DifferentologyOne of the leading artists in the ragga soca movement, Trinidadian soca superstar Bunji Garlin is also one of the genre's few crossover artists, having made an impact internationally with Major Lazer, the Soul Train Awards, and even the television show Greys Anatomy all in the mix. Born Ian Anthony Alvarez in Sangre Grande, Trinidad, he took his name by combining something flexible (a bungee cord) and forceful (Garlin being a type of gun) and kicked off his career just as a dancehall-influenced strain of soca music was taking hold. Known as ragga soca, the aggressive, digital genre fueled Garlin's 2000 debut, The Chronicles, a thoroughly modern album which also featured soca legend Alison Hinds. The singer would win Trinidad's Ragga Soca Monarch competition that same year, as well as the next, while 2002 saw him win the International Soca Monarch award and release his first album for the VP label, Revelation. In 2006 he made news with his marriage to fellow soca artist Fay-Ann Lyons, while 2007 saw him kick-off his international push with the aptly titled Global, an album that featured guest shots from reggae artists T.O.K. and Freddie McGregor. Bunji avoided releasing another album for years, but many of his singles turned into massive, influential hits, especially the 2013 release Differentology. The anthem was picked up by Major Lazer for a remix, was featured on an episode of the hit TV drama Greys Anatomy, and landed Bunji a nomination for Best International Performance at the 2013 Soul Train Awards.LP 1

The Casablanca's are aptly named for their classic good looks and commanding performance. They came about in response to repeated requests for a single-ended amp with the power to drive non-compliant or inefficient speakers. Given that large power SE amps are either run in pentode or using exotic power tubes, Ampsandsound opted for a push-pull based amp; a larger version of the Stereo 15.
The Casablanca's provide 60 watts with KT88/6550 power tubes, and 45 watts with EL-34s. Based on the Eico circuit and using a 12AX7/6SN7 front end allows access to a vast array of NOS/NIB tubes. The Casablanca's come with 8ohm and 4ohm taps and can be ordered with 16ohm taps if desired. To provide reliable power and a sweet sound, they turned to their design partners and carefully evaluated 2 new takes based on similar designs; the Eico HF97 and the Dynaco MKIII. They built both and did a shootout with the reigning king of push-pull amps, the McIntosh MC275.
The results were startling. The Eico based circuit was a clear improvement over their take on the MKIII, and was on par with the MC275. The Casablanca's provided extremely articulate bass, with truly remarkable mid and high frequency extension. The bottom line - this amp provides the warmth and detail that is expected from reference level push-pull amps, and nearly limitless personalization with different tube combinations. The tubes included with purchase are new Tungsol 12AX7, Tungsol 6SN7, and Tungsol 6550s.
They were recently asked what differentiates Ampsandsound Casablancas from any of the other well-made gear in the $2000-$3000 range. The answer is that there may be few differences, but the differences that do exist are pivotal to their approach to the reproduction of music. First off, many tube amplifiers in the Casablanca's price range have lower power. Other similar-price amplifiers are stereo amps, not providing the performance and channel separation for which mono-blocks are known.
They chose the Casablanca design to allow for the largest practical power supply. Also, mono-blocks require 40% more parts, and like all Ampsandsound components, the Casablancas utilize modern materials to bring a higher level of performance. This includes using 1-2% resistors instead of the less costly and more common 10% variety, and coupling capacitors with 5% tolerance instead of 20%. Point-to-point wiring would allow for streamlined building, but their PCB's provide superior grounding and noise isolation, with the result that they have realized and improved upon the sonic characteristics of the great amplifiers of the 50's and 60's.$4,395.00Mono Block Amplifier (Pair) Buy Now

The connection of the percussion ensemble with jazz/rock/popular music seems a logical one given the inclusion of various percussion instruments as integral parts of this music. The drumset, of course, was present from the beginning of jazz and rock. The vibraphon has long been a favorite jazz instrument and the xylophone was a favorite ragtime solo instrument in the early part of the 20th century. Ethnic percussion instruments from Latin America, Africa and other cultures have long been used in the jazz/rock/pop Idiom.

Super Bass (Out Of Stock)A tribute to Freddie Green. Musicians include Jeff Hamilton, Jeff Clayton, John Clayton and Freddie Green. Super Bass has been a dream of mine longer than I can remember. Back in 1945 I did One Bass Hit and in 1946 I did Two Bass Hit. All that time I had thoughts of doing the Triple and the Home Run. Well I guess Super Bass is a fulfillment to those two. First of all I had this young student that returned from studying at Indiana University as a complete wizard of the bass. He also was studying conducting and arranging and will be one of the top arrangers in the music business. His name is John Clayton and he is a major part of this album. The LP edition has been remastered by Doug Sax off the original master tapes through custom tube electronics. Pressing done by Quality Record Pressings on 200 gram of pure virgin vinyl. Science Vol. 5 (Out Of Stock)Bizzy B continues his journey into the darkside with four brand new tracks and the fifth installment of his Science EP series. Lead track Jah Works devastates dancefloors with its sub-bass depth charges and savage amen, lightened up with a dose of sweet dub vocals before crashing back in with Bizzy's famous edits and some choice rave stabs. Sound Test surprises with a little Soca guitar riff, while Flava brings some G-funk synth into the equation. The closer, Exceeding The Speed of Sound, beefs up the classic Bizzy sound to round out a nicely varied set.$12.9910'' Vinyl LP - 2 LPs Sealed Temporarily out of stock
