    Allen Stone (Awaiting Repress)

From backwoods barbecues and community gatherings, Allen Stone emerges to share personal melodies, telling tales of life after just 24 years. Originally getting his start singing at his father's church in small-town America, Stone's intense passion for music was instantly ignited by the great soul music of Marvin Gaye and Aretha Franklin, and eventually by the confessional lyrical fashion of the '60s-'70s singer/songwriters.

Since releasing his self-titled album digitally in early 2012, Stone has sold more than 16,000 units at iTunes completely independent of a label. ATO Records is now presenting Allen Stone's eponymous album for the first time in physical form. In addition to the original 10-song set, this vinyl edition from ATO also includes a bonus 10 featuring exclusive new tracks recorded live-in-the-studio at Robert Lang Studios in Seattle, WA and live at the Troubadour in Los Angeles, CA.

    The Sea of Memories

Multi-platinum rock band Bush return with their highly anticipated new album, The Sea of Memories. Recorded with producer Bob Rock (Aerosmith, Metallica), The Sea of Memories is the seminal bands first studio release in 10 years. The album captures the electricity and trademark intensity of classic Bush delivered in a setting thats fresh and alive. Songs like The Sound of Winter, Heart of the Matter and All Night Doctors are propelled by heavy guitar and hypnotic beats, simple song structures and sublime textures.

About the album, Rossdale says, When making music, you have a choice to repeat what youve done or move on. It wouldve been safe to just rework (1994s debut album) Sixteen Stone over and over, but what kind of life would that be? When youre driving down the road, youre focused on whats in front of you; you dont really think to keep checking in your rear view mirror. I like the idea of art changing, developing and morphing.

    The Funky 16 Corners

Stones Throw Records presents a glimpse into the lives and music of 16 unsung heroes of the late 60s and early 70s' funk revolution from each corner of the United States. These are musicians that strove to achieve the success of The Meters and James Brown, musicians that played their instruments with a gut-wrenching power unheard in modern music, musicians that testified on wax and have resurfaced some thirty years after disappearing from the music scene. The intensity of their recordings has not lost one ounce of soul with the time passed. Now, finally, the meticulously researched The Funky 16 Corners stands as an historical document to this era in American music.

The Science Of Things (Awaiting Repress)

For their third album, The Science of Things, Bush returned to Clive Langer and Alan Winstanley, the Madness producers who helmed Sixteen Stone, but along the way, they fell out with the duo. Rossdale claimed the two were only credited on the album for legal reasons, and that the real work was done by the band with engineer Tom Elmhirst, which is probably true, since it's slicker than Razorblade Suitcase but doesn't glisten like Stone. Science is carefully crafted and sequenced, flowing nicely from hard rockers to power ballads, but little of it catches hold. It plays better than the disjointed Razorblade Suitcase due to studiocraft, since the measured, detailed production fleshes out songs held together by a bare minimum of hooks and melodies. Without hooks, Bush's earnestness is unavoidable. Rossdale's emotive, gut-wrenching vocals and the band's hard, heavy delivery are all this record has to offer and the mystery is why the music has such little impact, either as emotional catharsis (which it was intended to be, if the tenor of the performances and Rossdale's interviews are to be believed) or as catchy commercial hard rock (which is what the best moments of their first two records were). In an effort to develop their own voice and to be taken seriously, Bush have left behind their natural strengths -- a knack for melodic hooks and riffs. They're undoubtedly sincere and have delivered a professional record, but once The Science of Things is finished it fades away, since it has neither the emotional nor musical substance to make a lasting impact.

    High On You

    Import

Sly Stone is a songwriter and record producer, mostly famous for his role as frontman for Sly and the Family Stone. The band played a critical role in the development of soul, funk, rock, and psychedelics in the 1960s and '70s.

Sly Stone was identified as a musical prodigy at a young age. By the time he was seven, Sylvester had already become proficient on the keyboards and by the age of eleven he had mastered the guitar, bass, and drums as well. While still in high school, Sylvester had settled primarily on the guitar and joined a number of high school bands.

The most talented musician I know is Sly Stone, Bootsy Collins told Mojo magazine (March 2002 issue). He's more talented than anybody I ever have seen - he's amazing. I worked with him in Detroit from 1981 to '83, and to see him just fooling around, playing, jamming, is a whole other trip. He's the most amazing musician.

In 1993 he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the group.

High On You (1975) is the first solo album by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Sly Stone. For the most part, Stone performed a large part of the instrumentation for each song on his own by using multi-tracking. The album prominently features vocalist Rudy Love and includes the singles I Get High on You, Le Lo Li and Crossword Puzzle.

The Minimal Wave Tapes Vol. 2

Minimal Wave is both a genre of underground DIY electronic music from North America and Europe in the late 1970s and 80s, and the name of the label devoted to unearthing these recordings. The Minimal Wave Tapes is the first official anthology of Minimal Wave music from this label. Most of the songs were originally released on limited edition cassettes or vinyl by the artists themselves, and only a handful of people knew about them. Theyve been remastered from their analog source tapes and compiled here by Minimal Wave's Veronica Vasicka and Stones Throw's Peanut Butter Wolf.

The Minimal Wave musical genre was hallmarked by the use of the analog synths and drum machines manufactured in the '70s and '80s, and characterized by simple music structures made by musicians working in the early D.I.Y. asthetic: recording on tape in their home studios, creating their own album artwork, and often collaborating via postage mail. The fanzine CLEM (Contact List Of Electronic Musicians) was very influential in creating a worldwide community for this sort of music, before digital technology and the internet came into play.

Minimal Wave the label was founded in New York City in 2005 by Veronica Vasicka, who focused the label solely on obscure Minimal Wave recordings, remastering and releasing them on limited vinyl and digitally.

The Minimal Waves Tapes fits neatly into Stones Throw Records' own tradition of compiling or reissuing the independent music of the past which influences the independent music we make today ie '60s funk (The Funky 16 Corners), early '80s hip-hop (The Third Unheard) and West Coast electro/rap (Arabian Prince's Innovative Life) to name a few. Featuring 14-tracks on gatefold 2LP.

    Sine And Moon

In the summer of 2011, while prepping his debut album Twirligig, Jonti put together the Sine & Moon Mix for the Stones Throw podcast, a collection of earlier songs he'd recorded on 4-track. In the months since the mixtape, he's been hit up with requests for the individual tracks, and so Sine & Moon (the album) came about. But then the album took another turn. Jonti revisited the songs, mixed and mastered them anew. Now you can enjoy these songs on vinyl as an official Stones Throw release. Includes download card.

"People liked the songs on the Sine And Moon podcast, so I wanted to get them out. So I turned it into an album with extra's, new mixes and original Jeff Jank artwork. I really love these songs and I hope you enjoy!" - Jonti

12 x 5 by The Rolling Stones was their October 1964 release that told the world that they loved the blues and rock 'n roll. The evolution from blues to rock accelerated on this, their second American LP. 12 X 5 included material recorded by the Stones at Chicago's Chess Studios (home to the band's idols Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf) during their first US tour. Though this album of the group's early R&B period kicks off with covers from unsurprising sources (Chuck Berry's Around and Around,) Mick and Keith waste little time in displaying their own compositional acumen.

This highly collectible lithograph and LP set, with a Certificate of Authenticity, is offered on a first-come, first-served basis-no additional copies will be produced after the initial press run is exhausted. Signatures on the printing plates reflect the band's personnel at the time of recording.

Ranked 370/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Jefferson Airplane's sixth album Volunteers was released in 1969, a mere two years since their monumental psychedelic hippie rock album Surrealistic Pillow. A politically charged album, Volunteers mainly dealt with the injustice of the Vietnam war.

Besides its lyrical content causing controversy, the album was ahead of its time on a technological level as well. At the time, Volunteers was one of the first albums to be recorded on a state-of-the-art sixteen track tape recorder, a picture of which can be seen on the backside of the album sleeve.

Musical collaborators include Stephen Stills and David Crosby. Volunteers is a crucial Jefferson record that ranks among the top albums of this seminal San Francisco psychedelic rock group.

    Look Up

It can be far too easy to get caught in negativity in today's world. We're surrounded by it in the news, the media and even entertainment. And that's what makes Mod Sun's music and message all the more refreshing.

"It's about empowerment. It's about saying it's okay to sit by yourself on a Friday night and make music. You'll never be lonely if you love the person you're alone with," says the rapper, whose name stands for "Movement On Dreams Stand Under None."

A Minnesota native, Mod grew up in a household that played everything from Bob Dylan to Prince, and that eclectic foundation has informed his musical journey. He started playing drums at age 13, and by 16, he began touring with a few bands, including the successful rock group Four Letter Lie.

But his heart told him to go after something else.

"I was in a state of comfort, touring and in a band, and I decided I wanted to totally change it up and do something I believed in," the 27-year-old remembers.

So he gave up that steady gig to pick up the mic. Mod wrote his first song at age 19, and hasn't looked back since. Over the last eight years, he has released six mixtapes and three EPs. He has collaborated with artists including Schoolboy Q, Nipsey Hussle and G-Eazy, and earned a spot as one of sixteen independent artists from around the world competing for the cover of Rolling Stone in 2011.

After his most recent release, 2012's Happy As Fuck, he again proved his artistic versatility, by momentarily shifting his writing focus in a new direction: His book, Did I Ever Wake Up?

"It's all about the fact of making your life a dream," he says of the inspirational work. "I was a stubborn kid. You can never learn if you're always right. It took all these things for me to become what I want to be."

Now, the focus is again squarely on the music. He's built plenty of momentum over the last year, thanks to videos for tracks like "My Hippy, "Free Love" and "Mushrooms." And now, Mod is getting ready to deliver his Friend Base - because he has no fans, only friends - his debut album, which is due at the top of 2015, through Rostrum Records.

The music has grown, but the underlying message remains.
"No matter the amount of negativity you're presented with, 5 minutes from now could be your best moment."

    Post Pop Depression (Deluxe)

    Includes 16 Page Booklet

A lot of geezers my age don't work out of their comfort zone anymore because once you become legendary you don't want people challenging you." - Iggy Pop

Post Pop Depression is IGGY POP's new, studio album, produced by Joshua Homme (Queens of the Stone Age and Eagles of Death Metal). The 17th Iggy Pop album, and a worthy addition to the 22 album legacy spawned with the immortal trilogy of The Stooges, Fun House and Raw Power, spanning massively influential solo outings including 1977's opening 1-2 combo of The Idiot and Lust For Life, and 1990's gold-certified Brick By Brick.

The first Iggy Pop album co-created with producer Homme, Post Pop Depression began with a succinctly worded text from Iggy to Joshua, and was realized in seclusion with Homme's enlisted aid of his Queens Of The Stone Age bandmate and Dead Weather-man Dean Fertitia and Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders.

Post Pop Depression is a singular work that stands proudly alongside the best works of either of its principles, from The Stooges to Queens Of The Stone Age, bearing its creators' undeniable sonic DNA while sounding like nothing they've done before. It's a record that wouldn't exist without either Pop or Homme-and one that probably shouldn't in theory if you really think about it-but it does, and we and rock n roll are all the better for it.

By the time Cream formed in 1966, Eric Clapton was already fairly well known, having already performed and recorded with the Yardbirds and John Mayalls Bluesbreakers. However, it was in Cream that Clapton became a global superstar. Breaking free of the traditional rock & roll song structure for a more improvisational / jazz influenced take, the bands long jams gave birth to a whole new approach to rock music. When their debut album Fresh Cream was released in 1966 it immediately became the standard by which all other bands of the era were judged. Includes 5 bonus tracks.
