"Sleater-Kinney is America's best rock band" - Greil Marcus, Time (2001)

Sleater-Kinney is an acclaimed, American rock band that formed in
Olympia, Washington in 1994. The band's core lineup consists of Corin
Tucker (vocals and guitar), Carrie Brownstein (guitar and vocals), and
Janet Weiss (drums). Sleater-Kinney were known for their feminist,
left-leaning politics, and were an integral part of the riot grrrl and indie
rock scenes in the Pacific Northwest.

The Woods is the seventh and final studio album from Sleater-Kinney,
released on May 24, 2005 by Sub Pop. It was produced by Dave
Fridmann and recorded from November 2004 to December 2004 at
Tarbox Road Studios in Cassadaga, New York.

The Woods reached #80 on the US Billboard Top 200 chart and #2
on the Independent Albums chart. The album appeared at number four
in The Village Voice's "Pazz & Jop" critics' poll for 2005.

"They bash Eighties nostalgia, tell a feminist fairy tale and even quiet
down for a couple sensitive love songs - needed breaks from music so
intense you wonder how they can contain its explosiveness." [100 Best

"To survive these days, you have to be either suicidal or superficial.
Sleater-Kinney, meanwhile, get by simply sounding fucking supersonic."

    No Cities To Love

6-Panel Gatefold With 4-Page Insert And Custom Dust Sleeve

We sound possessed on these songs, says guitarist/vocalist Carrie
Brownstein about Sleater-Kinney's eighth studio album, No Cities to Love.
Willing it all - the entire weight of the band and what it means to us - back
    into existence.

The new record is the first in 10 years from the acclaimed trio - Brownstein,
vocalist/guitarist Corin Tucker, and drummer Janet Weiss - who came
crashing out of the '90s Pacific Northwest riot grrrl scene, setting a new bar
for punk's political insight and emotional impact. Formed in Olympia, WA in
1994, Sleater-Kinney were hailed as America's best rock band by Greil
Marcus in Time Magazine, and put out seven searing albums in 10 years
before going on indefinite hiatus in 2006.

But the new album isn't about reminiscing, it's about reinvention, the
ignition of an unparalleled chemistry to create new sounds and tell new
stories. I always considered Corin and Carrie to be musical soulmates,
says Weiss, whose drums fuel the fire of Tucker and Brownstein's vocal and
guitar interplay. Something about taking a break brought them closer,
desperate to reach together again for their true expression. The result is a
record that grapples with love, power and redemption without restraint.

Produced by longtime Sleater-Kinney collaborator John Goodmanson, who
helmed many of the band's earlier albums including 1997 breakout set Dig
Me Out, No Cities to Love is indeed formidable from the first beat.
Sleater-Kinney's decade apart made room for family and other fruitful
collaborations, as well as an understanding of what the band's singular
chemistry demands. Sleater-Kinney isn't something you can do half-assed
or half-heartedly," says Brownstein. "This band requires a certain
desperation, a direness. We have to be willing to push because the entity
that is this band will push right back.

The core of this record is our relationship to each other, to the music, and
how all of us still felt strongly enough to about those to sweat it out in the
basement and to try and reinvent our band, adds Tucker. With No Cities to
Love, we went for the jugular.

    -ALL MUSIC GUIDE

Jones lets a little light in, if only
to show how dark the world can be.
    -PITCHFORK

Based in Nashville, but raised in a coal miner's company house on the banks of
Buffalo Creek, WV, Stone Jack Jones is the descendant of four generations of
coal miners. After being rejected from military service in Vietnam due to
epilepsy, and discouraged from pursuing the coal mining business, Jack decided
to start wandering. By the time he landed in Nashville, where he met Roger
Moutenot, Patty Griffin, and Kurt Wagner, Jack had worked as a carny, an escape
artist, a ballet dancer, a professional lute player, and even owned a strip club.

Ancestor was produced in collaboration with Roger Moutenot (known for his
work with Yo La Tengo, Sleater Kinney, and many others), and features contributions by Patty Griffin, and Lambchop members Ryan Norris, Scott Martin, and
Kurt Wagner. Intensely meditative, the album patiently explores the hardness of
the coal mines, the mystery of suicide, the comfort of a dog's acceptance, the
idea that forgetting all you know can be the first step towards hearing and
reconnecting with your muse, and one man's gratitude for the love he's been
given and the life he's had the chance to live.

"More importantly, the Catalonian quartet play with an unshakable conviction and
a lack of self-consciousness, recording straight-to-tape, letting the harmonies bleed
together and drums play at maxed-out levels." - Pitchfork

"Their first song for the label, "Silver Gold", is a sludgy track, drowning in slippery
distortion and Pixies-esque fire." - Impose Magazine

"Jazz Rodriguez Bueno, Carla Perez Vas, Antonio Postius and Leia Rodriguez pierce
the surface with unified cries, screams and howls that seize attention in a flash."-
    DIY Magazine

MOURN is a very young quartet formed from the friendship of Jazz Rodríguez Bueno and
Carla PÉrez Vas- both born in 1996 in El Maresme, Catalonia, Spain. The duo armed themselves
with inspiration from PJ Harvey, Patti Smith, Sebadoh and Sleater Kinney and began
writing material, which they quickly released, raw and acoustic, on their YouTube channel.
These recordings caught the attention of their homeland's Sones Records. Despite being
teenagers, earlier this year they came out of the studio (along with drummer Antonio Postius
and bassist Leia Rodríguez) with a brilliant treatise of indie rock that has stunned those who
have had the opportunity to listen to it. Jazz (18), Carla (18), Leia (15) and Antonio (18) came
together to present these tracks with authenticity and self-awareness beyond their age. With
the confidence only residing in youth, the Mourn debut was recorded live in the studio in
two days, proof of which is in their live-in-the-studio videos for singles "Otitis" and "YourBrain
is Made of Candy." Both tracks perfectly capture the bands' affinity for the brevity of The
Ramones with the lyrical and melodic sophistication of The Pixies.

Blue Giant is the creation of Kevin and Anita Robinson, better known as Portland indie-pop darlings Viva Voce. The Robinson's new band features Chris Funk (The Decemberists), Evan Railton (Swords) and Seth Lorinczi (The Golden Bears). On their self-titled debut, produced by Kevin, Blue Giant combine the traditional sounds of American music, country, bluegrass and folk, with driving, straight-ahead rock n roll. The 12 tracks on the album, all written by Kevin and Anita, showcase that versatility from the classic country feel of "Lonely Girl," to the melodic guitars in "Clean The Clock," to the mellow, deceptively simple "Gone For Good" which features Sleater-Kinney's Corin Tucker.

    Within And Without

Washed Out is the operational alias for Atlanta, GAs Ernest Greene, and their first full-length, Within and Without will be released via Sub Pop Records. Greene recorded Within and Without with Ben Allen, who, among a great many other things, co-produced Animal Collectives Merriweather Post Pavillion, Gnarls Barkleys St. Elsewhere and Deerhunters Halcyon Digest.

In 2009, Washed Out released two critically-acclaimed EPs; Life of Leisure (Mexican Summer) and High Times (Mirror Universe Tapes). Most recently, the Washed Out song Feel It All Around, from Life of Leisure, was chosen as the theme song for the new and very funny IFC series Portlandia, which features Saturday Night Live cast member Fred Armisen and Sleater-Kinney/Sub Pop alum and current Wild Flag member Carrie Brownstein.

    Zoo

Ceremony is a punk band from Rohnert Park, CA, just outside of San Francisco. Their three albums on the Deathwish and Bridge 9 labels are widely seen as the most compelling, unusual and progressive hardcore of the last five years. For their Matador debut Zoo, produced by John Goodmanson (Blood Brothers, Sleater-Kinney, Girls, Weezer), the band have refined their jagged sound while continuing to pursue themes of exurban alienation and confinement.

Zoo explores punk and post-punk traditions: the rhythm section remains as tense and propulsive as ever, while guitarist Anthony Anzaldo moves with ease from ringing power chords to stealthy leads reminiscent of Gang of Four and The Cramps. Ross Farrars future primitive vocals sometimes recall Pink Flag or Metal Box, ranging from a melodic howl to a muttered incantation. The result is gripping and indelible.

    Life Without Sound

Dylan Baldi maintains simple, admirable standards in quality. "A thing I like to do with all of my records is drive around with them," the 25-year-old Cloud Nothings frontman says. "In high school, I would listen to music for hours like that: just driving through the suburbs of Cleveland. And if it sounds good to me in that context and I can think of high school me listening to it and saying, 'That's okay,' I feel good about the record. This is the one that's felt best."

"This" is Life Without Sound, the radiant, far-far-better-than-okay fourth full-length his rock outfit has recorded since he began writing and releasing songs on his own under the Cloud Nothings alias in 2008. While its highly acclaimed predecessor-2014's Here and Nowhere Else-came together spontaneously, in the little time that touring allowed, Life Without Sound took shape under far less frenetic circumstances.

For more than a year, Baldi was able to write these songs and flesh out them out with his bandmates-drummer Jayson Gerycz and bassist TJ Duke-before they finally joined producer John Goodmanson (Sleater Kinney, Death Cab for Cutie) at Sonic Ranch in El Paso, Texas, for three weeks in March of 2016. The result is Baldi's most polished and considered work to date, an album that speaks to his evolving gift with melody while also betraying the sort of perspective that time provides. You can hear it in the aerodynamic guitar pop of "Modern Act," and feel it in the devastating wisdom of "Internal World," a lullaby-like howler that dwells on "the fact that being yourself can be uncomfortable and even potentially dangerous at times."

"Generally, it seems like my work has been about finding my place in the world," Baldi says. "But there was a point in which I realized that you can be missing something important in your life, a part you didn't realize you were missing until it's there-hence the title. This record is like my version of new age music," he adds. "It's supposed to be inspiring."

    Beyond The Bloodhounds

Adia Victoria spent the last few years writing, recording, touring and performing, while entrenched in the infamous artist R&R world - restaurants and retail work. Day jobs at a laundry list of Nashville it and not so it spots gave the musician lots of people watching time as well as the mental and emotional space to marinate in her art.

Adia blows the social hush-hush lid off the mental and emotional state of a young black woman growing up under the poverty line in the Deep South and all the implications of such. No pretense. No jive. But also, like the writing of Eudora Welty and Tennessee Williams, there is plenty of Southern Gothic styled, marrow deep joy.

In a recent feature story, Fader encouraged us to, Meet Adia Victoria, A Poet Making Country Music a Little Creepier. She is found in album cuts like Sea of Sand and Stuck in the South, revealing some of her place-based aha moments. In the latter, she notes, I don't know nothin' about Southern belles/ But I can tell you something about Southern hell. As songs like Head Rot, and first single Dead Eyes show us, Adia says, it's an album of falling in love, dealing with loss, confusion, anger, love, and loving myself.

Produced by Roger Moutenot (Yo La Tengo, Sleater Kinney) and the artist herself, recorded at Nashville, Tennessee's Haptown Studios, Beyond the Bloodhounds features the indelible lyrics, voice, and guitar solos of Adia Victoria along with a band of talented musicians including Tiffany Minton (Drums), Alex Caress (keys), Mason Hickman (guitar), and Jason Harris (bass). She recalls, the studio is a Music City treasure. It used to be a car repair shop. You walk in and there are no windows. It's dark and moody. It feels like walking into the mind.

The result of a lifetime of introspection and a younger self marked by silent observation, Adia Victoria's Beyond the Bloodhounds was three active, recording years in the making. The title pays homage to a line in Harriet Jacobs' Narrative in the Life of a Slave Girl.

Ultimately, Victoria's debut album is more both/and, than either/or. The complexity of her Southern, barrel-aged roots and world traveling, bookworm woman ways will lure you out of the status quo.

Publications like American Songwriter, Rookie, and NPR are taking notice.

Now on the brink of her 30s, fluent in the language of her own self, Adia Victoria stands poised to take her place in a line of true artists. Her mother warned that she feels too much and would be torn up by the world. Adia will tell you that proved to be true. I've felt shredded, but I'm now blessed to embrace the intense feelings as part of my job. That's what I do. It's my bread and butter. My art depends on me feeling and experiencing. I show up, live, and come back and say, oooooh Honey, it was like this...

Some Days Are Better Than Others

Temporary Residence has waited with eager anticipation to release Matthew Coopers spellbinding soundtrack to Some Days Are Better Than Others since before his creative breakthrough album, Similes (released under his more widely known Eluvium moniker) was even made. The film stars James Mercer (Broken Bells, The Shins) and Carrie Brownstein (Portlandia, Sleater-Kinney) as strangers whose lives occasionally intersect as they navigate their way through the struggles of personal attachment and disconnection.

When viewing the film, Cooper observed themes being presented regarding our throw-away society, and realized that both he and Some Days Are Better Than Others director Matt McCormick shared a common interest in this world of things left behind and the emotional baggage that is connected to it, whether broken or simply tossed aside for something new; something once considered the future, turning into antiquated rubble. Cooper decided that using a collection of damaged instruments would be a fitting way to underscore this aspect of the film.

A long-time collector of odds and ends and junked musical instruments, Cooper has amassed an impressive array of thrift store and garage sale keyboards, foot pedals, and electronics over the years, always hoping to discover the ghosts hidden within and the unique properties they may possess.

    Wild Flag

Wild Flag is a Portland, Oregon and Washington, DC based quartet consisting of Carrie Brownstein, Rebecca Cole, Mary Timony and Janet Weiss. The members of Wild Flag have played in numerous and notable bands including Sleater-Kinney, Helium, Quasi, The Minders, Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks, and others.

The four musicians who make up Wild Flag have known one another for well over a decade; playing together felt almost inevitable. Brownstein and Weiss were in Sleater-Kinney and toured with Timonys band Helium on numerous occasions. Brownstein and Timony played in a side project called The Spells. Rebecca Coles Portland-based band The Minders was a frequent opener for Sleater-Kinney. Weiss and Cole play together in the 1960s garage-rock cover band The Shadow Mortons. After collaborating on a score for a documentary, the ease with which they worked together proved infectious and promising. Wild Flag was formed.

In April of 2011, they went to Sacramento, California, where they recorded their self-titled album with engineer Chris Woodhouse at the Hangar. All tracks were recorded live except for the vocals.

    Call the Doctor

"Sleater-Kinney is America's best rock band" - Greil Marcus, Time (2001)

Sleater-Kinney is an acclaimed, American rock band that formed in
Olympia, Washington in 1994. The band's core lineup consists of Corin
Tucker (vocals and guitar), Carrie Brownstein (guitar and vocals), and
Janet Weiss (drums). Sleater-Kinney were known for their feminist,
left-leaning politics, and were an integral part of the riot grrrl and indie
rock scenes in the Pacific Northwest.

Call the Doctor is Sleater-Kinney's second studio album. It was produced
by John Goodmanson and released on March 25, 1996 by Chainsaw
Records. The album is often considered to be Sleater-Kinney's first
proper album because Tucker and co-vocalist and guitarist Carrie
Brownstein left their previous bands, Heavens to Betsy and Excuse 17,
at the time of its recording. The line-up featured Corin Tucker (vocals,
guitar), Carrie Brownstein (guitar, vocals) and Lora Macfarlane (drums,
    vocals).

Call the Doctor appeared at number three in The Village Voice's "Pazz
& Jop" critics' poll for 1996. In 2010, the album was ranked number
49 in the list of the 100 greatest albums of the nineties by the editors
    of Rolling Stone.

"Trades sex-worker role-playing, doll parts, gender-bending, and other
common female-rock tropes for stories of everyday struggle [...]
Sleater-Kinney proves that punk still offers new ways to say no - Johnny
    Ray Huston, SPIN

The album has been freshly remastered by Greg Calbi for this release.
This reissue coincides with Sub Pop's release of
remastered versions of Sleater-Kinney's six other albums, as well as a
limited-edition, deluxe vinyl box set featuring all seven albums.

    Constant Future

Constant Future is the career-defining statement from Brooklyn-based noise-pop trio Parts & Labor. The albums 12 tracks deliver the bare essentials that made them sui generis totems of modern art-punk: synthesized keyboard riffs distorted into oblivion, percussion pummeled hypnotically, crackling drones that haunt and soothe, fearless melodies hollered skyward. Their last release, 2008s acclaimed Receivers, saw Parts & Labor blasting off in all directions and creating collage art from hundreds of fan-curated samples. But fifth album Constant Future finds them crashing back to earth, focusing pointedly on what they do best: unique, electronic landscapes melded with buzzing, anthemic hooks. Parts & Labor have distilled the lessons and experiences of nearly 10 years as a band into a catchy, blown-out masterwork.

Maximalist engineer Dave Fridmann (Flaming Lips, Mogwai, Sleater-Kinney, MGMT) co-produced and mixed the album with P&L at his Tarbox Road Studios in Casadega, NY. A band already known for their dense, futuristic sound was ultimately transformed into something massive, beaming, downright nuclear. The album is the product of two years of vigorous writing and demoing which resulted in more than 40 songs. For the actual recording, Parts & Labor settled in a former boxing ring in Milwaukee to track the record themselves, with drummer Joe Wong leading the charge.

Over Constant Future's 39 minutes, vocalists Dan Friel and BJ Warshaw steadfastly chronicle several whirlwind years of growth, taking lyrical cues from the artful work of their musical heroes (Sonic Youth, Lungfish, Fugazi,Wire). The pair weave tales of teeth-baring city-scapes (Fake Names, Echo Chamber), the anxiety of death (Rest, Never Changer) and the horrifying pitfalls of our nascent century (Outnumbered, Skin And Bones). But, as their sunny refrains would imply, theres always a glimmer of hope, acceptance and love buried just beneath Parts & Labors paranoid surface (Without A Seed, Hurricane, A Thousand Roads).

    The Summer of the Shark

    First Time Pressed To Vinyl

    LP Pressed To White Vinyl

Portastatic's The Summer of the Shark will be available for the first time on vinyl
as part of a monthly series of reissues to mark the 25th anniversary of Merge
    Records.

Mac McCaughan, co-founder of Merge Records and frontman of the band
Superchunk, began recording solo albums under the name Portastatic in the
early '90s. Beginning with this album, Portastatic evolved from a lo-fi side
project to become McCaughan's main focus throughout Superchunk's long
    hiatus in the early '00s.

McCaughan wrote the songs on The Summer of the Shark in 2001 while
Superchunk was on tour in support of Here's to Shutting Up, which was
released mere days after the September 11 attacks and would be the band's
last studio album for nine years. The resulting batch of songs was the last
Portastatic album recorded almost entirely at home; it was also the most
emotionally resonant, and musically compact collection to date.

Upon the album's release, then Chicago Tribune reporter John Cook wrote
of the album: "It is the most effective and moving musical answer yet to what
has happened to us over the last two years. Faced with an enormous
catastrophe, McCaughan elected to make a small record. There are no heroes
rushing up stairwells and no dissections of good and evil-only scared,
    confused people and local heartbreaks."

Recorded at McCaughan's home studio in Chapel Hill, The Summer of the
Shark included contributions from Janet Weiss (Wild Flag, Quasi, Sleater-Kinney), Tony Crow (Lambchop), Margaret White (Versus, Matt Pond PA),
Matthew McCaughan (Bon Iver, Hiss Golden Messenger), Aaron Oliva, and
    John Plymale.

    At Best Cuckold

Embarking upon a sophomore effort can be a daunting task for any young upstart, and there's no denying Avi Buffalo's own bar was set quite high with 2010's celebrated eponymous debut. Fear not, there's nothing in this tale about The Second Album-a.k.a. At Best Cuckold, due September 8th in Europe and September 9th in North America on Sub
Pop-that even remotely resembles a slump; in fact, it would be entirely appropriate to say that this Long Beach, California, enterprise is getting better with age.

Ah, yes, age-much was made of it when Avi Buffalo's first album hit, and for good reason: While their Millikan High School classmates were preoccupied with quaint and youthful pursuits, the musicians behind Avi Buffalo were busy making an off-kilter pop gem that eventually bowled over NME, The AV Club, Pitchfork, the BBC, and numerous other outlets on both sides of the Atlantic.

The creation of At Best Cuckold turned out to be a three-year journey; a stretch of time that resembles its predecessor. While transitioning from teenager to twentysomething and traversing the interpersonal wilds which accompany that age, Avi kept playing music, collaborated with and produced several friends (including Kevin Litrow's N.O.W. project and
Douglas James Sweeney's Arjuna Genome), and even started DJing. He also wrote new songs, and by the time 2013 rolled around, it was time to begin capturing his latest sparks-with that, the band headed into the studio on New Year's Day.

At Best Cuckold was recorded at Tiny Telephone, the analog-friendly San Francisco studio run by John Vanderslice (whose Bowie tribute Avi contributed to), and engineered by Jay Pellicci (The Dodos, Deerhoof, Sleater-Kinney). Avi then built on the "clean and tight" recordings from Tiny Telephone with analog and digital overdubs, and completed the
record with Nicolas Vernhes at Rare Book Room studio in Brooklyn. The result is a quirky yet comforting set of songs driven by refined pop songcraft and sneaky moments of grandeur that stick in the brain. Classic-sounding melodies are delivered with a modern sensibility, creating an album that's equal parts timely and timeless. Well-placed piano, sax, clarinet, French horn, and cornet further enhance the proceedings with a glorious orch-pop sheen.

At the ripe old age of 23, Avi Buffalo is ready to take on the world (again), armed with all of the experience he's compiled over the past few years. And he's made sure the second time around will be just as memorable as the first.

    Out In The Storm

Recorded With John Agnello (Dinosaur Jr, Sonic Youth)

LP Housed In A Matte Jacket With Silver Foil Detail

    Includes A 12 x 24" Printed Poster Insert

Out in the Storm is the blazing result of a woman reawakened. Her mostautobiographical and honest album to date, Out in the Storm is a self-reflective anchorin the story of both Katie Crutchfield's songwriting and her life. The album tells thestory of taking control of a volatile situation, embracing flaws, and exploring a newsonic freedom.

The album was tracked at Miner Street Recordings in Philadelphia with John Agnello, known for working with some of the most iconic musicians of the last 25 years, including Dinosaur Jr. and Sonic Youth. For Agnello, it was Crutchfield's voice thatdrew him in. "The first demo song I heard was 'Fade'. The melodies, the way she singsit, the way she turns the melody, and the way she goes note to note is literally beautiful.Singers-you either have it or you don't. She has it." Agnello and Crutchfield workedtogether for most of December 2016, along with the band: sister Allison Crutchfieldon keyboards and percussion, Katherine Simonetti on bass, and Ashley Arnwine ondrums; Katie Harkin, touring guitarist with Sleater-Kinney, also contributed lead guitar. At Agnello's suggestion, the group recorded most of the music live to enhance theirunity in a way that gives the album a fuller sound compared to past releases, resultingin one of Waxahatchee's most guitar-driven releases to date. "My experience workingwith John was genuinely life-changing," says Crutchfield. "We had such a greatconnection right off the bat, and I really feel like he was always looking out for me. Hepushed me when I needed it, and gave me space when I needed it."

Crutchfield's voice oscillates between effortless grace and commanding righteousness, taking the listener with her on an explicitly personal journey. Songs like "Hear You"and "No Question" are lyrically unapologetic and musically resolute, while the softeracoustic songs like "A Little More" and "Fade" let fear and melancholy seep through. But it is on the atmospheric "Sparks Fly" where we feel an essential redemption."Sparks Fly" acts as an inner dialogue and marks the first time since the inception ofWaxahatchee that any semblance of self-love has shone through. This moment is aperspective we've yet to see from Crutchfield: it is a rediscovery of herself, and therealization of a full life she is completely worthy of. "It's about self-preservation, self-care,and reclaiming your autonomy," says Crutchfield. "When you find the things thatmake you happy, sometimes it's easier to see things that make you unhappy."
