    Song For Juli

The former Youngbloods lead singer's 1972 solo masterpiece... over one year on the Billboard Album chart!

While lead singer of The Youngbloods, Jesse Colin Young's legendary rock band took the nation by storm when their single Get Together became a worldwide #1 hit and a prominent soundtrack for peace. After seven albums with the group, Jesse released more than 15 celebrated solo albums including Song for Juli a work many critics agree is his solo masterpiece.

Although it was his fourth solo album, Song for Juli was Young's first full-fledged effort under his own name. Jesse organized a versatile backup band in which piano, violin, and horns complemented his beautiful tenor voice in arrangements that recalled Van Morrison's Caledonia Soul Orchestra and featured familiar blues, country, and Cajun elements. In his lyrics, Young hewed closely to the current back-to-the-land philosophy, celebrating his family life (Juli is his daughter) and his Ridgetop retreat in Marin County, CA.

Young's fans responded strongly to Song for Juli, giving it a higher chart placing than any album The Youngbloods ever made and keeping it in the charts longer than any album he ever made.

This is 70's California pop at it's best and the album is enjoyable from the first note to the last and shows the breadth of Young's stylistic talents. Solid songs, solid rhythm section, brilliant solos, perfect piano parts and one of the most distinctive voices in pop music. There are no disconcerting interludes here. You've got rock, jazz, country, and Cajun all smoothly rolled into one.

Julie Is Her Name Vol. 2

Mastered By Kevin Gray At Cohearent Audio From The Original Analog Tapes

200-Gram Gatefold LP plated And Pressed At Quality Record Pressings!

She was the sultry film starlet-turned-torch singer-come-TV actress whose dusky alto captivated a generation. Julie London was discovered while running a department store elevator in Hollywood.

Just three years earlier the bountiful 15 year old, born Julie Peck to her parents, a song-and-dance duo of the vaudeville era, was singing on her parents' radio show. When she started working in the movies in the 1940s, she changed her name to London. During the course of a celebrated career in acting and music, she made more than 30 albums.

The sultry-voiced actress, who was once married to Dragnet producer-star Jack Webb, had a hit record with the 1950s single Cry Me a River. The single debuted in 1955, sold three million copies and remained in demand into the 1960s.

Analogue Productions has brought back Julie Is Her Name Volume 2, making it an undeniable classic in every sense of the word. Remastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio, and plated and pressed on 200-gram vinyl at Quality Record Pressings, the result is a memory-stirring masterpiece.

Julie Is Her Name - Volume Two, has all the sincerity and warmth of her professional album debut, the best-selling Julie Is Her Name, from Liberty. An untested singer with uncompromising musical faith, an unknown record company, sophisticated, tastefully presented standards presented simply backed by just a bass and guitar - Julie Is Her Name faced long odds of success. Yet it soared to become a best-selling hit. Julie London rose to the Top 10 of every list of female vocalists.

And as to the cover, expect only top-notch reproduction for our Analogue Productions reissue. Originally a single LP jacket, we've upgraded to a gatefold incorporating more original photographs provided by Universal.

London appeared in nearly two dozen motion pictures during the 1940s and '50s; she was best known to TV audiences as nurse Dixie McCall on the 1970s hospital drama Emergency! She was hired on Emergency! by Webb, her then-former spouse, to co-star with her second husband, jazz musician Bobby Troup. Troup, who composed the iconic musical hit Route 66 played a doctor on the show and it was he who helped sign Julie to the Liberty record label.

Describing her smoky vocal style, London once said, It's only a thimbleful of a voice, and I have to use it close to a microphone. But it is a kind of over-smoked voice, and it automatically sounds intimate. A style inimitable, in our estimation.

Waiting For The Sun (50th Anniversary Deluxe Edition) (Pre-Order)

Newly Remastered From The Original Master Tapes By Bruce Botnick

The Doors released their third studio album, Waiting For The Sun, in July 1968. It was the band's third platinum album in less than two years, and the first to top the album chart. Since its debut, the album has sold millions of copies around the globe and contributed to the Doors' legendary canon with classics like The Unknown Soldier, Five To One and the #1 smash, Hello, I Love You.

Rhino will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the album this year with WAITING FOR THE SUN: 50th ANNIVERSARY DELUXE EDITION. This 2-CD/1-LP collection features a new version of the album's original stereo mix on both CD and 180-gram vinyl LP, which has been newly remastered from the original master tapes by Bruce Botnick, the Doors' longtime engineer/mixer. The set also includes a second disc of 14 completely unreleased tracks: nine recently discovered rough mixes from the album recording sessions and five live songs from a 1968 Copenhagen show.

It topped the Billboard 200 and became the best-selling debut album as well as the 11th best-selling album in the United States. On July 31, 2012, we lost a true original, Tony Sly. While we continue to mourn Tony our friend, we also celebrate Tony the artist with the official release The Songs of Tony Sly: A Tribute. We can't express how much it means to us and Tony's family that each of the artists and bands on this album took the time and effort to contribute such meaningful and interesting interpretations of Tony's songs. - Fat Wreck Chords

    Latin In A Satin Mood

Analogue Productions has brought back Julie London sings Latin In A Satin Mood in damatic, deserving fashion. Remastered by Kevin Gray at Cohearent Audio, and plated and pressed on 200-gram vinyl at Quality Record Pressings, the crispness and vibrancy of this recording is spectacular.

Exotic and Latin albums were big deals in the 1950s and early '60s, and singers as diverse as Dean Martin, Lena Horne, and Peggy Lee were recording with castanets and bongo drums. Like Peggy Lee, London combines a restrained vocal approach with jazz phrasing and a cool attitude with icy sex appeal on this album of relaxing Latin standards. Julie does look beautiful on the cover, and the backup male mariachi-esque serenade ads to the romantic ambiance.

    Hit Reset

Kathleen Hanna stealthily assembled the members of The Julie Ruin without any of them realizing exactly what was happening. It all began in late 2009. Kathleen had not released an album since Le Tigre's This Island (2004), and she was ready to jump back into music again. She knew her onetime Bikini Kill band mate Kathi Wilcox was going to be moving to New York in the near future, so she didn't even bother with finding a bass player at first. Carmine Covelli, who had toured with Le Tigre as their video guru, was having a blast at Kathleen's birthday party when she abruptly asked him to be the drummer.

A longtime admirer of Kathleen's work, Carmine couldn't say no to her at her own party, so of course he joined the band. Sara Landeau and Kathleen both taught at Girls Rock Camp and Kathleen lured her into the band by trading Pro Tools lessons for guitar lessons. Sara's surf-informed style gelled perfectly with Kathleen's sonic vision for her new band. Kathleen approached Kenny Mellman last with the idea that they should write country songs together to sell to other artists. Within a week of their first meeting, Kathleen's mysterious "manager" (whom Kenny maintains does not exist) told her that they would never break into the Nashville songwriting scene, so Kenny might as well join her new band on keyboards. Done.

In late 2014 they began work on their second album, Hit Reset, due out July 8th on Hardly Art records. Mixed by Eli Crews (with whom the band worked on Run Fast), Hit Reset expands on the band's established sound: dancier in spots and moodier in others, with girl group backing vocals and even a touching ballad closer. Hit Reset is the sound of a band who have found their sweet spot. Kathleen's vocals are empowered and her lyrics are as pointed and poignant as ever. From the chilling first lines of "Hit Reset"("Deer hooves hanging on the wall, shell casings in the closet hall") to the touching lines of "Calverton" ("Without you I might be numb, hiding in my apartment from everyone / Without you I'd take the fifth, or be on my death bed still full of wishes"), Hanna takes a leap into the personal not seen completely on the first album or possibly even in the rest of her work.

In 1960, pop vocalist Julie London was really cranking out albums for the successful label Liberty Records. The success of her 1955 hit Cry Me a River put Liberty into overdrive and London responded by making some of the strongest records of her career. Her ability to interpret a song was at its strongest in the late '50s and early '60s, as is evidenced on the shimmering Around Midnight. While some of her best recordings were front of small jazz combos, Around Midnight proves that London was just as effective in front of larger orchestras and bands. The drowsy Black Coffee and lazy Lush Life typify the late-night feel of the album, leading right into The Wee Small Hours of the Morning. [Julie...At Home was released in 1996 as a two-fer as Julie...At Home/Around Midnight.]

One in a long series of Julie London records, this set features the sultry but subtle singer on a dozen standards, each of which she dedicates to a different male singer. No dates or personnel information are given other than the LP stating that Andre Previn arranged for the backing orchestra. This is a worthwhile set, with London adding sensuality to such songs as Learnin' the Blues, When I Fall in Love, The More I See You, and Angel Eyes.

    Calendar Girl

Jazz critic Will Friedwald has stated that Julie London's records were so popular in the 1950s mainly because she looked so drop-dead gorgeous on the album covers. The marketing hook behind Calendar Girl may just be the main example for those critical of London's musical career, since its sleeve has made it a prized collector's item. The famous wraparound cover depicts cheesecake shots of London posed for every month of the year, while original issues of the album included a more-than-suggestive insert photo of the singer stretched out in bed. While Friedwald's correct about London's physical beauty, he's wrong in suggesting that the vocalist didn't have the talent to go along with her looks. Like Chet Baker, Julie London had an extremely limited vocal range but she did the most with what she had, possessing a special knack for torch songs that cast her in the role of a woman constantly being destroyed by love in general and by men in particular. The cover concept of Calendar Girl is carried over from the concept album, which features a narrative of romance lost and found for each month of the year before ending with one final tune called The Thirteenth Month (which is illustrated by that insert picture of London in bed). Since there aren't quality standards for every month of the year, one of Calendar Girl's pleasures can be found in the numbers written especially for the album, particularly those penned by Bobby Troup, London's husband. The jazz-oriented Troup hit pay dirt with such fine compositions as Route 66, Daddy, and The Meaning of the Blues, but too few of his smart, witty songs have been widely recorded. Calendar Girl is a fun, if often bittersweet, ride and a must-have for fans of classic vocal pop and lounge music.

Raised On Rock-For Ol' Times Sake

Raised on Rock/For Ol' Times Sake is a studio album by Elvis Presley released in 1973. Along with the album Elvis, it was released after the massive success of Aloha From Hawaii (although the entire Elvis album contained material recorded before the Aloha show). The album, which sold over one million copies worldwide, was recorded at Stax Studios in Memphis, Tennessee in July 1973 and at Presley's home in Palm Springs, California in September 1973. Two songs from these sessions would be retained for release on the Good Times album the following spring. The initial vocal tracks were recorded in July 1973. Raised on Rock backed by For Ol' Times Sake was the only single released from the album, reaching #41 on the Billboard chart and #42 on the Country chart in September 1973.

Additional contributions by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame guitarist Duane Eddy and Italian operatic pop trio Il Volo. Rounds out the year of Elvis' 80th birthday, which includes a year of landmark events including the launch of a newly-designed website (www.ElvisTheMusic.com); the opening of two massive retrospective exhibitions-one located at London's O2 Arena and the other located in Las Vegas; and the second commemorative Music Icons Stamp from the United States Postal Service with a companion music release on August 12!

    Nerve Up

LoneLady, AKA Julie Campbell is a self-styled writer, vocalist and tight guitarist. With little more than thorny determination and a shoestring budget, she built a secluded ramshackle studio in the belly of one of Manchester's crumbling mills and created her debut full length album, Nerve Up in the span of four weeks. The aesthetics of this ex-mill were a pure joy for LoneLady, and invoked the ghosts of bands she loves ... (Joy Division, ESG, Wire, Grace Jones, The Fall, Suicide, PiL). Co-produced by Julie and Guy Fixsen (My Bloody Valentine, The Breeders, Stereolab), LoneLady has delivered far more than just an assembly of songs in album form, but the outcome of a process of making something out of nothing.

MYSTIFIER is an extreme Metal pioneer from Brazil, formed in July of 1989 by the bassist Beelzeebubth. When Beelzeebubth met Meugninousouan (vocalist), Behemoth (guitarist), and Lucifuge Rofocale (drummer), they decided to form one of the most extreme Metal bands from South American lands. After five months of development, they recorded their first Demo-tape entitled "TORMENTING THE HOLY TRINITY", with nine original songs and a cover song "Massacre" from Bathory's third album. The response was so positive that Maniac Records (a small vinyl record store from their hometown) invited the band to record two original songs for a single. Mystifier eagerly agreed. In July of 1990, the single, "THE EVIL ASCENSION RETURNS" was released. They were the first Metal band from their town (Salvador, Bahia) to release material onto a label. Following this release, some Brazilian labels were very interested in working with Mystifier. Then, in July of 1991, they recorded a promo-tape entitled "ALEISTER CROWLEY" with six fresh songs to present to other labels.

In February/1992, the hard work had paid-off and their debut album "WICCA" was released on the label Hellion Records. It is considered one of the most extreme albums to date for many true fans of Extreme Metal Music. After the releasing of their debut album, Beelzeebubth fired Meugninousouan because of his lack of interest. Asmodeus (ex-Hatred) was recruited to be the new vocalist and keyboardist. In that same time, Astaroth (ex-Calvary) joined them on the second lead guitar.

During those years, the band gained enormous worldwide underground notoriety. It drew the attention of the French label Osmose Productions which signed the band for two albums. The first was released in the November of 1993, with worldwide distribution through SPV, entitled "GÖETIA" [several months later, their debut album was also released in Europe on Osmose Productions.] The response was a European tour request from the tour promoter Insolit - and many reviews, articles, interviews, and so forth - in international magazines and radio stations. After that release, Mystifier played in many Brazilian areas to promote the new release.

Behemoth and Astaroth had to quit the band because of personal reasons and weren't interested in maintaining a band. Paulo Lisboa (who had played in Death Metal bands for years) replaced them on the lead-guitar.

Beelzeebubth was very disappointed with the Underground scene, corroded with hypocritical 'satanic christians' who were talking a lot of shit about Satanism, fascism, racism and nazi thoughts. For that reason, he canceled the release of Mystifier's third album. He composed new and powerful music. Later, in August of 1996, their masterpiece third album entitled, "THE WORLD IS SO GOOD THAT WHO MADE IT DOESN'T LIVE HERE" was released with six new tracks. It's their greatest produced and recorded material; it is totally original and different from their previous releases.

With a new lineup, Mystifier released an EP with seven fresh songs and a re-done version of "Beelzeebubth" (from the second album), on a Brazilian label, to celebrate their 10 years. The single was entitled "DEMYSTIFYING THE MYSTIFIED ONES (FOR A DECADE IN THE EARTHLY PARADISE)."

The band released their fourth full-length album entitled "Profanus" in September/2001 with 13 fresh compositions on a Brazilian label called Encore Records.

Now, Mystifier has signed with Greyhaze Records in a deal that initially involves the reissues of Wicca and Goetia.

    Elysium

Neil Tennant and Chris Lowe recorded 'Elysium' in Los Angeles in early 2012, the first time they have recorded an album in America. They co-produced the record with US producer Andrew Dawson, who has won three Grammys for his work on Kanye West's albums.

'Elysium' features twelve new songs which display a warm, deep electronic sound, and includes orchestral arrangements by Joachim Horsley, Andrew Dawson, and Ben Leathers. Backing vocals are provided on many of the tracks by veteran singers Oren, Maxine and Julie Waters (whose long career spans sessions with The Jackson Five to Adele), and singer/songwriter James Fauntleroy.

Pet Shop Boys said: It was inspiring to make an album in Los Angeles, and to work with a producer from a different musical genre, who has brought a new dimension to our music.

    Rarities Vol. 1: The Covers

No Use For A Name is one of THE most successful and prolific acts to come out of the 90's skate-punk scene. But there's a lot more to it than that. Just have a look at their family tree, it has bands like Spazz, Foo Fighters, and Suicidal Tendencies to count among its branches. No really, think about that: the dude from that infamous grindcore band was in NUFAN?!? Their long, unpredictable journey has been full of twists, turns, and alternate routes that led them to be one of the best-selling outfits of their genre. They've done it all: Warped Tour's main stage, MTV, a live record, and an even a recent greatest hits album entitled, All The Best Songs. Hey, you know you've made it when you finally get a greatest hits collection! Not bad for some goofy kids from San Jose who started out with a couple hardcore 7s

Early No Use releases appeared on New Red Archives, a San Francisco punk label operated by Nicky Garratt of the UK Subs. Believe it or not, in the late 80's it actually made sense that they would be labelmates with Reagan Youth, Social Unrest, and Christ On A Crutch. An AllMusic review describes their early material as, hulking hardcore with mighty fists full of metal. Angry and Threatening. This was a gritty, hardcore punk band, known mostly for their growling vocals and dark lyrical themes. Then came the first unforeseen occurrence: frontman Tony Sly unexpectedly developed into a proficient songwriter and mastered melody like few punk bands can ever do. Nobody knows where those gifts come from and you never see it coming, but suddenly No Use For A Name was starting to make music that people actually liked.

As is natural, the band kept evolving, and things changed in a major way for the band when they signed to Fat Wreck Chords in the mid-90's. Their 8-song Fat debut, The Daily Grind EP, drew comparisons to Bad Religion and was a marked step up, but it was 1995's, ¡Leche con Carne!, that would cement No Use For A Name as a successful band for years to come. The album was their best yet and bore a hit song (Soul Mate) that landed them on alternative radio charts, which, for a scrappy punk band, was a complete deviation from industry norms. Stranger yet, was that they made a music video and MTV even played the damn thing! What followed obviously was commercial success in the form of six-figure album sales, another anomaly in the world of indie-punk bands and something that would set the stage for later melodic punk bands like Blink 182, et al. From then on it was steady sailing with a string of successful records and tours from the band. Most notably was 1997's darker, and somehow faster, Making Friends; followed by 1999's hyper-catchy More Betterness!. It was during these halcyon days that Chris Shiflett held down 6-string duties for NUFAN before accepting an offer to join Foo Fighters on lead guitar.

The years went by for the perennial punk powerhouse and the band did numerous world tours, amassing album sales that would eventually total in the 7 figures. Pretty remarkable when you think about it. The new millennium was also a fruitful time for the boys. It started in 2001 with the release of their Live In A Dive album, which was very successful abroad where people were especially hungry for No Use's live performances. In 2002 they released their poppiest effort, Hard Rock Bottom, which was stocked with upbeat tempos and radio-friendly melodies. Their most recent and seemingly final studio album came in 2008. Ironically titled The Feel Good Album Of The Year, the album was a tinge darker and more aggressive than their recent releases and the band reminded us all that their songs still had urgency and bite.

After 25 years, No Use For A Name disbanded in 2012 when frontman Tony unexpectedly passed away. Anthony J. Sly (November 4, 1970 - July 31, 2012) died at home, in his sleep on a Tuesday morning, at age 41. Fat Mike-label head and long-time friend to Tony-was staggered by the news and offered, One of my dearest friends and favorite songwriters has gone way too soon. Tony, you will be greatly missed. No one could've predicted his passing, and needless to say, it shook the very foundation of the Fat Wreck family and the underground music community as a whole. Tony was loved and respected by a wide variety of artists and musicians, and nowhere is that more evident than the roster of contributors to The Songs of Tony Sly: A Tribute; a compilation of NUFAN songs covered by bands like Bad Religion, Frank Turner, The Gaslight Anthem, Alkaline Trio, and many more. Bands from the Americas, Europe, Australia, UK, and even Israel contributed to this final chapter in the storied career of No Use For A Name. The collection will be released on October 29th, 2013, and all proceeds will go towards the Tony Sly Memorial Fund, which has been established to help Tony's wife Brigitte and their daughters, Fiona and Keira.

    Friday Night

Includes Seven Tracks Not Previously Available

Friday Night is a live album of performances from Will Butler's tour
supporting his first album Policy. It was recorded mostly at Lincoln Hall in
Chicago on June 4, 2015. Five of the songs are from Policy, two are songs
written for the Guardian newspaper last year, and five are new.

This record exists partly because I had a really good band, and I wanted to
document it. Miles Arntzen (EMEFE, Antibalas) played drums (standing
up at a full kit-he didn't use a hi-hat pedal, so he could stand on that leg
while working the kick drum with the other). Julie Shore played synth bass.
Sara Dobbs played synth leads and Mellotron pads. Everybody sang backing
    vocals.

We started almost every show with "You Must Be Kidding." I thought the
album should start in medias res to welcome the listener into a sweaty room
with a tired, happy band and a loose crowd. So the album starts with the
encore "Tell Me We're All Right" which was only ever played once, and this is
the recording of it. We never soundchecked it. It wasn't even written yet (you
might be able to tell). But Miles plays some magical fills, Sara and Julie jump
in with good harmonies, and the crowd even begins a spontaneous call-and response
at the end ("You're all right!").

This record also exists because I wrote a lot of new songs and the band
got good at playing them, and I wanted to put them out to the wider world.
Sometimes an artist will take a new song into the studio and polish it until
there's nothing left. I wanted these songs to avoid that fate.

Think of this as a comedy record. In some ways literally-Brooklyn comedian
Jo Firestone does the introduction and the "solo" in "Friday Night"-but
also, it's an album based on working out ideas in a room full of people, playing
off their energy and expectations. It's about taking complicated emotions
and wringing communal joy from them, and then translating that joy onto
    record. So here you go!

    Shadows And Reflections

Marc's distinctive vocals have rarely sounded richer and warmer. - Record Collector

Almond's voice--although it no longer veers out of tune like it used to so endearingly in the 80s--is still enthralling. - The Guardian

'Shadows And Reflections' is the new album by Marc Almond released by BMG. It features sumptuous arrangements of iconic torch songs and60's orchestral pop for which he is beloved, as well as two new original compositions. The album features songs written or recorded by artists such as Burt Bacharach, The Action, The Yardbirds, Bobby Darin, Julie Driscoll, Billy Fury and the Young Rascals. The album thematically begins and ends in an apartment. It's about this guy that's living in a luxury expansive glass apartment overlooking the city, filled with sculptures and beautiful things, an empty soulless shell, surrounded by absurd wealth. He is sitting alone and I imagine listening to this music, possibly the songs that make up this album. He's rich in the bank but the poorest person you know.

2017 cements the 60th Birthday year for the singer who the Observer noted, has never stood still and comes after the great success of the Top 10 album 'Hits And Pieces', which was followed by a sold-out Spring tour including a triumphant show at London's Roundhouse.
