    Hoodoo Man Blues

Hoodoo Man Blues is not only Junior Wells' initial appearance on record, it is damn near the first LP by a Chicago blues band. Chess and a few other labels had reissued 45's by Muddy Waters, Sonny Boy Williamson, Howling Wolf, Jimmy Reed, Elmore James, etc. but virtually no one had tried to capture the Chicago blues sound free of limitations of juke-box/airplay promotion as Delmark does here. Hoodoo Man Blues is the real Chicago blues from a true blues legend.

    Sonny Meets Hawk! (Pure Pleasure)

This is a memorable meeting of a pair of genial giants - Sonny Rollins, who has been called again and again the boss of the modern tenor sax, and Coleman Hawkins, who is the father of jazz saxophone playing.

Each has made enormous contributions to jazz improvisation, beyond the limits of his instrument. The sum total of their work forms the impressive foundation for this once-in-a-lifetime album.

This recording is extraordinary in every sense, and not merely in that it marks the first time (except for a brief on-stage appearance at the 1963 Newport Jazz Festival, which inspired this studio recording) that these great musicians have played together. Each has blended his own strong personality with the other's, yet neither has lost his individuality. Where one reaches into the other's 'bag', it is done with musical logic and respect; always, the goal of a cohesive duet relationship is uppermost in each of their minds. And perhaps the most extraordinary aspect of this album is that neither musician plays safe; each exercises his powerful imagination throughout, running all the risks entailed in daring improvisation - but gaining also the satisfactions inherent in such an approach.

    About Pure Pleasure

At the beginning of the 90s, in the early days of audiophile vinyl re-releases, the situation was fairly straightforward. Companies such as DCC, Mobile Fidelity, Classic Records and, of course, Pure Pleasure all maintained a mutual, unwritten ethical code: we would only use analogue tapes to manufacture records.

During the course of the present vinyl hype, many others have jumped on the bandwagon in the hope of securing a corner of the market. Very often they are not so ethical and use every imaginable source to master from: CDs, LPs, digital files, MP3s - or employed existent tools from the 80s and 90s for manufacturing.

A digital delay is gladly used when cutting a lacquer disc because tape machines with an analogue delay have become quite rare and are therefore expensive. When cutting the lacquer, the audio signal is delayed by one LP revolution against the signal, which controls the cutter head, and for this a digital delay is very often employed. Of course, the resultant sound signal is completely digital and thus only as good as this delay.

We should like to emphasize that Pure Pleasure Records on principle only uses the original master tape as the basis for the entirely analogue cutting of lacquer discs. In addition, the pressing tool is newly manufactured as a matter of principle.

We only employ existing tools for manufacturing if an improved result is not forthcoming, e.g. the title Elvis Is Back, which was mastered by Steve Hoffman and Kevin Gray, or several titles from our Philips Classics series, which in any case Willem Makkee cut from the original masters at the Emil Berliner Studios in the 90s. It goes without saying that we only used the mother and that new tools were made for our production.

To put it in a nutshell: we can ensure you that our releases are free from any kind of digital effects and that the lacquer discs are newly cut.

The Story of Sonny Boy Slim

To sum up Gary Clark Jr. is more challenging every day. He's a musical universe unto himself, expanding at a nearly immeasurable rate, ever more hard to define - as a mind-blowing guitarist, a dazzling songwriter and engagingly soulful singer. He became the first artist ever recognized by the Recording Academy with Grammy Award nominations in both the rock and R&B categories for the same album in the same year, winning the latter: Best Traditional R&B Performance - Please Come Home (from the album Blak And Blu). Rolling Stone dubbed Clark The King of the Summer Festivals as he captivated audiences from Coachella to Glastonbury, Lollapalooza to the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, from Metallica's Orion Festival to Jay-Z's Made in America, and of course his hometown Austin City Limits Festival, where he his band set a daytime attendance record.

    The Sound Of Sonny

The Sound Of Sonny marks a new phase in Sonny Rollins' career. At the time of the album's recording in 1957, the tenor saxophone legend was reaching
the height of his powers, having been proclaimed Down-Beat Magazine Critics' Poll New Star of the tenor saxophone that very same year. Joined by a
variety of accompaniment (Sonny liked to shake it up!), including pianist Sonny Clark, drummer Roy Haynes and bassists Percy Heath and Paul
Chambers, Rollins attains a level of freedom in his soloing and rhythmic interplay that only serves to underscore his melodic brilliance. A landmark
recording in the development of one of Jazz's true giants of the tenor saxophone, The Sound Of Sonny is a canonical smooth bop LP and an underrated
gem in Sonny Rollins' brilliant catalog.

Collected from three separate recording sessions held between November of 1953 and October of 1954, this Prestige release does indeed feature the pairing of the two jazz giants Thelonious Monk and Sonny Rollins, but only on three of the album's five tracks. Monk is the mainstay throughout however, presented here in trio, quartet and quintet settings. It is the quintet numbers with Rollins, that both open (The Way You Look Tonight, I Want To Be Happy) and close (Friday the 13th) the album, that shine the brightest though, the distinct nuances of Rollins' tenor wonderfully contrasting Monk's artful piano lines!

The legendary Sonny & Cher set the music world on fire in the sixties and beyond with their superstar brand of classic
rock and pop music. Their music transcended into all boundaries of popular music with their brand of folk-rock, Phil Spector
wall of sound like productions, and 2 and a half minute symphonies to the ears of millions of people who wanted to hear rock
    and roll love songs.

Spearheaded both by the multi-talented singer/songwriter and producer.

Sonny Bono and the grace and voice of his trend setting fashion model wife Cher, their debut 45 recording of I Got
You Babe would prove to become a huge catalyst for things to come for these popular hipsters. They would go on to sell
multiple millions of records and albums and have their songs successfully covered by many rock and pop acts over the years
like Mott The Hoople, UB40, Chrissie Hynde and Vanilla Fudge.

With a dazzling number of chart topping singles, a bunch of hit albums, numerous television appearances, a number
one television show, successful concert tours and feature movies, Sonny & Cher's ATCO recordings would take the duo to the
top of all the popular music charts and would become some of the finest top 40 hits of all time.

Even though the great Sonny Bono is no longer with us, their massive radio airplay and an amazing string of hit
records, Sonny & Cher to this day are still revered and loved by their continual growing legion of fans worldwide.
After delivering a plethora of hits in rapid succession for ATCO Records, the label honored this hugely popular
husband and wife team with their incredible greatest hits album simply titled The Best Of Sonny & Cher.

effort awarded these pop/rock legends with one of the finest greatest hits albums ever released.

All your favorites are here, as this 12 track masterpiece is loaded with hit after hit with smash singles like, What Now

As one of the most enduring albums in their massive career catalog, The Best Of Sonny & Cher includes even more
significant hit tracks like Sonny's protest rocker Laugh At Me, the smash sounds of Sing C'est La Vie, Just You, and their

Sonny Smith copes with a painful separation from his wife on this extremely personal country album. Recorded directly to tape in a musty basement smelling of beer and tobacco, Longtime Companion explores love and heartache along the vein of Gene Clark, The Flying Burrito Brothers, and Johnny Cash.

Sonny dives into his self-described "sea of darkness" with a wide range of intimate lyrics, pedal steel, and acoustic guitars. After just one listen, it's clear no other genre could so eloquently frame Sonny's heartbreaking internal monologue more than the old time country music he grew up with. 180g gold vinyl LP.

By the time this LP was released, Sonny Rollins already had such albums under his name as Worktime (OJCCD-007-2) and Sonny Rollins Plus 4 (OJCCD-243-2), in addition to his sideman exploits with the Clifford Brown/Max Roach Quintet. Tenor Madness, in which he was joined by the rhythm section from the Miles Davis Quintet, further substantiated and underlined his rapidly rising stature. The material is an effective mixture of Rollins' playing attitudes with an intriguing original, Paul's Pal, and the mining of unusual material such as My Reverie and The Most Beautiful Girl in the World. And, of course, there is the celebrated title track featuring the two titans to emerge in the '50s, Rollins and his guest, visiting in the studio that day, John Coltrane.

Tomorrow is Alright is a vinyl reissue of the debut Sonny & The Sunsets album. Previously out of print, this limited run of 500 copies features 180-Gram Reflex Blue colored vinyl.

"The Sunsets, featuring members of Thee Oh Sees, the Fresh & Onlys, and Citay, plus Sub Pop's Kelley Stoltz largely stay in the background, providing sparse but carefully considered instrumentation. Citay's Tahlia Harbour is the lone exception, although even she's used sparingly; her deadpan counterpoints to Sonny's stoney spaceman
in "Planet of Women" or rationale-spouting youngster in "Lovin' on an Older Gal" are impeccably timed, a fitting geewhiz to Sonny's endless aw-shucks. The production's crisp
and roomy, allowing each word to linger, each note its own space.

'Tomorrow Is Alright' feels like the work of a songwriter comfortable with himself and his limitations. So many bands put in a lot of work trying to make themselves sound
older than their years; with their quiet confidence and no shortage of killer material, the Sunsets make it seem almost too easy." - Pitchfork (8.0 review)

    The Bridge

The music on this 1962 LP has been reissued many times, including in the Bluebird series. Tenor saxophonist Sonny Rollins' first recording after ending a surprising three-year retirement found the great saxophonist sounding very similar to how he had played in 1959, although he would soon start investigating freer forms. In a pianoless quartet with guitarist Jim Hall, bassist Bob Cranshaw, and drummer Ben Riley, Rollins explores four standards (including Without a Song and God Bless the Child) plus two fiery originals (highlighted by the title cut). The interplay between Rollins and Hall is consistently impressive, making this LP a near-classic and a very successful comeback.
