Still Crazy After All These Years

The third new studio album of Paul Simon's post-Simon & Garfunkel career was a musical and lyrical change of pace from his first two, Paul Simon and There Goes Rhymin' Simon. Where Simon had taken an eclectic approach before, delving into a variety of musical styles and recording all over the world, Still Crazy found him working for the most part with a group of jazz-pop New York session players, though he did do a couple of tracks (My Little Town and Still Crazy After All These Years) with the Muscle Shoals rhythm section that had appeared on Rhymin' Simon and another (Gone at Last) returned to the gospel style of earlier songs like Loves Me Like a Rock. Of course, My Little Town also marked a return to working with Art Garfunkel, and another Top Ten entry for S&G. But the overall feel of Still Crazy was of a jazzy style subtly augmented with strings and horns. Perhaps more striking, however, was Simon's lyrical approach. Where Rhymin' Simon was the work of a confident family man, Still Crazy came off as a post-divorce album, its songs reeking of smug self-satisfaction and romantic disillusionment. At their best, such sentiments were undercut by humor and made palatable by musical hooks, as on 50 Ways to Leave Your Lover, which became the biggest solo hit of Simon's career. But elsewhere, as on Have a Good Time, the singer's cynicism seemed unearned. Still, as out of sorts as Simon may have been, he was never more in tune with his audience: Still Crazy topped the charts, spawned four Top 40 hits, and won Grammys for Song of the Year and Best Vocal Performance.

    I See The Light

Sourced from the Original Mono Master Tapes for the First Time!

The versatile Five Americans were so tapped into the heroic pop scene of 1965-66, they were able to pen brilliant original material that could, at times, sound something like the raw garage howl of the Rolling Stones, the jangle of the Byrds, the psychedelic mystery of Jefferson Airplane or the PhD folk-rock of Simon & Garfunkel.

Best of all, lead guitarist Mike Rabon, keyboardist John Durrill, rhythm guitarist Norman Ezell, bassist Jim Grant and drummer Jimmy Wright, put their own distinct stamp on a string of smashes that began with the mighty "I See the Light" in early 1966.

Hailing from Oklahoma, this hungry quintet hit the jackpot when they moved en masse to Dallas and hooked up with the red-hot Abnak label, run by John Abnor, Sr. Their debut longplayer, I See the Light, was a perfect snapshot of what made 1966 a watershed year for rock. The song of the same name opens with what may be the most famous held organ note in rock history, then turns to a stomping bass line that would have been the envy of Slade's Doc Marten army six years later.

"Goodbye" is a perfect extension of the Slick-Balin vocal tandem about to catch fire in San Francisco. "I Know They Lie" has that Byrds/Brummels Rickenbacker jangle down pat. "Don't Blame Me" and "It's a Crying Shame," a pair of snarling garage-rock nuggets, go directly for the jugular with results every bit as lethal as anything ever cut in the Lone Star state.

This 180g vinyl-only release is impeccably sourced from the original mono master tapes, the first time the album has been re-released in ultra-honest, bone-crunching mono!

Joels Breakthrough Record Loaded With Smash Hits: Movin Out (Anthonys Song), Just the Way You Are, Only the Good Die Young, Shes Always a Woman

Getting It Right: Mobile Fidelitys Half-Speed Mastered Version Brings Phil Ramones Celebrated Production into Full-Color Detail

1977 Set a Grammy Winner for Record of the Year and Song of the Year

Billy Joel entered 1977 with a great track record but in need of breakthrough. Pairing with producer Phil Ramone (Carly Simon, Simon & Garfunkel), who developed the requisite ingredients missing from Joels formula, the singer-songwriter became a household name and chart-topping success courtesy of The Stranger. Certified ten-times platinum, Joels artistic and commercial smash remains a pop-rock benchmark. Better still, it now sounds astonishing.

An integral part of Mobile Fidelitys Billy Joel catalog restoration series, The Stranger is mastered from the original master tapes and pressed on 180g LP at RTI. Far superior to the previous Sony and Simply Vinyl analog reissues, this edition emphasizes the crucial touches and insightful techniques Ramone brought to a batch of material that ranks among Joels most clever, catchy, and sagacious.

Whereas a handful of Joels preceding efforts feature a near-flawless mix of melodic arrangements and poignant lyrics, the aspects he sought in order to graduate into a more serious artist arrive here via Ramones more muscular, fleshed-out, and rock-enabling production. The streamlined approach slightly strips back the sweeping developments heard on Piano Man and Turnstiles, and on this edition, lays bare the core of the material, allowing the vocalists bittersweet yearning, rollicking 88 notes, and working-class conviction to emanate with full-bodied detail, vivid color, and grand-scale dynamics.

A Grammy winner for both Record and Song of the Year, Just the Way You Are epitomizes Joels balladic reach, his ability to transfer wistful sentiments and lovelorn emotions. He also flashes a mean streak. The animated Only the Good Die Young bounces and hops to an updated classic-R&B rhythm and, underneath its beauty, Shes Always A Woman hints at trouble underfoot. And then theres the New York-centric, character-rich poetry of the vignettes.

Akin to many of his influences, Joel nails the grit, personality, specificity, descriptiveness, and behavior of protagonists that populate Movin Out (Anthonys Song) and Scenes From an Italian Diner, each equally at home on The Stranger as well as on a Broadway play or on a golden-era Hollywood film soundtrack. No wonder that, just months after its original release, Joel was no longer a stranger to any of the music-loving public. He would never look back.

Don't pass up this seminal pop-rock work in the best fidelity its ever enjoyed.

The Golden Hits Of The Everly Brothers

Mastered from the Original Warner Bros. Tapes by Joe Reagoso

Don and Phil Everly are most certainly two of the most important figures in popular music history. Whether rock, pop, adult contemporary or country music, The Everly Brothers have consistently rose to the occasion with their successful harmonies, musicianship, and of course the knack to pick songs and write their own material which has made them legends in their own time.

Their legendary status has put them on world stages for over five decades and they have been honored and adored by both the fans and huge rock music icons like The Beatles, The Beach Boys, and Simon and Garfunkel. When the Everly Brothers joined the Warner Bros. label in the late '50s, their marquee value was just beginning to skyrocket. A long term lucrative deal, unprecedented at the time, afforded the boys the real opportunity to churn out hit after hit in record time.

While making a successful string of albums and hit singles, their greatest hits LP, simply titled The Golden Hits Of The Everly Brothers, showcased their star power in 1962. Filled with a dozen of their biggest hits like Cathys Clown, Thats Old Fashioned, Crying In The Rain, Ebony Eyes and their classic interpretation of Little Richards Lucille, the album itself was another home run for the duo. It rode the charts for months during its initial release and has been a consistent seller in various formats since the original album was discontinued decades ago!

Friday Music kicks off The Everly Brothers 180 Gram Audiophile Series with their greatest hits album The Golden Hits Of The Everly Brothers. This first time ever high grade audiophile vinyl release is mastered from the original Warner Bros. tapes by Joe Reagoso at Friday Music Studios and at Capitol Records with Ron McMaster. It also includes the brilliant album cover photography of Michael Levin and the all of the great songs you remember including other major Top 40 smashes like Dont Blame Me, Walk Right Back and the masterful ballad So Sad.

To keep your rock and roll investment in mint shape, Friday Music has also enclosed a vinyl lined album sleeve to protect the music and a poly bag for the album cover to enhance your listening for years to come.

    The Graduate (Speakers Corner)

With his film The Graduate, which was crowned with an Oscar and five Golden Globes, director Mike Nichols created far more than just the story of the erotic initiation of the college graduate Benjamin. Not only the scenario but also the production modalities were revolutionary. For the very first time the crusted morals of the American upper class were attacked by means of film, an Alfa Romeo - a European car - was advertised most effectively, and a soundtrack was put together from already existent, successful pop numbers. No words are really necessary about the music, since numbers such as Sound Of Silence, Mrs. Robinson and Scarborough Fair have entered into the annals of musical culture ever since they were used in the film. It is astounding to note how seamlessly the various works fit snugly into the film's context, as though they had been specially written for the scenes.

This soundtrack is a monument to Dustin Hoffman, who played his first big role in the film, and it catapulted Simon & Garfunkel right to the top of the list of ballad singers. But it also recalls to memory the peppy, instrumental insertion numbers by Dave Grusin, who virtually fell into oblivion after all the hype about this provocative movie.

    Musicians:

    • Paul Simon (guitar, vocal)

    • Art Garfunkel (vocal)

    • Dave Grusin

    About Speakers Corner

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Speakers Corner all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existant tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasise that Speakers Corner Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle. We have one digital recording in our catalogue (Alan Parsons / Eye In The Sky"), but even in this particular case we used the analogue tapes for cutting.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects - excluding the exception above - and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme

Ranked 201/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Simon and Garfunkel's classic album Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme, released in 1966, marked the duo's emergence as both a brilliant creative force and one of their era's biggest-selling recording acts.

The pair's third album, Parsley, Sage, Rosemary and Thyme was the first on which they won complete artistic control, and they rose to the occasion brilliantly, delivering an ambitious, autumnal epic that's been described as a folkrock equivalent of the Beatles' Revolver and the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds. Combining fuzz-tinged pop and pastoral baroque-folk with the duo's heavenly
harmonies, Paul Simon's heady wordplay and some imaginatively layered production
touches, the album features such Simon and Garfunkel standards as Homeward Bound, Scarborough Fair and The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy).

Sundazed's exact vinyl replica of this harmony-rich classic is sourced from the original stereo master tapes, making this release an essential component of any '60s pop/rock collection.

    Bookends

Ranked 233/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Simon and Garfunkel's classic album Bookends, released in 1968, marked the duo's emergence as both a brilliant creative force and one of their era's biggest-selling recording acts.

Bookends, which arrived on the heels of Simon and Garfunkel's high-profile role on the soundtrack of the film The Graduate, is a brilliantly realized tour de force that captures the pleasures, tensions and fears of its era as vividly as any '60s album. Simon's literate, emotionally complex songwriting is matched by the ambitious production, which elevates the fiery folk-rockers A Hazy Shade of Winter and Save the Life of My Child, the cinematic flights America and Fakin' It, the intimate ballads Old Friends and Bookends Theme, and the deceptively whimsical Mrs. Robinson and At the Zoo.

    Bridge Over Troubled Water

Ranked 51/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Bridge Over Troubled Water is the most enduring album in the beloved duo's catalog, boasting some of their finest vocal performances as well as some of Simon's most accomplished songwriting. The album spawned no less than four hit singles: The Boxer, Cecilia, El Condor Pasa and the iconic title track, which became an instant standard and which remains one of the most-covered songs in pop history. The album also features such beloved Simon and Garfunkel classics as Keep the Customer Satisfied, Baby Driver, The Only Living Boy in New York and So Long, Frank Lloyd Wright.

Capturing the contemplative mood of the end of a tumultuous decade, Bridge Over Troubled Water quickly became one of the most popular albums of its time, appealing to counterculture audiences as well as mainstream listeners. The album spent two-and-a-half months at the top of the charts, selling more than five million copies at the time of its original release; it has since sold over 25 million copies worldwide. It also won six Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, Record of the Year and Song of the Year.

Now, four decades after its original release, Bridge Over Troubled Water is once again available in its original LP format utilizing Sundazed's exacting quality standards. Mastered from the original analog tapes, the album is pressed on high-quality, high-definition vinyl, with meticulously reproduced complete original cover art. It's the perfect way to re-experience this timeless classic.

    Paul Simon (Awaiting Repress)

If any musical justification were needed for the breakup of Simon & Garfunkel, it could be found on this striking collection, Paul Simon's post-split debut. From the opening cut, Mother and Child Reunion (a Top Ten hit), Simon, who had snuck several subtle musical explorations into the generally conservative S&G sound, broke free, heralding the rise of reggae with an exuberant track recorded in Jamaica for a song about death. From there, it was off to Paris for a track in South American style and a rambling story of a fisherman's son, Duncan (which made the singles chart). But most of the album had a low-key feel, with Simon on acoustic guitar backed by only a few trusted associates (among them Joe Osborn, Larry Knechtel, David Spinozza, Mike Manieri, Ron Carter, and Hal Blaine, along with such guests as Stefan Grossman, Airto Moreira, and Stephane Grappelli), singing a group of informal, intimate, funny, and closely observed songs (among them the lively Top 40 hit Me and Julio Down by the Schoolyard). It was miles removed from the big, stately ballad style of Bridge Over Troubled Water and signaled that Simon was a versatile songwriter as well as an expressive singer with a much broader range of musical interests than he had previously demonstrated. You didn't miss Art Garfunkel on Paul Simon, not only because Simon didn't write Garfunkel-like showcases for himself, but because the songs he did write showed off his own, more varied musical strengths.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the motion picture Forrest Gump, we're proud to announce the first ever North American vinyl pressing of the soundtrack. All 32-tracks have been placed across three records to ensure maximum audio-fidelity, in addition to vinyl mastering and lacquers by Kevin Gray, and plating at RTI. The album will be available on 180 Gram ''All American'' Red, White and Blue vinyl LPs, pressed at United Record Pressing in the USA. First pressings will be hand-numbered and limited.

The 32-song soundtrack from the film was originally released on July 6, 1994. The soundtrack includes songs from Elvis Presley, Fleetwood Mac, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Aretha Franklin, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Three Dog Night, The Byrds, The Doors, The Mamas & the Papas, The Doobie Brothers, Simon & Garfunkel, Bob Seger, and Buffalo Springfield, among others. Music producer Joel Sill reflected on compiling the soundtrack: ''We wanted to have very recognizable material that would pinpoint time periods, yet we didn't want to interfere with what was happening cinematically.'' The two-disc album has a variety of music from the 1950s-1980s performed by American artists. According to Sill, this was due to Zemeckis' request, ''All the material in there is American. Bob (Zemeckis) felt strongly about it. He felt that Forrest wouldn't buy anything but American.''

Forrest Gump: The Soundtrack is one of the most successful movie soundtrack albums of all time. The album - like the film - instantly captured the heart of America, going into the top 10 of Billboard's Pop Album chart and shipping over 1 million units in its first few weeks of release. This timeless double album of American Classics has since been certified DIAMOND - selling over 6 million copies.

''The movie Forrest Gump is about time. A simple man's journey through complicated times. The coming-of-age of a generation and a country. And at the heart of the story is the music. Music that lives with us, always there to remind us of the people, the places, and the events of our time.'' - Robert Zemeckis & Eric Roth

    Bus Stop

No rest for the Hollies in 1966! Hot on the heels of Beat Group!, Bus Stop rolled into U.S. record shops, right on schedule. Written by Gouldman, the title track became the bands first Top Ten U.S. single, peaking at #5, and featuring their bell-tone harmonies to perfection. In addition to the sparkling single, the album is packed with their renditions of contemporary hits like Simon and Garfunkel's I Am A Rock, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles' Mickey's Monkey' and the Fred Neil/Roy Orbison chestnut Candy Man. Self-penned songs We're Through, Don't Run and Hide and You Know He Did also shine brightly and prove there was no danger of covering up the band members writing skills. With this disc, the Hollies put the rock world on notice that they were the British Invasions most beat-filled battalion!

Out of print for decades, this classic album is FINALLY available again. Sourced from the aurally awesome original U.K. mono master, this LP is pressed on pristine 180-gram vinyl per your turntables request. Get in the queue!

Perhaps the most undervalued band of the original British Invasion, The Hollies hits are well known in the U.S. but their early albums are almost impossible to find! Taking their name from Buddy Holly and modeling their harmonies on the Everly Brothers, the Hollies gathered these American musical ingredients and whipped them into a wholly-UKnique concoction. Forging their sound to the east of their Liverpool brothers-in-beat, this Manchester quintet had it all: the soaring vocals of Allan Clarke, Graham Nash and Tony Hicks; Hicks cascading, arpeggio-laden licks on guitar and a hard-hitting rhythm section driven by drummer extraordinaire Bobby Elliot. On top of that, their keen ears for top quality songs, written by the premier songsmiths of the day like teenage wunderkind Graham Gouldman, Chip Wild Thing Taylor and the stellar in-house writing team of Clarke/Hicks/Nash, ensured that their albums were extraordinary from start to finish. In short, they were a band that exuded greatness on all fronts. Now, as that greatness has been acknowledged by their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Sundazed Music is proud to present meticulously restored vinyl editions of the rare U.S. mono versions of the Hollies third and fourth Imperial label albums, from 1966.

    The Ash & Clay

The Ash & Clay culminates a whirlwind first year of the Milk Carton Kids' existence. In that short time the duo of Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan have built a vibrant following with the simple purity of their music: touring with the Lumineers, Old Crow Medicine Show, Punch Brothers, and KD Lang; appearing on NPR's Tiny Desk concert series; charming audiences with their deadpan on-stage humor (riffing on the Smothers Brothers for young fans who have never heard of the Smothers Brothers); offering their debut album for free to willing fans - over 110,000 downloaded - from their website; and grabbing press acclaim usually reserved for veteran artists. A sweetly dazzling variation on closeharmony vocals, part Simon and Garfunkel and part Everly Brothers, with occasional acoustic prestidigitation," proclaimed The New York Times. With three new Milk Carton Kids songs - "Snake Eyes," "The Ash & Clay" and "The Jewel of June" - featured in the new Gus Van Sant film Promised Land starring Matt Damon, 2013 looks to be a big year for these Kids.

    There Goes Rhymin' Simon

Retaining the buoyant musical feel of Paul Simon, but employing a more produced sound, There Goes Rhymin' Simon found Paul Simon writing and performing with assurance and venturing into soulful and R&B-oriented music. Simon returned to the kind of vocal pyrotechnics heard on the Simon & Garfunkel records by using gospel singers. On Love Me Like a Rock and Tenderness (which sounded as though it could have been written to Art Garfunkel), the Dixie Hummingbirds sang prominent backup vocals, and on Take Me to the Mardi Gras, Reverend Claude Jeter contributed a falsetto part that Garfunkel could have handled, though not as warmly. For several tracks, Simon traveled to the Muscle Shoals Sound Studios to play with its house band, getting a variety of styles, from the gospel of Love Me Like a Rock to the Dixieland of Mardi Gras. Simon was so confident that he even included a major ballad statement of the kind he used to give Garfunkel to sing: American Tune was his musical State of the Union, circa 1973, but this time Simon was up to making his big statements in his own voice. Though that song spoke of the age's most uncertain hour, otherwise Rhymin' Simon was a collection of largely positive, optimistic songs of faith, romance, and commitment, concluding, appropriately, with a lullaby (St. Judy's Comet) and a declaration of maternal love (Loves Me Like a Rock) -- in other words, another mother-and-child reunion that made Paul Simon and There Goes Rhymin' Simon bookend masterpieces Simon would not improve upon (despite some valiant attempts) until Graceland in 1986.

The Graduate (Original Motion Picture Soundtrack)

The Graduate is an album of songs from the soundtrack of Mike Nichols' movie The Graduate, featuring many songs from the folk-rock duo Simon & Garfunkel as well as several instrumental pieces by Dave Grusin. Originally released on January 21, 1968, the album was produced by Teo Macero.

Although the album features two versions of the acclaimed Mrs. Robinson, neither is the full version as featured on Bookends. Hearts And Bones

Hearts and Bones is the sixth solo studio album by Paul Simon. It was originally released in 1983.

The album was originally intended to be called Think Too Much, but Mo Ostin, president of Warner Bros. Records, persuaded Simon to change it to Hearts and Bones. The album was written and recorded following Simon & Garfunkel's The Concert in Central Park in 1981, and the world tour of 1982-1983. Several songs intended for Think Too Much were previewed on tour, and Art Garfunkel worked on some of the songs with Simon in the studio, with an intention that the finished product would be an all-new Simon & Garfunkel studio album. Garfunkel left the project and Simon worked the material into a solo album.

The live album 'As Recorded at Madison Square Garden' was originally released in June 1972, just one week after the concert took place at the Madison Square Garden arena in New York City. This show was Presley's first live concert in the Big Apple since the 1950s. Many musicians attended one of his shows most notably amongst them George Harrison, Art Garfunkel, David Bowie, all the members of both Ten Years After and Led Zeppelin, Paul Simon and Bob Dylan. Being backed by an eight-piece band, an orchestra and eight backup singers the show itself is the more elaborately produced follow-up to his Las Vegas performances of 1969-1970.

    Tear Down The Walls

The rumbling baritone of Fred Neil and Vince Martins earthy tenor... Its a vocal blend every bit as impressive as the great duos in music history: the Everly Brothers and Simon & Garfunkel with a Greenwich Village twist, of course. Put Neil and Martin, a pair of New York City folkie legends-in-the-making, into a recording studio with a young, pre-Spoonful John Sebastian on harmonica and Felix Pappalardi (later to produce Cream and the Youngbloods) on guitarron (an acoustic Mexican bass guitar) and magic is inevitable. This, of course, is Fred Neil in 1964, well before he just walked away from the folk scene and split for Florida and premature retirement in 1971, to remain an enigma until his recent death. Every recording by this compelling, monstrously talented singer/songwriter should be cherished like spun gold. From the original Elektra Records stereo master, Tear Down the Walls is one of Neils first studio sessions and is undeniably also one of his best.

    Garden State Soundtrack

The soundtrack to Zach Braff's Garden State is nearly as much of a piece with the film as the similarly sweet, quirky combinations of sound and vision in Wes Anderson's films and soundtracks. Garden State, however, is more modern in its outlook and more emotionally direct, with a mixtape earnestness belied by using not one but two songs from the Shins' Oh, Inverted World. New Slang is an obvious choice, as the song just seems to grow in stature as time passes, but Caring Is Creepy, Oh, Inverted World's vulnerable, ever-so-slightly unhinged opening track, is not, and adds to the personal, diary-like feel of the album. The bright poignancy of the Shins' tracks stands out even more among the low-key melancholy of songs like Coldplay's Don't Panic, Remy Zero's Fair, and Colin Hay's I Just Don't Think I'll Ever Get Over You. The inclusion of Hay's track, Bonnie Somerville's Winding Road, and the Cary Brothers' Blue Eyes shows that Garden State doesn't go for the hipster, too-cool-for-school poses that one might expect from the soundtrack of a hot indie movie, even with the inclusion of Iron & Wine's cover of the Postal Service's Such Great Heights. Still, there's something of a collegiate feel to the soundtrack, especially with the re-rediscovery of Nick Drake (One of These Things First) and Simon & Garfunkel (The Only Living Boy in New York) as well as the tentative forays into electronica and trip-hop like Zero 7's In the Waiting Line, Frou Frou's Let Go, and Thievery Corporation's Lebanese Blonde. Perhaps this collegiate feel comes from the fact that those years are often the time when many people are the most ready and willing to explore music that is new to them (but not necessarily new), but, as the success of Garden State's soundtrack shows, any time can be the right time.
