SongsAfter the groundswell of adoration for his album debut Life After Defo and the live shows that followed, Deptford Goth returns this Autumn with Songs, his second record of intensely slow-burning gems. Where the former was more affiliated with those seamless blenders of dreamy synth-pop, R&B and soul, Songs adds elements of singer-songwriter tradition to his irresistibly yearning electronica. "It wasn't a conscious decision," says Daniel Woolhouse. "But I've become more accepting of my voice, so it's more prominent now, which led to structuring the songs in a more classic way. I also wanted people to hear the lyrics. It's a process of being more upfront and honest."
Songs' mood is still downbeat but tracks such 'Two Hearts' as 'The Lovers' would suggest he's found more happiness in his life. "Life After Defo had bits of hope hidden inside but this one's definitely more joyous," Daniel agrees. "Instead of closing down I'm opening up and feeling more at peace with myself about certain things."
Songs also bears the mark of its origins. Last year, Daniel left his south-east London flat where he recorded and Life After Defo for a place by the sea. "It's pretty peaceful here," he says. "And more space meant I could develop things a bit more."
As if to underline his singular mission, Songs' artwork echoes that of Life After Defo, being by the same artist, Jordan Kasey. "I wanted a continuation. I wanted something figurative, but that resembled a landscape too. It represents to me a connection between the physical self and it's surroundings, which is one of the album's themes." Over 11 chapters, from dark to light and various points in between, Songs is a unique landscape of the mind, body and soul, and one of 2014's most beautiful.1. Relics

SongsI just wanted to write really good songs, and with that outlook, everything else is a perk. -John Fullbright
That plainspoken approach is part of what's fueled the young Oklahoman's
remarkable rise. It was just two years ago that Fullbright released his debut studio
album, From The Ground Up, to a swarm of critical acclaim from such notable
sources as LA Times, Wall Street Journal, NPR-to say nothing of his GRAMMY
Nomination for Best Americana Album.
But for Fullbright, it hasn't been all the acclaim that means the most to him, but
rather his entrance into a community of songwriters whose work he admires.
When I started out, I was all by myself in a little town in Oklahoma where whatever
you wanted, you just made it yourself, he explains. One of the most fulfilling
things about the last two years is that now I'm surrounded by like-minded people
in a community of peers.
The arrangements on Songs are stripped down to their cores and free of ornamentation. Fullbright's guitar and piano anchor the
record, while a minimalist rhythm section weaves in and out throughout the album. The performances are stark and direct,
though, a deliberate approach meant to deliver the songs in their purest and most honest form. Fullbright inhabits his songs' narrators completely, his old-soul voice fleshing out complex characters and subtle narratives with a gifted sense of understatement.
To be sure, Songs has its moments of darkness, tracks born from pain and heartbreak, but for a craftsman like Fullbright, there
are few greater joys than carving emotion into music, taking a stab at that lofty goal of immortality through song.1. Happy

SongsThe takeover for English dubstep producer Rusko (aka Christopher Mercer) has only just begun! His 2010 debut, O.M.G!, replete with his signature bone-rattling bass and anthemic melodies, was a critical and commercial hit that cemented him as one of the most exciting artists on the modern dance music scene.
His peers have championed him and Diplo, Santigold and Switch have featured his tracks in DJ sets and mixes. His own productions and remixes include The Prodigy and Basement Jaxx and his live shows have been drawing rapturous crowds across the globe.

Recent Songs is the sixth studio album by Leonard Cohen, released in 1979. It was a return to Cohen's acoustic folk music after the Phil Spector experimentation of Death of a Ladies' Man, but now with many jazz and Oriental influences.
The album includes Gypsy violin player Raffi Hakopian, and even a Mexican Mariachi band. Long-time Cohen collaborator Jennifer Warnes prominently appears in vocal tracks. Members of the band Passenger played on four of the songs and Garth Hudson of The Band also appeared on the album.
Came So Far for Beauty seems to be an unaltered outtake from the unfinished 1975 album Songs for Rebecca , which also included early versions of The Traitor and The Smokey Life (then with music by John Lissauer).
Ballad of the Absent Mare's metaphoric lyrics are based on the twelfth-century Ten Bulls (or Ten Ox-herding Pictures). The song is covered by several artists, notably Emmylou Harris on the album Cowgirl's Prayer (as Ballad of a Runaway Horse).

Popular SongsFinally back in print, the double vinyl of Yo La Tengo's most recent album, Popular Songs!
The sprawling, 12-track record (including three songs over 8 minutes in length, and one 15 minute jam) is one of their most eclectic and cathartic.
Featuring the Parisian pop of "Avalon or Someone Very Similar," the joyous rocker "Nothing To Hide" and the whimsical "Periodically Double Or Triple."
Recorded in Hoboken and Nashville in early 2009 with longtime associate Roger Mountenot, Popular Songs finds the trio of Georgia Hubley, Ira Kaplan and James McNew at the height of their creative powers, fashioning an epic work that's cooly confident as it is wildly adventurous.
In the words of Mike Wolf, "Yo La Tengo is not afraid. They walk confidently forward, into the unknown, hand in hand. They may just be hitting their stride."LP1

Night Songs is the debut studio album by American Rock band Cinderella, released in 1986. The album sold several million copies due to a combination of Cinderella's breakthrough single Nobody's Fool, MTV airplay, and an opening slot on labelmates Bon Jovi's tour, in support of their album Slippery When Wet.
The album peaked at #3 on the US charts, and was eventually certified triple platinum for shipping 3 million copies. Leadoff single Shake Me failed to chart, but Nobody's Fool cracked the Top 20, reaching #13. The third single Somebody Save Me went to #66.
Night Songs was criticized as one of the top five worst album covers on great albums. The cover was not that bad, it was just misleading, as it put forward a glam metal image, but the songs inside were classic Hard Rock and Heavy Metal.1. Night Songs

The first ever vinyl reissue of an extraordinarily-unique space-age educational LP. Includes the oft-covered "A Shooting Star Is Not A Star" and "Why Does The Sun Shine?" Featuring Leo Leonni cover art and taken from the original atomic-era 1959 master tapes. Written by Hy Zaret and sung by Tom Glazer & Dottie Evans. Zaret (co-author of "Unchained Melody") turned his attention to educational children's music in the late 1950s, collaborating with Lou Singer on a six-album series called "Ballads for the Age of Science." Space Songs stands alone as the most essential volume in a series that also featured songs about energy and motion, experiments, weather, and nature. Workbench SongsAvailable On Vinyl For The First Time
Offered here for the first time ever on vinyl, Workbench Songs was originally released on CD in 2006. It represented Guy Clark's 10th studio release and continued his legacy as one of the most critically acclaimed Texas songsmith's of our time. The Austin American Statesman had this to say of the 2006 release:
Guy Clark dominates the discussion with his opinion on Townes Van Zandt whenever it comes to talking about who is the one plus ultra Texas songwriter. He has a point, of course, but if Townes is No. 1, Clark is No. 1A. Workbench Songs goes a mighty long way to proving that true. It's not just another collection of his finely crafted songs, his first for a new label. It's one of the best albums of his career. What's continually amazing about Clark is his ability to capture a sweeping range of emotions and everyday occurrences in song, from joy and pain to roadhouse rambunctious and Mexicans visiting Graceland, with exquisite simplicity and captivating lucidity. Here his co-writers are the best of their ilk, Rodney Crowell, Gary Nicholson, Darrell Scott, Lee Roy Parnell, and longtime collaborator Verlon Thompson, but there's also a chilling version of Van Zandt's "No Lonesome Tune," perhaps to demonstrate his point. Songs like Celtic flavored set opener, "Walkin' Man," the comically breezy "Tornado Time in Texas," and the universally recognizable scene set in "Out in the Parkin' Lot" stand out on a collection that may be from the workbench but is nowhere near workmanlike.1. Future SongsIncludes CD
Pat Jordache has been making elliptical sparkling waves in Montreal's vibrant noise-pop community for several years now. His band Sister Suvi with Merill Garbus made a fierce but short-lived impact, serving up dense, lo-fi, supercharged complexity and garnering accolades for their Now I Am Champion album.
Future Songs is the bracing result of Pat's isolation; an album of brilliant off-kilter pop, anchored by woozy baritone vocals, angular guitar lines and a gloriously careening approach to rhythm and arrangement. Evoking sounds and sensibilities that encompass David-Baker-era Mercury Rev, Joy Division, Scott Walker and Can, to name just a few, Future Songs was self-released on cassette and went up on Bandcamp in summer of 2010, circulating quickly through Montreal's DIY music community and Tumblr accounts across the continent. ADAD-ANT-3813xWilliam Elliott Whitmore
Field SongsOn his forthcoming new album Field Songs, Iowa troubadour William Elliott Whitmore documents a vanishing American landscape with all the heartfelt soul and quiet fury one could hope for. He utilizes a powerful singing voice beyond his years and a stark dramatic sound rooted in bluegrass, blues and folk protest music. The new songs vividly evoke a life of struggle, humble resilience and family bond inspired by life on his familys farm along the Mississippi River.
Whitmore has made a name for himself both within the punk movement, where his populism and sincerity resonate with alienated urban kids, and the roots community, where writers like Andy Downing of the Chicago Tribune have placed him within the new pastoralism of Bon Iver and the Fleet Foxes.1. While holed up in a house in upstate ny, The Men took full advantage of their rural surroundings, in-house studio, and lack of recording timelines and obligations. They tracked over twenty-five songs. On top of that they also managed to record five songs acoustically, while sitting around a campfire outside the house. Vinyl version comes with a 12-page photo book 11.5 × 11.5 insert featuring never before seen black & white photographs shot by their bassist/photographer Kevin Faulkner during the Big Indian sessions.
Campfire Songs is the band's second release this year, and their fifth in the past four years. To say this band is prolific is an understatement; they are teeming, borderline prodigal even. Two of these acoustic jams are alternate takes from the album, "I Saw Her Face" and "The Seeds". The plugged-in version of "Water Babies" appeared on the b-side of their 7 from January, "Patience" and "Turn Your Color" are two entirely new beautiful tracks that highlight this band's ability to be as gentle as they are commanding.1. "Whole generations of basement-tape shenanigans are baked into their lurching, overdriven sound, alternatingly stripped-down and blown-out" - SPIN
Take the 101 north out of Los Angeles, and you'll pass by Agoura Hills, where the core duo of
the band Dub Thompson grew up. Whatever you see in that town won't readily prepare you for
the music they wrote while there, but you're free to look.
"Most everyone who's in a group who's our age lives on the Internet," says guitarist Matt Pulos.
"The kinds of thingsthat have shaped our band aren't anchored to any one time or place."
Pulos and his bandmate, drummer Evan Laffer, are currently both 19 years old, and are putting
that line of thought to the test; their musical influences travel from the Midwestern malaise of
Big Black and Pere Ubu, to Kraut pioneers Can and Kraftwerk, while bowing to the British
belligerence of The Fall and This Heat.
Recording the album while living with Foxygen's Jonathan Rado at his rented house in
Bloomington, the band had its first taste of a heavy Indiana summer, and all the humidity and
insect life that buzzes along with it. "We woke up every day, ate hard-boiled eggs and stood on
a porch," says Pulos of the experience.
Their first collection of songs slyly unties the shoes of genre and convention, shape shifts
mischievously, and tramples on the promises delivered on the name itself.
There are only eight songs on this rangy debut.
Intense blasts of hook-filled noise rock ("Hayward!"), rock steady marionette stomp ("No
Time"), hypnotic bouts of doomy poetics ("Epicondyles"), outlandishly sexy groove rock
("Dograces"), and a number of other bite-sized forays into parts unknown are made manifest
across 9 Songs.
The vibes are strong here. Pulos sings and plays like he's working out long-standing grudges,
pulling the most sinewy tones from an acoustic guitar and ripping huge chunks of demon flesh
out of his electric. Laffer matches him step for step on the drums, an exacting presence behind
the kit who pushes even the band's more placid moments into bouts of tension. Together they
succeed in animating their musical ideas to startling, almost unnatural life. Reverb units,
keyboards, samples and processing gluing everything together, saturated in the August heat and
worn in until they sound second nature, it's like somehow you've been listening to these songs

Canyon SongsFirst time available on vinyl and celebrating the 10-year anniversary of what many fans and critics concede could be the crown jewel of Lucca's catalog, the emotive Canyon Songs, a touching 10-track tip of the cap to the legendary Laurel Canyon sound immortalized by master musicians including Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Joni Mitchell and Jackson Browne.
Lucca says. "Instead of diving back into the next album cycle, I've decided to reflect for a minute and promote the larger body of work, to shine more light on Tony Lucca, the songwriter." For Lucca, who was raised in a very large musical family in Detroit, a short stint doing the Hollywood shuffle/auditioning actor thing led him to recognize his true passion: music. A number of albums and EPs followed.
Lucca has made myriad television appearances on popular shows such as Parenthood, The Tonight Show, Last Call with Carson Daly, The All New Mickey Mouse Club, the Aaron Spelling-produced Malibu Shores, as well as small roles in some independent features. He was also the source oftabloid fodder during his years dating actress Keri Russell, as well as when he was a third place finisher on Season 2 of The Voice (which served as a springboard for a series of additional key career milestones, including the signing of a recording contract with Adam Levine's 222 Records, as well as high profile stints on tour with the likes of Maroon 5, Kelly Clarkson and Sara Bareilles, among countless others).
