    Suck My Shirt

Suck My Shirt is the fourth full-length for The Coathangers.

"It's a balance between overthinking and just going for it," guitarist
Crook Kid (Julia Kugel) says of their songwriting strategy. It's a
duality immediately apparent with the album opener "Follow Me."
It's a classic Coathangers tune with Stephanie Luke's raspy vocals
belted out over their signature ragged garage-rock. But the chorus
opens into one of the most accessible hooks in the band's canon,
just before segueing into the next verse with a squall of violent
dissonant guitar. From there the band launches into "Shut Up," a
title that harkens back to the brash sass of their rst record. The
song still has its spikey guitar riffs and shouted chorus, but here The
Coathangers sound less like a jubilant version of Huggy Bear and
more like the art-pop of late-era Minutemen.

Dedicated Coathangers fans will recognize the re-worked versions of "Merry
Go Round," "Smother," "Adderall," and "Derek's Song" from their
run of limited edition split 7s, and hearing them in the context of
the album shows that these tracks weren't merely isolated examples
of the band's more sophisticated side, but were actually
demonstrative of the group's increasing capacity for nestling solid
melodic hooks and rock heft into their repertoire. By the time the
band wraps up the album with the humble pop perfection of
"Drive," it's hard to believe this was the band that garnered their
reputation off of raucous bombasts like "Don't Touch My Shit."

Washington DC stalwarts Deleted Scenes released their debut album Birdseed Shirt to Pitchfork's rave reviews, calling it ferocious, brave, and a well-balanced demonstration of both thoughtful existentialism and strange, drowsy downers (Pitchfork, 8.0). Deleted Scenes' sophomore album Young People's Church of the Air, which will be released by Park The Van Records this summer, pushes the band's formidable rhythm section further, exploring the possibility of hope.

Night Beds, the musical project of 26-year-old Colorado Springs native Winston Yellen, received much acclaim for his 2013 debut album, Country Sleep, scoring plaudits for its tortured take on alt country and Yellen's soaring vocals. But after finishing that album and before Country Sleep was even released, Yellen began experimenting with the kind of melancholic, neon-tinged R&B that makes up the mesmerising Ivywild. The thread that weaves through all of Yellen's music and holds it together is his unmistakable voice - plaintive, yearning, soulful, heartbreaking. Whether it's ascending over the luscious epic-electronics of Tide Teeth or aching alone on Country Sleep's opener Faithful Heights, Yellen's voice has a unique beauty matched by few of his contemporaries. The second Night Beds album draws on Yellen's original love of Bill Evans through to J Dilla and is made up of what Yellen calls sad sex jams and was inspired by a long-term love and a break-up which looms large throughout the albums veiled lyrics. Its genesis can be found in the stoned night in Nashville when Yellen first heard Yeezus. Lying on the floor, Yellen blared the album at top volume. Ivywild is a truly collaborative effort with a makeshift team of 25 musicians, notably Abe, Yellen's younger brother and closest friend - his credit on the album comes above Winston's own, so much value does he place upon the work Abe put in. Additional vocals come from Heather Hibbard, a singer from Maine who features on over half of the 16 track album, and was contacted by the gregarious Yellen through YouTube, after he found a video of her covering one of his songs. She came out to the studio the very next day. Finessing the poignant assortment of songs was a sometimes painful task, but dedicated to the core. I felt at some points we were losing our minds, he says. Initial versions of Me Liquor and God band On High: were 17 and 33 minutes respectively while Finished took four months to record. His editing process though was simple: If it makes you cry, keep it in. Field recordings also flood the record, offering it a deep textural grain. It is a luxury record, but it has a worn shirt feel, explains Yellen. It's lived in. It's like a quilt - but it took forever, cutting up all the vocals and letting it breathe.

Every March 17 on St. Patrick's Day, New York City merely paints a green line down the center of its Fifth Avenue parade route-a stunt easily pulled off by any city-but only Chicago dyes an entire river the perfect shade of emerald green to honor Irish culture. Why green? Thanks to Ireland's lush vegetation, the island is often lovingly referred to as the Emerald Isle. To the Irish, a green display of pride is not to be taken lightly. In the United States, even those of non-Irish descent know to wear green clothing on St. Patrick's Day, or else be playfully pinched by an Irish friend or colleague! But it's one thing to don a green shirt or tie, another thing altogether to transform a 156-mile long river. Chicago's Stephen M. Bailey, the man who orchestrated the transformation, boasted that he'd turn the River Chicago into the River Shannon (Ireland's longest) for a day, and, eventually, he did.

There was no specific recipe for successfully dyeing a river. A bit of trial and error was required. Initially, over 100 pounds of dye was used, and the river stayed green for a week! In the second year, 50 pounds of dye kept the river green for three full days. In the third year, it was found that using 25 pounds of dye would turn the river green for a single day. Two years later, environmental concerns led to the formation of a new vegetable-based dye that produces a perfect sea of green and lasts for four or five hours-40 pounds of the stuff does the trick. Following suit across the nation, major canals, minor creeks, city blocks, drinking fountains, and even the Presidential Fountain at the White House are dyed green for St. Patrick's Day-all thanks to the wonderful example set in Chicago.

SOLID LONG-GRAIN COPPER (LGC) CONDUCTORS: Solid conductors eliminate strand-interaction distortion. Chicago's solid Long-Grain Copper allows a smoother and clearer sound than cables using regular OFHC (Oxygen-Free High-Conductivity) copper. OFHC is a general metal industry specification regarding "loss" without any concern for distortion. LGC has fewer oxides within the conducting material, less impurities, less grain boundaries, and definitively better performance.

NITROGEN-INJECTED HARD-CELL FOAM INSULATION: Nitrogen-Injected Hard-Cell Foam insulation is used exclusively in most of AudioQuest's video and digital audio cables. Similar to Foamed-PE, it is nitrogen-injected to create air pockets. 'Hard' foam is used because the stiffness of the material allows the conductors in the cable to maintain the same relationship with each other along the full length of the cable, thus ensuring that the characteristic impedance of the cable is consistent.

METAL-LAYER NOISE-DISSIPATION SYSTEM (NDS): 100% shield coverage is easy. Preventing captured RF Interference from modulating the equipment's ground reference requires AQ's Noise-Dissipation System. Noise-Dissipation System prevents a significant amount of RFI from reaching the equipment's ground plane.

DOUBLE-BALANCED GEOMETRY: Two ideal audio conductors separate from the cable's shield. Not only does this prevent the shield from being used as an inferior audio path, but it further optimizes sound quality by only grounding the shield at one end, reducing system ground-plane modulation.

COLD-WELDED GOLD-PLATED PLUGS: This plug design allows for a connection devoid of solder, which is a common source of distortion. Because the ground shells are stamped instead of machined, the metal can be chosen for low distortion instead of machinability.

Reissue Of The Long Out Of Print Legendary No Mercy 1987 Release

Picture Disc LP Limited To 750 Copies

Line Up Features Mike Muir, Mike Clark, Ric Clayton, & Sal Troy

The band started in 1982 and featured lead vocalist Keven Guercio, guitarist Mike Clark, bassist Ken Blakley later replaced by Ric Rancid Clayton (the
artist who designed the Suicidal Tendencies logo as well as the shirts on S.T.'s first album) and drummer Sal Troy. Guercio recorded a few demos and
the tracks on the Welcome to Venice (1985) compilation before leaving and moving to Jackson Hole, WY and was replaced by Suicidal Tendencies
vocalist Mike Muir. Muir signed them to his independent label Suicidal Records.

In 1987 No Mercy released their first and only album Widespread Bloodshed Love Runs Red, and were about to record their second album with many
new songs already written but Clayton and Troy quit. Instead of recruiting new members, Muir decided to merge the two bands by having Clark join
    Suicidal Tendencies.

Clark took over much of the songwriting duties for Suicidal, shifting its style more to a melodic thrash metal sound similar to No Mercy's and what would
have been No Mercy's second album became Suicidal Tendencies' third album, How Will I Laugh Tomorrow When I Can't Even Smile Today.

FRKWYS Vol. 11 - Contos De Lisboa

For the the eleventh volume of FRKWYS, an unrestricted series pairing contemporary
artists with their influential predecessors, gifted guitar squire Steve Gunn meets roving,
radiating legend Mike Cooper in Lisbon, Portugal.

Sharing their vision over lengthy living room guitar sessions and evenings of cold wine
in Fado taverns, Gunn and Cooper created Cantos de Lisboa, an album with variable
vernacular shades and musical forms from Portugal's antiquity.

Cantos means "corner" in Portuguese, as well as "chant" or "song" (this latter meaning
evolved from the Latin antecedent referring to stanzas of verse in poetry). For two artists
whose roots lie in the country blues and its subverted offshoots, the proverbial "corner"
is actually home, the undisturbed spot where music can flourish.

A tranquil interlude for these two travellers to create off-guard improvisations in their
shared style of deconstructed guitar music, Cantos de Lisboa is a curious detail in the
periphery of their snapshot of Portugal.

In his fifty-year-plus career, Cooper's global ventures have transported his music to
exotic locales parallel to Lisbon. 2004's Rayon Hula musically translated the patterned
flora of aloha shirts (Cooper's signature garment) as looped samples of famed Hawaiian
vibraphone player Arthur Lyman for an avant vivified form of exotica.

Rayon Hula signaled Cooper's vital re-emergence as a dexterous alchemist of slide
guitar. Cooper's discography is colored with similar instances of casually conceptual,
improvisatory guitar music, including his 1970 masterpiece Trout Steel (an album Gunn
recalls in Cantos de Lisboa's liner notes as shaping his own ambitions and music).
For his part, Gunn's path to Portugal was compelled by his kinship to Cooper and
his ilk's experimentation with guitar-picked country blues and 70s British folk. Gunn's
extracurricular immersion in free jazz and psychedelia, no doubt influenced by his
Philadelphia upbringing and surroundings, ensures his playing never grits or grids and
    always soars to ecstatic heights.

These musical emblems were gracefully memorialized on Gunn's celebrated Time
Off (Paradise of Bachelors, 2013) and across a substantial catalog of solo, duo and
ensemble work that resembles that of a veteran player more than a young guitar
    slinger.

On Cantos de Lisboa, Gunn and Cooper take emotive cues from Fado, the regional
music of Portugal, which is in close plaintive spirit to the blues. A melancholy seeps into
the music, while steering a wide berth from any bummer notes or pastiche. Cooper's
sparse effects toolkit and stately, gliding cadences are nimbly employed, while Gunn's
ashen voice and steady strum lend an intensely organic feel to the album's improvisatory
    portraits.

The latter half of Cantos de Lisboa echoes the "saudade" theme as referenced in
the blissful opening track, Cooper's howl spiriting the Portuguese word that translates
roughly into "loss" or "longing." Saudade is said to be the core feature of Fado music. In
Cantos de Lisboa, Saudade becomes a spirit inhabiting the album's corners, but never
    disrupting the musicians' collaborative evocations.

In the hands of these two limitless guitarists, Cantos de Lisboa convenes in an abstract,
almost field recorded take on lap-steel and American Primitive guitar styles. For the
brief idyll, Gunn and Cooper's collaboration is remarkably rich, marking their passage
through Portugal not just as a time to revel in an ancient city, but a time for focused
    collaboration and creative consonance.

    Overjoyed

Announcing Overjoyed, the first album in 13 years from legendary punk band Half Japanese. One of the most influential bands of all time, Jad Fair and Half Japanese spearheaded the DIY and Lo-Fi movements, influencing countless bands such as Sonic Youth, Neutral Milk Hotel, Daniel Johnston, and perhaps most notably, Kurt Cobain (who ranked Half Japanese amongst his top 50 favorites, had them open the In Utero tour, and was wearing their t-shirt when he died). Without exaggeration, Half Japanese is one of the most important bands in the history of music. Overjoyed was recorded and produced by John Dieterich of Deerhoof, and ranks amongst the best albums of the band's catalog.

    Feed Me Violence

Let down your hair and rip off your shirt, Speed Metal is back! With lustful joy, the Belgians of EVIL INVADERS wallow in those mad days of early Metallica and Slayer, when Thrash Metal was marked with speed and metal's madness was bigger than the Beatlemania. Their second monstrosity of an album is called Feed The Violence and delivers true Thrash Metal in its rawest strength: wasted and wild, lightning-swift and erratic! Full-throated Heavy Metal-screams that would make Rob Halford proud shoot over electrifying whirlwinds of solo guitars. Prepare yourself for massive divebombs and a grim beating snare drum! A must-have for every guitar-freak that hails Dimebag Darrell and Randy Rhoads.

    Complete Discography (Awaiting Repress)

In the mid-to-late 1980s, Moss Icon pioneered a progressive, highly emotive sound that stood in stark contrast to just about everything even remotely considered punk-rock at the time. In retrospect, they more resembled an inspired marriage of the bleak post-punk leanings of Joy Division with the raucous riffage of the Wipers, albeit considerably less accessible thanks to Moss Icon's more sinister tone, Tonie Joy's exploratory arrangements, and frontman Jonathan Vance's almost stream-of-conscious sociopolitical rampages.

In the decades since Moss Icon's disbandment, bootlegged t-shirts and patches have been easier to come by than actual recordings, and the Internet is filled with misconceptions and misinformation, incidentally lending an enigmatic, almost mythical status to the band. Rather than attempt to pull back the curtain, this collection, compiling the group's entire official catalog, serves to permanently document the very important contributions of one very important group from a very formative era of underground music. 19-song, 3LP set with download coupon from Temporary Residence.

    The Seventh One

Released in 1988, Toto's The Seventh One (referring to the seventh album of this immensely popular Soft Rock band) featured some very recognizable songs that have become evergreen radio classics. First of all, the album kicks off with "Pamela", a girl song that matches their previous success of IV's hit single "Rosanna". And where would the world be without the eighties anthem "Stop Loving You"? Also the other songs on this superb album are gold in their own right. Listen to a song like "Stay Away" and imagine yourself being thrown back to the late eighties, sporting a striped T-shirt, denim jacket and Air Jordans while on your way to Back To The Future part II. Toto bears an instantaneously recognizable stamp of the '80s, but because of the high quality songwriting, their music is absolutely timeless and here to stay.

    Songs From Stamford Hill

Springsteen, Dylan and Americana fans will find nothing unauthentic about James Maddock's brand of singer-songwriter music from Leicester, England which goes by the brand name, Wood. The verse to the opener Stay You, is Boss-ified, while Whole Lot To Think About is a country-Neil Young moment (Maddock must've heard Only Love Can Break Your Heart a time or two).

With his influences on the sleeve of his peasant shirt, Maddock's dreamy, gentle songs sound familiar-it's impossible not to imagine his musings as outtakes from the Jackson Browne/Eagles songbooks. And that's the problem: Wood's best songs (Straight Line has a Fleetwood Mac/Landslide-feel; Knock on the Head could be an inverted Going to California ) sound like retreads of others'-and those are only the first four! Ultimately, Maddock will have to invent something he can claim as his own, but for now he's picked a primo crop to emulate.

    The Best of 2 Tone

In 1979, Jerry Dammers from The Specials launched the cult music label 2 Tone Records, with the independent label
Chrysalis. 2 Tone was most famous for releasing ska and reggae-influenced music with a punk rock and pop music
overtone. Artwork was central to 2 Tone Records. Designer Horace Panter and graphic designer John Teflon Sims
Dammers created the Walt Jabsco logo of a man in a black suit, white shirt, black tie, pork pie hat, white socks and
    black loafers.

The Best of 2 Tone is a compilation of the best tracks from the label's history from The Specials debut 'Gangsters',
Madness' 'The Prince', The Beat's classic cover of Smokey Robinson's 'Tears of a Clown', The Selecter's 'On My Radio'

    Living In America

Available On Vinyl For The First Time!

Living In America is the debut album by Swedish New Wave band The Sounds, released in 2002.

The Sounds embrace epic bands like Blondie, The Cars, Missing Persons and those obscure Garage Rock groups that make up the legendary Nuggets series. Their appearance even a band like Blondie, and they both look and play the part, with black T-shirts, faded jeans, and snappy three-minute songs with trebly keyboard vamps and tightly wound guitar riffs.

The album plays like a collection of A-sides, and indeed it spawned five singles; the second single, Living in America, reached #3 on the Swedish single charts and is featured in the 2010 video game, Rock Band 3. The International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) awarded the album a Platinum certification in 2003.

    Sinner

Produced by Country legend Buddy Cannon (George Strait, Merle Haggard, George Jones), and recorded over 16 intense hours at Nashville's Blackbird Studios, SINNER captures Aaron Lewis' mindset, a laid back soundtrack that is reminiscent of the genre's most honest and musically adventurous artists.

"I'd like to think that SINNER is a newer take on classic, traditional Outlaw Country, Waylon and Merle and Willie, and Hank Jr. and Johnny Cash and all that stuff," says Lewis. "That was the music I heard a kid, and that's the Country music that permeated my soul and stuck with me my whole life."

While SINNER may surprise those unaware of Lewis' lyrical depth and vocal authority, hard-core fans of his concerts (which he describes as "a very healthy mix of cowboy hats, baseball caps, tattoos and black shirts") will rejoice in having definitive copies of songs they've been hearing live and on the Internet, some for a couple of years.

    Frankie Say Relax
Those three words in black letters on white oversized T-shirts persist as a main part of the imagery of the eighties. But even if you take away all the Malcolm McLaren-styled-marketing, Welcome To The Pleasuredome still stands out as one of the seminal records of the decade.

Produced by Trevor Horn (Art of Noise, The Buggles and briefly YES), it should. The sometimes over-the-top songs are interspersed with snippets of a Ronald Reagan impersonator and bombastic orchestral compositions. Put their most famous song 'Relax' in the middle of this and the song that created so much controversy when it was first released becomes a model of restraint. The irresistibly pounding yet simple bass line makes it as much a floor-filler today as it was in 1984.
The Orwellian 'Two Tribes', released at the height of the Cold War, still seems strangely poignant. 'The Power Of Love', the hyper-ballad that topped the British charts for a number of weeks, is still deliciously cheeky.

The re-mastering of this album will make your head spin and is the first that does the Trevor Horn production justice. As this is the first re-issue of the album on vinyl in 25 years, it's a damn good thing Music On Vinyl is releasing it on 180 grams audiophile vinyl!

    Music Night

180 Gram Audiophile Vinyl Cut from the Original Analogue EMI Master Tapes at Abbey Road Studios!

When legendary record producer John Culshaw left Decca in 1967 to become Head of Music at BBC Television, he inaugurated and supervised several series of Andre Previn's Music Night, in which Previn would talk informally direct to camera and then turn and conduct the London Symphony Orchestra, whose members were dressed not in evening clothes but in casual sweaters or shirts. The programme attracted unprecedented viewing figures for classical music in the early and mid 1970s in the U.K.

Taking advantage of the television programme's success, EMI recorded Previn and the LSO at the Kingsway Hall, London on 15 December 1974 and 19 & 20 May 1975 in a programme of popular music typical of the series. These recordings were produced and engineered by Christopher Bishop and Christopher Parker respectively.

Cut at Abbey Road Studios from the original stereo analogue master tapes with the Neumann VMS80 lathe fed an analogue pre-cut signal from a specially adapted Studer A80 tape deck with additional playback head. Pressed on 180g vinyl to audiophile standards.

    70's Rock Must Die

Remember the 70's? C'mon, of course you do. The Bee Gees, John Travolta, and Ford Pintos exploding on rear impact? Well, LARD hasn't forgotten. And they are dying to share those memories on the title track of their new EP, 70's Rock Must Die. 70's Rock Must Die is an epic screaming for a music video. It's a trip down Melrose with long hair and leather- Jello, Al, and Paul flipping the bird as they drive. And, yes, that actually IS Jello singing.

As you know, we're so into this little ditty at ATR that we have purchased a 1979 FORD Pinto that will be auctioned off on eBay the day of release - February 7th, 2000. If you like this, there is plenty of merchandise to go along with it: iron-on t-shirt transfers, buttons, posters, y ou name it

As you may have surmised, the track 70's Rock Must Die is a bit of a musical departure for LARD. But don't fret, the rest of the EP harkens back to the LARD that we all know and love. Here are 2 new gems boasting crushing guitars, freakish noises and Jello's wailing vocals - the pulverizing sounds that have come to characterize LARD.

This is the first LARD release in over 2 1/2 years. In fact, these tracks didn't make it onto their last album, and we couldn't keep them on the shelves waiting for the next.

    Armed Forces

    180 Gram Vinyl

Re-mastered from the original master tapes, this classic Elvis Costello album is now on 180 gram vinyl. Armed
Forces features the original U.S. cover and includes a 7" EP of "Live at Hollywood High." This album hit #10 on the Billboard Top 100 and highlights include "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace Love And Understanding?," "Oliver's Army" and "Accidents Will Happen."

Largely written on tour in hotel rooms and on the bus, Elvis Costellos Armed Forces takes personal politics to a new level. A supremely melodic and hook-laden record, the 1979 set is a showcase of scintillating keyboard lines, sharp guitar work, and the most cohesive arrangements of Costello and the Attractions career. In every way, this is a pop masterpiece, defined by hits such as Accidents Will Happen, Olivers Army, and the anthemic Whats So Funny Bout Peace Love and Understanding? You need this record.

While less musically intense than the preceding This Years Model, Armed Forces doesnt let up in the lyric department. Costellos narratives are loaded with paranoia, irony, bitterness, and scathing humor. Originally titled Emotional Fascism, the singers third consecutive masterpiece is inspired by billboard sign slogans, insular observations, and social behavior that Costello found applicable to his own situation. Olivers Army, Green Shirt, and Senior Service address systemic governmental control. Big Boys, Two Little Hitlers, and Accidents Will Happen also concern control and betrayalbut that of the interpersonal nature.
