    Solaris OST Picture Disc

    First Time On Vinyl!

    Picture Disc

Second Cliff Martinez release from Invada following the success of 'Drive'. The soundtrack to the acclaimed 2002 Steven Soderbergh motion picture, starring George Clooney.

"It's one of the few scores I think holds up as a standalone listening experience, I think it made the greatest contribution to the film of any score that I've done."

    - Cliff Martinez

Hailed as one of the most influential modern soundtracks, this is a hugely important project for Invada, and they are proud to be continuing their relationship with Cliff Martinez after releasing the 'Drive' soundtrack last year.

This is the original soundtrack to the acclaimed 20th Century Fox motion picture 'Solaris', released in 2002, directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring George Clooney. Soderbergh says on Martinez's pivotal role and his score, I relied on it not only to unify the film emotionally, but to import actual narrative information.

Previously only released on CD, composer Cliff Martinez's ('Drive', 'Spring Breakers', 'Contagion', 'Traffic') strikingly atmospheric score will be released by Invada on customised black vinyl, white vinyl and picture disc with three different album artworks.

Described by BBC Music as A brooding slow, meditative work" and a musical journey that leaves the listener floating free by Soundtrack.net, 'Solaris' is a thoughtful, evocative and highly seductive score that still fully resonates with the listener more than a decade after it was first released.

Soundtrack culture is a growing phenomenon. A genre that's been widely overlooked (outside of specialist areas) for a considerable time is now, thanks to the continued work of labels like Invada (run by Portishead's Geoff Barrow alongside label boss Redg Weeks), very much on the ascent and impossible to ignore. More consumer awareness for these incredible works are resulting in record numbers of sales, whilst BBC 4 TV has just commenced broadcasting a new series exploring the history, development and importance of the soundtrack.

The soundtrack album is no longer reserved for cult aficionados, now it is becoming a 'must have' piece of art.

Cliff Martinez's 'Solaris' is one of these works.

In the late '80s, Eight-O-Eight State was at the forefront of England's still developing electronic music scene. Don Solaris, the group's first widely available album in more than four years, is something of a return for the group.

The music on this album is diverse, exploring many formats and styles. This album may upon first listen sound too much like a techno-rock crossover. But it is far from that - this music is foremost moody, deep, and full of risks.

An ambient piece begins the album, and runs into the industrial and heavy sounds of Bond. Vocals are featured on this track, as well as a string bass and harmonica, bell sounds and chimes.

Bird and Azura throw the listener into a more bass heavy and danceable space. Vocal samples and somewhat eerie sounds give Bird a very moody feel, while jamming drums assault the mind. Steel drums from the Caribbean soothe the ears, when drum and bass rhythms break in through the serenity, accompanied by the tense and beautiful vocals of Louise Rhodes from Lamb. A bass line ricochets between the steel drums and kick-drum punches, bouncing off the walls and the trees of this far-out hot jungle. 808 State continue their journey into pop dynamics, dance, jazz and electronic breathing with Black Dartangnon and Joyrider.

Balboa brings in tons of bass, perfect for those who love to feel it coming up from below, or like a wall of sound from speakers. If you love music, you'll enjoy Don Solaris. It was experimental in the right ways and well ahead of its time.

    What

    Introduction

Rega is very proud to introduce a brand new high performance integrated amplifier. Designed and engineered to the highest standard to deliver the best possible audio performance whilst remaining simple to use and easy to setup.

Our recent development work in amplifier design circuitry has allowed us to further advance the Elicit-R performance by using new and improved power amplifier circuits (based around the hugely successful Rega Brio-R amplifier). Combined with FET discrete line pre-amplifiers and a programmable stepped attenuator volume control ensuring greater levels of performance and control over the delivery of power. The Elicit-R is supplied with the new Solaris system remote handset offering full control over this and all of the current R range of electronics.

    Technology

The output amplifier used in the Elicit-R was born after extensive research by our engineers to develop a low source Class-A* driver stage. Based around a complementary pair of Darlington output transistors forming an emulated Class-A driver stage.

    Features

The Elicit-R includes a high quality built in moving magnet phono stage designed to maximise the potential of your vinyl system. A simple switch on the rear panel allows the same input to be switched to a secondary set at line level. This input is specially configured to offer further isolation and reduce noise. This makes it ideally suited for connection of more sensitive products such as an external MM or MC phono stage.

If your system is not vinyl based the same socket allows this line input to be used with any line level product (such as a CD player or DAC) ensuring maximised connectivity via the back panel. These features coupled with Polypropylene capacitors throughout the signal path, improved power supplies, increased output power to 100 watts per channel all housed in a brand new custom designed case combine to give the best performance Elicit to date.

*The design of the Elicit-R benefits greatly from running warm. To ensure best performance it is recommended to allow the unit to reach optimum temperature before critical listening.

    Drive Soundtrack (Out Of Stock)

    Opaque Gold Colored Vinyl

Various Artists with Original Motion Picture Score by Cliff Martinez. A Hollywood stunt performer who moonlights as a wheelman discovers that a contract has been put on him after a heist gone wrong.

The soundtrack features original music by Cliff Martinez (The Lincoln Lawyer, Traffic) with Eurosynth-styled songs by Kavinsky & Lovefoxxx (''Nightcall''), The Chromatics (''Tick of the Clock''), Desire (''Under Your Spell''), College featuring Electric Youth (''A Real Hero''), and Riziero Ortolani featuring Katyna Ranieri (''Oh My Love''). Rolling Stone Magazine named Drive the No. 1 movie of 2011.

The Drive soundtrack raced to the top of the iTunes album charts, hitting No. 4 within a week of its digital release and peaking at No. 35 on the Billboard Top 200. The soundtrack re-entered the charts in February 2012 when the film was released on DVD.

''One thing that was unique for me about this project was having songs exert such a strong influence on the score,'' said Martinez. ''That helped to create a unified, one-size-fits-all, style of soundtrack... the 80s electronic pop style made a lot of sense to me. I knew that Nicolas [Refn, director] was in love with that sound and I saw a way to acknowledge it with vintage synth sounds and cover most of the dramatic food groups while referencing that style.''

This blending of score and song is the perfect vehicle for Cliff Martinez. Martinez moved to California in 1976, just in time for the punk movement. He had stints as drummer for the Weirdos, Lydia Lunch and Foetus frontman Jim Thirlwell, the Red Hot Chili Peppers and the Dickies. He was also the drummer in the final incarnation of legendary iconoclasts Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band.

Martinez has since received compositional credit on many of Steven Soderbergh's projects including Kafka, The Limey, Solaris, Gray's Anatomy, Schizopolis, Traffic (which earned four Oscars and earned Martinez a Grammy nomination), and the upcoming film Contagion. He also composed the music for Espion(s) and A L'Origine, two French films released in 2009 - the latter earned a Cesar Award nomination for best original score. His other credits include Pump Up The Volume, Wicker Park, Wonderland, and The Lincoln Lawyer.
