-'90s repress of Screaming Life). All tracks have been
remastered by Seattle studio wizard and producer of the original Screaming
Life and Sub Pop 200 sessions, Jack Endino, who had this to say about
    it:

"Ah, Screaming Life, Soundgarden's debut, and one of the first real
records I made for anyone outside my own band. I already knew
Soundgarden pretty well, since they and Skin Yard had shared the stage
many times in Seattle's tiny club scene circa 1985-1986. Soon after
opening Reciprocal Recording in July 1986, there I was with Soundgarden,
trying to make the most of our eight tracks. Somehow, we found room
for all of Matt Cameron's 'bonus tubs,' Hiro's primordial Fender bass,
and a whopping four tracks to share between Kim Thayil's mad guitar
psychedelia and Chris Cornell's still-expanding voice. 'Nothing To Say'
was the song that made us all look at each other and go, 'uh, holy crap,
    how did we do this?'

Stuff started happening. A&M came calling. SST agreed to put out
their next record. But Soundgarden was not finished with Sub Pop. They
contributed 'Sub Pop Rock City,' about Seattle's then-rising 'grunge'
scene, to the Sub Pop 200 comp; and they threw everyone a curveball
with Steve Fisk-produced Ohio Players and Green River covers on the
    Fopp EP.

The glorious vistas of a major label future awaited them. To quote Kim
from an old interview, 'It was karma, it was dogma, it was dog breath.'"

    Scream Above The Sounds

Twenty years after their debut 'Word Gets Around' and six #1 albums later, Stereophonics are set to release their new album 'Scream Above The Sounds' on Parlophone Records.

Their 10th studio album, 'Scream Above The Sounds' follows 'Keep The Village Alive' which went straight to #1 when it was released in 2015 - their sixth chart-topper after 'Performance and Cocktails' (1999), 'Just Enough Education To Perform' (2001) 'You Gotta Go There To Come Back' (2003), 'Language. Sex. Violence. Other?' (2005) and 'Pull The Pin' (2007).

Stereophonics consists of founding members Kelly Jones (vocals/guitar) and Richard Jones (bass) along with Adam Zindani (guitar) and Jamie Morrison (drums). Long-term keyboardist Tony Kirkham joins the band for live shows.

Kelly said of the songwriting process that he began to write "big, anthemic songs that are rallying against those anxious feelings that have flooded through cities. Every song offers a sense of release," he says. "Even when there's nostalgia, fear or anxiety, they're still all offering hope and room to manoeuvre."

The first single 'All In One Night' represents the band's affection for the melancholy. Set to a consistent mid-paced rhythm which evokes a nocturnal motorway drive, it finds the narrator's life taking a dramatic turn as night brightens to day. Influenced by the Sebastian Schipper film 'Victoria', it's a song that had an unusual genesis - Kelly started it when the band had an unscheduled day's stay in China before he finished it back home in London. Even the atmospheric call of the chorus was fortuitous, being an adaptation of a vocal exercise he was using.

'Scream Above The Sounds' was primarily recorded in the band's HQ in west London with a further session at RAK Studios. Created with the help of regular collaborator Jim Lowe, it's an album in which creative sonic touches add to the band's emphasis on songwriting and melody.

DEATH's legendary 1987 debut Scream Bloody Gore is more than just an untouchable album - upon its release, it was positively genre-creating. Today, the album is viewed unanimously as one of the all-time most important cornerstones of death metal. As the final chapter in Relapse's comprehensive DEATH reissue series, Scream Bloody Gore will now receive the deluxe reissue treatment.

    Scream For Me Sarajevo (Pre-Order)

    Release Date: June 29, 2018*

Sarajevo in 1994 was a city under siege. Mortars and grenades rained down on the city, killing indiscriminately every day. Amongst the madness, would it be possible to persuade a global rock star to come and play a show for local fans? Scream for Me Sarajevo is the soundtrack to the amazing and astonishing documentary film story of the most unlikely of rock concerts, performed by Bruce Dickinson and his band Skunkworks in 1994, in the midst of the Siege of Sarajevo. This is a film about extraordinary people defying the horrors of war, and the musicians who risked their lives to play a show for them.

Featuring footage from the historic gig, the film also meets those that made it to the show and made the show happen; determined to keep living their lives despite the atrocities going on around them. Interviews with the band, crew and security bring home the reality of the situation that was not only dangerous, it was barbaric. "We weren't protected, there was no plan and the bullets were real, but fuck it, we went anyway" said Bruce in his recent best-selling autobiography What Does This Button Do?, "The gig was immense, intense and probably the biggest show in the world at that moment for the audience and for us. That the world didn't really know didn't matter. It changed the way I viewed life, death and other human beings".

From A Whisper To A Scream (Pure Pleasure)

One of Esther Phillips finest '70s releases, From A Whisper To A Scream is the first of seven albums the singer recorded for CTI offshoot Kudu. Arranged and conducted by Pee Wee Ellis, the December 1971 session also involved principal players such as bassist Gordon Edwards, drummer Bernard Purdie, percussionist Airto, guitarists Cornell Dupree and Eric Gale, keyboardist Richard Tee, and saxophonists Hank Crawford and David Liebman. Setting the tone for Phillips' Kudu era, Whisper offers a series of spacious, yet fully arranged ballads of burning heartache, along with a handful of relatively funky numbers that do nothing to compromise her talent, dishing out loads of classy grit. It's a definite point of departure from the likes of Esther Phillips Sings and And I Love Him!, her field of contemporaries closer to Al Green and Aretha Franklin than before. She grabs onto Home Is Where The Hatred Is, Gil Scott-Heron's most harrowing rumination on drug dependency -- which, at that point, wasn't even a year old -- as if it were her very own, and it's all the more poignant given its parallels with her own life. (It's meaning was only compounded by her death in 1984.) Though there is absolutely nothing lacking in the album's more energetic moments, it's still the ballads that shine brightest, like the alternately fragile and explosive From A Whisper To A Scream (Allen Toussaint) and a staggering Baby, I'm for Real (Marvin and Anna Gordy, made popular by the Originals) so vulnerable yet commanding that it really should've closed the album.

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Die Screaming

Something sinister is looming in the mist - a ghastly three-headed apparition, equal parts riffage & rancour and fuelled by a steady diet of garage rock 7-inches played at 33RPM and horror movies watched at 5AM, the primeval force of Satan's Satyrs is returned to the earth to lay waste to everything in its path.

Rising from the primordial ooze of Herndon, Virginia Satan's Satyrs hit the metal underground like a tidal wave of sulphur with their debut proper, 2012's Wild Beyond Belief. This almighty assault, almost entirely the work of chief Satyr Clayton Burgess, was a harrowing blast of fuzz-drenched aggro - a clash of Venom-esque metalpunk squalor and in-the-red garage-rock dementia.

With Jarrett Nettnin soon joining the fray on guitar and Stephen Fairfield on drums, the power-trio were soon invited by Electric Wizard to 2013's Roadburn Festival, which they graced with two scorching sets, one being entirely comprised of cuts by their heinous heroes Blue Cheer. Yet the three-piece, despite being barely into their twenties, weren't about to rest on their laurels. What's more, the result of their onward march into grisly pastures new is the more mature yet no less malicious new opus, 'Die Screaming' which sees it's European release via Bad Omen Records in 2014.

This time around, the band set about expanding their sound, maintaining their trash-obsessed aesthetic whilst sharpening their songcraft to produce an album possessed of both mighty heaviosity and incisive hooks. Bolstered by roaring Hammond and percussive ornamentation that bring still more Hammer Horror atmosphere to the fray, 'Die Screaming' transcends the band's Black Sabbath, Stooges and Black Flag influences to arrive at a relentlessly gory and gung-ho assault on the senses. One minute, this terror-troupe are dishing out the rotten rock n'roll of 'One By One (They Die) and Curse Of The Corpse, which stalk the Earth like the reanimated corpses of Budgie and Blue Oyster Cult records past. The next, on the jaw-dropping title-track, they're throwing Death SS, the Alice Cooper of Sick Things and Scott Reagers-era Saint Vitus into a bubbling cauldron and standing well back. Yet at all times Satan's Satyrs' gonzo attack is authentically red in both tooth and claw.

Rising high above the overkill of self-styled occult rock that lurks in the underground at present. Satan's Satyrs are blazing a trail through a nightmarish world of battered VHS videos, overheated ampstacks and dog-eared vinyl, and are a band fit to set the pulse of any self-respecting trash connoisseur racing. With 'Die Screaming', they're set to carry out the Devil's bidding across the globe with uniquely sordid and salacious style.

Screaming for Vengeance on Numbered Limited Edition LP from Mobile Fidelity Silver Label

Double-Platinum 1982 Blockbuster Remains Judas Priest's Most Commercially Successful LP

Includes Electric Eye, Screaming for Vengeance, You've Got Another Thing Comin'

Dual Magnesium-Burn Guitars, Leather-Tough Percussion, Molten-Hot Melodies Help Form Triangular Equilibrium of Speed, Accessibility, and Attitude

Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's World-Renowned Mastering System and Pressed at RTI

You've got another thing comin'! Distinguished by dual magnesium-burn guitars, leather-tough percussion, molten-hot melodies, and the unmistakable piercing falsetto of operatic vocalist, Screaming for Vengeance became the soundtrack to millions of music lovers' lives in the early 1980s as Judas Priest continued to lay waste to its contemporaries' softer, cheesier hard-rock styles. An effort on which precision-based speed, mainstream accessibility, and resilient attitude meet in triangular equilibrium, the 1982 set remains the British metal legends' top-selling record.

Mastered on Mobile Fidelity's world-renowned mastering system and pressed at RTI, this Silver Series numbered limited edition LP shows off the grand intersection of daring adventure and commercial purpose achieved via ironclad production values and entrenched grooves. The latter particularly benefit from this analog pressing, as the group never overlooks the importance of rhythm and pace even when stoking tempos to engine-combusting levels. Leagues ahead of the sonics gracing its peers' albums from the time, the sense of balance, separation, and realism is on par with that of big-budget rock creations.

Staked by the breakout "You've Got Another Thing Comin'," which burns white-hot with foot-pounding riffs, prize-fighting percussion, and singer Rob Halford's gun-for-hire blare, Screaming for Vengeance clutches hold of the jugular and doesn't let go. A return to the band's gritty, purist roots, the record revisits the themes of darkness, menace, and the unknown firmly established on the pioneering Stained Class and Killing Machine. Along with those albums, and British Steel, Screaming for Vengeance is the template for the catchy albeit uncompromisingly heavy crossover success Metallica, Megadeth, and Anthrax enjoyed years later.

With the one-two opening tandem of the instrumental "The Hellion" and stomping "Electric Eye," overseen by Halford as if he's embodying the persona of a wicked James Bond villain, Priest sounds utterly futuristic and terrifying, the instruments seemingly on a swivel and the sawed-off tones flooding the guitar solos with intimidation. A classic head-out-to-the highway anthem ("Riding on the Wind"), a racing proto-thrash banger ("Screaming for Vengeance"), and a scorching exorcism ("Devil's Child") function as the metal-hued bolts that hold the foundations of this Top 20-charting benchmark in place.

Perhaps more so here than on any other record, Priest spit-shines hooks and collusive six-string harmonic leads to perfection, giving listeners ying-yang doses of pain and pleasure, sweet and bitter. Songs at once invite sing-a-longs and fist-pumping responses. Screaming for Vengeance marked the last time Priest would sound this heavy in the 80s. No wonder it was voted the 12th best metal album of all time in Martin Popoff's definitive book of the same name.

When Primal Scream's EXTERMINATOR - or XTRMNTR - came out in 2000 as the last album on Alan McGee's legendary Creation Records it made quite a stir. McGee must have told The Scream to let the label 'go out with a bang', and boy did they deliver.

EXTERMINATOR is punk flavoured anarchism mixed with a big beat rumpus, a sonic protest against the self-righteous and unchallenging indie-music of the day. Or, as NME put it: 'rarely has anger been so beautifully managed', as they put it on the #2 spot of the best albums of 2000 (only losing out to Radiohead's Kid A).

With EXTERMINATOR The Scream produced war you can dance to, proving themselves ahead of their time.

    NMC17

The reissue is dedicated to the influential photographer Naomi Petersen who was instrumental in ensuring that the original No More Censorship master tapes survived. As a long-time friend of the band, Naomi has captured many memorable images of an era, including countless SST bands and SCREAM. Years after their first encounter, Naomi found the original tapes gathering dust, and passed them onto Pete Stahl before they perished. SCREAM saw this as a second chance to put the record out. The way they always wanted. Subsequently, Southern Lord had the tapes baked and prepped for a remix at Dave Grohl's 606 Studio. There is another side to the story of this album of course, and deep-rooted reasons for bringing it to life again. As Pete Stahl explains, "This record was written and recorded during Reagan's presidency. US foreign policy was being disruptive in Central and Latin America, Iran-Contra.

This new mix sounds vital and intense; the entire packaging, layout, and design is completely different from the original, with the inclusion of photos, lyrics, poetry, and other personal writings from the band during that era, collected in an extensive booklet.

The CD and vinyl covers are each unique, but both were created in the spirit of one of Weiwei's own exhibits, and our idea, limiting or censoring information. Leaving only an acronym for the original title and a number for the year we did the remix (NMC17).

    Vanishing Point

Vanishing Point is the fifth album from Primal Sream, originally released in 1997 and named after and inspired by the 1971 Richard C. Sarafian cult film of the same title. The songs were meant to be an alternative soundtrack to that movie and as lead singer Bobby Gillespie explained, the music in the film is hippy music and it's always been a favourite of the band, we love the air of paranoia and speed-freak righteousness: pure underground cinema, rammed with claustrophobia.

Vanishing Point was Primal Scream's first album to feature bass player Gary 'Mani' Mounfield (formerly of The Stone Roses) while guests include Augustus Pablo, Glen Matlock and The Memphis Horns. The band draws inspiration from dub and Can, ambient music, Motörhead and The Stooges here to create a dark mix of drum and bass, dance, and rock close to their magnum opus Screamadelica. The album fully displays how successfully an act can reinvent itself yet stay true to what it is best at.

    Murphy's Law (Awaiting Repress)

Founded in Astoria, Queens in 1983 Murphy's Law are huge part of the New York
and American hardcore legacy. Their albums, such as the self entitled, "Murphy's
Law" and the 1989 follow up "Back With A Bong" helped creating the sound of
New York Hardcore back then, as well as what it stands for today. In 2008 their
legacy even lead to the use of the song "A Day In A Life" (from the band's debut) in
the Liberty City Hardcore radio station on the Rockstar video game "Grand Theft
Auto IV". Murphy's Law never abandoned the Hardcore scene or their fans. During
the extensive career Jimmy Gestapo stayed true his scene earning him & the band
the name of one of NYHC's all time favorites.

The eponymous Murphy's Law debut is perhaps one of the most rocking New York punk releases to appear in the '80s. The manic tempos, masochistic vocals, and other hardcore signatures are toned down here to better suit the group's party message. Apolitical when compared to hard-line contemporaries like Cro-Mags and Agnostic Front, Murphy's Law shoots for an inebriated slice-of-life essence more aligned with Boston's Gang Green. The right-wing and skinhead references didn't exactly sit well with some '80s punk observers who mistakenly labeled the band as fascist. But even a casual study of California Pipeline and Ilsa reveals an allegiance contrary to the skinhead stereotype. Highlights include the Ace Frehley-inspired guitar work on Skinhead Rebel as well as the rockabilly Wahoo Day groove. A must-have for fans of the group and a strong recommendation for any '80s punk scholar, Murphy's Law is simply a fun ride.
