    44/876

Sting & Shaggy will release their new collaborative, island-inspired album, entitled 44/876, via Island Records.

Sting, wove Jamaican rhythms into his early work with The Police as well as his solo repertoire. While Shaggy, born and raised in Kingston, Jamaica and cutting his musical teeth in the dance hall clubs of Brooklyn and Manhattan. The two initially joined creative forces to record "Don't Make Me Wait" as a tribute to the Caribbean sounds that influenced them both - and ended up recording an entire album full of joy, melody and uplifting music.

44/876 was recorded in Jamaica and New York with Sting & Shaggy being joined by various musicians and writers including the legendary Robbie Shakespeare of Sly and Robbie, dancehall sensation Aidonia, Morgan Heritage, Branford Marsalis, Agent Sasco and Sting's longtime guitarist, Dominic Miller as well as writers Taranchyla, Dwayne "iLL Wayno" Shippy, Shane Hoosong, Machine Gun Funk and Patexx. The sessions were produced in part by Sting International ("Oh, Carolina," "Boombastic" and "It Wasn't Me,") and by Martin Kierszenbaum who has previously written/produced songs for Sting, Madonna and Lady Gaga. Sting International, Robert "Hitmixer" Orton, Sting International and Tony Lake mixed 44/876.

    Over-Nite Sensation

Mastered from the Original Analog Master Tapes at Bernie Grundman Mastering by Chris Bellman

Love it or hate it, Over-Nite Sensation was a watershed album for Frank Zappa, the point where his post-'60s aesthetic was truly established; it became his second gold album, and most of these songs became staples of his live shows for years to come. Whereas the Flo and Eddie years were dominated by rambling, off-color comedy routines, Over-Nite Sensation tightened up the song structures and tucked sexual and social humor into melodic, technically accomplished heavy guitar rock with jazzy chord changes and funky rhythms; meanwhile, Zappa's growling new post-accident voice takes over the storytelling. While the music is some of Zappa's most accessible, the apparent callousness and/or stunning sexual explicitness of Camarillo Brillo, Dirty Love, and especially Dinah-Moe Humm leave him on shaky aesthetic ground.

Zappa often protested that the charges of misogyny leveled at such material missed out on the implicit satire of male stupidity, and also confirmed intellectuals' self-conscious reticence about indulging in dumb fun; however, the glee in his voice as he spins his adolescent fantasies can undermine his point. Indeed, that enjoyment, also evident in the silly wordplay, suggests that Zappa is throwing his juvenile crassness in the face of critical expectation, asserting his right to follow his muse even if it leads him into blatant stupidity (ironic or otherwise). One can read this motif into the absurd shaggy-dog story of a dental floss rancher in Montana, the album's indisputable highlight, which features amazing, uncredited vocal backing from Tina Turner and the Ikettes. As with much of Zappa's best '70s and '80s material, Over-Nite Sensation could be perceived as ideologically problematic (if you haven't got the constitution for FZ's humor), but musically, it's terrific. -Steve Huey

    Positively 4th Avenue

The ten tracks on Sun Wizard's debut album, Positively 4th Avenue brim with catchy sing-a-long choruses. The first single, World's Got a Handle kicks off the album with a Fleetwood Mac-style gallop, while the crunchy guitar tone and rasping vocals give it a dose of bar rock grit. The harmonica-assisted Middle of My Heart is similarly immediate, evoking Tom Petty with its sunny chord progression. Elsewhere on the album, the band flirts with folksy acoustic blues and shaggy southern rock guitar jams.

    DMZ

Originally released in 1978 on Sire Records, DMZ's first and only LP never really fit into the punk/new-wave mold that was forced upon it. These 5 shaggy haired dudes from Boston were more interested in the Sonics than the Sex Pistols and their goal, as stated by frontman Jeff Mono Man Conolly was fusing the sound of the Chocolate Watchband and The Stooges.

Produced by Flo & Eddie, of The Turtles' fame, this album was much maligned at the time but has come to be accepted as a classic record that helped jump start the ongoing garage-rock revival that began in the '80s. Reissued on 180 gram vinyl and available in the LP format for the first time since its initial release.

    The Big Lebowski Soundtrack

The Coen Brothers' 1998 film noir spoof, The Big Lebowski, with Jeff Bridges' shaggy title character, "The Dude," has gained a fervent following, complete with annual conventions, where phrases like "The Dude will abide" have entered the vernacular. With the Coens' typical care and love of music they demonstrated throughout their diverse career, The Big Lebowski soundtrack has become just as much of a cult classic as the film itself. Album highlights include songs accompanying a trio of bowling scenes: Bob Dylan's New Morning track, "The Man In Me" over the title credits, the Busby Berkeleyinfluenced psychedelia of Kenny Rogers and the First Edition's "Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition is In") and the Gypsy Kings' redefining take on the Eagles' "Hotel California," as John Turturro licks his bowling ball. The classic album will now be made available for the first time on vinyl through Universal Music Enterprises.

    Fifth Dimension (MONO)

By 1966, the Byrds had powered up like a mammoth Atlas rocket boosting Astronauts into orbit around the Earth, with their third album, Fifth Dimension. This amped-up new soundimmediately dubbed raga-rock due to the Byrds newfound fascination with the music of Ravi Shankar and John Coltraneis best exemplified by Eight Miles High, yet another national pop smash, and 5D (Fifth Dimension), both swirling, multi-hued masses of sonic energy on an interplanetary scale. 5D is tethered to a generation newly interested in LSD mind-trips, while Eight Miles High details the Byrds' first transcontinental flight to the United Kingdom. Folk-rock, always a Byrds staple, appears in the luscious form of Wild Mountain Tyme and John Riley. Hey Joe, soon to become a standard of shaggy-haired garage rock nation, is a standout, while Mr. Spaceman, a brilliant, humorous blend of deep space and country-rock also scaled the national charts.

Unavailable for over 40 years, we're proud to present the first ever reissue of this monumental recording in its original, highly-sought-after mono incarnation, cut directly from the original Columbia Recordings analog mono masters, with perfect artwork restoration and meticulously faithful mastering.
