    A musical legacy that began in Hawthorne, California and went on to conquer the world. Analogue Productions presents the ultimate pressings of 14 essential Beach Boys albums! Mastered by Kevin Gray, most from the original master tapes, and plated and pressed by Quality Record Pressings, the finest LP pressing facility in the world, these are awesome recordings to experience. And the look of each album befits its sonic superiority! Presented in old school Stoughton tip-on jackets, these time honored favorites shine brighter than the originals!


    The first Shut Down was a hugely successful Capitol Records Various Artists compilation LP that had included a pair of Beach Boys tracks. Whereas their previous album Little Deuce Coupe had been a full-on car themed concept album, the Beach Boys' Shut Down Volume 2 was pretty much evenly split between songs with car themes and various high school and summertime-themed tunes. The album sought to further the Beach Boys beyond its ironic sea-and-sun fetish (none but Dennis Wilson ever surfed) into the burgeoning hot-rod subculture. ... the high points remain nothing short of spectacular, including the Mike Love-propelled 'Fun, Fun, Fun,' Wilson's knowing nod to Phil Spector, 'Don't Worry Baby,' and the (hit) 'The Warmth of the Sun.' - Amazon.com


    Apart from Surfin' Safari, which was mono only, the Beach Boys did turn in stereo masters on all of their early albums up until 1965. The Beach Boys Today! was the first LP for which they only delivered a mono master.


    The stereo editions of Surfin' USA, Surfer Girl, Little Deuce Coupe, Shut Down Vol. 2, All Summer Long, Beach Boys Christmas Album and Beach Boys Concert were all mixed in stereo by their own preferred engineer, Chuck Britz, ostensibly under the group's supervision.


    Brian may or may not have been present for those mixing sessions - evidence suggests that he trusted Chuck's skills enough to let him prepare those mixes on his own - but the group held onto their multitrack tapes and delivered stereo masters to Capitol, rather than allowing Capitol to prepare their own stereo versions. Later, when Brian was only delivering mono masters, Capitol would prepare the Duophonic pseudo stereo editions for the stereo market, says Alan Boyd, producer and Beach Boys' archivist.


    All of the newer stereo mixes on these remastered albums (The Beach Boys Today!, Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!), The Beach Boys' Party, Pet Sounds and Smiley Smile) were all done by Mark Linett on behalf of the Beach Boys.

    To meet the standards of Analogue Productions, our Beach Boys album reissues had a mission to achieve: Present the band's music the way that Brian Wilson - famed co-founder, songwriter and arranger - intended. Mono mixes created under Wilson's supervision were how the surf rockin' California crew rose to fame! And we've got 'em!


    For the early part of the Beach Boys career, all of their singles were mixed and mastered and released only in the mono format - they didn't release a single in stereo until 1968.     SUNNYLAND is the Mayday Parade's 6th studio album and first with Rise Records.


    The Tallahassee, Florida-based quintet (rounded out by bassist/vocalist Jeremy Lenzo, guitarist Brooks Betts and drummer/vocalist Jake Bundrick) recorded this follow-up to 2015's Black Lines with longtime producers Zack Odom and Kenneth Mount, and for the first time, also teamed with Grammy-nominated producer John Feldmann (blink-182, Panic! At the Disco) and Howard Benson (Of Mice & Men, My Chemical Romance). The result is an album built on impassioned vocals, sing-along choruses, and deeply heartfelt lyrics.


    The album's title comes from an abandoned hospital where the band members hung out as teenagers. "The hospital shut down sometime in the mid-'80s but then it just stayed there for decades," says Sanders. "It was a super-creepy place-it was overgrown with vines, and still had some of the hospital beds and IV stands-but we have all these good memories of hanging out there when we were younger."

    Galactic was formed eighteen years ago in New Orleans; the band cut their teeth playing the biggest party in America, Mardi Gras, where the entire city shuts down completely to celebrate. Carnivale Electricos is the sound of that party, and much more. Its a carnival record that evokes the primal, electric atmosphere of a whole city vibrating together to one beat, in a seismic wave that runs from New Orleans down through the Caribbean to the southern hemisphere and the mighty mega carnivals of Brazil.


    To make Carnivale Electricos, the members of Galactic drew on the skills, stamina, and funk they deploy in the all night party of their annual Lundi Gras show that goes till sunrise and leads sleeplessly into Mardi Gras day. Armed with a slew of carnival ready guests from high school marching bands to 72-year-old Al 'Carnival Time' Johnson, reworking his 1960 classic song that became the anthem of Mardi Gras, Galactic whisks the listener around the neighborhoods to feel the Mardi Gras moment in all its variety of flavors.


    The Brazilian influence on Carnivale Electricos appears in three Brazilian-flavored instrumentals, including JuLou, which riffs on an old Brazilian tune, even though the name refers to the brass funk Krewe of Julu, the walking krewe that Galactic members participate in on Mardi Gras morning. Thats the kind of connection Galactic wanted to make with Carnivale Electricos, to draw together the carnival spirit of worldwide celebration into one ecstatic, funky union.     The Beach Boys' practice of double-tracking their vocals really lends itself to stereo mixes. Split left and right, as they are on a lot of those early stereo versions, those doubled vocal parts can really envelop the listener, surrounding them with Wilsons, Loves and Jardines!


    All of the newer stereo mixes on these remastered albums (The Beach Boys Today!, Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!), The Beach Boys' Party, Pet Sounds and Smiley Smile) were all done by Mark Linett on behalf of the Beach Boys.


    Besides the hit title track on Surfin' USA and its popular drag-racing flip side (Shut Down), AllMusic.com notes that Surfin' USA has a lovely, heartbreaking ballad (Lonely Sea) and a couple of strong Brian Wilson originals (The Noble Surfer and Farmer's Daughter).


    There are also a surprisingly high quotient of instrumentals (five) that demonstrate that ... the Beach Boys could play respectably gutsy surf rock as a self-contained unit. Indeed, the album as a whole is the best they would make, prior to the late '60s, as a band that played most of their instruments, rather than as a vehicle for Brian Wilson's ideas.     Natural Motion

    Other Colors is an exploratory pop group from Baltimore comprised of longtime collaborators William Ryerson and Daniel Whatley, with a rotating cast of characters.


    A historic blizzard in Baltimore back in 2010 played prominently in the early history of the band. With the city shut down for almost two weeks, Ryerson took the opportunity to write a droney, catchy set of songs on a broken electric guitar, layering sounds overtop on an old four-track. The results, captured on a self-titled EP released a year later, set a course for the group's future pop ambitions: a skewed, lo-fi miniature of greater things to come.


    Their proper debut album, Free Thoughts, was recorded in 2012 by Dan Frome (Big Ups, Expert Alterations). A more polished and recognizably rock affair, it features contributions from notable musicians including Jenn Wasner (Wye Oak) and Dave Jacober (Dope Body). Released on their own Genpop imprint in early 2013, the album incorporates introspective folk-rock moods and atmospheric production into a set of memorable songs. To follow up, they recorded a two-song seven-inch with Chester Endersby Gwazda (Future Islands, Dan Deacon) that more accurately captured the band's dreamy live sound.


    The band is now preparing to release their second album Natural Motion, recorded and mixed throughout 2015 at Beat Babies by Chris Freeland (Lower Dens, Wye Oak). This new album draws stylistic inspiration from forgotten AM radio hits and the smoother side of krautrock, conjuring tender soft-rock vibes through the fractured lens of contemporary underground pop.     To meet the standards of Analogue Productions, our Beach Boys album reissues had a mission to achieve: Present the band's music the way that Brian Wilson - famed co-founder, songwriter and arranger - intended. Mono mixes created under Wilson's supervision were how the surf rockin' California crew rose to fame! And we've got 'em!


    For the early part of the Beach Boys career, all of their singles were mixed and mastered and released only in the mono format - they didn't release a single in stereo until 1968. In those days, hits were made on AM radio in mono. And the mono of those times worked well for Wilson, who suffers from partial deafness. Still, apart from Surfin' Safari, which was mono only, the Beach Boys did turn in stereo masters on all of their early albums up until 1965. The Beach Boys Today! was the first LP for which they only delivered a mono master.


    The stereo editions of Surfin' USA, Surfer Girl, Little Deuce Coupe, Shut Down Vol. 2, All Summer Long, Beach Boys Christmas Album and Beach Boys Concert were all mixed in stereo by their own preferred engineer, Chuck Britz, ostensibly under the group's supervision.


    Brian may or may not have been present for those mixing sessions - evidence suggests that he trusted Chuck's skills enough to let him prepare those mixes on his own - but the group held onto their multitrack tapes and delivered stereo masters to Capitol, rather than allowing Capitol to prepare their own stereo versions. Later, when Brian was only delivering mono masters, Capitol would prepare the Duophonic pseudo stereo editions for the stereo market, says Alan Boyd, producer and Beach Boys' archivist.
    All of the newer stereo mixes on these remastered albums (The Beach Boys Today!, Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!), The Beach Boys' Party, Pet Sounds and Smiley Smile) were all done by Mark Linett on behalf of the Beach Boys.
    Still, bottom line, the mono mixes were where Brian Wilson paid intense attention, and the dedication paid off!

    Besides the hit title track and its popular drag-racing flip side (Shut Down), AllMusic.com notes that Surfin' USA has a lovely, heartbreaking ballad (Lonely Sea) and a couple of strong Brian Wilson originals (The Noble Surfer and Farmer's Daughter).


    There are also a surprisingly high quotient of instrumentals (five) that demonstrate that ... the Beach Boys could play respectably gutsy surf rock as a self-contained unit.     Released just one month after the Surfer Girl album, Little Deuce Coupe was, incredibly, the Beach Boys' fourth album in less than a year. Brian Wilson and the band responded by turning in arguably their most consistent effort to date - and a concept album, to boot.


    Little Deuce Coupe expanded the band's subject matter to encompass 1963 America's burgeoning love affair with hot rods, surrounding previously released cuts such as the title track, 409, and others with strong new material (much of it cowritten by Wilson and a DJ, Roger Christian). A highpoint: the a cappella James Dean tribute A Young Man Is Gone (a reworking of Bobby Troup's beautiful Their Hearts Were Full of Spring), a prime example of Wilson's arranging genius and the band's vocal prowess. Their Hearts Were Full Of Spring had been a standard for the vocal group The Four Freshmen, whose lush and distinctive jazz-based vocal arrangements had a huge influence on Brian's musical development.

    Put simply, this is the Beach Boys at their mid-'60s prime. Ironically, the band's greatest evolutionary leap was spurred by its leader, Brian Wilson, who decided to drop out of the band's live performances after a December 1964 nervous breakdown to concentrate on honing the Beach Boys' studio sound. With Wilson's productions gaining a significant new depth and confidence (note the innovative modulations on 'Dance, Dance, Dance'), the first half of Today seems a logical, upbeat step forward from its predecessors. But it's the album's second act that steals the show, setting the stage for the triumph of Pet Sounds.     Capitol Records, which had already released ten Beach Boys albums in three years, was bugging the group for product that it could release in time for the 1965 Christmas season. To buy time while Brian Wilson began conceiving the Pet Sounds masterpiece, the group issued a set of covers, mostly of the '50s rock and R&B they had listened to as schoolboys. Packaged as if it had been recorded at an actual party, it was in fact recorded in the studio, with friends and romantic partners adding sounds and vocals to create an informal atmosphere. With the exception of a bass guitar, all the instruments were acoustic; the acoustic guitar-and-bongo arrangements, in fact, give this a hootenanny campfire feel. In recent years, this album has gone up a few notches in critical esteem, praised for its loose, casual feel and insight into the group's influences. ...     Surfer Girl, the Beach Boys' third album for Capitol Records, was the first produced by Brian Wilson on his own (the previous two, Surfin Safari and Surfin USA (Mono & Stereo Remasters), were co-produced by the late Capitol A&R man, Nick Venet). This album was The Boys' first really great effort; there's not a bad track in the lot, including the title song, Catch A Wave, In My Room, Hawaii, Our Car Club, Little Deuce Coupe, Your Summer Dream, and more.


    Apart from Surfin' Safari, which was mono only, the Beach Boys did turn in stereo masters on all of their early albums up until 1965. The Beach Boys Today! was the first LP for which they only delivered a mono master.


    The stereo editions of Surfin' USA, Surfer Girl, Little Deuce Coupe, Shut Down Vol. 2, All Summer Long, Beach Boys Christmas Album and Beach Boys Concert were all mixed in stereo by their own preferred engineer, Chuck Britz, ostensibly under the group's supervision.


    Brian may or may not have been present for those mixing sessions - evidence suggests that he trusted Chuck's skills enough to let him prepare those mixes on his own - but the group held onto their multitrack tapes and delivered stereo masters to Capitol, rather than allowing Capitol to prepare their own stereo versions. Later, when Brian was only delivering mono masters, Capitol would prepare the Duophonic pseudo stereo editions for the stereo market, says Alan Boyd, producer and Beach Boys' archivist.


    The Beach Boys' practice of double-tracking their vocals really lends itself to stereo mixes. Split left and right, as they are on a lot of those early stereo versions, those doubled vocal parts can really envelop the listener, surrounding them with Wilsons, Loves and Jardines!


    All of the newer stereo mixes on these remastered albums (The Beach Boys Today!, Summer Days (And Summer Nights!!), The Beach Boys' Party, Pet Sounds and Smiley Smile) were all done by Mark Linett on behalf of the Beach Boys.

    Voices Carry is the first studio album by the American band 'Til Tuesday, released in 1985. 'Til Tuesday's debut single was the album's title track, which went to #8 on the Billboard singles chart and remains the band's best-known song. The title song was originally sung by a woman to a woman, but due to record company pressure for less controversial lyrics it was changed to be sung to a man. The Voices Carry video won the MTV Video Music Award for Best New Artist and was played heavily on MTV. It depicts a boyfriend trying to convert Aimee Mann to his upper-class lifestyle; she finally lashes out at him during a concert at Carnegie Hall, standing up from her seat in the audience and belting the lyrics (He said, shut up! He said, shut up! Oh God, can't you keep it down?...) as she removes her cap to reveal her signature spiky, rat-tailed hair. The album's second and third singles were Love in a Vacuum and Looking over My Shoulder; the latter peaked at No. 61 on the Billboard Hot 100.

    Meg Myers has announced her new album 'Take Me To The Disco,' a relentless and brutally honest record, and the raw result of Meg's own personal journey. As on her breakout 2015 debut album 'Sorry,' Meg's tremendously powerful voice (Rolling Stone) and seething...riffs (The New York Times) are front and center, but this time around, she explores love, loneliness and trauma with unflinching candor, facing her inner green-eyed monster head-on and attacking each bar with a primal ferocity.


    To accompany the announcement, Meg has released lead single Numb, a haunting look at the pressures of the music business and life in general. 'Feeling numb' relates to the many pressures of life and our reactions to this weight, says Meg. When this burden becomes too much and we can no longer run...we essentially numb out. Billboard said of the song, piano and electronics gnaw at the alt-rock arrangement, declaring, the cathartic 'Numb' leaves you with a paradoxically life-affirming feeling, a weapon against the modern-day frustrations inherent in life and music.


    Meg co-wrote most of the songs on the album with her producer and collaborator Christian Leggy Langdon, and enlisted the help of Victor Indrizzo, who has played with Depeche Mode, to play drums on the record. Meg also used a live string section for the first time - The Section Quartet appears on six songs on the album.


    Listening back to some of these songs made me realize what I was really writing about...what was underneath it all, says Meg. On the surface, I thought I was writing about love loss but I've learned it goes much deeper than that. It's going back to the child in me that needed to be healed. I've always written from a true place, but in getting to know myself better, I'm now writing from an even deeper level of honesty.


    Meg, who grew up in a Jehovah's Witness household, moved to Los Angeles when she was 19 where she recorded her debut album 'Sorry' on Atlantic Records. That album spawned Top 15 and Top 20 alternative radio hits, Desire and Sorry, respectively, with MTV calling Desire the female answer to Nine Inch Nails' Closer. Meg's striking and visceral music videos have skyrocketed to upwards of 9 million YouTube views, and her Spotify plays rank in the tens of millions. When I first wrote 'Numb,' explains Meg, it was about my experience with a major record label.     Political. Personal. Poetic. Such is the new album Reckon from one of Canada's most renowned songwriters, Jason Collett. Recorded at Revolution Recording Studios in Toronto, the album was produced by Howie Beck and includes guest appearances by Afie Jurvanen (Bahamas), Basia Bulat, Kevin Drew and Zeus. An 11-song retrospective titled Essential Cuts will be released as a companion to Reckon as a digital download in the vinyl package. Chosen by Jason himself Essential Cuts represent the sense of community that he has always held in such high regard.


    There is a poetic serendipity to the fact that Jason Collett started recording Reckon during the same month that Occupy Wall Street began. Not necessarily setting out to make a record with these overtones, his travels and political engagements lead to the subject matter being unavoidable. "The consistent thread throughout this record is loss," he explains. "The love songs are largely emotive reflections of the 'political' songs. All written through the distillation of events since the economic calamity of 2008 and it's insidiously long looming shadow. I've seen first hand the kind of devastation this crisis has wrecked upon much of the world I've toured these last few years.     The Helio Sequence

    The self-titled sixth album by The Helio Sequence began
    with a friendly competition. Several of the duo's friends
    within the Portland, Oregon music scene had been playing
    "The 20-Song Game." The rules were simple, playful and
    ambitious: Songwriters would arrive in their studios at
    prearranged times and spend all day recording 20
    complete songs. When they were finished, they'd have a
    party, listen to the results and talk about the process of
    simply making music in the moment. Brandon Summers
    and Benjamin Weikel took the spirit of the game to heart,
    and forged ahead writing a new record.


    "Negotiations was a very long, introspective process,"
    remembers Summers of the band's 2012 Sub Pop LP. "We
    shut ourselves off from the world and disappeared down
    the rabbit hole. That's how we tend to work, but we wanted
    to try something new, open and immediate."


    In May of 2014 they began arriving each morning in their
    Portland studio with the mission of making as much music
    as possible in one month. They just played, recorded ideas,
    added layers, and eventually cut the loose takes into rough
    shapes, steadily building songs from their cavalier sketches.


    When June arrived, the duo sent their 26 finished songs to
    31 friends, fans and family members. They asked each
    person to rank their 10 favorite tracks. By summer's end,
    they had the 10 tracks that shape the breathless and
    magnetic The Helio Sequence-a record so named
    because it's a kind of clean restart for the longtime pair, a
    revamp of their process and a revitalization of their results.
    The Helio Sequence is a renewed push forward for the
    band, depending on an effortless kinetic energy. It points
    to the pop that's bound Summers and Weikel for so long.
    Indeed, there's a delightful candor to The Helio Sequence,
    an openness that is a rare and special feat for a band about
    to enter its third decade.


    "It's less about curating yourself or trying to put yourself
    across how you want to be perceived," says Summers. "It's
    about having a conversation with people and giving them
    something that's who you are."

    Rowland S. Howard started playing in teenage bands in late
    70s Melbourne. Whilst still a callow youth he wrote "Shivers," an
    undisputed classic, (quietly ignoring the fact that Rowland perhaps
    doesn't see it that way and approaches the song as if it was written
    by someone else). The song was recorded by his band The Boys Next
    Door who mutated into the Birthday Party and then relocated to
    Europe to wage a guerrilla campaign against the trivialities of the
    80s, until they turned their fire upon themselves and disintegrated
    mid-decade.


    Whilst his former associates have moved on to weekend colour
    supplement acceptability, Rowland has commonly been perceived
    as the banished wastrel prince... exiled to a squalid garret on the
    colder edges of the kingdom, accompanied only by his dreams and
    inclinations. His demeanour (pale, gaunt, stick thin, sickly, dark
    humoured, fatalistic) has perhaps inadvertently added far too much
    credence to this interpretation of events. The shadow of this myth
    has seemingly obscured the sheer volume of his creativity and the
    singularity of his musical vision.


    Always respected by his peers, a scan through Rowland's
    catalogue of work sees him allied with the likes of Lydia Lunch,
    Thurston Moore, Wim Wenders, Barry Adamson, The Gun Club, Nikki
    Sudden, the Beasts Of Bourbon, the Hungry Ghosts and HTRK.
    Rowland's own ensemble These Immortal Souls gun their engines
    in the ill-lit background and the legacy of his work with The Birthday
    Party scores the skin of successive generations of musicians and
    fans.


    But it's a history Rowland would gleefully put a match to. With or
    without it Rowland S. Howard would make tense, beautiful music,
    would deliver us his personal vision of the world, would create Pop
    Crimes.


    Long-time faithful friends Mick Harvey (who played with Rowland
    for over 30 years), JP Shilo (Hungry Ghosts) and producer Lindsay
    Gravina make for a formidable backline. Out front the guitar playing
    couldn't be any one else but Rowland S Howard and his weary,
    almost journalistic vocal delivery dispassionately sits amidst the
    sweaty panic of the music, adding to the ill ease.


    The band lurch in to Pop Crimes as if dragging a rain soaked body
    across a muddy field. The ghosts of Lee Hazlewood, Snatch, Sergio
    Leone, The Shangri-Las and nameless guys from a never known chain
    gang watch on. Within the first few breaths Rowland references
    Stalin, Calvary and genocide, whilst razoring guitar lines the current
    crop of post-punk revisionists could only fantasize about.


    "Shut Me Down" is Rowland at his most romantic, though
    inevitably it's shot through with loss and longing. If only Dusty
    Springfield were alive to revel in its drama. Talk Talk's 'Life's What
    You Make It' is re-imagined as if it had risen from the grind of a
    Detroit auto plant's assembly line. '(I Know) A Girl Called Johnny'
    sees Jonnine D from HTRK sidle up to the microphone for a duet
    that will melt even the coldest of hearts. It's a glorious missing link
    between the New York girl group sound and the street smarts of
    Suicide. Townes Van Zandt's "Nothin" is given a chilling tenement
    building transformation. "Wayward Man" has the band wailing like
    alarm sirens before Rowland emerges at his most contemplative
    with the gorgeous, fragile build of "Ave Maria." Final track "The
    Golden Age Of Bloodshed" takes the album out on a swaggering,
    swashbuckling epic, with salvation slipping through the narrator's
    fingers.

    PHOX

    PHOX is a bunch of friends from the Midwestern circus hamlet, Baraboo, WI, a place where kids often drink poisoned groundwater and become endowed mutants. They make music that straddles Feist and Monty Python.


    It was in Baraboo that the six unlikely musicians attended high school together, some playing on the soccer field, others on video production sets. But in a town with a drive-your-tractor-to-school day, they didn't last.


    They did the thing that most people do when they are 18: they fled the coop, each going their separate ways (to film school, cosmetology school, a job with Homeland Security ). But promises were made that couldn't be kept, and as they fell in unrequited love and lost their respective jobs, in spite of themselves, each simultaneously pulled the ripcord and came home.
    The sextet promptly (-ish) got a house together in the Portland of the heartland, Madison, WI. As prolifically documented in their online video series, PHOX rekindled their onetime A/V production house while discovering how to live as a family (i.e. how not to berate each other about the hair in the sink).


    After two years of cohabiting, PHOX beheld a demo reel of bedroom-recorded music (and home movies) that made Bon Iver and The Fray recording engineer Brian Joseph blush. Donning his producer's cape (and occasional lab coat), Joseph cheer-led the band through its debut album at April Base Studios in Eau Claire, WI.


    Joseph's enthusiasm propelled the band through the production of more than a dozen songs that have been swimming in the think tank for two years.


    Mixed by Michael Brauer at Electric Lady in NYC, their debut album is a school of simple folk-pop songs swimming amidst a chaotic eddy of rock, psychedelia, and soul.


    If the goal here is friendship, PHOX is doing quite well. If the chosen path is blue collar pixel-pushing and church camp trust falls, they're on the way. And if their only coping mechanism is to lay down their arms and, for 30 or 45 minutes a day, shut up and listen to each other, you can't be too upset.
