Sons Of Soul'
Sons Of SoulSons of Soul is the 1993 third studio album by American R&B group Tony! Toni! TonÉ! The band originally recorded for the album at several studios in California, including Westlake Recording Studios and Paradise Recording Studio. When they became jaded with the various people frequenting those studios, Tony! Toni! TonÉ! moved their sessions to Caribbean Sound Basin in Trinidad, where they ultimately wrote and recorded most of the album.
Sons of Soul was produced entirely by the group, who worked with various session musicians and utilized both vintage and contemporary recording equipment. They intended to pay homage to their musical influences-classic soul artists of the 1960s and 1970s-and incorporated live instrumentation, funk, and hip-hop elements such as samples and scratches. Lead singer and bassist Raphael Wiggins handled most of the songwriting, which featured quirky, flirtatious lyrics.
Sons of Soul was originally released by Wing Records and Mercury Records on June 22, 1993, to widespread critical acclaim. The record's commercial success included a 43-week chart run on the Billboard 200 and a double platinum certification from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), for sales of at least two million copies. With its success, Tony! Toni! TonÉ! became one of the most popular R&B acts during the genre's commercial resurgence in the early 1990s. However, after an ill-fated tour, the band went on hiatus and pursued individual projects before reuniting in 1995.1. If I Had No Loot

Soul Message From DimonaFollowing a path blazed in Belize and the Bahamas, The Numero Group finds yet another stop on the soul diaspora tour: Dimona, Israel. Between 1975-1981, a group of American ex-pats took their native sounds of Detroit and Chicago and intermingled them with the messages of the Black Hebrew culture. The results are a heavenly mix of spiritual soul and jazz with an undercurrent of gospel psychedelia. MEmphis Rock And SoulMelissa Etheridge has announced the release of her new album MEmphis Rock and Soul, a tribute to Stax Records and the rich history of classic Southern soul, scheduled for release via Stax Records, a division of Concord Music Group. The album is a collection of deep soul covers associated with the original Stax label, including songs recorded by Otis Redding, Rufus Thomas, The Staple Singers, William Bell and more. The album also features new, original verses written by Melissa on two of the tracks.
While the original Stax studio is long gone, Etheridge took to another hallowed local spot, Willie Mitchell's Royal Studios (home to Al Green, Ann Peebles and others), to channel the classic Memphis sounds found on these soulful standards. MEmphis Rock and Soul was produced by Willie's son Boo Mitchell, and features a backing band comprised of Hodges Brothers and other top Memphis musicians who are legends in their own right. Etheridge even recorded with Al Green's famed RCA 77DX ribbon microphone (No. 9"). MEmphis Rock and Soul also spotlights the empowering role Stax played in the Civil Rights Movement, a fitting theme for Melissa, who has become a pivotal voice of the modern LGBT rights movement.1. Rubber SoulsTanya Morgan has resuscitated the breathy voice of true
hip-hop with their harmonious production, thoughtprovoking
wordplay, and energizing live performances
- Huffington Post
Tanya Morgan is a rap group. More than that, they're a great rap group as evidenced by the acclaim they've received from the
likes of Billboard, Vibe, SPIN, XXL Magazine, XLR8R, Los Angeles Times, The Onion, NY Magazine and a bevy of other press
outlets who have praised the group throughout the duration of their career. "Tanya Morgan are like the sons of De La Soul -
soulful, stressed, effortlessly smart flows, intricate production, the whole package," says SPIN Music Editor Charles Aaron.
Hailing from both Brooklyn and Cincinnati, Tanya Morgan formed on the message boards of Okayplayer.com in 2003 when
Donwill, Ilyas Nashid and Von Pea were all solo artists trading demos and beat tapes. The three MCs decided to collaborate for
a one-off project and settled on the name Tanya Morgan - an inside joke to trick hip-hop crate-diggers and sample-searchers
into thinking the record was an old-school soul singer. After their debut album, Moonlighting, was endorsed by the likes of
?uestlove in 2006 and was received enthusiastically by fans, Tanya Morgan decided to keep working together and keep the
name. In the wake of Moonlighting's critical success, the group released its follow-up, 2009's Brooklynati which saw the group
reach more fans and beguile more journalists as it was widely regarded as one of the year's best hip hop releases.
Since Brooklynati, the group has reformed with Ilyas moving on to focus on his solo material and video production while Von
Pea and Donwill continue to tour as Tanya Morgan, supporting the group's classic material as well as the members' first solo
releases: Donwill's Don Cusack In High Fidelity and Von Pea's Pea's Gotta Have It, both released in 2010.
2013 will mark the release of their third album, Rubber Souls, produced by 6th Sense (B.o.B., Outasight, Talib Kweli,
Mickey Factz, Homeboy Sandman, The Lonely Island, etc.). Having recorded the whole project together (as opposed to
individually as they have in the past), handing the production reins to an outsider, and adding a stable of musicians with whom
to collaborate, Tanya Morgan shook up the entire recording process with Rubber Souls. This album shows us stepping out of
our comfort zone to great results, explains Von Pea. [I]t brought out a new type of chemistry in our music. Instrumentally
ambitious, Rubber Souls is about expansion. Challenging both artists and musicians, producer 6th Sense gives his
interpretation of the Tanya Morgan sound - [t]he result in an album that will satisfy long time fans and
shock non-believers, adds Donwill.1. For Real

Redeemer Of SoulsCLASSIC JUDAS PRIEST METAL ON THE WAY WITH THEIR 17TH ALBUM 'REDEEMER OF SOULS'
There are only a select number of bands that have accomplished what Judas Priest has throughout their career (as well as having served as a stylistic influence on such a wide variety of bands). Soon the group - singer Rob Halford, guitarists Glenn Tipton and Richie Faulkner, bassist Ian Hill and drummer Scott Travis - will be offering up more classic Judas Priest metal with the release of 'Redeemer of Souls'
'Redeemer of Souls' is Judas Priest's latest collection of epic metal - raising the bar is consistent for us and 'Redeemer' hits the ground running - it matches up perfectly to earlier Priest classics as evidenced by the album's leadoff single 'March of the Damned'
(we are forging ahead, slamming the pedal to the metal!) - the band mean business once again.
We feel 'Redeemer of Souls' reinforces our passion for what we believe in from the Judas Priest style heavy metal. The album also marks Richie Faulkner's studio debut with Priest and is the co-writer of the material along with Glenn Tipton and Rob Halford.
First bursting onto the scene with 1974's 'Rocka Rolla' Judas Priest is responsible for some of heavy metal's all-time great albums - 1980's 'British Steel', 1982's 'Screaming for Vengeance', 1990's 'Painkiller' etc - and anthems 'Breaking the Law', 'Living After Midnight', 'You've Got Another Thing Coming' etc - as well as trailblazing metal's now instantly identifiable look - leather and studs - 2014 marks the 40th anniversary of the band.
And while fans are undoubtedly starved for more Priest (their last studio album 'Nostradamus' was released in 2008) the band themselves are eager for the world to hear their latest studio triumph. Classic combination of all the statements we love to create with raging guitar riffs and solos, thundering drums, thick grooves of bass and vocals tearing it all up!LP 1

Merritone Rock Steady 2: This Music Got Soul 1966-1967 (Awaiting Repress)American rhythm & blues fervor, boosted by a multitude of sound systems playing 78rpm records on increasingly larger sets, gripped Jamaica from the late forties onwards but, towards the end of the decade, the American audience began to move towards a somewhat softer sound. The driving rhythm & blues discs became increasingly hard to find and the more progressive Jamaican sound system operators, realizing that they now needed to make their own music, turned to Kingston's jazz and big band musicians to record one-off custom cut discs. These were not initially intended for commercial release but designed solely for sound system play on acetate or 'dub plates' as they would later be termed. These 'specials' soon began to eclipse the popularity of American rhythm & blues and the demand for their locally produced music proved so great that the sound system operators began to release their music commercially on vinyl and became record producers. Clement 'Coxsone' Dodd, Duke Reid 'The Trojan' and Prince Buster, who operated his Voice Of The People Sound System, were among the first to establish themselves in this new role and the nascent Jamaican recording industry now went into overdrive.
In 1954 Ken Khouri had numbered among the first far-sighted entrepreneurs to produce mento records with local musicians (mento is Jamaica's original indigenous music) before progressing to opening Jamaica's first record manufacturing plant. Three years later he moved his operation to Foreshore Road (later renamed Marcus Garvey Drive) where, with the assistance of the inestimable Graeme Goodall, he updated and upgraded his recording studio. The importance of this enterprising move was critical to the development of Jamaican music and its influence both profound and far-reaching.
"It was Ken Khouri's Federal Recording Studio, the womb that gave birth to the talented writers, artists and musicians that gave Jamaica its musical identity." Prince Buster
Federal Records was not only the place for the sound system men to record their music but it was also where they had their records manufactured and, consequently, the company enjoyed a near-total monopoly on recording and record pressing in Kingston. In 1963 Ken Khouri sold his one track board to Clement 'Coxsone' Dodd, who established Studio One, and Ken imported the first stereo equipment to Jamaica and Federal began making stereo records. The following year WIRL (West Indies Records Limited) opened but the competition served to drive the company on to higher heights. Ken Khouri continued to work on his own productions and, in 1966, the seven-inch release of Hopeton Lewis' 'Take It Easy', recorded under the guidance of Trinidadian guitarist Lynn Taitt, ushered in the rock steady era.
These two essential albums showcase a stunning selection of well-known hits, and not so well-known rarities, from the vast Federal catalog. All tracks have been transferred direct from the master tapes and assembled with the invaluable assistance of Ken Khouri's son, Paul Khouri, who generously gave Dub Store unlimited access to the Federal tape vaults. The extensive liner notes feature extracts from extensive interviews with Paul Khouri whose knowledgeable recollections of working on Marcus Garvey Drive, not only as a producer but as an engineer and musician, are illuminating and educational. Both sets present an insight into the birth and growth of Federal Records and the Jamaican recording industry and are essential to an understanding of the real roots of reggae music.1. Father, Son, Holy GhostGirls return with their long awaited second full-length. Both more spacious and tuneful than either their self-made debut or their lush EP, Father, Son, Holy Ghost is a gorgeous, ambitious rock album, enlivened by flashes of innocent pop and textured by its wealth of influences and willingness to face sadness.
Recorded in SF and LA with Doug Boehm and featuring a gospel choir on several tracks, the album draws from the rock songbook to tell its tales, it navigates from the Roy Orbison-esque heart-on-sleeve love songs the band is known for through to shoegaze, soul, metal, folk and gospel.
Father, Son, Holy Ghost is somehow both intimate and expansive. It captures the promise of early recordings and expands to cover new ground while still providing surprises at every turn. A triumphant accomplishment.1. Honey Bunny

''For all intents and purposes, this album is the black version of [The Beach Boys'] Smile-- at best, it will go down in the Smile/There's a Riot Goin' On/Miles Davis' On the Corner category.'' - Questlove
The prodigal son of the soul and funk canon, D'Angelo, is back! His ever-awaited third studio album, Black Messiah, is his first album since the critically acclaimed Voodoo, bringing to an end a 14-year hiatus. The album blends 70's jazz-funk and neo-soul.
Anyone who's been keeping up should be keen to the fact that the long-lusted over project was recorded in full analog, so the liner notes' PSA "For best results, listen at maximum volume" should be taken as a direct order for fervent D'lievers. And what better way to experience the gritty greatness of the release than a heavy-bodied vinyl pressing for the audio junkies?
The album features tracks co-penned by Kendra Foster (Parliament/Funkadelic) and Q-Tip (A Tribe Called Quest). It's also co-produced by Questlove (The Roots), bassist Pino Palladino (John Mayer Trio, The RH Factor), and drummer James Gadson (Bill Withers, Temptations, Beck, Jamie Lidell).

Hollow BonesHollow Bones, the most anticipated blues rock album of the year from Long Beach, California's Rival Sons will finally be upon us! Having supported some of the biggest and best names in rock history, including being hand-picked to support Black Sabbath on their final world tour, following sold out tour after sold out tour, and just recently being added to the main stages at Europe's premier festivals such as Download, Hellfest and Rock Am Ring, the Rival Sons hype train continues to gain momentum, and Hollow Bones will surely propel them to their rightful place at the pinnacle of today's rock scene!
Arguably the most soulful voice in rock music today, Jay Buchanan's vocal performance on the album is as fiery and passionate as ever. Infused perfectly with Scott Holiday's fuzzy guitars, a powerful bassline courtesy of Dave Beste, and held together by the precise drumming of Mike Miley, and the two-times Grammy award winning talent of producer Dave Cobb, the lead single, Hollow Bones, Pt. 1 and the electrifying anthem Pretty Face encapsulate the harmonious blend that we've all come to know and love, now further refined and perfected to create a unique, timeless sound that sets the band apart.
Of course, no Rival Sons album would be complete without a heartfelt tune or two, provided here by the raw, dark Fade Out, which showcases the band's immense songwriting capabilities with haunting melodies and a touch of wistful melancholy. The final track, All That I Want, is an incredibly tender, touching finale, with the guitars this time taking a backseat allowing Jay Buchanan to deliver a breathtaking performance that'll tug at your heartstrings in a way that only he can. The man himself offers his own views on their latest work:
Each record we've made has been part of a distillation toward revealing the band's essence. This record, finally is the release of the unapologetic, wild beast that has long lived within the ribs of Rival Sons howling to be freed.
In keeping with a theme the band have touched upon several times, the stunning album artwork comes courtesy of renowned Brooklyn-based artist Martin Wittfooth, who's exhibited extensively in galleries and museums throughout North America and Europe. This particular piece, entitled Rainsong, is an oil-based painting featured in his latest solo exhibition, Offering, which was displayed at the famous Jonathan LeVine Gallery, New York in late 2015.
Through his work, Martin Wittfooth has presented a dystopian world, devoid of human life and filled with strong symbolic implications that the root cause is our own disrespect for the natural world. In contrast to some of his earlier work, which have often featured creatures removed from their own natural environments and instead surrounded by trash and decay, Offering explores the ancient art of shamanism, demonstrating a more optimistic view that perhaps its current revitalisation can peel away the materialistic obsessions through which we are collectively destroying our planet. In Martin Wittfooth's own words, the reemergence of shamanism appears to be having a great impact on consciousness around the globe by severing individual attachments to the ego-driven, ideology-based monotheistic modality that has shaped so much of the human enterprise over the past millennia.1. LanternsEqual parts producer and composer, Son Lux (aka Ryan Lott) bridges an unusual
gap between old-world music theory and next-level experimentation. Meditative
but heaving with energy, "Lanterns" nds a peculiar congruency between
futuristic soul and ancient sentiment. Driving orchestral electronica (Lost It To
Trying, No Crimes) is placed alongside creepy minimalism (Pyre), often starkly
juxtaposing densely layered arrangements with Lott's fragile voice.
In recent past Son Lux has gained notoriety both for his s/s/s project (with
Sufjan Stevens and Serengeti), and from being named NPR's "Best New Artist of
the Year". His third full-length album, and his rst for Joyful Noise (Kishi Bashi,
Sebadoh, etc.), positions Son Lux at the helm of an impressive ensemble of
instrumentalists and singers, including Chris Thile (The Punch Brothers), Peter
Silberman (The Antlers), DM Stith, Lily & Madeleine, Darren King (Mutemath),
Ieva Berberian (Gem Club) and yMusic (Dirty Projectors, Bon Iver).1. Alternate World

War Of KingsTheir anticipated follow-up to 2012's 'Bag of Bones,' Europe will release 'War of Kings' via UDR Music. The effort marks the tenth studio album from the Swedish hard rock moguls, as well as the first to be released as part of their new record deal, and will feature eleven prominent new selections which feature such titles as "Children of the Mind" and "Days of Rock n Roll."
Lead vocalist Joey Tempest says that he and the members of Europe turned towards style of the artists that influenced their development on their upcoming offering. "'War of Kings' is the album we always wanted to make, ever since we were kids listening to bands like [Led] Zeppelin, [Deep] Purple and [Black] Sabbath. And after hearing Dave Cobb amazing production for Rival Sons we simply had to work with him. Our adventure is still ON!"
Tempest previously commented on the band's decision to appoint Dave Cobb as the producer of 'War of Kings,' explaining, "He is one of few producers out there who is saving rock 'n' roll. When we first heard 'Pressure And Time' by Rival Sons, we just went, 'Who the hell produced this stuff?' It's got tons of heart and soul, it's cocky, it's got that swagger, it's alive and real. That's the journey we're on with Europe, trying to dig deeper to find more soulful expressions and play straight from the core. So we're extremely excited to bring this guy into our team."
UDR president Ulrike Rudolph was similarly impressed with Europe's forthcoming venture. "We are always looking to expand the label's stable of bands with quality, not quantity, and Europe represent the finest in supremely written hard rock music," he said. "They are a group who refuse to rest on their past and continue to grow as artists and musicians, so we are absolutely delighted they have come to us."

New Magic (Blue Vinyl)Pressed On Blue Vinyl
Son Little, the singer and songwriter born Aaron Livingston, is the easygoing musical alchemist of our time. He is a conjurer, and much like those of his heroes Stevie Wonder and Jimi Hendrix, his songs are deconstructions of the diaspora of American R&B. Deftly he weaves different eras of the sound-blues, soul, gospel, rock and roll-through his own unique vision, never forced, always smooth, each note a tributary on the flowing river of rhythm and blues. And now, with his second full-length album, New Magic, he has delivered a profound statement, a cohesive creation that captures the diverse spirit of American music in a fresh and modern way.
The song that serves as the album's true centerpiece is Blue Magic, a Philly Soul inspired number deconstructed almost like a rap song or the best of production savants like J Dilla or Madlib, complete with chiming glockenspiel bells and old school female backing vocals. The song has the appeal of an instant classic. On the heels of his 2015 self-titled debut and the 5-song EP, Songs I Forgot, that came before it, Son Little found his reach steadily growing. His song Lay Down had been streamed over seven million times, he had toured the world with artists as diverse as Leon Bridges, Kelis, Mumford & Sons, Portual. The Man and Shakey Graves in addition to his own headlining runs, and also became a Grammy Award winning producer, earning a 2016 Best Roots Performance award for his work on Mavis Staples.1.
