Classic Cypress Hill Songs With Spanish Lyrics

Including Loco En El Coco (Insane In The Brain), Latino Lingo (Latin Lingo) & Ilusiones (Illusions)

Cypress Hill was the first Latino American hip hop recording group to have platinum and multi-platinum albums, selling over 18 million albums worldwide. They are considered to be among the main progenitors of West Coast rap and hip-hop in the early 90s, being critically acclaimed for their first four albums. The band has also been highly vocal of their advocacy of the medical and recreational use of cannabis in the United States.

Los Grandes Éxitos en Español is a greatest-hits album in Spanish by Cypress Hill. It was certified Platinum by the RIAA. With exception of the last track, which was previously unreleased, together with Latin Lingo, and Tres Equis which appeared on Cypress Hill, the album features old songs with new Spanish lyrics.

    Five Spanish Songs

Five Spanish Songs is an EP of songs written by Spanish musician Antonio Luque of the band Sr. Chinarro.

Produced by JC/DC and recorded at their studio in Vancouver earlier this summer, Five Spanish Songs features musical contributions from Nicolas Bragg, David Carswell, John Collins, Stephen Hamm, and Josh Wells.

    Dan Bejar writes:

It was 2013. The English language seemed spent, despicable, not easily singable. It felt over for English; good for business transactions, but that's about it. The only other language I know is Spanish, and the only Spanish songs I really know are those of Sr. Chinarro, led by Antonio Luque. I've been a decades-long fan of how he conducted his affairs, his strange words, his melodies that have always felt so natural (this is important), his bitter songs about painting the light. Something about them, I knew I could do it...

    South Of Nowhere

Spanish Gold, which features drummer Patrick Hallahan (My Morning Jacket), guitarist Adrian Quesada (formerly of Grupo Fantasma) and guitarist and lead vocalist Dante Schwebel (City and Colour, formerly of Hacienda), release their debut album South of Nowhere on BMG/Del Mar Records.

Produced by the trio along with Collin Dupuis (JEFF the Brotherhood, Bombino), South of Nowhere was recorded by Dupuis at Dan Auerbach's Easy Eye Studio in Nashville and at Lalaland in Louisville. Additional recording was done with Jim Eno (Spoon, Poliça) at Public Hi-Fi in Austin and Sam Patlove (The Octopus Project) at Big Orange in Austin.

Of making the new album, Schwebel comments, "We kept finding that we had a lot of the same reference points during the recording. It became evident that we were still children of the MTV era.

We grew up with MTV when it was still a music channel. The way that the programming crossed genres from R&B to hip hop, rock, soul and pop music is how we approach records. It's an album of all those styles. Like watching a random hour of MTV programming circa 1986-1996. It's a nod to Michael Jackson, Dr. Dre, Madonna, the Beastie Boys or Tom Petty, all with a Texas border town setting. It all adds up to a fun listen that you can keep on repeat."

With their third album, 1968's Waiting For The Sun, The Doors managed to take a mellower turn, delivering some fine melodic ballad rock songs like Hello, I Love You, Love Street and Wintertime Love while still retaining their former power with tracks like The Unknown Soldier, Spanish Caravan and the apocalyptic Five To One. A fascinating reissue that comfortably straddles the lines of jazz, folk, and world music, working up a storm by way of a jazz protest album that points toward the Spanish Civil War in particular and the Vietnam War in passing. Lee Hazlewoodism: Its Cause and Cure

The second of his MGM trilogy-1967's peculiarly named Lee Hazlewoodism: Its Cause And Cure-took on countrified French ye-ye ("The Girls In Paris"), a tale of a young bullfighter built on Spanish guitar and choral cowboys ("Jose"), a string-drenched song about the passing of time ("The Old Man And His Guitar"), and a western epic about a Native American tribe ("The Nights"). And that was just the first four tracks. Elsewhere, the honky tonk madness of "Suzi Jane Is Back In Town," the Byrds-like jangle of "In Our Time" and-in the bonus tracks-an instrumental named "Batman" confirm this to be one of Hazlewood's most far-ranging, far-out LPs ever!

Street Of The Love Of Days

Amor de Días (Spanish for love of days) is the supergroup formed by Alasdair MacLean of the Clientele and Lupe Núñez-Fernández of Pipas. Over the course of three years, they quietly put together their debut record during evenings and weekends as they called in local friends (Louis Philippe) and visiting musicians (Damon and Naomi, Gary Olson) for sessions, building up the songs multifaceted arrangements and vocal harmonies with harps, bouzoukis, strings, recorders, and brass over the core of dual Spanish guitars and the dream imagery of their bilingual lyrics.

The result is a focused, cohesive jewel of chamber pop that reflects a little of Gal Costa and Caetano Velosos elegant brand of bossa nova, a bit of Erik Saties haunting night music, and a large dose of spooky psychedelic folk. But the beautiful harmony that sings throughout the record makes it all their own.

At times spare and empty, at times rich with instrumental texture, and at times jazz-tinged and hypnotic, Street of the Love of Days rivals anything either Alasdair or Lupe has recorded before.

    Exodus: Gods and Kings

    Blue/White/Black Swirl Colored Vinyl

    Limited Edition, Numbered To 750

From acclaimed director Ridley Scott (Gladiator, Prometheus) comes the epic adventure Exodus: Gods and Kings, the story of one man's daring courage to take on the might of an empire. Using state of the art visual effects and 3D immersion, Scott brings new life to the story of the defiant leader Moses (Christian Bale) as he rises up against the Egyptian Pharaoh Ramses (Joel Edgerton), setting 400,000 slaves on a monumental journey of escape from Egypt and its terrifying cycle of deadly plagues.

The epic film was scored by Spanish composer Alberto Iglesias. He has written the music for several Spanish films, mostly from Pedro Almodóvar and Julio Medem. He has been nominated for an Academy Award for his work in the films The Constant Gardener (2005), The Kite Runner (2007) and again for Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy (2011). His other film credits include soundtracks for Steven Soderbergh's Che and Hossein Amini's The Two Faces of January (2014).

    Yuyay Jap'ina Tapes

In 1949, Luzmila Carpio was born in the rural town of Qala Qala, Bolivia. It was there
that her earliest musical experiences- and the genesis of her unique voice-shaped her
decades-long career writing and performing Quechua music. In Bolivia, though more
than 36 indigenous languages are spoken by nearly 40 percent of the population, the
only officially recognized language of state was Spanish until September of 2000. Thus,
for much of the 20th century, Quechua populations were concentrated in rural areas,
often ignored by those in urban centers of political power.

The social, political and economic stigma that came with identifying as Quechua was
keenly felt throughout Luzmila's formative years, though the tide began to shift in the late
1960s. At age 15, Luzmila joined the group Los Provincianos and has continued to make
music ever since. Her distinctive musical style comes from her impossibly high upper register
that oftentimes mingles so closely with the timbre of a quena flute:

"In my community, among us, we sing like that-very high. It's the tradition in our
area that I further developed while trying other styles or ranges as my voice
allowed. My mother would say that by singing that way we would safeguard
the voice of the little girl, and that the world would welcome us. It's attributed
to Pacha Mama, Mother Earth "

In October of 1992, Luzmila began working with UNICEF on the Yuyay Jap'ina campaign
for adult literacy. The goal of the project was to increase Quechua and Spanish
language literacy amongst Quechua-speaking populations. The designers of the Yuyay
Jap'ina project commissioned recordings by Luzmila. that featured local musicians performing
both traditional Quechua songs and those specially composed by Luzmila. Cassettes
were then played in libraries and learning centers and distributed for free in participant
villages. In keeping with the core mission of the literacy campaign, written song lyrics accompanied
the tapes in both Quechua and Spanish.

Many of the songs take a pedagogical approach; they testify to the importance of clean
drinking water (Ch'uwa yaku kawsaypuni, "Crystal Clear Water Is Life"), the self-actualizing
power of literacy (Riqsisqa kasunchik, "We Will Be Recognized"), and the selfassertion
of women (Warmikuna yupay-chasqapuni kasunchik, "Women, We Have To Be
Respected"). But looking at the Yuyay Jap'ina tapes as a set of instructional songs would
be only the narrowest interpretation. Taken in context, the songs are a bold celebration
    of language and culture.

Luzmila Carpio currently lives in Paris and continues to write and perform her songs
    around the world.

    Long Lost Tapes 1970

While remaining largely unknown to the general public, Peter Walker was something of a legend along the Boston-New York folk axis of the 1960s, releasing a few celebrated albums for Vanguard during this period. Playing with various folk luminaries like Fred Neil, Joan Baez, Tim Hardin and Karen Dalton, and studying Spanish flamenco and Indian classical guitar with none other than Ravi Shankar, Walker was both a true student of his instrument and a pioneer, using not only acoustic guitar, but, as can be heard on this album, also electric. Recorded in 1970 at Levon Helm's (The Band) house in Woodstock, with the likes of legendary Detroit drummer Maruga Booker and tabla god Badal Roy, this is an essential release for fans.

    Love And Circumstance

2010's Love And Circumstance is the fourth solo full-length from singer/songwriter/musician Carrie Rodriguez. The 12-song collection was produced by Lee Townsend (Bill Frisell) and recorded with Hans Holzen (guitar), Kyle Kegerreis (bass) and Eric Platz (drums). Other artists appearing here also include none other than Bill Frisell (guitar), Greg Leisz (pedal steel/slide guitars), Aoife ODonovan (background vocals) and Buddy Miller (background vocals).

Carrie wraps herself around songs from influences and peers such as John Hiatt/Nick Lowe/Ry Cooder/Jim Keltner (aka Little Village), Buddy Miller & Julie Miller, David Rodriguez, Gillian Welch & David Rawlings, Richard Thompson, Townes Van Zandt, M. Ward, Merle Haggard & Bonnie Owens, Hank Williams, Lucinda Williams, and more. She even pays homage to her family heritage with the soulful Spanish ballad La Puñalada Trapera, popularized in the 1950s by her great-aunt, famed Mexican bolero balladeer Eva Garza.

The conception of ''Sketches of Spain'' in 1960, can be placed in the ''most melodic era'' of Miles Davis. It is one of his most accessible and less improvisational albums, some even outclassed it from the reigns of Jazz.

This is one of the four albums where Miles and Gil Evans (arranger & conductor) were together with a small orchestra of horns and percussion, and it was fueled by Spanish melodies that fascinated Davis to the point he needed to get into them and go beyond: El Concierto de Arajuez by Joaquín Rodrigo and El Amor Brujo by Manuel de Falla.

Axis: Bold As Love (Music On Vinyl) (Mono)

Ranked 82/500 on Rolling Stone Magazine's 500 Greatest Albums of All Time.

Axis: Bold as Love, the second Experience album, was released merely six months after their debut LP Are You Experienced, at the end of 1967. Many of the album's songs were composed with complex studio recording techniques in mind and as a result were rarely performed live. Only Spanish Castle Magic and every-guitar-player's-ultimate-study-material Little Wing became staples during concerts.

The album shows an incredible growth in Hendrix' songwriting and sonical versatility. Radio friendly rockers like Wait Until Tomorrow and You Got Me Floatin' are mixed with ballads such as Castles Made Of Sand - the album's variety makes it a delightful listen.

The original mono pressing was intended to cater to those listeners with outdated hifi equipment, and therefore this is a rare piece of Hendrix' legacy. The Music On Vinyl reissue of the mono mix makes this evergreen available for contemporary ears again.
