    Sister

"Let's get something straight. There is no album in the entire corpus of indie rock-not Loveless, not Surfer Rosa, not Psychocandy-that reaches the heights of invention, joy, and magic of Sonic Youth's sublime fifth album.... The haunted reveries of Sister remain with you for years, even if you only hear them once . Sister is the sonic manifestation of refracted light. It's a record that changes you."

    -Stereogum

One of Sonic Youth's most beloved albums, 1987's Sister incorporated the dissonance of their earlier releases into more traditional song structures. It's an innovative and thrilling work assuredly delivered by a band at the peak of their powers.

Cruel Sister was an album recorded in 1970 by Folk Rock band Pentangle. All the tracks are versions of traditional songs. Whereas their previous album had been produced by Shel Talmy, and featured quite a heavily produced, commercial sound, Cruel Sister was produced by Bill Leader, noted for his recordings of Folk musicians.

The whole of side two of the album is taken up with an extended version of the ballad Jack Orion, previously recorded by Jansch on his own Jack Orion album. The arrangement on Cruel Sister develops through several sections with different rhythms and instrumentation.

Allmusic gave the album resounding approval in their retrospective review, applauding its dense, layered sound that is woven within the fabric of each song like a tapestry and praising Jacqui McShee's vocal work in particular.

    Sister Faith

Celebrating their 10th year as one of independent music's most substantive bands, Louisville's Coliseum return with their fourth full-length, the stunning Sister Faith. Expanding on the anthemic direction the trio veered toward on 2010's highly acclaimed House With a Curse, Sister Faith's 13 songs are the most dynamic and immediately captivating of the band's career, bristling with galvanizing melodies at the collision point between punk and noise-rock.

The first album to be recorded in producer J. Robbins' recently relocated Magpie Cage Studios, Sister Faith is also the first Coliseum recording to feature new bassist, Kayhan Vaziri, in addition to contributions from some of the groups' closest friends and musical peers: Wata of Boris, J. Robbins (Jawbox, Burning Airlines), and Jason Loewenstein (Sebadoh, The Fiery Furnaces), Jason Farrell (Swiz, Bluetip) all make small but memorable contributions.

John Baizley of Baroness recently wrote, "Musical progression tends to come at the expense of quality or ethics, and Coliseum have sacrificed neither. Songwriting and emotional content have become their focus, and to that end they have gracefully transitioned from the unrelenting anger, rage, and rawness of youth to a more thought-provoking, yet no-less-powerful or insightful sound that is entirely their own." Sister Faith is the encapsulation of that slow and steady transition, the new peak of Coliseum's highly creative and inspiring career.

    Weird Sister

We're excited to announce the release of the debut album by thrilling Cardiff-based noisepop five-piece Joanna Gruesome. Brimming with irresistible pop melodies and spiked with dissonant fuzzy jangle, their songs are shot through with loud discordant feedback and super-fast, hardcore punk drumbeats. Kicking it against sexism and homophobia, nothing is off-limits, drawing inspiration from DIY scenes such as Riot Grrrl/noisepop/C86/K Records as well as post hardcore like Drive Like Jehu/Converge and the art rock of The Velvet Underground, Swirlies and My Bloody Valentine.

Joanna Gruesome comprise Alanna on vocals, Owen on guitar, Max on bass, George on guitar and Dave on drums. Most of the album was written during a month long stay in a seedy west Brighton hotel called The Hell House and recorded under the guidance of producer MJ of the much lauded Hookworms. Awash with nods to mental illness and the dark recesses of the mind, the record is littered with references to the devil or zombies and allusions to comic books.
Take first single "Secret Surprise," in which mental illness takes a physical form and is fought using razor blades. Or Anti-Parent Cowboy Killers, which is about stealing a scooter and driving it into the ocean when you should be in school LEARNING. Or Sugarcrush, about spending a summer burning knitwear. Slotting in with contemporaries like Swearin' and Speedy Ortiz, Joanna Gruesome offer a staggeringly diverse album, unexpectedly quiet and surprisingly loud.

"Abrasion, anger, attitude. One guitarist is in the audience, but this isn't too much of a stretch. There are slower parts where the musicians take a second to breath. There are noisier bits where the musicians take a second to reflect. There are thumpy bits where the musicians take a second to dance and enjoy themselves. Everyone's smiling. Everyone's hugging themselves. What a glorious mess of a noise to be a part of. What a glorious sense of community." - Everett True, Collapse Board

    Clear Jacket

This is the second full length album by the five members of Twin Sister, now known as Mr Twin Sister, their first in three years. Far deeper, darker, and more substantial than anything they have done before, with themes of self-identity and isolation explored both lyrically and sonically, the songs stand as a testament to breaking down the walls we surround ourselves with, to moving out of the dark and into the light.

    Sweet Sister Funk (Pure Pleasure)

From the mid to late 60's the producer Sonny Lester was at the helm of some of the period's most significant jazz music (Thad Jones-Mel Lewis Orchestra, Chick Corea, Duke Ellington's 70th birthday concert) and also some of the genre's biggest hits (mostly from organist Jimmy Mcgriff). With the folding of the Solid State label in 1971 Sonny Lester formed the aptly named Groove Merchant label (named after the tune Jerome Richardson wrote for the Jones-Lewis Orchestra). He then produced some of the periods most notable soul/jazz, jazz/fusion from the likes of McGriff, Richard Groove Holmes, Reuben Wilson, Lonnie Smith to name but a few.

This gem of an album from Ramon Morris, and one of the hardest to find on Groove Merchant, was recorded during what many people would consider to be the classic period for this particular brand of jazz/funk/soul/fusion. It was recorded not long after he'd spent time with Art Blakey as a Jazz Messenger appearing on his 1972 Prestige album Child's Dance along with Stanley Clarke and Woody Shaw. He then also recorded on the Woody Shaw album, also from 1972, Song Of Songs.

He now teaches at Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, Pa.

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

    The Secret Sisters

The Alabama-reared siblings, Laura and Lydia Rogers, whose new album is steeped in the familial camaraderie and mesmerizing harmonies braced by their Mussel Shoals roots, recorded their inaugural musical effort at Nashville's renowned Blackbird Studio. Produced by revered county knob-turner Dave Cobb (Waylon Jennings and Jamey Johnson), and executive-produced by T-Bone Burnett, The Secret Sisters' sound captured on their debut has been described by Burnett as as close to pure as it gets, and I've been doing this for forty years.

Recorded in a marathon two-week recording session, the producers also brought in vintage analog recording equipment and vintage microphones, determined to properly capture the sisters' magical harmonizing and stunning vocal power. Their signature sound is evident on songs such as Why Don't Ya Love Me, Why Baby Why, and the lifting anthem Tennessee Me, among others.

The Secret Sisters co-wrote several of the songs on the new album and reworked found treasures, including the Frank Sinatra classic Something Stupid. They also enlisted the support of legendary country musicians such as pedal steel great Robbie Turner and piano legend Pig Robbins, among others.

    Brothers and Sisters

1973 Affair Introduces Southern Rock to Popular Parlance

Dickey Betts Leads Group Through Mellower Country Rock, Pairs With Pianist Chuck Leavell

Chart-Topping Album Includes Smash "Ramblin' Man" and Favorites "Jessica" and "Southbound"

Brothers and Sisters is significant for myriad reasons. It's the first album the Allman Brothers Band made in its entirety after Duane Allman's death. It also came after bassist Berry Oakley's spookily similar passing, yet he appears on two of the songs. The 1973 set also marks the emergence of guitarist Dickey Betts as the collective's leader. And pianist Chuck Leavell's arrival. But for than anything else, the record remains noteworthy for its incredible soulfulness and completeness.

Having stayed at the top of the Billboard charts for five consecutive weeks, Brothers and Sisters constitutes the Allman Brothers Band's biggest commercial triumph. Given the circumstances surrounding its creation, such an accomplishment hardly seemed possible. Fresh from licking their wounds over Duane's tragic motorcycle accident, the group experienced dÉjà vu when Oakley met the same fate just blocks away from where his mate was killed. Rather than collapse, the Allman Brothers Band tightened up and mellowed out, inviting Leavell to join instead of recruiting another guitarist.

What the sextet gets in return for its troubles is music that marks the concrete beginnings of a form that soon become known as Southern rock. Leavell and Betts exchange notes as if the pair has been trading ideas since they were children. Slide guitars still tread over greasy grooves, yet the Allman Brothers Band digs deeper into country dirt, parlaying a twang anchored by Betts' picking and abetted by Gregg's organic, shot-of-blues vocals. The laidback vibe manifests on the signature "Ramblin' Man," a hit evocative of the record's breezy melodies and friendly interplay.

The cover art further reveals the Allman Brothers Band's mindset. Golden, tranquil, idyllic, Southern, loving: It's a paradise-longing view that would soon come crashing down in the group's lives but one that, for the duration and existence of Brothers and Sisters, remains gloriously undisturbed.

Mastered from the original master tapes and pressed on dead-quiet vinyl RTI, Mobile Fidelity's 180 gram LP of Brothers and Sisters joins the unparalleled reissue imprint's other Allman titles in presenting the superlative ensemble's work in the most lifelike, uncompromised fidelity possible. Whether it's the feather-light harmonic layering of the collective's background vocals, echoing cavity of Leavell's gospel-tinted piano, skin-against-skin smack of Jaimoe's congas, or sweet dobro lines laid down by Betts, this version betters all previous pressings by bringing you, the listener, as close to the studio as any record feasibly can.

    Six Sik Sisters (Discontinued)

It's been a scant 3 years since the last salvo from the Racebannon camp, but that time has not passed without vengeful fruit. Offering a handful of 12 singles releases (most notably the Merzbow collaboration, Merzbannon, and the DJ-friendly Wrap The Body 12) the time draws nigh and the skies turn black for a new full-length from the venerable Bloomington, IN firing squad.

Helmed by executive soundscapist Kurt Ballou of Converge, Six Sik Sisters is a stripped-down affair, yet clear and massive sounding. Tempos drop to both their fastest ever, as well as their slowest and burliest ever, with impetuous results. Racebannon is a bile-soaked conjuration of warped speed-metal riffs here colliding with Sabbathesque knuckle-drag, alongside breakneck warp-speed drumming that falls only a tad short of grindcore. As with Acid Or Blood, the noise facet of the band is now singularly incorporated into the songs themselves, and not a sonic afterthought. This is a focused beast that feasts solely to sustain itself on pain and suffering.

Brothers and Sisters of the Eternal Son

Damien is out of his goddamn mind.

This isn't a recent development, but it's an important aspect of his work that often goes ignored. In place of
this key element is the idea that his music is a sober and in-depth excavation of the American landscape and
rural psyche. Well, folks,I'm sorry, but it's not.

Damien Jurado is every character in every Damien Jurado song. He is the gun,the purple anteater, the paper
wings, the avalanche, the airshow disaster, Ohio, the ghost of his best friend's wife. It is a universe unto its
own, with it's own symbolism, creation myth, and liturgy. You might go as far as to call it a religion, and your
religion is a character in his religion.

Level with me. You're reading this because of Damien Jurado's new album,Brothers and Sisters of the Eternal
Son (produced by Richard Swift). You are a progressive minded, left-leaning person who in parlor-style
conversation regarding the globo-political ramifications of Sky Person relationships laughs knowingly so as
not to be judgmental and very reasonably concedes "Well, I don't believe He's some old man with a beard
sitting up in the clouds" at which point everyone agrees on [insert benign middle-ground] and moves on.

Consider this:What if the only way to understand a religion is to create your own?

Who is this Silver community? Where the hell are they in the Bible? Is this heresy? Agnostic reference? Isn't
this sun business a little, I don't know, animistic? Pagan? Go ahead and answer that question for yourself. I'll
    give you a second.

Do you understand the music any better?

You know that adage we all use so we have something to say while we shrug our shoulders? "People change"?
That one. Is that applicable to Jesus Christ? Maybe he's been on a personal journey of discovery since he
ascended. He went through the 60's, 70's,he turned on,tuned out, got disillusioned. Why can't we talk about
that Jesus? Does it have to be the old-timey one all the time? American folk Jesus, ugh. The one who's always
winning Best Soundtrack Oscars for people. Rarely do stories of faith make us identify with Jesus. It's
Abraham, Satan, Silver Timothy, Salome, Dr.J, Saul of Tarsus; divinely imperfect brothers and sisters who give
    Gawd something to do.

Damien Jurado made up his own Jesus because a Damien Jurado album needs a beautiful Jesus. Some freaky
space Jesus that I don't recognize. The name is the same, a lot of the imagery is the same, but he's reborn.
Born again,I mean. Yeah, as if Jesus got born again. That's what this album sounds like.

Jesus is out of his goddamn mind and I want to live in Damien's America.

    Sign me up.

Sister Sin's leather lunged style is raw and powerful... tuneful and utterly captivating. - Outburn

The band continue to bang heads around the world with a consistent formula of raw and dirty Rock N' Roll guitar riffs, stomping rhythm section, and anthemic , instantly-singable, choruses from the outstanding front-woman, Liv. SISTER SIN's tight musicianship and crisp production deliver memorable gems that are a true testament to the spirit of old-school heavy metal.

Having collaborated with and performed alongside Rock N' Roll icons MOTÖRHEAD and DORO, SISTER SIN now look to carry the torch from the glory days of MÖTLEY CRÜE and JUDAS PRIEST to a new generation of modern metalheads on Now and Forever.

Stay Hungry is the third album by Hard Rock band Twisted Sister, released in 1984. The album features the band's two biggest hits, We're Not Gonna Take It and I Wanna Rock. It also features the power ballad The Price.

It was the irrefutable menace of tracks like The Beast, S.M.F. and the massive Burn In Hell that connected with their loyal fans and displayed Twisted Sister's true power. Ironically, the album's very mainstream appeal would alienate their core Heavy Metal fan base and spell the band's overexposure-induced fall from grace, but for this brief moment, Twisted Sister were truly the talk of the town.

With Stay Hungry the New York Hard Rock veterans finally hit it out of the park. Having paid their dues on the tough as nails N.Y.C. club scene, Twisted Sister had finally worn down the opposition and truly arrived.

Sister Rosetta Tharpe Nominated For 2018 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Induction

"The Godmother Of Rock & Roll" Live In Europe

Sister Rosetta Tharpe was the first great recording star of
gospel music and among the first gospel musicians to appeal
to rhythm-and-blues and rock-and-roll audiences, later being
referred to as "the original soul sister" and "the godmother of
rock and roll". This live recording from 1960 had never been on
vinyl, until now, a whole 57 years later.

The set has plenty of variety, lots of sincere feeling, and high
levels of musicianship from the unique performer. Highlights
include "He's Got the Whole World In His Hands," "Didn't It
Rain," "The Gospel Train" and "Down By the Riverside." The
album was remastered for vinyl from analog tape and pressed
    at Pallas Group in Germany.

    Being

Mozart's Sister - the solo project of Montreal's Caila Thompson-Hannant she started back in early 2011 - delights in making glittering, celebratory pop with an underlying strain of brittle, claustrophobic energy. By marrying the accessible with the decidedly off-kilter, she displays a similar vigor and charisma to female contemporaries Grimes and tUnE-yArDs, both of whom too learned their trade among the same fertile hometown scene as her.

Since attracting a ton of buzz for her entrancing live shows and for first EP Hello, Mozart's Sister (aka Caila Thompson-Hannant) has been head-down in her bedroom writing her debut album. For anyone who's been following her work - and for new listeners - Being is Mozart's Sister expressing macrocosmic ideas about life with panache and abundant hooks.

Inspired by Discovery-era Daft Punk, Post-era Bjork, and Betty Davis, Caila produced, recorded and wrote the album using a cheap sound card and Ableton software, approaching it with a do-it-all-by-my-self ideology.

Being is fundamentally a pop record. But if you're looking to catalog her music more than that, you're going to have a hard time; Caila describes Being as an intentionally fractured album. "It was far reaching. Things didn't always connect, but that was part of the whole idea," she says. Which is representative of the best music, and maybe the best of life: looking for order in chaos, not always finding it, and living with whatever happens next.

    Ride

For his fiftieth birthday, Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian wanted one present more than any other - the reunion of one of his favorite unsung heroes, Mother Superior - only he wanted to be a part of the lineup. They're a great, classic band that hit me in the same spot as all my favorite '70s bands, whether it's UFO, Ted Nugent, Cheap Trick or KISS, Ian explains. I knew getting to play with them would be like joining KISS.

Thanks to Scott's wife Pearl Aday, who has been working with Mother Superior front man Jim Wilson for years, all it took was a quick phone call and the stage was literally set for Scott's dream gig.

The band, which quickly gained the interests of Joey Vera (Armored Saint/Fates Warning) and John Tempesta (White Zombie, The Cult) called itself Motor Sister after the Mother Superior song Little Motor Sister and got together the day before the party to rehearse in Ian's jam room. The energy in the room was amazing, Ian says. It felt awesome. It was just something we did for fun and to celebrate my birthday.

The minute I started to play with Scott, Joey and John the chemistry was amazing, Wilson says. We sounded like a band that had been together forever. Enthralled at the idea of making a record of his favorite Mother Superior songs, Ian contacted producer Jay Ruston (Anthrax, Steel Panther, Stone Sour) and asked if he thought it was possible to recapture the same spontaneous energy generated at their makeshift gig. He said, 'Yeah, we can make the record in two days and we can make it sound really good.' So that's what we did, Ian says. A week and a half later, we made the record in LA over a two day period. We recorded the whole thing live in the studio.

While everyone in Motor Sister is busy with their day jobs, they are all interested in playing live as much as possible. We are a great live band Ian says. We proved it to ourselves in my jam room. It was our ability to play live together that made this happen and I can see us getting onstage and playing this shit back-to-back, Ramones-style, and just blowing people's minds with the power of these songs. And the door is always open to write more material because Pearl and Jim are always working together and I'm always with them. So we'll see what happens in the future.

Love Somebody Today is the fourth studio album by the R&B vocal group Sister Sledge. The album includes three singles: Got to Love Somebody, Reach Your Peak, and Let's Go on Vacation, which all charted on the US Pop and R&B/Soul charts from late 1979 until 1980.

The first was Got to Love Somebody released in 1979 peaked at number six on the R&B/Soul charts. In 1980, The second single Reach Your Peak was released; peaking at #101 on the US Pop charts and #21 on the R&B/Soul charts.

    We Are The Ones

Produced by Grammy®, Emmy® and Oscar® winning song writer, Damon Ranger, We Are the Ones crackles with modern energy, from the call-to-arms manifesto of "Rule the World," to the anthemic bonding of "So What" to the intensely synth driven "Close to You," to the thematically soaring "Superhero". Another significant highlight of the album is a newly re-recorded acoustic version of "We're Not Gonna Take It" which has also been tapped as the official anthem for The Recording Academy's advocacy efforts, including the "Fair Play Fair Pay" Act.

Recently performed in Washington D.C. at the annual GRAMMYs On the Hill event, a video of the song premiered earlier this year on Entertainment Weekly's website. Also featured on the album is an explosive cover of Nine Inch Nails' "Head Like A Hole." "I always thought it was a great song, a powerful song," DEE explains, "I can't wait to do that one live. Like 'We're Not Gonna Take It' is iconic, 'Head Like a Hole' is iconic for that era."
